Joanne Rowling – Life and Work

Joanne Rowling was born in Yate, Gloucestershire. She faced a lot of hardships as a young woman. She went through a divorce and had to nurture and support her child on her own. She faced a financial crunch and was almost in rags. However, she kept working hard. She wrote the draft of the first book in the Harry potter series but could not get it published for long. She faced rejection from several publishers.

Though disappointed, Joanne did not give up and finally, her hard work paid off. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, Joanne’s first novel in the Harry Potter series was published in 1997 and it received an overwhelming response. Her life was back on track. She could now afford a good lifestyle and provide an excellent education to her child.

This inspired her to write its sequel which was well received too. The success of the sequel motivated her to write more and she came up with six sequels of the Harry Potter series. The last one was published in 2007. These were all written under her pseudonym, J. K. Rowling. She has also written other books. These were written under the pen name, Robert Galbraith.

Rowling’s writings are intriguing and her life journey is inspiring. I simply love her writing and adore her for the person she is. I am particularly a fan of her undying determination and never say die spirit.

An Essay on My Favourite Author William Shakespeare [With PDF]

Hello reader, today we came with an essay on one of the most popular globally recognized author Sir William Shakespeare. So let’s dive into the essay!

William Shakespeare feature image

Not all good authors are found in the late 20th or early 21st centuries. There are a lot of top authors who set the standard for the newer ones to follow. One such man was William Shakespeare.

His overall work has set the standard with its timeless content that could apply to just about any generation. That is if you can get past the olde English Mr. Shakespeare wrote in and used it as his native tongue.

Olde English is not always easy to understand as some of the words do not have the same meaning as similar terms do today. But ignoring Shakespeare’s content because one is too lazy to learn those words and their proper application means one is missing out on valuable information and modern-day use.

Once you get past the terminology Mr. Shakespeare used, you will see a wealth of information that helps us understand ourselves and the difficulties other people face. For example, Hamlet’s struggles are a very good lesson in seeing how depressed people think.

The insights Mr. Shakespeare provides can be very valuable to us if we want to help struggling people get better and a better grip on reality. King Lear is another helpful story that shows that flattery is often disguising deceit and ulterior motives.

The unfolding plot of King Lear shows how loyalty can make a difference even when the person holding that loyalty has struggles and troubles of their own. Finally, the account shows how true love may not always win the day. That is the reality of life.

King Lear’s youngest daughter brings an invading force from France to help her father and rescue him from her two older deceitful sisters. But she is defeated due to trickery and more deceit. The lust for power is too powerful for the honest and loving to overcome.

King Richard II is another play written by William Shakespeare and inside its plot are many lessons that people who aspire to power need to learn. One such lesson is that for every person wanting to be king or president, there are always competitors willing to stop at nothing to achieve that powerful position.

The play also shows what happens when people do not rule wisely or continues to make poor choices without learning from their mistakes. Those decisions and actions are underscored by Richard II’s greed as he steals land and money from a deceased uncle

When that takes place, we see that there are many lesser positioned people ready to take action to get the unworthy leader off their throne of power. Especially when that greed has stolen someone’s rightful inheritance.

In this play, we see that power must be handled correctly if one stands a chance of remaining a position of leadership for along time. This statement is supported by the many dictators who have grabbed power and ruled badly only to be removed by the same means he took over a country.

William Shakespeare seemed to have his fingers on the pulse of what made men and women tick. He wrote about these different situations with power, clarity, and openness for all to see.

In his books, plays and other writings, he seems to be able to capture the main essence and retell the stories in a compelling manner. The many lessons included in his works are there for anyone to peruse and study them. They still apply approx., 400 years after Shakespeare’s death.

William Shakespeare did not write with a personal bias nor to unduly influence people’s thinking. His works allow his readers and actors to make up their own minds about the different events, attitudes, and behavior he recorded in those pages.

He is a timeless writer who should be a good influence on all modern writers who wish to write quality material that has some impact on future generations.

My Favourite Book Essay Example #1

Books have a unique way of transporting the reader to a different world, and for me, “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee is one such book. This novel has been my favourite book for many years now. It explores various themes, including racial injustice, morality, and the loss of innocence. The characters in the novel are complex and well-developed, making it a must-read for anyone who loves literature. In this essay, I will discuss why “To Kill a Mockingbird” is my favourite book, and how it has impacted my life.

