I am not saying hangout is bad, but there are lots of things that are even better. Painting is one of my hobbies and I love to draw several things. When I was a kid, I thought to become a painter in the future. And still, I have that dream. When I get free time I start painting different things.

I have a different time schedule for reading books. When I get free times I spend them reading quality books. There are lots of books that we all need to read. Not only book reading, but you might also have a good hobby. You can spend time doing that.

Gardening is a really good thing to do in your spare time. If you have a good budget then traveling or a tour could be good for you. When you are on a tour it will teach you lots of things. Personally, I travel a lot. I wanted to become a travel writer. I read lots of travel books.

How I Spend My Leisure Time Essay

I admit that I am a very busy person, but I still believe in finding time to unwind and do enjoyable things. I intentionally block off time for leisure in my calendar. I also make it a point to aside resources and plan meticulously to ensure I get maximum relaxation from it.

Leisure is important to mental and physical wellness and should be taken seriously. It is a conscious decision I make to ensure that I am able to experience it regularly. Taking time out renews my vigor to tackle the challenging tasks I come across daily, as I am able to take breaks to reflect on a few issues about life. I mostly plan my leisure time on the weekends so that I can make space for my family and friends.

This is a short description of how I spend my leisure breaks.

How I Make My Free Time Count

My favorite way to spend my leisure time would be to hang out with my friends at the beach. I enjoy the cool breeze from the ocean and watching people have fun on the shore. Walking along the shores of the beach calms my inner chaos. Occasionally, I collect seashells on the beach and bring them to my siblings. Most of these outdoor activities highly depend on how favorable the weather is.

I also make the effort to make calls to friends I am unable to physically visit and check in on. Sometimes, the walks alone can take up my whole afternoon.

Other times, I like listening to the music albums of my favorite artists as I stroll along the beach. When the weather is hot, I like swimming on the beach or joining my friends to go fishing in deeper waters. Recently, I tried scuba diving and I liked the experience. I hope that I get to try it again soon. The breathtaking view of the reef is amazing.

Sometimes, the weather confines me indoors, but that does not mean I cannot have a good leisure break.

If I am having my leisure getaway indoors, I like trying out new recipes and different cuisines from all over the world. Being busy in the kitchen trying out new dishes is enjoyable, to say the least. The meals don’t always turn out the way I expect them to, but the experience is always fun for me.

Alternatively, I like reading non-fiction books, particularly those that talk about historical events, while relaxing on the couch. I like doing this with soft jazz playing in the background as I peruse through the pages.

At times, I also go to the cinemas and theaters and catch up on the latest movies and plays with friends. There are times when I just want to stay at home and catch up on my go-to shows. I like playing dance games competitively with my brother especially when he is in town. Although he is a better dancer than I am, we both enjoy the dance and have fun together.

I also travel to Africa annually and go on safaris or hike in the mountains. The experience is always great – from socializing with people of different cultures to watching animal wildlife in their natural habitat. The days I spend in Africa leave indelible memories in my mind and encourage me to save up to return and experience more.

The activities I mentioned are just the tip of the iceberg. I really like making the most out of my leisure breaks. All these experiences and memories push me to invest in rest.

I don’t know how you make use of your spare time, but I hope that you are using it well. It could simply be a matter of engaging in your hobbies, spending time with loved ones, soaking in nature, or even reading books. As long as it makes you feel happy and recharged by the time the next week rolls in, it is worth doing.

Different people have different kinds of preferences when it comes to maximizing their free time. There are so many activities to choose from – so there’s no excuse not to indulge in getaways for yourself.

Essay About A Leisure Time Activity

What do you do when you have so much free time that you can actually take extended time off?

I have had the blessing of enjoying a lot of free moments lately and it has given me the opportunity to get involved in the many things that give me joy. One of them is reading novels. I am a staunch fan of murder mysteries. I can never get enough breathers to go through them during a busy week at school, so my collection has been gathering dust at home. I have recently been able to finish two books each weekend, and I’m really enjoying it.

Another activity that I love doing is to write down my plans for the future. I don’t just mean plans for the next year. I like envisioning myself five or ten years from where I am and dreaming of what I’ll be able to accomplish by then.

