Video-Based Inpatient Fall Risk Assessment: A Case Study
Inpatient falls are a serious safety issue in hospitals and healthcare facilities. Recent advances in video analytics for patient monitoring provide a non-intrusive avenue to reduce this risk through continuous activity monitoring. However, in- bed fall risk assessment systems have received less attention in the literature. The majority of prior studies have focused on fall event detection ...

Video-Based Inpatient Fall Risk Assessment: A Case Study
A video-based system that can monitor the risk of a patient falling, and alert staff of unsafe behaviour to help prevent falls before they occur is proposed and it is demonstrated how such a system could enable sufficient lead time for healthcare professionals to respond and address patient needs. Inpatient falls are a serious safety issue in hospitals and healthcare facilities.
Video-Based Inpatient Fall Risk Assessment: A Case Study
The majority of prior studies have focused on fall event detection, and do not consider the circumstances that may indicate an imminent inpatient fall. Here, we propose a video-based system that can monitor the risk of a patient falling, and alert staff of unsafe behaviour to help prevent falls before they occur.

Identification of important factors in an inpatient fall risk
Existing falls risk assessment tools, such as the Morse Fall Scale, give a risk score based on a set of factors, but don't necessarily signal which factors are most important for predicting falls. Artificial intelligence (AI) methods provide an opportunity to improve predictive performance while also identifying the most important risk ...
Inpatient Falls and Implementation of an Evidence-Based Fall Prevention
Design, Setting, and Participants In this economic evaluation, a matched case-control study used the findings from an interrupted time series analysis that assessed changes in fall rates following implementation of an evidence-based fall prevention program to understand the cost of inpatient falls. An economic analysis was then performed to ...

A Machine Learning-Based Fall Risk Assessment Model for Inpatients
The inpatient data were collected from 15 inpatient wards. To develop timely and effective fall prediction models for inpatients, we retrieved the data of multiple-time assessment variables at four points during hospitalization. This study used various supervised machine learning algorithms to build classification models.
