Research Associate / Research Assistant

[Appointment period: twelve months initially, with possibility of further appointment]

The appointee will assist the project leader in the research projects - “Family resilience of Hong Kong low-income families with adolescent children: The role of positive youth development attributes” and/or “A prospective study of newly-arrived immigrant adolescents from Mainland China to Hong Kong: The way to thrive”.  He/She will be required to:

(a)    conduct literature review;

(b)    liaise with different organisations for the recruitment of participants;

(c)    collect and analyse quantitative and qualitative data from surveys and interviews;

(d)    assist in report writing and manuscript preparation; and

(e)    perform any other duties as assigned by the project leader or her delegates.

Qualifications

Applicants for the Research Associate post should have a master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Education or other related disciplines or a good honours degree in one of the said disciplines with three or more years of research/relevant work experience.

Applicants for the Research Assistant post should have an honours degree in one of the above-menmtioned disciplines or an equivalent qualification.

Applicants should also: 

(a)    have a good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese, with fluency in Cantonese and Putonghua;

(b)    have good knowledge of using statistical software such as SPSS, Mplus and AMOS;

(c)    have strong research interests in youth development, family studies, evaluation, etc.;

(d)    have a strong sense of responsibility and good interpersonal skills; and

(e)    be able to work independently.

Research Associate

Applicants should have (i) a PhD degree or a Master's degree in Biochemistry or other Biological Sciences disciplines with a firm background in molecular and cell biology; (ii) at least one year of relevant post-qualification research experience (for PhD degree holders), OR at least four years of relevant post-qualification research experience (for Master’s degree holders); (iii) knowledge of cancer cell signaling and flow cytometry; and (iv) a publication track record. Prior experience in in-vivo studies will be an advantage.

The appointee will be responsible for (a) conducting research work on blood cancer; (b) drafting manuscripts and grant proposals; (c) preparing academic publications in various scientific journals; (d) supervising research staff and postgraduate students; and (e) performing other tasks and projects as assigned.

Appointment will initially be made on contract basis for one year, renewable subject to good performance and mutual agreement