Finally, I like playing games and indulging in recreational activities. Board games are a guilty pleasure for me. I recently rediscovered my love for classic Monopoly and word puzzles and have been challenging my family and friends for intense rematches on weekends.

What Are Popular Ways To Spend Leisure Time?

There are plenty of ways to wind down in your spare moments. There are those who get involved in competitive sports. Others want something more relaxing and simply hang out with family. More adventurous people travel to other parts of the world to experience and soak in another culture. Others write down their ideas. There are a rare few who spend days in the library looking to expand their knowledge on a certain topic or subject of interest. Then there are the more fun, casual, and popular group activities, such as karaoke, cocktails, hotel stays, and pampering trips.

Why Is Leisure Time Important?

Making space to relax and the wind is essential in making sure you can still excel in the other areas of your life. People say that rest is actually a life strategy. You don’t necessarily rest because you are lazy and don’t want to deal with your obligations. You get to rest for the ultimate good of those activities. It almost seems counterproductive, for example, to do a catnap the night before a heavy deadline. But ten minutes of sleep can actually re-energize your brain and refuel your creative juices so that you can power through the night and finish that requirement. Getting those breathers for yourself also protects you from burnout, which is a common ailment in today’s busy world where everything demands your time and attention. It gives you fresh starts, especially when you feel uninspired and stuck.

IELTS Essay, topic: Leisure time activities

  • IELTS Essays - Band 6

Some people think that it is important to use leisure time for activities that develop the mind, such as reading and doing crossword puzzles. Others feel that it is important to give one’s mind a rest in leisure time. Discuss.

leisure time essay for 10th class

Some people want to relax after their day of work. These people may prefer to relax by watching movies, reading or getting a massage. People who have a such as doctors, teachers and builders may choose these types of activities. If you are a doctor, you may feel that you want to let your body rest after work and you don’t want to do a five kilometer run after work, because you are already physically tired.

On the other hand, some people choose to be active in their leisure time because they do . For example, these people many spend all day sitting on a chair and their work. At the end of a working day, they a backache, and all of their body tired so they need to stretch their arms and improve their health by doing some activity such as going to the gym or swimming.

To sum up, the important thing is that people want to stay healthy by choosing what is best for them. In my view, the wrong way is to stay at home in your leisure time if you have a job.

This essay needs work. It has the right structure and covers the task. However there are many poorly structured sentences, many of the sentences are too simple and don’t have enough complexity, there are grammatical errors and some prepositions are use incorrectly (see comments underlined in blue). Overall, this looks like a Band 6 – 6.5 essay.

Essay, Paragraph, Speech on “Leisure” Essay for Class 9, Class 10, Class 12 Class and Graduate Exams.

The word ‘leisure’ means time at one’s own disposal or free time which is not filled by work, whether it is by a paid job or by schoolwork or by housework. It is, in fact, ‘time on our hands’ when we can do exactly what we want to do. It is, therefore, one of the pleasures of life to have leisure and to be able to use it intelligently because, however old we are, or young, we have only one life, and time is most precious to all of us. It cannot be wasted.

If we are wise, therefore, we do not think of leisure as time to do absolutely nothing, because to do nothing is, for most intelligent people, the most boring thing of all. “Sometimes I sit and think and sometimes I just sit !” is a European saying not to be put into practice ! On the other hand, all of us sometimes, need to relax completely. “What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare ?”

Leisure, then, is time to be filled in congenial ways which differ with each individual, but it is wise to fill leisure hours with activities which are different from our main occupation. Thus, we have a change. for the indoor worker, perhaps a bank-clerk or a copy-typist, to spend leisure hours poring over books or cryptic puzzles would constitute no change, whereas, for a gardener or a farmer to do something like this, would provide the contrast needed for relaxation. Indoor workers are better served by doing outside activities and vice-versa.

But again, how we use our leisure depends entirely on our own individual tastes and talents. Here, hobbies and leisure are closely connected. The game lover will spend every available fee hour playing the game at which he excels or of which he is fond. The book lover will spend hours poring over books and will be a frequent visitor to the local library. Many people, including Britain’s famous Winston Churchill, find relaxation in painting. He even found it in brick-laying ! A music lover will either play his favorite instrument or visit a concert. Television supplies the leisure needs of many.

