At any stage in your career you may be asked to give an interview presentation. This interview will likely test you on one or more of the skills that are most important to the role.

The interview presentation you are asked to give can vary largely, depending on the role you are applying for and the industry you work in.

For example, a Solutions Architect may have to give an interview presentation that shows their technical ability, but also highlighting communication and presentation skills. 

Meanwhile someone earlier in their career at a Network Engineer level, will likely have to give a presentation that focuses purely on their technical ability: Because that is what is most important to the employer when hiring at this level.

Why Are You Being Asked to Give an Interview Presentation?

When an employer asks you to give a presentation in your interview, it is typically to gain a greater understanding of your skills or experience. These will be the skills or experience that are most important to the role, and can offer you insight into what will be expected of you in the role.

The questions you are asked in an interview are obviously important, and it’s always a good idea to research the typical interview questions that you are likely to face . 

But the interview presentation can be just as, and is likely more important than, the questions you answer: And is typically where many potential candidates are rejected from the interview process.

The interview presentation will also help you to understand whether the job is one that would be right for you. The presentation task will likely be something you will be doing in the role everyday, or something that is of crucial importance. So the interview presentation task can give you more insight into the role than you can get from asking questions in the interview.

The 5 Things Your Job Interview Presentation Needs to Show

Before we get into the practical tips for your interview presentation, there are a few essential things that your presentation must show:

1. That you understood the task and the job you’ll be doing.

All too often we see candidates who have rushed into an interview task, without really taking the time to understand the task or understand what the employer was really looking to see. 

Because it’s feedback we hear from the employers we work with all the time. It’s crucial to make sure you understand what the employer wants to see from your task.

2. Your technical experience and expertise.

Pretty obvious, but pretty important. If you’re given a technical task, you need to show that you’re an expert at what you’ve been asked. This can mean going back and doing some revision around this area, to refresh your memory and prepare yourself for any questions you might face.

3. That you can handle yourself in a high-pressure situation.

Being cool under pressure is an essential skill and is an attractive quality in almost every job. Conversely, while someone may be great on paper, if they can’t articulate themselves or crumble under pressure, that can be a huge red flag to employers.

4. You can communicate well with clients and colleagues.

Communication is key, especially in a position where you’ll be working closely with clients or colleagues. And if you can’t articulate yourself effectively in a presentation setting, employers will be hesitant to put you in a role where you will be presenting to clients.

5. That you really want the job.

If you’re in the interview, then it’s fairly obvious that you want the job you’re interviewing for. But one of the things that employers will look for is who really wants the job.

Putting in the effort, preparing for any questions they may have and rehearsing your presentation, will show the interviewer that you’re serious about the opportunity.

13 Interview Presentation Tips and Steps to Success

These 13 tips will outline the steps you need to take when creating, presenting and what you need to do after your interview presentation.

1. Understand your audience and what they are looking for

The most important tip we can give is to understand what your audience, the interviewer, is looking for from your presentation. 

If you’re interviewing for an IT Account Manager position and asked to give a mock pitch to clients, is it the contents of your presentation that really matters? Probably not. 

Instead, the interviewers are looking to see that you present yourself well, can communicate effectively, and have a technical understanding of what you’re selling.

2. Keep it nice and short

Nobody wants to sit through a seemingly endless presentation. So try to keep the presentation you give nice and short: As concise as it needs to be.

If you’re really not sure about the length of the presentation, you can always ask the interviewer about how long they would like the interview presentation to be.

If you haven’t been given an outline for how long your presentation should take, you might be tempted to put in as much useful information as you can, to show off your knowledge and skills. But we advise having only the necessary information you need to complete the task at hand or answer the questions that you need to.

3. Have a structure for your presentation

Imperative to having a streamlined and professional interview presentation, is having a solid structure. Whatever the subject of your presentation, you should have an introduction, the main points you want to address, and a conclusion.

4. Use images and graphs, not just text

Make your presentation more engaging by including images, graphs, diagrams and maybe even a video if you’re feeling a bit creative. 

This prevents your presentation from becoming monotonous, and can help to break up slides of text after text or large sets of data.

5. Don’t try to fit too much information on each slide

It can be tempting to try and use up all the real estate on your presentation slides, cramming them with information.

But we advise having slides with just the key points that you want to explore, or a graph that will support what you say.

Keeping the majority of the information off the slides gives you more to talk about, stops everyone from sitting and reading the slides in silence, and will keep the interviewers attention on you. 

6. Try to match the branding of the business

Something we advise that doesn’t take too much effort, is mirroring the branding of the business you’re applying for a role at. 

What we mean by this, is to say you’re applying for a job at BT. Going on the BT website and downloading some pamphlet or e-book from their website and matching the logos and overall colour scheme that they use.

It’s not the most important thing in the world, as it won’t save your interview presentation if everything else goes wrong. But it does show you’re putting in the extra effort to impress the interviewer.

