Program Course Descriptions

Dhnn-101 advanced behavioral science of disease.

This course focuses on the correction of disease through a process referred to as “Orthopathy.” “Ortho” means “upright, correct.” “Pathology” means the “study of disease” or “the study of suffering.” “Disease is right action or right suffering,” says Dr. Jennings, the greatest pathologist of the 19th century. This course covers definitions, etiologies, and very effective, Natural and Hygienic healing formulas for disease as presented by Dr. Herbert M. Shelton. (4.0 credits)

DHNN-102 Maximum, Body Energy & Energy Healing Concepts

This course presents the most advanced concepts on how to increase and maintain the body’s maximum nerve energy for maximum health, physical strength, and endurance. Maximum nerve energy is also the key for healing disease holistically and its prevention. (4.0 credits)

DHNN-103 Fasting: The Spiritual Art of Restoring & Preserving Health

This course demystifies the practice of fasting when ill and presents the amazing usefulness of the practice in restoring health. During a fast, the body rests and then uses recuperated energy to repair itself. Fasting is thus the quickest, safest, and most natural practice known to reverse and completely eliminate acute disease. Fasting is also highly effective in arresting, if not reversing virtually all chronic diseases, provided that cellular integrity and organic structure have not been irreversibly compromised. When cellular integrity and organic structures have been compromised, complete reversal and recovery may not be possible; but arrest of the disease process and higher levels of health can in most cases be achieved. (4.0 credits)

DHNN-104 Psychoneuroimmunology: Introduction

This course provides an excellent overview of the science of Psychoneuroimmunology and its philosophies, which laid the groundwork for modern-day “mind/body” healing techniques in the medical and healing arts worlds. The student’s attention is drawn to many experiments, proving the authenticity of the concepts unique to Psychoneuroimmunology. (4.0 credits)

DHNN-105 Advanced Natural Health I

This course presents the greatest Hygienic laws and natural health concepts laid down in the 20th century by Dr. Herbert M. Shelton. The student will learn, in depth, the true art and concepts of the restoration and preservation of natural health by natural, unadulterated means. (4.0 credits)

DHNN-106 Advanced Natural Health II

This course is a continuation of Advanced Natural Health I and further presents the greatest Hygienic laws and natural health concepts laid down in the 20th century by Dr. Herbert M. Shelton. The student will learn, in even further depth, the true concepts of the restoration and preservation of natural health by natural, unadulterated means. (4.0 credits)

DHNN-107 Natural Health Counseling Practice: The Legal Requirements & Responsibilities of a Natural Health Practitioner: Part I & II

This course teaches the legal in’s & out’s and do’s & don’ts of a Natural Health & Hygienic Counseling Practice. The course also presents very advanced and highly effective counseling techniques that will enable the Natural Health & Hygienic Practitioner to show clients and students how to restructure their thinking processes to overcome self-sabotage and to achieve amazing successes in their healthful living habits! (Part I: 4.0 credits) (Part II: 4.0 credits)

DHNN-108 Essay: Herbology

This course exposes the most poisonous components of herbs in common use today and their effects once ingested by the human body. The student will select a thesis statement relative to the topic and prepare a 2,500-word, typed, double-spaced essay developing the thesis. (4.0 credits)

DHNN-109 Advanced Neurobiology of Beliefs

This course will teach you that we must maintain a condition of physical, mental and spiritual cleanliness. How? By  “ allowing us to purify ourselves from everything that pollutes either spirit, mind, body and soul ” . Why?  Because your brain is the hardware of your soul and the very essence of a human being. It will teach you the scientific evidence that your anxiety, depression, anger, obsessive and compulsive behaviors are all related to the Neuro Biological workings of your brain and if it is polluted and in a toxic condition then the brain will not function properly. This course will teach you how to  “Remove The Cause”  of your toxic condition, Physically, Mentally, and Spiritually. (4 credits)

DHNN-110 Doctorate’s Thesis or Sports Nutrition & Physiology

(student’s choice).

Doctorate’s Thesis

The student will select a thesis statement and develop it into a 3,000-word, typed, double-spaced Doctorate’s Thesis on a specific aspect of natural health, as applied in his or her own life and/or in the lives of others. The student may draw upon any or all of the material from the Doctorate Program in the elaboration of the Doctorate Thesis. (4.0 credits)

Sports Nutrition & Physiology

This course presents a modern and thoroughly up-to-date 21st century study on the physiology of the human organism with a specific focus on the sports physiology of the digestive tract as it relates to sports nutrition for optimum power, strength and endurance. “You are not what you eat but what you assimilate that determines power, strength and endurance.” (4.0 credits)

DHNN-111-E The Mind of the Spirit (Optional)

The course will teach you that “minding the spirit” (“one’s way of thinking” or “mind-set”) as a spiritual person will empower you with a Divine active force. This course will teach you that if you “sow with a view towards corruption of your spirit, mind, body and soul, you will reap corruption, but if you sow with a spiritual, wholesome view towards living, ‘mind, body, spirit and soul,’ you have chosen to continuously perfect your life in order that you may continue to live the Mind Of The Spirit” (4.0 credits)

Elective marked: ” — E.” is suggested but NOT required for the Program.

Population Health Sciences

PhD in Population Health Sciences

The PhD program in Population Health Sciences prepares students to be leading researchers in population health sciences: an emerging interdisciplinary scientific field that aims to improve population health by addressing the multiple determinants of health and health disparities across populations and seeks to improve healthcare delivery.

Photo of students having a discussion

Our students are trained to investigate the social, behavioral, and biological determinants of health through measurement, design and evaluation of research studies that address the critical issues in health outcomes and delivery of healthcare services across diverse populations. Students receive didactic interdisciplinary training in biostatistics, data science, epidemiology, health informatics, and health policy and economics, as well as principles of population health sciences. Students also receive hands-on training in state-of-the-art data science methodologies such as machine learning that prepare students with cutting-edge tools to solve complex population health challenges.