The more varied the interests of each individual, the more varied, of course, will be his use of leisure. Wise people try to do many different things with their leisure hours, so that indoor and outdoor activities are included, as also are passive ones (like watching television) and active ones (like gardening or knitting). In this connection, it is wise for young people to try to develop many interests outside their regular work, some sedentary and some active, so that later on they will not be forced to lead too narrow a life. A criticism, and rightly so, of many universities in both the East and West is that students have to concentrate so had on their studies that they do not have time to develop interests and liking for subjects and activities outside their own. This is a pity and the lack of suitable interests for leisure is perhaps most of all felt when, men retire from the occupation which has filled their life-time. Then, at the age of sixty or sixty-five, they find themselves with the rest of life on their hands — all of it leisure. There is a vacuum indeed for the man who is unable to fill any of it with interest and occupation.

Nowadays, it is not only for the old, but for all of us that the problem of how to use leisure usefully and well arises. With increased automation, labor-saving devices and precooked food, the housewife has more leisure than ever before. With shorter working hours and holidays with pay, people all over the world have more free time. A hundred years ago, a man was lucky if he had one half day a week ‘off’. Today, t is a five-days working week for most people, with two or three weeks holiday with pay every year. This is right and proper, but there are pitfalls which a modern society must avoid. Boredom is one of them and this affects all age groups from the suburban housewife, to the old man who seems to fade out of life, because he does not know what to do with it. Teenage crime, juvenile delinquency, and the ‘antics’ of “Mods and Rockers” are attributed by many social workers to boredom which arises out of having nothing to do. ‘Satan finds some mischief still for idle hands to do !’

The most important point of all, therefore, is to be educated for leisure so that however much free time we may have, and at whatever age, we may always be able to fill it happily and well, thus developing our fullest possible personalities.

Leisure is that sweetest of moments when a man has nothing specific to do. When he is his own master and can dispose of his spare time at his own suit will .

Meaning of leisure: Leisure does not refer to idleness or laziness but it refers to relief or relaxes for a short period from the monotony of daily routine. It is not a non-activity but it implies an activity which is meaningful, potential and enjoyable: It is for its own sake as it is a period of personal fulfillment and pleasure. It is, so to speak, freedom of monotony, boredom, and drudgery of life.

The present time is a time of automation, better standard of living and longevity has further broadened and liberalized the real conception of leisure. The strange and wonderful invention of science and technology has also reduced the hour of working and consequently man has now found a lot of time to enjoy leisure at his suit will. In fact, very few people are aware of making the proper utilization of leisure.

Different people spend it in different ways, They have no proper sense or idea of it due to their ignorance, whim or uncared habit. To many others, leisure is a time to make creative and aesthetic pursuit and inner fulfillment.

Today's leisure: Today's leisure is spent in various ways People are rightly found in spending their leisures, watching T.V. The craze and popularity of TV is increasing day by day. A great part of their time is spent not in manly thing but in viewing programs in the idle box.

Such a craze and popularity of T.V. has created many socials, psychological, physical, family, individual and mental problems. That's why, leisure spent watching TV, enjoying cinema shows, and other lengthy interesting things may marginalize towards reading, social activities, and outdoor habits/hobbies to a great extent.

Source of enjoyment: Most men, therefore, find a life strenuous business. This is the tragedy of life, work and worry— both are equally unavoidable yet both are equally tiresome. The continuity of this chain has to be broken now and then to enable man to recover his freshness, to take mind off on a holiday. Leisure breaks upon the monotony of existence with a touch of variety.

Man's life is usually bound by routine; leisure affords an opportunity to escape out of the compulsions of routine and breathe the fresh air of freedom. This is, therefore, always a source of joy whenever it comes. Life on earth is not an easy affair these days. The mere task of keeping the body and soul together strains resources to the utmost limit.

To live well one has to be incessantly toiling, just to earn the extra bit of money. Hence the problem of having a workfree period is difficult to solve. The best way to do it is to have a socialistic society where work is a rationed in term of social needs.