7. Double check for any mistakes

And in opposition to this, is making sure that there are no mistakes in your presentation. Because having simple errors or spelling mistakes in your presentation isn’t a great look, and the interviewer will be sure to notice. 

So make sure to proofread your presentation. And even better, have someone else double check it for you.

8. Practise presenting to yourself, or to friends/ family

The difference between someone presenting for the first time and someone who has rehearsed is absolutely noticeable to a hiring manager. So we strongly advise taking the time to practise your interview presentation beforehand. 

Not only will this help you appear more natural when you present, it will also help you to know if your presentation is too long and needs to be cut down.

9. Be confident when presenting

Not everyone is a natural born public speaker. But exuding confidence in your presentation is essential. Which means:

  • Taking your time and not rushing through your presentation. 
  • Speaking confidently and clearly.
  • Asking whether you’ve been clear with what you’ve said so far.
  • Even your body language.

Because if you struggle to present confidently and can’t articulate yourself properly, then the employer won’t be confident that you will be confident in front of customers or clients.

10. Be confident with your body language

When you present, the interviewer will be aware of your body language and what it says about you: So it’s important that you are aware of it too, and you’re in control of it. This can involve making eye contact, using appropriate and positive hand gestures, having a good posture, and smiling.

11. Don’t go overboard on time, and leave time for questions

We’ve mentioned the length of your presentation earlier, but it’s important that you don’t go over the assigned time limit. 

It shows poor time management, poor communication skills (if you take too long to get to the point), and an employer would likely be more hesitant to put you in front of customers or clients.

You should also aim to leave about 5 minutes of time at the end of your presentation to give the interviewers the opportunity to ask any questions, without going overboard on time.

12. Think what questions you need to expect

Predicting the questions you’re going to face seems like an impossible task. After all, you could be asked about pretty much anything. But in reality, understanding the task and what the interviewer is looking for will help you to have an idea of the kinds of questions you’ll be asked.

For example, if you’re giving an interview presentation that is a mock pitch to clients, then you can attempt to think of some objections that a client would raise about your pitch. Or if you were listening to your presentation, what are the questions you would ask?

13. Thank them for their time, and reiterate your interest in the position

When you’ve finished your presentation and interview, remember to thank the interviewer for their time and say again how interested you are in the position and in joining the company.

When an interviewer is trying to make a decision between a few competitive candidates, being the one who is eager and actively wants the job can be a deciding factor.

What to Do If Your Interview Presentation Doesn’t Go to Plan?

Hopefully your interview presentation goes perfectly and you can skip this section completely. But just in case it doesn’t, here are a few things that could go wrong in your presentation and how to avoid them.

Technical difficulties

Technical difficulties can be frustrating at the best of times but especially in a high-pressure situation like an interview. And even worse, they can be completely out of your control.

The best thing you can do is to prepare for any eventuality.

Email a copy of your presentation to yourself. Have another copy on a USB memory stick that you bring with you. Print out a few copies to hand out as a backup. Try to cover all bases where possible.

You are asked a question you don’t know the answer to

While you can try to predict the questions you’ll be asked, it’s unlikely you’ll get them all. And you may even be asked a question to which you simply don’t have the answer. 

So instead of trying to come up with an answer on the spot, it’s best to pause and ask for a minute to consider. Or if you’re truly stumped, be upfront and say you don’t have an answer at that time but will revisit at the end of the interview, or at a later date.

While it would be an ideal situation to have an answer to every question, asking for time to revisit shows confidence and self-awareness.

Your audience seem disinterested or not engaged

Interview presentations are necessarily the most exciting things in the world. Especially if an interviewer has conducted multiple of the same interview. 

So don’t be disheartened if the interviewers don’t seem the most engaged. And if they do, you can always ask the interviewers if everything you have said makes sense so far or if they have any questions about anything you’ve discussed up to that point.

This also helps to stop your interview presentation turning into a lecture and gives yourself a pause to collect your thoughts and take a break.

You’re going overboard on time

Before you go in, you should have a good idea of how long your presentation will last. Even so, you can find yourself going overboard on time when in the interview.

It’s important to be aware of how much time you have left and if you’re going to go overboard on time.

But you can prepare for this beforehand. Before you go into the interview, try to think of areas that you can trim or cut from your presentation just in case. That you would like to include if you have the time, but aren’t 100% necessary to keep in, or that you can summarise quickly if you need to.

A key part of interviews nowadays is to ask prospective applicants to carry out a 10-minute presentation. In this question and answer article, we asked our readers to see if they had any advice for these kinds of presentations.

I’ve just been told that I have a job interview next Wednesday. I need to do a 10 minute presentation in front of the other candidates followed by a formal interview. The topic of the presentation is “What I can bring to this position” and “How will I adapt to make my job successful”. I’ve never had to do anything like this before and I just don’t know where to start!

