TeamViewer wants a password for the Options dialog

I can login to my TeamViewer account but when I try to add a computer to the "Computers & Contacts" dialog I get a login prompt. This doesn't accept my account password. What other password is there?

You can protect the options with a password. I don't know why that would pop up when you try to add a computer though.

One way to get rid of that password is to uninstall TeamViewer and activate the checkbox to remove all settings and then reinstall it again. Another way would be to remove the registry key for the password (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\TeamViewer\Version9 OptionsPasswordAES) and restart the TeamViewer service.

  • 1 Depending on the version the key can also be in other subfolders of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\TeamViewer . It seems also that settings of earlier versions propagate on later versions (I had a password under Version8 which affected the behaviour of my version 10. –  Marwie Commented Dec 7, 2015 at 8:10
  • After removing 'OptionsPasswordAES' , worked well for me –  TechDog Commented Mar 2, 2016 at 11:20

It is called two factor authentication .

There are two possible ways to deactivate two factor authentication.

Deactivate two factor authentication in your user profile settings:

There is also way to remove using a recovery code (see link below)

  • I tried that but Two factor authentication has "Activate" next to it. –  parsley72 Commented Nov 4, 2014 at 8:47
  • Try to activate it, then deactive it @parsley72? Do you have different versions installed? –  Dave Commented Nov 4, 2014 at 8:48
  • This is not related in any way to 2-factor authentication - totally different issue. –  traveh Commented Oct 12, 2015 at 11:37

if you have the password.....you can disable it extras > options > advanced advanced, show advanced options, scroll all the way to the bottom and delete the password and confirming password from "Protect options with password"

but that doesnt help you if you dont know the password already, it just disables that requirement for extra authentication

Deployment Help

Hi, I'm trying to deploy out TeamViewer Host and It's all fine and dandy but I can't get the host to assign to my account and show up in my console. I've tried all the cmd lines in the documentation, I've tried using the msi and doing msiexec but I keep just getting the Windows Installer pop up with all the command switches I can use.

It's driving me insane that it's not working. Any help would be appreciated.

Tutorial: Configure TeamViewer for automatic user provisioning

  • 17 contributors

This tutorial describes the steps you need to perform in both TeamViewer and Microsoft Entra ID to configure automatic user provisioning. When configured, Microsoft Entra ID automatically provisions and de-provisions users to TeamViewer using the Microsoft Entra provisioning service. For important details on what this service does, how it works, and frequently asked questions, see Automate user provisioning and deprovisioning to SaaS applications with Microsoft Entra ID .

Capabilities supported

  • Create users in TeamViewer
  • Remove users in TeamViewer when they do not require access anymore
  • Keep user attributes synchronized between Microsoft Entra ID and TeamViewer
  • Single sign-on to TeamViewer (recommended)

Prerequisites

The scenario outlined in this tutorial assumes that you already have the following prerequisites:

  • A Microsoft Entra tenant
  • A user account in Microsoft Entra ID with permission to configure provisioning (like Application Administrator , Cloud Application Administrator , or Application Owner ).
  • A valid Tensor license for TeamViewer.
  • A valid custom identifier from the Single Sign-On configuration available.

This requires a Microsoft Entra Premium license subscription.

Step 1: Plan your provisioning deployment

  • Learn about how the provisioning service works .
  • Determine who will be in scope for provisioning .
  • Determine what data to map between Microsoft Entra ID and TeamViewer .

Step 2: Configure TeamViewer to support provisioning with Microsoft Entra ID

Log in to TeamViewer Management Console . Navigate to Admin settings .

In the Authentication section, click Apps and token .

Click Profile settings .

Click Add app or token .

Click Create script token .

Enter a name for your API token and select the following options for the token.

Account management

  • View online state.
  • View account data.
  • View email address.
  • View license.

User management

  • Create users.
  • Edit users.
  • View users.

User groups

  • Create user groups.
  • Delete user groups.
  • Edit user groups.
  • Read user groups.

Click Save, to create your script token.

Step 3: Add TeamViewer from the Microsoft Entra application gallery

Add TeamViewer from the Microsoft Entra application gallery to start managing provisioning to TeamViewer. If you have previously setup TeamViewer for SSO you can use the same application. However it is recommended that you create a separate app when testing out the integration initially. Learn more about adding an application from the gallery here .

Step 4: Define who will be in scope for provisioning

The Microsoft Entra provisioning service allows you to scope who will be provisioned based on assignment to the application and or based on attributes of the user. If you choose to scope who will be provisioned to your app based on assignment, you can use the following steps to assign users to the application. If you choose to scope who will be provisioned based solely on attributes of the user, you can use a scoping filter as described here .

Start small. Test with a small set of users before rolling out to everyone. When scope for provisioning is set to assigned users, you can control this by assigning one or two users to the app. When scope is set to all users, you can specify an attribute based scoping filter .

If you need additional roles, you can update the application manifest to add new roles.

Step 5: Configure automatic user provisioning to TeamViewer

This section guides you through the steps to configure the Microsoft Entra provisioning service to create, update, and disable users in TestApp based on user assignments in Microsoft Entra ID.

To configure automatic user provisioning for TeamViewer in Microsoft Entra ID:

Sign in to the Microsoft Entra admin center as at least a Cloud Application Administrator .