The enjoyable leisure: Truly speaking, leisure is enjoyable in relation to one's work. After a day's hard and toilsome work, one needs to enjoy leisure the most. In absence of work, no leisure can truly be conceived. Leisure is a kind of diversion which pre-supposes work and labor. Rest is much sweeter than honey and money after exertion and exhaustion.

Totem Our life: Our life is now more free and leisurely than our forefathers. Now people have found out to spend their leisure time. There are interesting serials, spicy films scientific music, dances, shows, plays various types of information weather forecasts, different types of interviews, analysis of events, happenings and Incidents and many other things at twenty-four hours of the day. There are many sources of channels to choose from.

Necessity: Man is under the necessity of leisure. After a tiresome work a period of leisure makes a man fresh, energetic, and stimulates him to finish the unfinished work. One can spend leisure i n taking snacks at a restaurant, tea, cofee and other edible things At leisure one can engage oneself in meditation and religious practice. The great men all over the world in the past and even at present spent and now spend their respective leisures in meditation in pursuit of knowledge, constructive ideas, benevolence for the well-being of mankind. Leisure in man's life is as essential as food but its proper utilization in the fruitful way is wanted. The happiest man is, of course, he whose work is leisure, who finds a perpetual joy in the work he has to perform. To such a man work is never a soul killing drudgery.

Conclusion: Man cannot continue to work for all day long, He needs rest, race and leisure, for regaining energy, stimulation, and concentration for the next works.

We got together in a friendly chat with everyone before the start of the event and then finally the event started with the recitation of the Holy Quran.  The comparer of the event welcomes the participants for this day. The whole event was based on the program that was put into the categories of the variety of shows as well as plays and songs that was prepared by the junior students. These programs and shows are also based on the good and bad memories of our school tenure. Some of the junior students even read out farewell poetry as well.

Our headmaster ended the event by advising all the students to work hard in their life ahead and pray for excellent results and a brighter future.  This event made so many of the teachers and students emotional as well. Leisure is very important for a healthy life. We must rest for a few hours every day. We must have some holidays occasionally. We must enjoy a good number of holidays annually.

One cannot live long if one does not follow this rule. Our energy gets wasted while doing work. This energy is restored only if we have proportionate leisure. Not only our body, but even our brain also needs rest and leisure. It gets rest only when we divert our attention from the daily profession we are doing to some worth enjoying job.

Leisure is all the more important these days. Man has become very busy. If poor, he has to keep himself engaged to make both ends meet. If rich, he is after making more and more money. He wants more and more comforts. He wants to have more and more amenities of life. In this race of materialism, life has become very busy.

It is with the progress in a civilisation that life has become so busy. Our forefathers had enough leisure. They enjoyed more and more leisure than work. Even today, life is busier in advanced countries. In India, there are very many people who have enough leisure to stroll aimlessly. They have enough leisure to pass remarks on passersby. On one hand, leisure is essential.

On the other hand, it is a problem. The problem arises as to how it is to be utilised or enjoyed. If one whiles away one’s leisure, the devil will take hold of him. It is an established fact that an empty brain is the devil’s workshop.

So, education must aim at teaching men the right and proper use of leisure. It must equip every person mentally. This can be done only when their attention is diverted from idle gossips to some healthy activities. The man should be taught to do some such thing as may help him in making him cultured. This can be done in the schools through co-curricular activities. It is through such activities these healthy habits may be developed among the students.

Essay on “Value of Leisure” for Kids and Students, English, Paragraph, Speech for Class 8, 9, 10, 12, College and Competitive Exams.

Value of Leisure

Modern age is the age of machine. Everybody is busy from morning till evening. Very few people find free time from their busy schedule But those who have plenty of leisure do not know how to spend it Most of them waste it away either in day-dreaming or in gossips. Leisure should be spent pleasantly and usefully.

The best way to spend leisure is to read books. Books are man’s lifelong companions. They do not let man feel lonely. They fill man’s free time in a purposeful manner. They not only entertain him but also educate him. By enrolling oneself in a library, one can get a variety of books.