I am also  preparing for an interview myself. I have to present myself and let them know what will I bring to the team. I have started my report by saying who am I, my academic background and now I am thinking of talking about my business qualifications and how my present job experience helped me be more responsible, organized, problem solver ext. I will present some cases where I was very much involved and that will show my professional attitude and mentality.

I have been offered the following advice for my ten minute presentation for an interview this coming Tuesday, so I’m sharing it with you. I will be given the topic and given an hour to prepare it.

The structure: 

Tell them what you are going to tell them.

Tell them what you told them.

You should use minimal flip charts or slides, no more than 4 I would aim at 3 if possible.

  • Start with an introduction “I am”, “I will be talking about … and I will allow time for questions (at end).”
  • Depending upon what subject you get you may wish to consider using the SWOT analysis method of delivery which should contain about 3 or 4 Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats. I often find subjects or the questions asked don’t fit easily into SWOT and should that be the case it is perhaps best to use the rule of 3.
  • Pick what your Focal point will be i.e Our Company should wear green ties not red ties.
  • Presuming that you will be given a flipchart at least, I would divide the body of the presentation into three points, and use a separate flip chart for each point. For example, discussing the cost, availability and quality.
  • Conclude with a summary backing up your point and maybe even a catch phrase or saying.

Other notes of advice:

Adhere strictly to time, try not to over complicate it, don’t talk to the flip chart, and practice if you have time. In terms of preparation before the day, rack your brains for questions and practice it at home. This will mean that your introduction will essentially be the same and a little bit like a ‘fill in the blanks’.

10 minutes on why I applied and why I am an ideal candidate. 

In a couple of weeks, I will have to give a 10 minute presentation for a prospective job opportunity. I have to answer two questions in this presentation, why I choose to apply for the job and why I am an ideal candidate. I have done some research on the company and have a decent response for the presentation but I have recently found out there are a lot of other candidates and feel I need a hook or theme that the panel will remember and identify with. Do you have any ideas on how I can come up with a suitable ‘hook’ for the presentation.

It is good to see you have done some research on the company, as my best advice for you is to read the job application form and the company’s web site, see what kind of qualities they are looking for. Usually in their company description or job description they will have words like dynamic, honesty, integrity, and innovation in it.Try to use these and others adjectives you think are applicable in your presentation.

As much as possible use real live examples of why you are ideal, i.e. the challenges which you faced at your last company, some of which may face your prospective employers. Talk a little about the ways you have handled yourself and dealt with problems i.e., I handled this problem by using X, which resulted in Y. By doing this you are quoting experience, showing you understand their business, and sharing your knowledge… all good things to show in an interview.

Three successes and one failure presentation

I have to give a 10 minutes presentation tomorrow for a job interview. It has to be based on 3 successes and one failure. I’m going to concentrate on job related issues. Does anyone have any tips on how to pitch this?I have been advised to follow the Situation, Task, Action and Result framework for each item to ensure that I demonstrate the competencies required by the interviewers, but I’m worried that the presentation will end up being too detailed.Also, any views on how I should order each item? ie shall I cover the failure item last or is that too negative?

The best way to present a failure is to fail because of one of your strengths (e.g. I was so determined to get the job done on time, that we went slightly over budget) Effectively talk about the failure more as a trade-off, rather than as a failure. You don’t have to talk about your worst failure.Another one would be I lost the deal, but I was able to take the earnings and win the next one. Also don’t use the failure as the last item. It should go in the middle. People will remember the first and the last items, but not the ones in the middle. Ensure that you say what you learnt from that failure, and how to do it better next time.

It depends on how many questions you have to answer, because 10 minutes isn’t very long to answer lots of questions. If you have been given 4 questions to answer, spend about a minute introducing yourself and then 2 mins per question, and a quick summary of a minute. These timings become smaller with more questions, or longer with fewer questions

WASHINGTON — First brother James Biden made a “flawless” pitch for Qatar to invest $30 million in a troubled rural hospital provider, a colleague gushed, after he drafted a presentation that included “Brother” of now-President Biden among his credentials, emails show.

James Biden, 75, pumped Americore Health for $600,000 in what the firm said was loans in 2018 — and wrote a check for $200,000 of that amount to Joe Biden at the same time James was seeking out foreign investors.

The fresh evidence of influence-peddling was first reported Sunday by Politico .

A colleague of President Biden's brother James claimed that he made a "flawless" pitch for Qatar to invest $30 million in a rural hospital provider, emails show.

On March 10, 2018, James Biden’s wife, Sara, emailed a draft investor presentation to the Platinum Group, led by businessman Amer Rustom, with what she called “a few minor revisions by Jim.”

The presentation said Americore was seeking $30 million and described Jim Biden as the “Brother and Campaign Finance Chair of former Vice President Joe Biden.”