Featuring a partnership between Weill Cornell’s Department of Population Health Sciences and the Population Sciences Research Program of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK), our students have the opportunity to work with internationally renowned and federally funded faculty in multiple areas including biostatistics & data science, epidemiology, health informatics, health policy & economics, outcomes research, and behavioral sciences; addressing multiple determinants of health and health disparities across populations and improving healthcare delivery are cross-cutting themes within these disciplines.

Graduates of the program are positioned for research careers in population health sciences, including postdoctoral positions and tenure-track faculty positions in population health at schools of medicine, public health, and public policy across the country. Population health scientists are also actively recruited by industry, including pharmaceutical, technology and consulting firms, as well as by governmental agencies, such as the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Applicants to the program are expected to have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree, strong academic record, demonstrated research interest aligning with faculty members, and prerequisite coursework in statistics, calculus, and at least one computer programming or statistical programming language such as R, Python, or SAS. Candidates must apply for admission online.

Successful applicants will likely have a background in one of the following data-driven disciplines:

  • Public Health

Becoming a doctoral candidate.

In years one and two, students are required to complete required core coursework, participate in a credit-bearing colloquium, complete elective courses, and prepare for and complete their admission to candidacy exam (ACE). Students with advanced degrees may be able to complete the ACE after one year. Students will complete at least one 3-credit-hour research rotation directed by a faculty member before beginning their dissertation research, and can take up to 3 research rotations (9-credit hours) as appropriate. These research rotations will provide students an opportunity to broaden their understanding of population health sciences by participating in ongoing faculty research projects or completing an independent project under the guidance of a faculty member.

Students in the program take core and elective courses in their first two years of program. The core coursework includes:

  • Biostatistics I with R Lab
  • Biostatistics II - Regression Analysis
  • Data Science I
  • Data Science II
  • Principles of Population Health Sciences
  • Advanced Epidemiological Methods
  • Introduction to Health Services Research
  • Introduction to Health Informatics

Welcome to the Institute of Natural Health Sciences

President’s Message:

The Institute of Natural Health Science (INHS) was established to provide a distinctive and thorough education in the natural health sciences. The INHS’s guiding philosophy recognizes that each individual is a composite of physical, emotional, mental, spiritual and environmental elements. Our health-building methods, rooted in natural law and supported by cutting-edge research, work to establish and maintain harmony among these elements.

In The Wellness Revolution, best-selling author Paul Zane Pilsner demonstrates that public interest in wellness and anti-aging is leading to dynamic and dramatic growth in the health and wellness industries. Pilsner forecasts that wellness will be a trillion dollar industry by 2010.

Consumer demand for natural health building and maintenance strategies requires that existing and aspiring health care professionals become proficient in the various natural health disciplines. At the INHS, we teach and practice homeopathy, nutrition, homotoxicology, electrodermal analysis, othamo somatic analysis, botanical medicine, auricular and hand therapy, theory of acupuncture and soft laser therapy.

These natural health disciplines are individual therapies that are part of one complimentary health building system. Practitioners utilize these therapies to return the individual to homeostasis by balancing the energy in the mitochondria.

INHS graduates are trained to work in cooperation with the medical community to restore health to one person at a time. Our graduates are also equipped to educate patients in their role and responsibility in the creation of a healthy life.

The INHS, a non-profit organization, was founded to serve the educational needs of those who seek greater understanding of the healing force within each individual. Here at INHS, we work to develop highly competent professionals in the field, to further the cause of natural health sciences and promote health for every human being.

About the PhD in Environmental Health Program

The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree program is a full-time degree program that offers a unique interdisciplinary learning experience where the course of study is individually tailored based on the student’s interest in understanding and finding solutions to pressing problems in environmental health and engineering.

The goal of PhD training in EHE is to prepare graduates to engage in scholarship and professional practice that creates new knowledge, use research to transform practice and improve the health of the environment and the public, and effectively communicate research findings to the public. The program requires didactic coursework followed by an average of four to five years of research towards a doctoral dissertation (also referred to as a thesis on official forms and committees).

Training is offered through a core curriculum that is required of all PhD students in the Department with the addition of track/program-specific requirements and focused courses in specialized areas.

Students are expected to tailor their curricula, working with their advisers to create a comprehensive plan of study and research. PhD thesis must be based on original research, worthy of publication, and approved by the Department and a committee of thesis (dissertation) readers. PhD students must also be engaged in primary data collection as a component of their dissertation research or embedded in other research during their training here.

Our programs are offered in the  Whiting School of Engineering , on the Homewood campus (WSE) and the  Bloomberg School of Public Health  (BSPH) East Baltimore campus. Students in all of our programs have the unique opportunity to take classes on both the Homewood and East Baltimore campuses in order to complete their degree requirements.

Students in the PhD in Environmental Health  program select from one of four tracks:

Track in Exposure Sciences and Environmental Epidemiology (ESEE)

Track in Environmental Sustainability, Resilience, and Health (ESRH)

Track in Health Security (HS)

Track in Toxicology, Physiology, and Molecular Mechanisms (TPMM)

Need-Based Relocation Grants Students who  are admitted to PhD programs at JHU   starting in Fall 2023 or beyond can apply to receive a $1500 need-based grant to offset the costs of relocating to be able to attend JHU.   These grants provide funding to a portion of incoming students who, without this money, may otherwise not be able to afford to relocate to JHU for their PhD program. This is not a merit-based grant. Applications will be evaluated solely based on financial need.  View more information about the need-based relocation grants for PhD students .