There are numerous hobbies which can help us to spend our leisure usefully. One can select one or more hobbies to suit one’s taste. Many people are fond of stamp-collecting, as a hobby. They are always on the lookout for new stamps. Gardening is another hobby. It keeps man busy in sowing seeds; watering plants and watching them bear flowers and fruit. Photography, rowing, listening music etc are other interesting hobbies.

Leisure can be spent in developing new skills by joining some classes. It can be driving, cooking, painting and sketching. Playing games like cricket or football gives us rest and relaxation from our routine. Cycling tours and walking trips also help us to enjoy our leisure.

There are some other ways to use our leisure in a fruitful manner. We can organise discussion groups. Topics of vital importance can be discussed. We can assist in family planning programmes. We can help to promote literacy drive. We can even play with children in our free time.

Leisure-It’s Use and Advise

Essay No. 01

POINTS TO DEVELOP

  • Human beings have always been drawn to a pause in work to carry on some creative activity.
  • Modern times-extremely busy lives, leading to physical and psychological problems, because leisure is a forgotten entity.
  • Distraction from work as necessary as work,
  • Ways to spend leisure time.
  • Advent of television and leisure.
  • Abuses of leisure.
  • Balance between work and leisure essential.

Human beings, ever since they emerged in earth have primarily been occupied with trying to meet their basic needs of food and shelter. Scientific studies have revealed that during prehistoric times humans were mostly engaged in hunting animals for food or in protecting themselves from predators and the elements. But even in those difficult times, whatever free time was available seemed to naturally attract human beings to creative activity, a proof of which are the cave paintings from those days. Once human life became more organised and settlements and civilisations were established, leisure and activities carried out in leisure became a more regular feature of human life. Most of the artefacts, which today give us documentary evidence of past cultures and civilisations, are products of leisure.

In modern times, especially due to industrialisation, life has taken a different turn. While on the one hand life has become extremely busy, at the same time specialised areas of activity and fixed working hours offer the possibility of considerable free time. Leisure implies free or unoccupied time, when there is freedom from the demands of work or duty. The social structure has developed in such a manner that some sections of the society maintain rich lifestyles with plenty of leisure, whereas the majority 0f human beings are preoccupied with the battle for survival. Relaxation and leisure are words that seldom have any relevance to their life. These people live under constant stress and demands of modernity. Consequently, they are prone to physical and psychological problems. It is essential to spare some time from a mechanical routine and spend this time to rejuvenate the mind and the body.

“All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.” Most of us are familiar with this phrase. It stresses the need for engagement in activities other than work for a complete development of human personality. Leisure and free time well spent are as essential as food and sleep.

Free time can be utilised in a variety of ways. Activities to suit all budgets, demands of space, and individual and social needs exist from which one can choose according to one’s inclination and interest. Reading is one of the most popular free time activities. A wide range of subjects and the existence of well-maintained libraries has made reading a very rewarding and affordable activity. From simple entertainment to highly specialised discourses, reading invariably contributes to one’s knowledge and helps widen one’s perspective. It is an inexpensive pastime that can be indulged virtually in any place. Other common activities are music, gardening, carpentry, cooking, etc. One can also choose from activities which are directly relevant to the society, like social work, caring for abandoned and stray animals, caring for the environment, etc. Activities in the areas enumerated above impart a sense of achievement besides giving meaning and purpose to life. Activities like carpentry, painting and clay-modelling help satisfy the creative impulse in many an amateur artist. Socialising is also a healthy activity and promotes goodwill and mutual understanding among people.

The field of sports offers a wide range of activities to choose from. It has the advantage of catering to physical fitness and thus helping to develop a healthy attitude towards life. Games and sports can be chosen according to one’s physical capacity. They encourage sportsmanship and an ability to accept defeat and victory gracefully.

Unfortunately, the advent of television has taken a heavy toll of other hobbies. Two of the worst affected activities are reading and healthy socialising. On the one hand, television has many advantages, but on the other hand it is a medium which can very easily be misused by both the viewers and the producers of programmes.

Leisure can easily be abused too. “An idle mind is a devil’s workshop.” Whiling away time in useless activities is the most common abuse of leisure. People often hang around commercial centers, cinema halls, restaurants and bus stops. Such behaviour can become almost addictive and discourages all creative potential. Idleness can force a person into bad company and even anti-social activities. It is thus essential to impart to children right from their early days the value of leisure and its meaningful use.