Exactly one month later, Platinum Group executive Julie Lander wrote to the future first brother and referred to a meeting with a senior Qatari official.

“I am following up from the meeting we had with the Minister,” Lander wrote, according to Politico.

“Your approach with him was flawless. He requested more information on Americore.”

Lander suggested that the investors seek $200 million from Qatar’s Investment Authority, the Gulf state’s sovereign wealth fund.

Platinum Group executive Julie Lander wrote to James Biden a month after the pitch to inform him that the Qatari official requested more information on Americore.

Around that time, the QIA was under scrutiny after Brookfield Corporation, in which the Qataris are major investors, bought a partnership in a troubled Manhattan building that threatened to financially ruin the family of then-President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner.

On May 17, 2018, James Biden wrote to Americore CEO Grant White that he was still working to raise money for the company.

“I agreed to go to Qatar, Saudi Arabia and China (at my own expense),” James allegedly wrote.

The new information emerged in a period of relative quiet from the House Republican impeachment inquiry into alleged Biden family corruption.

The GOP probe has focused on evidence that Joe Biden met with foreign partners of Hunter and James Biden from  two Chinese government-backed ventures  and their associates from Kazakhstan , Mexico , Russia and  Ukraine .

Most of those meetings occurred while Joe Biden was the sitting vice president and leading US foreign policy toward the countries involved.

IRON MOUNTAIN — The April luncheon meeting of the Iron Mountain-Kingsford General Federation of Women’s Clubs had a very entertaining program. President Gail Galotta wrote “We Are the Iron Mountain/Kingsford Women’s Club,” which is a skit highlighting social and historical events in the Iron Mountain/Kingsford Women’s Club from 1915 to 1987.

Seven woman portrayed fictional club members from various decades that cover two World Wars, the Great Depression and the changing role of women.

The experiences range from bathing poor children at the Chapin Dry in 1915 to receiving Anne Landers as a guest in 1962. But the underlying theme they share are the contributions that the club made to benefit the community.

At the conclusion, each woman states what the club meant to her and together they proudly proclaimed, “We are the members of the Iron Mountain-Kingsford Women’s Club.”

From Concept to Career: Exploring the Intersection of Theory, Practice and Purpose in Graphic Design Seniors

Graphic Design seniors shine in exhibition as they prepare for their upcoming portfolio presentations and life after college

The UNC Arts Graphic Design Senior Show runs through May 2 at the Campus Commons Gallery.

While many seniors at the University of Northern Colorado (UNC) hustle to finish final papers, study for exams and gear up for graduation, Graphic Design students enrolled in the Senior Exhibition Project course are diligently preparing to exhibit their best work for public viewing at the Campus Commons Gallery. Their pieces, as well as their portfolios, will be critiqued by a panel of industry professionals, all before the pressure of finals week.  

UNC’s College of Performing and Visual Arts Graphic Design program is quietly revolutionizing the way future designers prepare for their careers. Students are not just assembling a collection of works but are also laying the foundation for their future career success. Kalyana Gallagher is one such student who is not only utilizing this course to advance her knowledge of the graphic design field but also to launch her magazine project, PURlll. Magazine . This magazine combines design, storytelling and collaboration with a few other students.

It’s important to students like Gallagher that their art is not only for consumption, but also has a meaningful influence. PURlll.’s official launch will include a website and the first two issues of the magazine. They’ve pledged to donate 20% of all profits from PURlll. Magazine to True Colors United — a nonprofit organization focused on innovative solutions for homelessness in LGBTQ+ and BIPOC youth across the country.  “I want to impact others with my work and use my platform and my voice as an artist to reach others and amplify other people's stories,” Gallagher said.   

“So, especially with PURlll. , a big part of that is telling other people's stories and giving them an opportunity to connect and collaborate with me in a way I wouldn't normally be able to.”   

One of Gallagher’s collaborators is fellow classmate Trevor Erpelding, who is assisting with rendering the PURlll. logo, creating all 3D components and developing product mockups. Simultaneously, Erpelding manages his own virtual reality exhibition, showcasing his multidisciplinary talents. Notably, Erpelding is proficient in Blender, a versatile and powerful open-source program for creating 3D digital assets and virtual environments. Through self-directed learning, Erpelding has combined Blender's capabilities with his artistic knowledge to seamlessly integrate his 3D modeling skills into his virtual reality exhibition titled , “DIMENSIONAL REVERIE.” He aims to craft an immersive experience that captivates audiences and enhances the overall impact of the exhibition.  

Designing a Course   

From the conception of this course to the eventual exhibition of student work, the Graphic Design instructors are fervently dedicated to crafting an educational experience that prepares their students for career success whatever that looks like for them — from agency work, freelancing, web and interactive media, merchandising, packaging and everything in between. Samuel Dong-Saul, MFA , one of the instructors of the Senior Project course, believes in instilling in students the importance of showcasing their work with integrity.    

