Advice for your software team lead resume experience section - setting your application apart from other candidates

Your resume experience section needs to balance your tangible workplace achievements with job requirements.

The easiest way to sustain this balance between meeting candidate expectations, while standing out, is to:

  • Select really impressive career highlights to detail under each experience and support those with your skills;
  • Assess the job advert to define both the basic requirements (which you could answer with more junior roles) and the more advanced requirements - which could play a more prominent role through your experience section;
  • Create a separate experience section, if you decide on listing irrelevant experience items. Always curate those via the people or technical skills you've attained that match the current job you're applying for;
  • Don't list experience items from a decade ago - as they may no longer be relevant to the industry. That is, unless you're applying for a more senior role: where experience would go to demonstrate your character and ambitions;
  • Define how your role has helped make the team, department, or company better. Support this with your skill set and the initial challenge you were able to solve.

Take a look at how real-life software team lead professionals have presented their resume experience section - always aiming to demonstrate their success.

Whether you’re an experienced team leader or just starting out in your leadership career, this article will provide you with the necessary tools and tips to make your resume stand out and increase your chances of landing your desired position. So, let’s begin!

Key Elements of a Team Leader Resume

A well-written team leader resume is an essential tool that can help you showcase your skills and accomplishments and land your next job. However, crafting a strong resume can be a daunting task, especially if you are not sure which elements to include. In this section, we will guide you through the key components of a team leader resume.

1. Clear Summary Statement

Your summary statement is your opportunity to capture the attention of the employer and entice them to continue reading your resume. A strong summary statement should give a clear and concise overview of your skills, experience, and achievements as a team leader. It should be tailored to the position you are applying for and highlight why you are the right fit for the role.

2. Relevant Work Experience

Your work experience is where you can really showcase your skills and accomplishments as a team leader. Be sure to include your most recent experience first and work backward chronologically. Include information about the companies you’ve worked for, your job titles, and your duties and responsibilities. Use bullet points to make your experience easier to skim, and quantify your accomplishments with numbers whenever possible.

3. Education and Certifications

While work experience is crucial to any job application, your education and certifications can also strengthen your qualifications as a team leader. Include information about your highest degree earned, where you earned it from, and when you completed it. If you have relevant certifications or training, list them as well. These could include management or leadership certifications, as well as any technical or industry-specific certifications related to your field.

Final Thoughts

Your team leader resume should showcase your experience, qualifications, and accomplishments in a way that entices the employer to move forward with your application. Be sure to tailor your resume to the specific job you are applying for, and use clear and concise language to describe your achievements. Always proofread your resume carefully before submitting it, and ask a colleague or friend to review it as well to catch any errors or inconsistencies you may have missed. With a strong team leader resume, you can stand out from the competition and land your dream job.

Resume Formats and Styles

When it comes to creating a resume, the format and style you choose can play a pivotal role in getting noticed by employers. There are three popular resume formats that job seekers can use: chronological, functional, and combination.

Chronological Resume

The chronological resume format is the most traditional and commonly used format. It lists your work experience in reverse chronological order, starting with your most recent position and working backward. This format is best suited for job seekers with a steady work history and a clear career progression.

A chronological resume is easy to read and understand, as it presents a clear timeline of your work experience. This format also showcases your career progression and accomplishments, which can be beneficial when applying for a job in the same field.

Functional Resume

The functional resume format focuses on your skills rather than your work history. It is ideal for job seekers who have gaps in employment, are changing careers, or have limited work experience.

With a functional resume, you can highlight specific skills and achievements related to the job you’re applying for. This format allows you to demonstrate your strengths and abilities, even if you don’t have a lot of work experience.

Combination Resume

The combination resume format combines both the chronological and functional formats. It highlights your work experience and skills equally, making it ideal for job seekers with a diverse career history.

This format allows you to showcase your skills and accomplishments while also providing a clear timeline of your work experience. The combination resume is versatile and can be used for a variety of job openings.

So, which format is best for you? The answer depends on your experience level and career goals. Job seekers with a steady work history and clear career progression may benefit from a chronological resume. Those with limited work experience or changing careers may benefit from a functional resume, while job seekers with a diverse background may benefit from a combination resume.

