Research Assistants (20 Positions)

Job title:    Research Assistants (14 Female: 5 Mbale, 5 Mukono & 4 Buyende) & (6 Male: 2 Mbale, 2 Mukono & 2 Buyende)

Report to:  Field supervisor who then reports to the Study Coordinator

Main role:  Working together with Researchers, Field Supervisors, Study Coordinator, and Investigators to collect data and ensure successful implementation of the study.

Key Specific Responsibilities

•   Attend all interviewer training and pre testing sessions.

•   Screen the selected participants and obtain written informed consent

•   Perform field data collection and management activities including completing interviews.

•   Correctly enter all interview information in the software using the provided gadgets

•    Ensure safe custody of both manual and digital data collected and follow all quality checks provided

•   Conduct timely follow-up of study participants

•    Provide the study team with daily updates on data collection and participate in the development of daily field report

•   Prepare data collection forms, devices for data collection, supplies and equipment

•   Ensuring consistency of participant identification numbers (PIDs) for all data and labels

•    Perform any other duties relevant to this position as may be assigned from time to time through the field supervisor

•   Adhere to COVID19 infection prevention and control measures as articulated in the study’s

COVID19 risk mitigation plan and as guided by Ministry of Health.

Minimum qualifications and experience

•    Must possess a bachelor’s degree or diploma, from a recognized higher institution of learning.

•    Worked in at least one research health study/project as a research assistant within the past 3 years.

•    Applicants should have demonstrated experience with collecting health related data using tablets/phones with software such Open Data Kit.

•   Experience in collecting data using quantitative or/and qualitative research methods

•    Possession of a Certificate in Good Clinical Practice or/and Human Subjects Protection is an added advantage.

•   Good oral and written communication skills

•   Ability to work well in a team

•   Willingness to work in fast-paced and occasionally demanding environment

•   Ability to fluently speak Luganda, Lusoga or Lumasaba

Duration:  This appointment is valid for the period of data collection and shall be automatically terminated

Note:  Recruitment of Research Assistants will be based on the above-mentioned study regions. Candidates should indicate their region of interest and language as they apply for this position. Applicants should also clearly state their experience with either qualitative or quantitative data collection.

Bhabha Atomic Research Centre

Bhabha Atomic Research Centre offers creative and rewarding career opportunities to young qualified men and women who like challenges in frontline areas of Nuclear Science and Technology and are keen to be a part of the expanding Indian nuclear power programme. Ample prospects are available for pursuing innovative research in Physics, Chemistry, Geology, Geophysics, Engineering and Biosciences at BARC and other DAE units. With this objective in mind, the visionary Dr. Homi Jehangir Bhabha set up the prestigious BARC Training School, Mumbai in the year 1956 as a centre for in-house training of professionals, for developing highly skilled manpower, thus ensuring that the country becomes self-reliant and self-sustaining in the field of Nuclear Science and Technology. To meet the changing needs of DAE, four additional BARC Training Schools have come up at Hyderabad, Indore and Kalpakkam. Career opportunities at various levels are available at the Centre in wide ranging R&D areas  of Nuclear Science and Technology. Personnel of DAE are broadly categorized as:

• Scientific (Scientific/Technical Officers) through training schools and direct recruitment .
• Technical (Scientific Assistant, Foreman, Draughtsman, Technician, Para-medical staff, Fire service staff, Horticultural staff)
• Administrative (Administrative, Accounts) and Purchase & Stores
• Auxiliary (Security staff, Driver staff, Attendant)

Scientific/Technical Officers

Recruitment of Scientific/Technical Officers(Scientists and Engineers) in BARC is either through Training Schools programme of OCES/DGFS and Direct recruitment either through Dr. K.S. Krishnan Research Associateship (KSKRA) programme or open advertisements.

Scientific Assistants & Technicians

Recruitment of Scientific Assistant through a One-year Stipendiary training scheme (Category-I) Scheme and Technicians through Two-years Stipendiary Training Scheme (Category-II).

Administrative Staff

Recruitment of Administrative Officials, Account Officials, Purchase Officials and Stores Officials direct recruitment by written exam/ interview.

Auxiliary Staff

Recruitment is normally carried out through open advertisements in Employment News, local and/ or national newspapers as applicable.