"The portfolio is your resume," Dong-Saul said, stressing the importance of teaching practical skills in addition to the theoretical.  

“The objective for this class is to help them prepare for the career environment and help them build targeted portfolios where students curate their design and artistic work to their field of choice [while] learning what it takes to do a formal, artistic exhibition by making a proposal, making sure that everything is explained conceptually, translates physically.”   

External critiques offer students real-world, industry perspectives, giving them invaluable insights beyond the classroom. For Dong-Saul and his co-instructor who teaches part of this course, Director of Galleries at UNC, Belle-Pilar Fleming , the focus remains on exposing students to numerous opportunities for tangible projects and exhibitions during their time in the classroom. Fleming sees these experiences as a reflection of students' growth and expertise. With each project and exhibition, students not only showcase their abilities but also gain a deeper understanding of their artistic journey.   

“For the exhibition portion of the course, having those fully realized projects builds a lot of confidence [in students], and sometimes these big culminating events can allow students time to reflect and think about how much they’ve learned and the skills they’ve acquired.”   

From the quality of their work to their industry acumen, every aspect of their portfolio presentations will be carefully examined. As students brace themselves for critique and evaluation from professionals in the graphic design world, they know they'll be judged not just on their technical prowess but also on their ability to respond to feedback, an important life skill. It's a testament to the class's commitment to bridging the gap between academic learning and practical application.   

Refining Their Artistic Voice   

The course structure is holistically designed to equip students with the skills to navigate the challenges of the design world and to refine their artistic voice. This is the first year that the director of galleries is also serving as an instructor of this course which has spurred a collaboration between the Graphic Design program and UNC Galleries. This has resulted in a unique way for students to experience the nuanced and varied world of art and design. From visiting artist exhibitions to professional preparation courses, every component is geared toward equipping students with the tools they need to thrive.   

Through constructive criticism and guided portfolio building, they find themselves well-prepared for the professional world and hopeful about their freelance design aspirations. Networking and proactive engagement have been not just buzzwords, but essential components of their educational journey. 

For students like Sasha Krause, a Graphic Design major who is also earning a certificate in Arts Entrepreneurship, the class is a chance to put their passion projects within a more professional setting. Each student in the Graphic Design program is required to complete an internship before graduation, which is not merely a box to check, but a way for students to bridge the gap between theory and practice. Krause’s internship with BandWagon Magazine , a prominent publication that reports on live music, arts, entertainment, nightlife and community in northern Colorado, sparked their interest in merchandise design.

As Krause navigates the transition from academia to the professional arena, they emphasize the significance of proactive engagement and stepping out of one's comfort zone. Networking isn't confined to formal events or job fairs. It's about embracing every opportunity to connect with peers, mentors and industry professionals. Krause’s vision of building a freelance career and a small business underscores the importance of nurturing industry connections. They are growing a graphic design and illustration business called Rayne's Things (inquiries can be sent to [email protected] or @raynesthings on Instagram ), which means stepping out of their comfort zone, taking risks and being unafraid to make connections.  

“I would like to continue working freelance and building a small business,” said Krause. “With any degree or program, as you do in life, it’s what you put into it. It’s really important to push yourself into feeling uncomfortable, not too uncomfortable, obviously take care of yourself, but it's so important to push yourself to talk to that person in your class, talk to your professor, make connections.”   

Their senior project focuses on building apparel and other promotional materials for MUNA, a pop band that focuses on queer liberation, for the exhibition. Through constructive criticism and guided portfolio building, they find themselves well-prepared for the professional world and hopeful about their freelance design aspirations. Networking and proactive engagement have been not just buzzwords, but essential components of their educational journey.  

Developing a Thick Skin   

From virtual reality to packaging designs to interactive websites, each showcase will underscore students' individual strengths and career objectives. Alongside the presentations, the seniors craft exhibition proposals, delving into in-depth explorations of design concepts or enhancing existing projects. This exhibition serves as a testament to the students' readiness to enter the graphic design field with creativity, professionalism and innovation.   

Throughout the semester, students practice both receiving and giving feedback, preparing them for the panel of judges who will critique their upcoming portfolio presentations and provide feedback based on the areas of professional practice they are pursuing. This professionalism exercise enables students to demonstrate their command of design principles and their ability to adapt to feedback, something their career path demands. As Krause puts it, the program has prepared them for this moment.   

“Once you get to senior year, it's like, ‘all right, we hope that your skin is thick and you're ready for this’ because it's a lot of reviewing projects and tweaking things where they need to be tweaked, so you just have to be open-minded. In this course specifically, there's a lot of creative freedom and there are higher stakes because it is going to be in a gallery and on display,” said Krause.