Remember, the goal of your resume is to showcase your skills and qualifications to potential employers. Choosing the right format can help you achieve this goal and land your dream job.

By tailoring your resume to showcase the unique skills and certifications required for technical team leader roles, you can increase your chances of landing your dream job in software development or engineering. Use these examples as a starting point, and don’t be afraid to highlight your specific achievements and qualifications to stand out from the competition.

Additional Skills and Accomplishments to Showcase

When it comes to leadership positions, technical skills and knowledge are just the tip of the iceberg. In addition to these hard skills, team leaders need to possess valuable soft skills that can ensure the success of not only themselves but their team as well. As such, it’s essential to highlight these skills in your resume to set yourself apart from other applicants.

One crucial soft skill that is vital for a team leader to have is effective communication. As a team leader, you need to communicate regularly and effectively with your team members to accomplish project goals. This includes active listening, providing clear instructions, and giving constructive feedback. Make sure to highlight any experience or training you have in communication skills, such as leading meetings or presentations.

Another critical soft skill is leadership. Team leaders should inspire their team members to strive for excellence, and through strong leadership, they can create a positive and productive work environment. This means taking charge, delegating tasks effectively, and leading by example. Highlight any leadership experience you have, such as managing a team or leading a project.

Conflict resolution is another valuable soft skill for team leaders. No matter how well a team is functioning, there will inevitably be conflicts or disagreements that arise. A team leader should have the ability to identify and solve conflicts in a professional and diplomatic manner. For example, you might highlight how you managed to resolve a conflict between two team members or how you provided solutions to address an issue in the workplace.

In addition to highlighting your soft skills, it’s essential to showcase notable accomplishments in your past roles. Focusing on achievements rather than responsibilities can set your resume apart from others. Start by considering the tasks you completed that were above and beyond what was expected of you. This might include meeting a challenging deadline, completing a project under budget, or implementing a successful process improvement.

Quantifying your accomplishments can also be compelling. It’s one thing to say you improved a process, but it’s another to say you increased efficiency by 20% after implementing a new process. Use numbers and statistics to demonstrate the impact you had in your past roles.

When creating your team leader resume, it’s important to highlight your soft skills such as communication, leadership, and conflict resolution. Additionally, focus on showcasing notable accomplishments and quantifying the impact you had in previous roles. By setting yourself apart in these ways, you increase your chances of standing out from other applicants and landing the position you desire.

Resume Writing Tips and Best Practices

A team leader resume is critical to securing the position you desire. You may have all the qualifications, skills, and achievements required for a team leader role, but without a well-crafted resume, you may miss out on an opportunity. Therefore, it’s essential to know some best practices for crafting a successful team leader resume.

Here are some tips to help you create a winning resume:

Tailor Your Resume to Specific Job Descriptions

Employers want to know that you’ve taken the time to understand their needs and how you can contribute to their teams. Therefore, tailoring your resume to specific job descriptions is essential for highlighting your strengths and achievements that match their requirements.

Before submitting your resume, ensure that you’ve read and understood the job description. Make sure that you’ve incorporated relevant keywords and phrases that demonstrate how your abilities match the requirements.

Use Action-Oriented Language

Action-oriented language conveys your achievements and responsibilities more effectively than passive language. Instead of relying on dull, passive sentences, use strong, active verbs that show the impact of your achievements.

For instance, instead of writing, “I was responsible for leading successful projects,” consider writing, “Led successful projects that resulted in a 50% increase in productivity.”

Also, ensure that your action-oriented language highlights your leadership skills. Employers want to know that you have the ability to handle a team effectively.

Proofread Carefully

Nothing is more off-putting than grammatical and spelling errors on a resume. Therefore, proofreading is crucial to ensuring that your resume is error-free.

Proofread your resume several times or ask a friend or colleague to review it for you. Ensure that you’ve used the correct spellings, punctuation, and grammar.