One of the most significant themes explored in “To Kill a Mockingbird” is racial injustice. The novel is set in the deep south of the United States during the 1930s, a time when racial segregation was rampant. The story follows the trial of Tom Robinson, a black man accused of raping a white woman. The way the trial is conducted and the verdict that is reached highlights the injustice that was prevalent during that time. Through the character of Atticus Finch, the novel shows the importance of standing up for what is right, even if it means going against societal norms. The theme of racial injustice is still relevant in today’s world, and “To Kill a Mockingbird” serves as a reminder of the need to fight against discrimination and prejudice.

Another theme explored in “To Kill a Mockingbird” is morality. The novel teaches valuable lessons about right and wrong, and the importance of empathy and understanding. Through the character of Atticus Finch, the novel shows the importance of treating everyone with respect and dignity, regardless of their race or social status. The novel also highlights the need for courage and integrity, even in the face of adversity. The moral lessons taught in the novel are essential for everyone, and they have impacted my life greatly.

One of the things that make “To Kill a Mockingbird” such an intriguing read is the complex characters that are well-developed. The character of Scout Finch, the narrator of the story, grows and matures throughout the novel, and her perspectives on life change as she gains more understanding of the world around her. Atticus Finch, Scout’s father, is a complex character who is respected in the community for his honesty and integrity. The novel also explores the character of Boo Radley, who is misunderstood by the community but is ultimately shown to be kind-hearted. The characters in the novel are relatable, and their stories stay with the reader long after the novel has ended.

“To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee is a timeless classic that has impacted many readers around the world. The novel explores themes of racial injustice, morality, and the loss of innocence, and the characters are complex and well-developed. The story teaches valuable lessons about right and wrong, and the importance of empathy and understanding. For me, “To Kill a Mockingbird” is more than just a book; it is a reminder of the need to stand up for what is right, and to treat everyone with respect and dignity.

My Favourite Book Essay Example #2

Reading has always been one of my favorite pastimes, and throughout the years, I have read countless books that have captured my heart and imagination. However, out of all the books I have read, one stands out as my absolute favorite – and that is “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee. This book is a timeless classic that has touched the hearts of many, including myself. In this essay, I will be discussing the plot, the characters, and the themes explored in “To Kill a Mockingbird.”

The plot of “To Kill a Mockingbird” is centered around the life of a young girl named Scout Finch and her family, who live in the small town of Maycomb, Alabama, during the 1930s. The main conflict of the story arises when Scout’s father, Atticus Finch, a lawyer, is appointed to defend Tom Robinson, a black man who is falsely accused of raping a white woman. Throughout the book, we see how Atticus, Scout, and her brother Jem navigate the racial tensions in their town, and how they fight against the prejudices of their neighbors. The resolution of the story is both heart-warming and heart-wrenching, as we see the consequences of the trial and the impact it has on the Finch family.

The characters in “To Kill a Mockingbird” are some of the most memorable and well-developed characters in all of literature. Scout, the protagonist, is a young girl who is both curious and innocent, and her growth throughout the story is both inspiring and relatable. Jem, her older brother, is a caring and protective sibling who is forced to confront the harsh realities of the world around him. And of course, Atticus Finch, the wise and compassionate lawyer who serves as a moral compass for the entire town. Each character in the book is unique and multi-dimensional, and their interactions with each other create a rich and complex narrative.

The themes explored in “To Kill a Mockingbird” are numerous and thought-provoking. One of the main themes is the exploration of racial inequality and prejudice in the American South during the 1930s. Through the lens of Scout and her family, we see the devastating effects of racism on both the black and white communities in Maycomb. Another important theme is the idea of personal growth and empathy. Throughout the story, we see how Scout and Jem learn to understand and appreciate the perspectives of others, and how their experiences shape their understanding of the world.

In conclusion, “To Kill a Mockingbird” is a book that has stood the test of time and continues to be relevant today. Its powerful themes and memorable characters have captured the hearts and minds of readers for generations, and it remains one of the most influential books in American literature. For me, it is not just a favorite book, but a book that has shaped my understanding of the world and inspired me to be a better person.

My Favourite Book Essay Example #3

Books have always been an integral part of my life. They are a source of knowledge, entertainment, and inspiration. Among the numerous books that I have read, one stands out as my favorite, and that is “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee. Published in 1960, this novel has become a classic of modern American literature. It explores themes of racism, justice, and morality through the eyes of a young girl named Scout. In this essay, I will explain why this book is my favorite and why I recommend it to others.