As the semester progresses and students inch closer to the exhibition, their work will no longer be confined to the classroom, but it will be on display, offering the public a glimpse into the talent and dedication cultivated throughout their academic journey. It's not just about grades or credits, it's about nurturing the next generation of designers. With each project, exhibition and feedback session, students emerge not only as graduates but as confident, skilled professionals and artists ready to leave their mark on the world of design.

Our father among the saints Job ( + 1607) was the first Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia. He is commemorated by the Church on June 19 and April 5 .

St Job was born into the family of pious tradesmen in Staritsa near Tver in the 1530s. His baptismal name was John. As a teenager, John knew most of the biblical texts by heart and strove to become a monk . His father, however, insisted on his marriage . Once, John asked his father's permission to see his confessor in the Uspensky Monastery in their native town of Staritsa (Tver Oblast). Upon his arrival, John immediately took monastic vows and assumed the name of Job. He spent fifteen years in the cloister and finally became its abbot in 1566 with the help of Ivan the Terrible , who had made Staritsa his residence in times of the Oprichnina (secret police).

In 1571, Job was transferred to Moscow and appointed abbot of the Simonov Monastery . In 1575, he became the abbot of the Novospassky Monastery. In 1581, Job was appointed bishop of Kolomna.

Known as a person of mediocre mental abilities, he, nevertheless, managed to draw attention of Boris Godunov by his talent for reading the longest of prayers by heart in a very expressive manner. During the reign of Feodor I (whose government was controlled by Boris Godunov), Job was appointed archbishop of Rostov and Metropolitan of Moscow and All Russia in 1587.

Realizing the necessity of strengthening the ecclesiastic authority in Russia , Godunov managed to persuade the Patriarch of Constantinople Jeremias II to establish a patriarchate in Russia. On January 26 , 1589, Job was elected the first Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia. He exercised all his influence and played a major part in Boris Godunov's ascending to the Russian throne.

Job did not approve, however, Godunov's proposal to open a university in Moscow with foreign professors because he believed their influence and non- Orthodox faith would cause "heterodoxy" and endanger the authority of the Russian Church. Under Job's supervision, the Russians corrected books for divine service and prepared them for publishing.

He assisted in glorification of some of the Russian saints , ordering the celebration of the memory of Basil Fool for Christ in 1588, as well as that of Joseph Volotsky and others. Job also favored the construction of new cathedrals and monasteries and Christian missionary activities in the recently conquered Astrakhan Khanate and Siberia. After the mysterious death of tsarevich Dmitry Ivanovich in 1591, Jove accepted the noncriminal version of his demise, supporting Boris Godunov every step of the way.

After the invasion of False Dmitriy I and sudden death of Boris Godunov on June 1 , 1605, there was an uprising in Moscow.

Job was known as a harsh critic of False Dmitriy I, and he tried to persuade the people of Moscow to remain loyal to the deceased tsar. The armed supporters of the impostor burst into the Cathedral of the Dormition, and a boyar named P.F. Basmanov declared Job a traitor. Job was sent into exile to his monastery in Staritsa, where he went completely blind and finally died a very sick man in 1607.

In 1652, Job's relics were transferred to the Cathedral of the Dormition of the Moscow Kremlin, where they remain to this day. Patriarch Job was glorified as a saint by the Russian Orthodox Church in 1989.

The procedure for receiving the work visa for foreign citizens

Obtaining a work visa for the foreign citizen is a multistage and long process. For example, it will take on the average 100 days and 15900 ₽ (only to pay the state fee) for the Company-employer registered in Moscow to hire a foreign worker. Since a work permit is valid maximum for 1 year, it is necessary to start processing a new work visa 6 months after receiving the current work visa.

Citizens of the CIS do not need a visa to enter Russia, and Work permit is issued for them in the simplified order for 10 working days and 4000 ₽ approximately.

Steps of the work visa getting procedure:

  • Annual electronic application for foreign manpower need submitted to the Migration quotas automated information system.

  • Permission to involve the foreign labor force in the Migration police.
  • Work permit for foreigner (Plastic Card) in the Migration police.
  • Accreditation at the local department of the Migration police.
  • Work visa Invitation for foreigner.
  • Receiving a single-entry work visa for 90 days at the Russian Consulate.
  • Visa registration with the local department of the Migration police.
  • Notification of the beginning of work of a foreigner submitted to the Migration Police.
  • Re-issue of a single-entry work visa into a multiple-entry visa with the extension of its validity period.

  • Every year a Company is obliged to submit the application for foreign manpower need for the next year, so that the needs of the concrete company would be taken into account while the formation of quotas for the Russian Federation subjects and of all-Russian quota. Application includes a compulsory registration with the quick information center “Migration quota” at www.migrakvota.gov.ru . This rule does not apply to non-quota positions which list is renewed every year.