Additionally, format and organize your resume for clarity and aesthetic appeal. Use bullet points to make your resume easy to read and avoid using too much jargon.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

One of the biggest challenges of creating a team leader resume is finding the right balance between highlighting your achievements and experience, while avoiding common mistakes that could sabotage your chances of landing that dream job. Here are some of the most common mistakes to avoid:

Use plain language and avoid jargon

Using complex or esoteric language (industry-specific buzzwords or jargon) might make you sound knowledgeable, but it could also make your resume hard to understand. Recruiters are busy people, and they might not have the time or patience to decipher what you’re trying to say. On the other hand, using plain language and simple words can help you communicate more clearly and effectively.

Be specific and targeted

Don’t make your resume too general or broad: it’s important to tailor your resume to the specific job you’re applying for. Generic resumes might sound impressive, but they might not showcase the unique skills or experiences that match the employer’s needs. If you want the job, make sure you show how your experience, achievements, and abilities align with the specific requirements of the role.

Focus on relevant information

While it’s important to provide details about your work history, including irrelevant information could undermine your resume’s impact. Stay focused on your most recent and relevant experiences, and avoid adding unnecessary details that have no bearing on the job you’re applying for. For example, unless you’re actively involved in community service specifically related to the job, don’t mention it in your resume.

Highlight your impact and accomplishments

One of the most effective ways to make your resume stand out is by showcasing your achievements and the impact you’ve had on your previous teams or organizations. Instead of just listing your duties or responsibilities, quantify your impact by highlighting specific contributions, measurable improvements, or successful projects you’ve led.

Proofread and edit carefully

Grammatical errors and misspelled words could make a bad first impression on recruiters, give the impression of carelessness, or suggest you didn’t check your work closely enough. Make sure you proofread and edit your resume carefully, or ask a friend or colleague to review it with a fresh set of eyes.

By avoiding these common mistakes, you can ensure your team leader resume is clear, concise, relevant, and impressive.

Finishing Touches: Proofreading and Formatting

Once you’ve crafted your team leader resume, it’s time to polish it and add the finishing touches. This is where proofreading and formatting play a critical role. A well-formatted resume with no grammar or spelling errors can make all the difference in landing the job you want. Here’s a guide on how to do it effectively:

Formatting Your Resume

Choosing the right resume format is crucial when it comes to creating a professional-looking document. As a team leader, you want to highlight your skills and achievements while keeping it easy to read. Here are some formatting tips to keep in mind:

Use an Appropriate Font and Font Size

Choose a font that’s easy to read, such as Arial, Calibri, or Times New Roman. Avoid using decorative fonts that can make your document look unprofessional. Also, use a font size of 10-12 points for the body text and slightly larger for headings and subheadings.

Keep It Simple

Limit the use of graphics or special formatting. A clean and simple layout is easier to read and will convey your qualifications more effectively.

Design your resume with clear sections. Typically, resumes should include: name and contact information, career objective, work experience, skills, and education.

Proofreading Your Resume

Proofreading your resume is critical. This is your opportunity to catch any errors that may damage your credibility or give the impression you’re unprofessional. Here are some tips for proofreading your resume:

Read it Carefully

Read your resume out loud slowly, paying attention to each word. This will help you catch any errors or awkward phrases.

Take a Break

Take a break after writing and formatting, then come back to proofread with a fresh eye.

Seek a Second Opinion

Ask a friend or colleague to review your resume for any errors you may have missed.

Formatting and proofreading your team leader resume is crucial when seeking a new professional opportunity. Using the right font and layout, as well as delivering error-free content, can make you stand out in a crowded job market. Remember to take the time to get it right and ensure that your qualifications shine through.

Team Leader Roles and Responsibilities

As obvious as it is, a Team Leader needs to be a team player.

Sum up All Your Information

So, how do you begin writing this document which can determine your future? (Yes, we are talking about your resume.)

First things first, before you try to segment all the information that you want to provide in your team leader’s resume, write it down in a master copy to make sure you don't miss out on anything.

For instance:

  • Your professional experiences
  • Collaborative skills
  • Leadership examples
  • Your education and certifications
  • Voluntary tasks that you may have led and so on.