Browse to Identity > Applications > Enterprise applications

Enterprise applications blade

In the applications list, select TeamViewer .

The TeamViewer link in the Applications list

Select the Provisioning tab.

Screenshot of the Manage options with the Provisioning option called out.

Set the Provisioning Mode to Automatic .

Screenshot of the Provisioning Mode dropdown list with the Automatic option called out.

Under the Admin Credentials section, enter https://webapi.teamviewer.com/scim/v2 in the Tenant URL field and enter the script token created earlier in the Secret Token . Click Test Connection to ensure Microsoft Entra ID can connect to TeamViewer. If the connection fails, ensure your TeamViewer account has Admin permissions and try again.

Screenshot shows the Admin Credentials dialog box, where you can enter your Tenant U R L and Secret Token.

In the Notification Email field, enter the email address of a person or group who should receive the provisioning error notifications and select the Send an email notification when a failure occurs check box.

Notification Email

Select Save .

Under the Mappings section, select Synchronize Microsoft Entra users to TeamViewer .

Review the user attributes that are synchronized from Microsoft Entra ID to TeamViewer in the Attribute-Mapping section. The attributes selected as Matching properties are used to match the user accounts in TeamViewer for update operations. If you choose to change the matching target attribute , you will need to ensure that the TeamViewer API supports filtering users based on that attribute. Select the Save button to commit any changes.

Attribute Type
userName String
displayName String
active Boolean

To configure scoping filters, refer to the following instructions provided in the Scoping filter tutorial .

To enable the Microsoft Entra provisioning service for TeamViewer, change the Provisioning Status to On in the Settings section.

Provisioning Status Toggled On

Define the users that you would like to provision to TeamViewer by choosing the desired values in Scope in the Settings section.

Provisioning Scope

When you are ready to provision, click Save .

Saving Provisioning Configuration

This operation starts the initial synchronization cycle of all users defined in Scope in the Settings section. The initial cycle takes longer to perform than subsequent cycles, which occur approximately every 40 minutes as long as the Microsoft Entra provisioning service is running.

Step 6: Monitor your deployment

Once you've configured provisioning, use the following resources to monitor your deployment:

  • Use the provisioning logs to determine which users have been provisioned successfully or unsuccessfully
  • Check the progress bar to see the status of the provisioning cycle and how close it is to completion
  • If the provisioning configuration seems to be in an unhealthy state, the application will go into quarantine. Learn more about quarantine states here .

Errors Faced and Resolutions

During the implementation of the "Pay with Circle" popup functionality, several issues arose and were addressed as follows:

1. State Management for Conditional Rendering

Initially, there was no state to toggle between the default popup and the "Circle Pay" screen, making it impossible to display the correct content upon clicking "Pay with Circle." This was resolved by introducing a showCirclePay state to manage the conditional rendering of the two different views.

2. Popup Closing Mechanism

The popup did not have a close functionality, causing it to stay open indefinitely. This issue was resolved by adding a close button ("X") with an onClick handler that sets showPopup to false , effectively closing the popup.

3. Proper Event Handling

The "Pay with Circle" button wasn't correctly updating the UI due to improper event handling. To fix this, I ensured that the handlePayWithCircle function properly updated the state to display the CirclePay component, thus showing the appropriate screen after the button was clicked.

By addressing these errors, the functionality now works smoothly with correct conditional rendering and popup handling.

TeamViewer

Knowledge Base

The journey of the Embedded user starts from assigning his edge device to the cloud and the assignment process should be as simple as possible.

The assignment of a single device is mostly done for testing purposes or when evaluating the solution. The time spent on the assignment will not have a significant impact. But when dealing with a big project mostly you have a bunch of devices that should be assigned to the account. This procedure will shorten the time spent on the assignment process up to even without touching the device.

The  TeamViewer Embedded Cloud  offers assignments via token functionality which can be used both for single device assignment and for assigning hundreds or thousands of devices securely.

How it works

For each  TeamViewer Account , a unique assignment token is being generated. The  assignment token  can be used only for the device assignment to the account.

During the assignment process, the device connects to  TeamViewer Embedded Cloud  and presents its assignment token. The assignment service receives the token and connects the device to the account to which the token belongs.

Starting from that moment the edge device continues to work with the assigned account.

What you will need

Make sure that you have prepared the following points:

  • The edge device is set up with a TeamViewer Embedded Agent.
  • Your login credentials for the edge device (user name, and password).
  • Your TeamViewer credentials.
  • A tool to access the edge device remotely via ssh (e.g.  Putty ).

Assign the Edge devices to your TeamViewer account

📌Note: Assigning the Edge Device will override existing assignments.

1. To log in to the  Embedded Management Console , open  https://teamviewer-iot.com  and use your TeamViewer account credentials.

2. From the  top menu  click  Assignment token .

assignment_token-menu.png

3. In the popup click  Reveal  to see the token.

assignment_token-reveal.png

📌Note: Remember the token (TOKEN).

  • Log in to the  Edge Device  and use your credentials by using a  ssh-tool .
  • Assign the  Edge Device  to your  TeamViewer Account . In the terminal type in the following command and press return. Replace  TOKEN  with the token from the previous step.

📌Note: For mass deployment of Edge Devices, this command needs to be configured to run once when the device boots.