  • Project of a labour contract or other documents confirming the preliminary agreement with foreign citizens or foreign partners about intention and conditions of employment of foreign workers (1 copy, signed and stamped by the employer);
  • Certificate from the Russian Federal Tax Service of “The introduction of a record into the United state list of legal entities on the state registration of changes into the constitutive documents of a legal entity” (if changes were occurred) (2 notarized copies);
  • Certificate from the Russian Federal Tax Service of “The introduction of a record into the United state list of legal entities on the state registration of changes which are not connected with constitutive documents of legal entity” (if changes were occurred) (2 notarized copies);
  • Original of a billing document (stamped by bank) proving the payment of the state fee of 10000 ₽ for giving the company a “Permit to involve foreign labour force” for each foreign worker (properties).
  • Copy of a “Permit to involve foreign labour force” (with the presentation of the original);
  • Application (file PDF, 42 KB) to the Russian Migration police of Moscow (2 copies);
  • Warrant to the authorized representative (file PDF, 52 KB) for the right to supply and obtain a work permit (plastic card) (2 copies);
  • Application (file PDF, 102 KB) about issuing to foreign citizen or person without citizenship of work permit (1 copy);
  • Letter of guarantee (file PDF, 55 KB) for the return of foreign worker (1 copy);
  • Examination certificate for knowledge of Russian language;
  • Form A30 – about absence of disease of Hansen (leprosy);
  • Form A15-A19 – about absence of tuberculosis;
  • Form A50-A53.9, A55, A57 – about absence of sexually transmitted infections (syphilis, lymphogranuloma (venereal), chancre);
  • Form 086 – for the workers connected with physical labor;
  • about absence of addiction;
  • Notarized translation of passport of foreign citizen (1 copy);
  • Colored photo of foreign citizen on the mat paper – 2 pieces;
  • Copy of document with apostille about the vocational education with the translation into Russian (1 notarized copy); or a certificate of equivalency of such document to the Russian school certificate or diploma of professional education;
  • Original of billing document (stamped by bank) about the payment of the state duty of 3500 ₽ for obtaining a “work permit for a foreign citizen or a person without citizenship” (properties).

  • Letter of guarantee (file PDF, 41 КB).
  • Organization Registration card in the Russian Migration police of Moscow;
  • Application letter for invitation (file PDF, 116 KB) for Russian visa (1 copy);
  • Letter of guarantee (file PDF, 45 KB) from organization (1 copy);
  • Copy of “permit to employ foreign workers” (Permission) (1 copy);
  • Copy of both sides of “Work permit of foreign citizen” (Plastic card) with the presentation of original;
  • Copy of the page of passport of foreign citizen, which contains photo and specifications (1 copy);

  • Application of foreign citizen to the Russian consulate with purpose of obtaining single work visa for 90 days.
  • Notification of the beginning of work of the foreign national in the organization. After obtaining a work permit and a work visa, signing a labor contract with a foreign worker (or extending the existing labor contract for the new period), the Company- employer is obligated to send the notification of conclusion of the employment agreement with a foreign worker to the Migration police of Moscow in 3 days. Similar notification should be sent in case of cancellation of an employment agreement with a foreign worker.
  • Registration of the work visa with the local department of the Migration police.

Vienna city council, willis discuss prospects for new school.

VIENNA — Vienna City Council heard a presentation regarding a potential location for the combined Vienna and Neale Elementary schools at last Thursday’s meeting.

Christie Willis, Superintendent of Wood County Schools, spoke to the council about the location of a new Vienna elementary school. She said the original plan was to build a new school near the current site of Vienna Elementary on 41st Street, but another property has caught their interest.

“There is a property off of Rosemar Road where the current recreation center is located behind the ballfields, which would be a prime location for a new school,” she said.

Willis said of the three new schools Wood County Schools is building, Vienna Elementary would be the largest, with a capacity of 670 students. The Rosemar Road property measures at 11 acres. The space will allow for the combination of Vienna and Neale elementaries, she said.

Willis said she was asking for authorization for Pickering Associates to perform a due diligence study, which would determine if this property would be viable to place an elementary school.

“The first thing we will do is a topographical survey,” Ryan Taylor, Pickering Associates CEO, said. “We will study the topography to understand how much it would cost to grade and make this area ready for building a school. The school is roughly going to be close to 70,000 square feet. We will use a lot of that area.”

Taylor said Pickering Associates would study the environment to see if any materials were previously used that could cause issues. They will also do an archeological study.

“We are looking for things like primitive campsites, things that the state of West Virginia would say we shouldn’t build on,” he said. “That will entail digging about 700 little holes around the property looking for arrowheads, trinkets and things like that.”

The final two aspects of the study include a subsurface investigation, which drills into the ground and determines what types of materials are present and their conditions, and a traffic study to evaluate the traffic patterns in the area. The study would take approximately two months.

Taylor said Pickering Associates did a similar study for the new Lubeck school. He would like to start immediately if approved. He also said he would not interfere with the existing ballfields.