Sectioning Your Team Leader Resume

Now that you have all the information in one place, you can begin to section this information and give it a crisp Team Leader resume format.

Have a look at the must-have sections in the following infographic:

Team-Leader-Resume-Sections

A clear format and tidy segregation will go a long way in impressing the recruiters.

The Header for Team Leader Resume

The header of your resume always needs to be your name. This helps maintain the unique identity of your document.

You must write your full name here and the font size should ideally be 16-20 points like in the following sample for Team Leader resume header:

Team-Leader-Resume-Header

Don't forget to initialize your middle name, if you have one.

Personal Details and Contact Information

Like every other section in your Team Leader resume, this section too is quite important. You must write your personal details like your contact number, email id, and current location here.

No matter how impressive your Team Leader resume might be, if the recruiter can't contact you, you will not get the job.

So double-check your details to ensure that you've mentioned a functional phone number and an email id with a password that you remember in your Team Leader resume.

You can also add links to your LinkedIn profile or any other online portfolio to this section. This will be a plus point for your Team Leader resume.

It's advised to avoid mentioning your race, sex, religion, caste, or marital status to avoid naive but biased judgments.

Here are some points to keep in mind while listing your contact details in your Team Leader resume:

  • Use your country's ISD code and put a + sign before the contact number
  • Always provide a professional-sounding email id. Preferably an email id with your full name
  • It's unnecessary to provide your exact details like your house number or street number when writing your present address

Profile Title for Team Leader Resume

Profile title is your current designation. The title can be written with a font size of 14-16 points in your Team Leader resume like in the following sample:

Professional Experience For Team Leader Resume

Now this section in your Team Leader resume requires a little extra attention and care.

If you are someone with 15 or 20 years of experience, don’t try to cram up the entire section with in-depth details about your old experiences.

Focus on recent experiences and leadership roles that you may have taken up. The ideal resume is only a page long, except for people with 10+ years of experience.

Even if you have just a couple of years of experience, it is best to frame one-liners in bullet points format for a reader-friendly and clear presentation. Provide ample leadership examples here.

Wondering how to frame effective one-liners to showcase your Team Leadership skills? Here are some pointers to keep in mind:

  • Begin your sentences with power verbs
  • Try to provide a percentage rate or figures to amplify your achievements
  • Always follow the approach of covering 4 important factors which will give the recruiter a general idea about:
  • The nature or background of your leadership
  • The task that was assigned to your team
  • How you led the team to complete the task
  • And the outcome or results of it

For example, you can write “Led the sales team during an annual big sales event to achieve 10% more than the target sale.”

You can take a look at this sample for writing your professional experience in your Team Leader resume:

Education Background for Team Leader Resume

Although Team Leaders don’t require a particular educational background to become a Team Leader, it always helps if you have an educational background in management, communications, or even just a general Bachelor’s degree.

Mention the name of your school, college, training institute (if any) along with their location and the starting and completion year.

Although not compulsory, it is advised to mention your GPA in your resume if it is higher than 3.5.

You can either mention any relevant certifications or training that you may have had in this section or you can simply mention the same in a separate section, as displayed in the following sample:

team-leader-resume-education-certification-section

Additional Information for Team Leader Resume

If required, you can have an additional information section in your Team Leader resume where you can provide information about:

  • The different languages that you speak
  • Your hobbies and interests

You can either mention both of these points or just one of them as shown in this sample:

Key Skills for Team Leader Resume

In order to speed up their recruitment process, 75% of recruiters use the Application Tracking System (ATS) to scan through applications and pick out the most relevant resumes for the job.

If you want your resume to rank high on the ATS, this section is your answer.

Hence, it is important to use ATS-friendly keywords in your Team Leader resume that showcases your leadership qualities.

Focus on the keywords that are linked to the qualities and skills required to be a Team Leader. Refer to the following sample to get an idea of how you can give leadership skills examples:

team-leader-resume-key-skills-section

As mentioned in the blog earlier, read and pick up words from the company’s Team Leader job listing where they will have mentioned the exact leadership qualities they are looking for.

