Specification at a glance These qualifications are linear. Linear means that students will sit all the AS exams at the end of their AS course and all the A-level exams at the end of their A-level course.

Candidates who exceed this word limit often self-penalise because over-long work can drift out of focus, become irrelevant or repetitive.

Completion of the Historical investigation The Investigation should be completed in approximately 3500-4500 words, excluding bibliography, footnotes, and appendices, with a limit of 4500 words. No, footnotes, bibliography, question title etc do not count in the word limit. We're doing 3500 plus 500 source analysis (so total 4000). I think some centres are doing 4000 words essay though. Best to check the specification and/or double-check with your teachers.
