Good morning, Respected Principal, teachers and dear friends. Today I, Karan, am here to present my views on the topic, ‘discipline shapes the future of a student.’

Discipline is a means of keeping the things in order. It inculcates in us a sense of duty and obedience. In the words of Swami Vivekanand: “Duty is obedience to the voice of conscience, discipline is necessary not only in schools and colleges, but in all walks of life. Absence of discipline will lead to chaos and confusion in life.” Discipline is a training, especially of the mind and character aimed at producing self controlled obedience. It is absolutely essential to the growth and development of an individual and a healthy society. It is indispensable for one and all in every walk of life. It is highly necessary at home, at school, in the playground, in society, etc.

Discipline must be taught early in life. The home is the nursery, where we receive our first lesson of discipline, through obedience to parents and elders. The value of discipline in the political, social and economic life of a country is no less important. Only a nation of disciplined people can rise to the occasion. An undisciplined nation invites its doom sooner or later. Hence, discipline is a precious treasure. Life without discipline is like a ship without a rudder and punishment is not a punitive way to reform a student.

Good Morning, honorable Principal, respected Teachers and my dear friends. I am Karuna, student of class XII of your school. It is a great opportunity for me to share my views in today’s assembly, on the topic, ‘Discipline shapes the future of a student’.

The students of today are the leaders of tomorrow. They are the backbone of the society. They are going to be the future leaders, administrators and nation shapers. Student life is the time when their character is formed and takes shape. But .nowadays, schools and colleges have become places of complete indiscipline. Whether it is the morning assembly, annual function, sports meet or examinations, one can see complete indiscipline in it. Man is a social being and he lives and dies in a society. So, he has to follow the rules of the society for which he has to discipline himself and this begins from the school itself.

Aristotle said,” Discipline is obedience to rules formed by the society for the good of all”. Without disciplines, one cannot acquire knowledge and as the schools and colleges are abodes of learning, it is required much over there. Students cannot gain much without discipline and the result can never be good. Thus, it is clear that the need of discipline is much required in the student life. Indiscipline leads to failure but discipline paves the road of success.

Humanity and Discipline

Discipline has been a critical trait for humanity for centuries. In the pre-historic era, cave humans survived with the help of a closely knit and well-disciplined group that hunted animals. In war, discipline is one of the admirable and required traits a soldier needs. Sun Tzu, the Chinese military general, marks the importance of discipline in a soldier in his book The Art of War. Kings and military leaders have always sought to instil discipline among their soldiers. The victory of the Marathas was because of the rigorous training and disciplined nature of the soldiers. Hence, discipline has remained a crucial human trait for centuries. It is the formula for being victorious against the hardships of life. Therefore one should learn discipline, especially self-discipline, to grow in his life.

Self-Discipline

Self-discipline has been an essential principle in many religious tenets. In the Eight-Fold Path of Buddhism, self-restraint has been described as a moral principle. The Monks of Jainism and Hinduism also follow strict discipline rules to gain control over their senses. Discipline is a skill that helps us to control our worldly desires or even in fulfilling those desires if appropriately used. How to Develop Self Disciplined

Time Management | When a person knows how to manage his time efficiently. He is closer to discipline. He can carry out his daily chores efficiently and in an organised way.

Punctuality | Being punctual is an essential step toward being disciplined. A disciplined person is always punctual and vice versa.

Removing Distractions | Distractions are the biggest hurdle in the path of being disciplined. It can be in any form - your television to the latest Youtube video, whatever is deviating from your primary goals in life. It is against being disciplined and thus pushing you away from success. Hence, identifying and removing these distractions is crucial to being disciplined.

Taking responsibilities | When you take responsibilities, you learn to work and deliver results in a fixed time frame. You mature and get disciplined in your actions.

How I learned to be in Discipline

I learned the valuable lesson of being disciplined from my school principal. He was a retired army man and always emphasised the benefits of discipline in the school assemblies. I took his advice very seriously and started bringing small changes to my day-to-day activities. I started waking up at 5 AM every day and have been doing so for the last three years. I drink eight glasses of water every day. I finish all my work on time. Being in discipline doesn’t even feel like a burden to me anymore. It makes my life easier and more organised. I feel very close to achieving my goals because I have been very disciplined.

Discipline is one of the most valuable life skills one can learn. It gives a purpose to our lives and motivates us to work toward our goals.

Even within developing countries, it is the unorganised sector like shoe-making, safety matches, handmade clothes, bangles, carpet weaving etc that has a higher percentage of child labour.

The more disturbing part is the way children are treated during their employment. They are made to work long hours, not given proper food, deprived of basic sanitation and often exposed to hazardous chemicals during the course of their work. This results in lack of growth, injuries or at times, even death of children. It also deprives the children of tender care, right to basic education, love and time to play.

To stop child labour, the government must strictly implement labour laws and severely punish employers found guilty of illegal child labour. Then only we can promise a better future for the children of this country. The government must find ways to end poverty which is one of the root causes of child labour.

We all know that ‘a healthy mind lives in a healthy body’. To maintain this good health, we should live in a healthy environment and surroundings. The most important of these are the sanitary conditions. We should not throw our litter or waste material anywhere, but use the dustbins provided by the Municipal Corporation outside the home and waste bins inside our homes. Garbage should be properly disposed off otherwise it will spread all kinds of diseases.

We should also try to ensure that all drains are covered. Stray animals should not be allowed in the colonies so that they do not dirty the drains and other areas with their excreta. Slum dwellers should be made aware of the necessity of healthy surroundings. Also, the Municipal Corporation sanitation staff should be taken to task if they neglect their work.

It emphasizes the importance of sports in student life. In a fiercely competitive world, career-minded students forget their playground. They mostly focus on science and neglect participation in games and sports. Only good grades in subjects count towards them. 3️⃣Parents must work with schools to instill a culture of "play" in children from an early age so that it accompanies them for life. We all know that a healthy mind resides in a healthy body. Today's children are largely inactive and unhealthy due to their sedentary lifestyle. Sports and physical education are the best remedies for children to lead a healthy lifestyle. 4️⃣Regular physical activity helps control or reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, hypertension, diabetes and osteoporosis, and improves metabolism. Sports and games keep us energetic and active. They take away all our lethargy. Apart from that, they are helpful in case of need. They increase endurance and improve blood circulation. All of this leads to relaxation and improves concentration and memory. So academics and sports are connected in some way. Therefore, indoor games also help us rejuvenate. Games like chess improve concentration. Respected the principal and teachers and dear students. i am (karuna) going to deliver speech about discipline today in this modern age our students are betraying due to lack of discipline. it is not fair as the students of today will become the policy maker of the nation. it is the student life during which the character is formed. strong character can be formed through discipline. discipline is an ornament of the student. every student must maintain discipline in his life as without it no one can shape his future. discipline should be maintained in every span of life. self-discipline is the key of success. best education can be derived through discipline it plays an important role in shaping bright future as it contains every success. discipline makes a man great and respectable in society. discipline develops the feeling of self-governs in the heart of the students so that they may serve the country. so we should work, study, live and talk with the feeling of discipline. discipline always brings self-confidence.