You have to meet their requirements to be hired. Therefore, figuring out these requirements and showcasing your leadership skills in a way that meets these conditions is the key here.

Here's a list of leadership skills examples that most companies look for in a Team Leader.

Consider adding these skills to your Team Leader resume if they are true to you.

Team Leader Resume Summary

The summary in your Team Leader resume is an overview of your entire resume which gives the recruiters an intriguing glimpse of your Team Leader resume as a whole.

You must use this section to emphasize the leadership qualities you have as a Team Leader and at the same time, create an impact by showcasing your leadership qualities in not more than a few lines.

Always write your summary after you are done writing the other sections of your Team Leader resume so that you have a better idea of what to highlight and skip.

Begin the summary by highlighting the years of experience that you have and your contribution towards the organization's growth. Try to include the keywords mentioned by the recruiters in the job listing.

Here is a team leader resume summary example for better understanding:

A software engineer shares the résumé he's used since college that got him a $500,000 job at Meta — plus offers at TikTok and LinkedIn

  • Hemant Pandey shared the résumé format that has helped him land several software-engineering jobs.
  • He keeps job descriptions short and includes points that make for good interview stories.
  • Pandey emphasized the growing importance of personal branding in the job market.

Insider Today

Hemant Pandey's software-engineering career was off to a good start.

After an internship at Amazon during his graduate program, he landed a full-time software role at Tesla in 2018. The pay was "top notch" and it was a dream company.

Pandey, who grew up in India, even invited his family to visit him in California that summer.

Two weeks after they visited, he was laid off.

"It was my first job and getting laid off meant having to build rapport all over again in just six months," he told Business Insider. "I needed to prove myself again."

He didn't feel comfortable telling people he was let go and worried companies might see him as a bad performer and reject him before interviews.

But he was proactive about looking for new opportunities and landed a job at SAP within a month.

After a year, Pandey switched to Salesforce, where he stayed for two years. In 2021, he applied to Meta after learning about the company's "crazy" pay packages on tech forums.

Here is the résumé format that Pandey has used since college. It got him a $500,000 senior software-engineer role at Meta and offers from TikTok and LinkedIn. BI has verified his employment history and compensation, which included both cash and stock.

Making conscious résumé decisions

Looking back at his résumé 2 ½ years into his job at Meta, there are a couple of things Pandey said work well and he would keep the same.

Related stories

Limiting descriptions: When it comes to summarizing work experiences, "I like to keep it very ambiguous," Pandey said. In an interview, "if people ask me what I did at Salesforce, I can help them know more by explaining rather than writing a paragraph." He uses one to three bullet points for each role.

Including GPA: While his master's GPA is not very "impressive," Pandey chooses to include it and sees it as an opportunity to share a story during an interview. "I generally share how I bombed my first semester and was intimidated," he said about getting a low GPA and almost losing an internship he was offered. He talks about how he had to push himself to keep up with more experienced students and eventually scored better in the following semesters. "This makes a good growth and learning-from-failures story."

Ability to do basics: As engineers move to more senior roles, Pandey says the job becomes less about coding and more focused on leading teams and delivering projects. "But if I still interview for a startup, they don't really care about how I'm leading or shipping products," he said. "They care about if I can write code, if I'm tech savvy enough." To showcase his technical skills, Pandey lists projects and links to his past coding work.

There's only one change he would make to his résumé if he were to revamp it today:

Personal brand projects: "Your personal brand is now more and more important," Pandey said. "I write actively on LinkedIn and have a newsletter with around 4,000 subscribers," which he would list on his résumé's projects section. He would also include that he mentors students. Those additions "will start to matter more than just my tech skills and certificates."

Pandey is part of a growing group of workers and business owners who embrace personal branding as a way to boost their careers.

Quynh Mai, the founder of a digital creative agency, decided to embrace personal branding nearly 10 years after she began her business. Once Mai began giving talks and promoting herself on LinkedIn and other forms of media, she said potential customers trusted her experience more, she previously told BI.

"Building a personal brand connected to your business is more important than ever because people won't do business with anyone they don't trust," she said.

Some people in 9-to-5 jobs have adopted similar practices.