A balanced and sensible person will never make work alone an end. Relaxation of the mind and the body, awareness of one’s social responsibilities, and catering to one’s creative needs are traits of a healthy and complete personality. Many problems and crises associated with modern life can be successfully combated by proper utilisation of one’s free time. By coordinating one’s talents and faculties one can break the monotony of modern life and prevent life from becoming a burden.

Essay No. 02

Leisure: Uses and Abuses

The observation that “we must beat the iron when it is hot, but we may polish it at leisure”, best explains the proper relation between work and leisure. Leisure is like the margin on a printed or written page. “Leisure with honour” should be our guiding principle. A leisure is honourable when it is earned with the sweat of the brow. Leisure means free and unoccupied, or spare time for rest, recreation-and pursuits of pleasure. Leisure is a kind of breathing space, or a pause in the long hours of work and labour.

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, is a well known saying. After long hours of work and struggle, we need moments of rest, relaxation, respite and a kind of short holiday. A little time devoted to regular diversion of the mind is bound to strengthen and refresh us for better achievements in our respective fields of occupation. With the introduction of scientific gadgets, machines, computers and automation, we are bound to have more and more leisure time. The five-day work a week gives people a lot of spare time to be spent for recreation, rest and intellectual pursuits. The housewife has also now much leisure as there are many labour-saving devices being used in households. Therefore, now all of us can enjoy long hours of leisure.

But many of us do not know how to make proper use of moments of leisure bestowed on us by scientific developments. For many of us leisure time is more boring and monotonous-than the daily routine occupation for our lack of knowledge as how to use free time profitably and productively. Leisure is like a two edged sword which can be either used or misused. Leisure never means idleness or lack of work. We can judge a person by the way he uses his leisure time. It never means frittering away the precious time of leisure in idle talking, gossiping, drinking, gambling or card playing. We should view the leisure time as a golden opportunity and use it for our intellectual, spiritual and aesthetic development. The proper use of spare time can help us a lot in shaping and developing our personality in a desired way. It is really bad if we spend leisure without any definite plan to have purposeful gains. It is, in fact, an abuse of leisure if we use it idly. Leisure time gives us a golden opportunity to satisfy our inner demands. By means of our regular occupations we satisfy our material and physical demands. Now, during leisure we can very well satisfy our social, cultural, aesthetic, intellectual and spiritual’ demands. We can devote our leisure time in reading and writing, in learning and practicing music, or in the pursuit of some creative and social activity.

We must analyse our resources, aptitude and bent of mind and select our leisure time activity. Once we have decided our aim and object to be achieved during these quiet and relaxed hours, we can make our leisure interesting, meaningful and worthwhile. We are cultured and sensible in proportion to the proper use we make of leisure. An idle mind is devil’s workshop. If we are idle in our leisure time, we turn into devil’s disciples. No sensible person would like to be called the Satan’s pupil. For good and intelligent people all cultural improvements arise from leisure. Leisure helps us in becoming whole, integrated and cultured men and women. During these precious golden moments of respite, we can stand and stare at things beautiful, ponder on the meaning of life and turn our life into a real asset and a thing of beauty and joy forever.

Only the unimaginative, dull, unfeeling and insensible person would complain of boredom and monotony during leisure. Leisure is not for mental dissipation, flirtation, idle gossip and killing of time, instead it is time for enrichment of our moral, intellectual and aesthetic sensibilities and energies. The human mind is like a mighty weapon, which can be made more effective by timely rest, polishing and refinement.

Therefore, it is no exaggeration if it is asserted that leisure affords us a golden chance for self-elevation.. self-culture, intellectual pursuits and aesthetics development. Leisure is also a sure guard against overwork, fatigue, monotony and greed of money. Overwork tells both upon mind and body. Those who do not have the healing touch of leisure are found easily irritable, unsocial, churlish and weighed down with the heaviness of their work. Present life is under so many pressure and tensions. In every field there is a cut-throat competition. Therefore, leisure has become all the more important and valuable. Leisure carried infinite advantages for all those who enter its realm in a right spirit and mood.