“As a former T-ball coach, I don’t want to wreck someone’s T-ball field,” he said. “We will work around your T-ball fields.”

Taylor said once the study is completed, Wood County Schools would vote to accept the study and Willis would come back to the council for further discussion.

Mayor Randy Rapp asked City Attorney Russell Skogstad if a council vote to start the due diligence study was necessary. Skogstad replied it was not since this would be an administrative function, not a transfer of property. Rapp said he would sign the letter authorizing Pickering Associates to begin the study.

The council also approved an ordinance on second reading to implement a Deferred Retirement Optional Plan for the Vienna Police Department. The DROP plan allows an employee to receive retirement benefits while still working. An employee can participate from one to five years and it must be completed when they reach age 65.

The following outline provides a high-level overview of the FTC’s proposed final rule :

  • Specifically, the final rule provides that it is an unfair method of competition—and therefore a violation of Section 5 of the FTC Act—for employers to enter into noncompetes with workers after the effective date.
  • Fewer than 1% of workers are estimated to be senior executives under the final rule.
  • Specifically, the final rule defines the term “senior executive” to refer to workers earning more than $151,164 annually who are in a “policy-making position.”
  • Reduced health care costs: $74-$194 billion in reduced spending on physician services over the next decade.
  • New business formation: 2.7% increase in the rate of new firm formation, resulting in over 8,500 additional new businesses created each year.
  • This reflects an estimated increase of about 3,000 to 5,000 new patents in the first year noncompetes are banned, rising to about 30,000-53,000 in the tenth year.
  • This represents an estimated increase of 11-19% annually over a ten-year period.
  • The average worker’s earnings will rise an estimated extra $524 per year.

What the New Overtime Rule Means for Workers

One of the basic principles of the American workplace is that a hard day’s work deserves a fair day’s pay. Simply put, every worker’s time has value. A cornerstone of that promise is the  Fair Labor Standards Act ’s (FLSA) requirement that when most workers work more than 40 hours in a week, they get paid more. The  Department of Labor ’s new overtime regulation is restoring and extending this promise for millions more lower-paid salaried workers in the U.S.

Overtime protections have been a critical part of the FLSA since 1938 and were established to protect workers from exploitation and to benefit workers, their families and our communities. Strong overtime protections help build America’s middle class and ensure that workers are not overworked and underpaid.

Some workers are specifically exempt from the FLSA’s minimum wage and overtime protections, including bona fide executive, administrative or professional employees. This exemption, typically referred to as the “EAP” exemption, applies when: 

1. An employee is paid a salary,  

2. The salary is not less than a minimum salary threshold amount, and 

3. The employee primarily performs executive, administrative or professional duties.

While the department increased the minimum salary required for the EAP exemption from overtime pay every 5 to 9 years between 1938 and 1975, long periods between increases to the salary requirement after 1975 have caused an erosion of the real value of the salary threshold, lessening its effectiveness in helping to identify exempt EAP employees.

The department’s new overtime rule was developed based on almost 30 listening sessions across the country and the final rule was issued after reviewing over 33,000 written comments. We heard from a wide variety of members of the public who shared valuable insights to help us develop this Administration’s overtime rule, including from workers who told us: “I would love the opportunity to...be compensated for time worked beyond 40 hours, or alternately be given a raise,” and “I make around $40,000 a year and most week[s] work well over 40 hours (likely in the 45-50 range). This rule change would benefit me greatly and ensure that my time is paid for!” and “Please, I would love to be paid for the extra hours I work!”

The department’s final rule, which will go into effect on July 1, 2024, will increase the standard salary level that helps define and delimit which salaried workers are entitled to overtime pay protections under the FLSA. 

Starting July 1, most salaried workers who earn less than $844 per week will become eligible for overtime pay under the final rule. And on Jan. 1, 2025, most salaried workers who make less than $1,128 per week will become eligible for overtime pay. As these changes occur, job duties will continue to determine overtime exemption status for most salaried employees.

Who will become eligible for overtime pay under the final rule? Currently most salaried workers earning less than $684/week. Starting July 1, 2024, most salaried workers earning less than $844/week. Starting Jan. 1, 2025, most salaried workers earning less than $1,128/week. Starting July 1, 2027, the eligibility thresholds will be updated every three years, based on current wage data. The rule will also increase the total annual compensation requirement for highly compensated employees (who are not entitled to overtime pay under the FLSA if certain requirements are met) from $107,432 per year to $132,964 per year on July 1, 2024, and then set it equal to $151,164 per year on Jan. 1, 2025.

Starting July 1, 2027, these earnings thresholds will be updated every three years so they keep pace with changes in worker salaries, ensuring that employers can adapt more easily because they’ll know when salary updates will happen and how they’ll be calculated.

The final rule will restore and extend the right to overtime pay to many salaried workers, including workers who historically were entitled to overtime pay under the FLSA because of their lower pay or the type of work they performed.