Sahil Dua, a senior machine-learning engineer at Google in Zurich, told BI that personal-branding projects have given him an edge in job interviews and have boosted his career.

"Tech-speaking experience actually helped quite a lot in advancing my career and came up a lot in interview processes that I was going through at the time," Dua said.

If he were to revamp his résumé today, he said he would add his experience speaking at conferences and a book he wrote in 2020.

"I would change that section to make sure I highlight that I've given these tech talks to increase my credibility and to say, 'Yeah, I know some stuff," Dua said.

On tonight's The World With Yalda Hakim programme, a British-Palestinian plastic surgeon appeared days after he said he had been denied entry to France .

Dr Ghassan Abu Sitta said had been due to speak to the French Senate on Saturday when he wasn't allowed entry into the country.

Last month he was also denied entry to Germany - where he was due to speak at a pro-Palestinian conference.

A French official said he was turned away because he was barred from entry to all Schengen zone countries based on a German request.

Dr Abu Sitta told Sky News that the French ban was "the result of a ban that the German authorities had placed on me for all Schengen countries".

"These governments are trying to silence the voices that are calling for a ceasefire [in Gaza]," the surgeon said.

He said it was "an example of how the German government is failing to grasp the idea that it is their duty as the second-largest exporter of weapons to Israel, to allow the public opinion in Germany to hear the witness statements".

He continued: "And so… rather than hear the witnesses, they're trying to silence the witnesses."

Dr Abu Sitta said the ban was enforced despite him giving witness evidence which formed part of the South African case against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

In January, the ICJ ordered Israel to refrain from any acts that could fall under the Genocide Convention and to ensure its troops commit no genocidal acts against Palestinians, after South Africa accused Israel of state-led genocide in Gaza.

South Africa has warned that Palestinians in Gaza were facing starvation and asked the court to order that all parties cease hostilities and release all hostages and detainees.

Hamas has said it remains steadfast to its position towards a ceasefire as discussions to try and secure a deal continued in Egypt.

Izzat el Reshiq, a member of Hamas' political bureau, said the group is sticking to its approval of the latest deal - which involves Hamas releasing hostages in stages in exchange for Israeli troop pullbacks from Gaza.

Israel however, said it would not accept the proposal in its current form.

As a result, delegations from Hamas, Israel, the US and Qatar attended further discussions in Cairo with the aim of agreeing a new deal.

Children who have been injured during the war in Gaza face a "lifetime of surgery", a reconstructive doctor has said.

Dr Ghassan Abu Sitta a plastic and reconstructive surgeon told Sky News at least half of the approximate 75,000 Palestinian's wounded in Gaza due to Israeli strikes are children, a lot of them with very severe injuries.

"[A lot of them] will need complex surgeries," Dr Abu Sitta said.

"What we know is that in the long-term children with war injuries will need between eight and 12 surgeries before they reach adult age.

"There is a lifetime of surgery awaiting these children."

Earlier this week, Unicef warned that 600,000 children are currently sheltering in the Gaza city of Rafah.

The charity warned of further catastrophe for children if Israel launches a military ground operation.

"Rafah is now a city of children, who have nowhere safe to go in Gaza," Unicef said, adding that the physical and mental states of the children are already weakened.

Dr Victoria Rose, a consultant plastic surgeon who has recently come back from Gaza, said the majority of people she treated were children.

"The children are basically running around on the streets outside hospitals, so they get hit by shrapnel after bombs go off," she said.

"It was just non-stop... shrapnel wounds, blast wounds and burns."

Throughout the day, we've been reporting on what the Israel Defence Forces says is a "precise counterterrorism operation in specific areas of eastern Rafah".

Troops are also "conducting targeted raids on the Gazan side of the Rafah crossing", it has said.

In the video below, our military analyst Michael Clarke  explains the situation in Gaza, including what the IDF could do next and if its recent movements near the Rafah crossing represent a long-awaited "strike" in the besieged area.

The UN health agency only has enough fuel to run its medical operations in southern Gaza for the next three days, the head of the World Health Organisation has warned.

The closure of the Rafah crossing between Egypt and Gaza has exacerbated an already dire aid situation, and Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said it has meant no fuel has been able to make it into the territory.

One of the hospitals in Rafah has already had to close, making it hard to sustain "lifesaving support," he added.

A lack of fuel has also meant WHO has suspended its operations in the north of Gaza "for now and for the coming week," Dr Rik Peeperkorn, the agency's representative to the occupied Palestinian territory, said.

Minimal medical equipment is still being provided to the region, he said, but warned it was not enough.

"It's what I call a band-aid," Dr Peeperkorn said. "It will not help avoid substantial additional mortality and morbidity [if] there is a full-scale military operation."

Pro-Palestinian protesters have clashed with police after erecting barricades to block one of the entrances to the University of Amsterdam.

Those involved in the protest vowed to stay put until the institution severs all ties with Israel.

The protests mirror those that are currently ongoing at Cambridge and Oxford in the UK and those in the US that led to around 2,500 arrests.

The University of Amsterdam said it decided to call the police due to concerns about security. Local residents also reported feeling unsafe.

It added that classes at one of the universities oldest buildings - the Oudemanhuispoort - could not continue due to the protest.

The university urged all those protesting to leave and said it continues to meet with demonstrators in order to try to reach an agreement.

An Israeli soldier has been "lightly injured" after a number of launches were fired in the area of Kerem Shalom, the Israel Defence Forces has said.

In an update posted on Telegram, the military said the launches came from Rafah in southern Gaza.

It blamed Hamas for the attacks, saying the militant group continues to "deliberately endanger" civilians.

"Moreover, the terrorist organization continues to fire launches from populated zones in the area of Rafah toward the Kerem Shalom Crossing to attack IDF troops, as well as the functioning of the crossing," it added.

This morning, Israel said it reopened the Kerem Shalom border crossing to allow aid into Gaza.

It claimed it had been shut for security reasons following an attack.

However, the UN has said aid deliveries have failed to restart.

By Mark Stone , US correspondent

Setting red lines is all very well, as long as you follow through when they are crossed.

President Joe Biden knows that all too well.

Too often these lines in the sand turn out to be a flawed tool of geopolitical diplomacy.

Western leaders throw them down in key-note speeches as unequivocal threats. "Cross the line, if you dare…" is the rhetoric.

Barack Obama's chemical weapons red line with Syria's Assad in 2012 was crossed.

Biden's Ukraine red line with Putin in 2021 was crossed.

Every red line is distinct and, of course, they vary in terms of their gravity of the event they are seeking to prevent.

But the principle behind laying them is the same, as is the message set when they are crossed.

Rafah has become Biden's red line

Over the past six months, as Israel has sought to defeat Hamas in Gaza, President Biden didn't think he'd need to lay out red lines.

After all, Israel is one of America's closest allies.

Instead, the Biden Administration thought gentle diplomacy and frank back-channels with a 'close friend of America' would do the trick.

But gradually, as Biden and the Netanyahu government increasingly diverged on protecting civilians and a plan for 'the day after' in Gaza, a red line began to appear - Rafah.

This has become Biden's red line for Israel.

The American president has repeatedly made clear his opposition to Netanyahu's insistence on a ground invasion of the southern Gazan city (Netanyahu's own red line) where about 1.4 million people are living, half of them under 18.

The Israeli military has not (yet) moved into Rafah city but is instead concentrating its operations to the east of the city and around the crossing to Egypt.

That fact has allowed the Biden administration to claim that its red line hasn’t yet been crossed.

"They didn't describe it as a major ground operation," spokesman John Kirby said this week.

Is the halting of aid just symbolic?

Sometimes, red lines are smashed through. Sometimes, they are gradually chipped away at.

The announcement now, leaked several days ago, that America has "paused" a shipment of weapons to Israel is significant.

It's not been done before and symbolically for Israel, in the middle of its longest and most critical war, it looks terrible.

It's an attempt by Biden to plug a hole in his red line. A warning to Netanyahu.

Israeli officials are said to be "deeply frustrated". That's Biden's intention.

But really, is it just symbolic?

It's pretty inconceivable that America would abandon Israel in terms of weapons supplies.

This shipment may have been paused. Others will continue including, critically, defensive weapons.

Biden is pulling plenty of levers he has to influence Netanyahu. He has others like properly gripping the settler violence issue in the West Bank.

But with every lever he pulls, there is a domestic political calculus.

Pretty much all Republicans are against every lever he pulls and so too are a significant number of his own Democrats.

But critical voters in key states are very pro-Palestine. It's push-me-pull-you and the election is six months away.

The conflict in Gaza is like a "game of whack-a-mole", a former Middle East adviser at the US defence department has said.

Speaking to Sky News, Jasmine El Gamal, said there was a reason Hamas has never been defeated militarily and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu needs to realise this.

"[Hamas] recruits keep increasing the more the Israelis go in," Ms El Gamal said.

"We are already seeing Hamas reconstitute in other places in Gaza, so this has really been a game of whack-a-mole than a long-term sustainable solution to the idea of weakening Hamas."

It comes as the head of the US Central Intelligence Agency is expected to travel to Israel today, where he will meet with Mr Netanyahu.

Bill Burns is also set to meet other top officials, according to a source familiar with his travel plans.

When asked how significant the visit is, Ms El Gamal said "very".

"Bill Burns has close relationships with his counterparts in Israel,"  she said.

She added that Mr Burns will likely tell Mr Netanyahu that there is "no military solution" and the only way Hamas will be permanently destroyed is through a negotiation of a two-state solution.

The Israel Defence Forces has claimed to have killed the commander of Hamas' naval unit.

It said Ahmed Ali was targeted during strikes on Gaza City in a joint operation by the IDF and the Israel Securities Authority.

It said Ali was responsible for "several attacks on Israeli territory" and troops on the ground.

Musk axes two more senior Tesla leaders, guts public policy team – report

It's not like you need wonks to put driverless robotaxis on public roads or anything.

The organizational tree at Tesla keeps shedding leaves, and a surprising number keep falling from the top with two more high-profile executives reportedly leaving the firm.

Elon Musk has announced Rebecca Tinucci, Tesla senior director of EV charging, and Daniel Ho, director of vehicle programs and new product initiatives, are both out according to The Information. In Tinucci's case, her entire team of nearly 500 people working on Supercharging technology have also been cut.

The email claimed Tesla would continue to finish working on Supercharger units currently under construction and would build out "some" new ones, but beyond that the future of Tesla's supercharger network - and the NACS standard championed by Tinucci that it uses - isn't clear.

Ho's 10-year career at Tesla included time as the program manager for the Model S, 3 and Y. His departure leaves a leadership gap at a crucial time when Tesla is allegedly working on a robotaxi service and - despite earlier claims that the project was being canceled - is still pursuing a low-cost EV design as well.

Most of the public policy team that worked under former leader Rohan Patel was also reportedly axed in Musk's latest layoff missive. Like cutting a vehicle program director, letting go a public policy team while trying to launch the first-ever driverless cabbie network in the US is a bit counterintuitive. We assume the Cybercab is right around the corner along with that robot that turned out to be a man in a suit.

Patel was one of three Tesla executives to depart earlier this month. With Tinucci and Ho being heaved, the car slinger's senior ranks are now light five people in less than three weeks.

We've reached out to Tesla to confirm the contents of the leaked communication and to ask some additional questions, and haven't heard back. It all reminds of us of Musk tearing staff out of Twitter.

Of the latest wave of layoffs, Tesla CEO Musk said he intended to be "absolutely hard core" about the near term of employment at Tesla. Leadership was instructed to terminate any staff who "don't obviously pass the excellent, necessary and trustworthy test," meaning the automaker might continue to cut HR costs.

Tesla hasn't exactly had a good run of late. The Cybertruck has mostly been a mess ; sales, profit, and other typical markers of corporate success are down ; prices have been cut , and it seems like good ideas are a bit hard to come by .

The justification for the gutting of teams whose work seems central to Tesla's current mission is questionable at best, but the cuts have to come from somewhere.