“To Kill a Mockingbird” is my favorite book because of its powerful message against racism. The novel is set in the deep south of America in the 1930s, a time when racial discrimination was rampant. The story follows the life of Scout, a young girl growing up in a small town. Her father, Atticus Finch, is a lawyer who defends a black man accused of raping a white woman. The trial is a symbol of the deep-rooted racism in society and highlights the injustice that African Americans faced at the time. Through Scout’s innocent eyes, we see the reality of racism and its damaging effects on individuals and society as a whole.

Another reason why “To Kill a Mockingbird” is my favorite book is the well-developed characters. Each character is unique and has their own story to tell. Scout, the protagonist, is a feisty young girl who questions the world around her. Her brother Jem is a caring and protective sibling, while Atticus is a wise and compassionate father. The novel also features Boo Radley, a recluse who is misunderstood by the townspeople, and Tom Robinson, the black man who is wrongly accused of a crime he did not commit. The characters are so well-written that they come to life on the pages of the book, making the story both engaging and memorable.

Lastly, “To Kill a Mockingbird” is my favorite book because of its thought-provoking themes of morality and justice. The novel raises important questions about what is right and wrong, and how we should treat others. Atticus Finch’s character embodies the ideals of justice and fairness, and his words of wisdom have inspired many readers. The book also challenges the reader’s beliefs and values, making us reflect on our own attitudes towards race, prejudice, and discrimination.

In conclusion, “To Kill a Mockingbird” is a timeless classic that has touched the hearts of many readers. Its themes of racism, justice, and morality are still relevant today, and the characters are unforgettable. This book is a must-read for anyone who wants to understand the complexities of the human experience and the importance of empathy and compassion. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves literature and wants to be inspired by a great story.

What Margaret Atwood Taught Me About Writing Outside Your Genre

What Margaret Atwood Taught Me About Writing Outside Your Genre

Before the television premiere of The Handmaid's Tale , Margaret Atwood wrote an essay titled "Margaret Atwood on What The Handmaid's Tale Means in the Age of Trump" .

In it, she talked about stretching herself outside her genre when she wrote The Handmaid's Tale :

  • "It seemed to me a risky venture. I’d read extensively in science fiction, speculative fiction, utopias and dystopias ever since my high school years in the 1950s, but I’d never written such a book. Was I up to it? The form was strewn with pitfalls, among them a tendency to sermonize, a veering into allegory and a lack of plausibility. If I was to create an imaginary garden I wanted the toads in it to be real."

Learn more about how Atwood stepped outside of her genre in this article.

Essay on My Favorite Author

From the heat and dust of Latin America, poverty-stricken and often violent, Gabriel Garcia Marquez combined past accounts and irrational beliefs, the genuine and the dreamlike to make a world as extraordinary and alluring as a South-American carnival. He grew up in a Columbian town known as Aracataca, a lonely kid who put up at his grandparents’ home. That upbringing framed the reason for his most well-known novel, 100 years of solitude. A famous global newspaper once termed the book as “the principle bit of literature ever since the writing of the books of the bible that ought to be perused by the whole of mankind.” Gabriel Garcia Marquez once opined that “growing old has never stopped anyone from seeking their dreams, rather growing old results from stopping to seek one’s dreams.” The novelist’s literature command has motivated millions globally, but unfortunately, he passed away on 17 th  April 2014, aged 87. The book, a 100 years of solitude is viewed as the most well-known and compelling art of fiction of a Spanish nature from the time when Miguel de Cervantes put out Don Quixote in the mid-17 th  century (Ortega, 2014).

The Columbian novelist, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, attributed with acquainting global literary works to a type of writing known as magic realism, was initially a journalist. Gabriel Garcia books depended on genuine encounters, as he later revealed. He believed that this was additionally extraordinary and strange than what his imaginations were. His most famous novel, a 100 years of solitude was converted into in excess of 30 dialects. It is played out in an imaginary township called Macondo, which is in tandem with the birthplace of Garcia Marquez, Aracataca. Aracataca was once an unknown town that has now become synonymous with the best-selling author (Pelayo et al., 2001). Garcia Marquez’s novels and short stories which mix the fabulous and the genuine in a manner that enlivened the personality and the struggles of South Americans made him the recipient of literature’s Nobel Prize in 1982.

Garcia Marquez wrote a book, 100 years of solitude that became his continent’s bible. Numerous people in South America have memorized entire chapters and can recite them as a tribute to the imagination that Marquez brought along. One hundred years of solitude is a book that feels infinite, and everything fits into it. It is a book also that feels perfect, in that it does not have a single comma that is extra, a line that is missing and it seems to have been written even before the world was created, and Garcia Marquez was a sheer “secretary”, who downloaded or gave it to the rest of the world. The book put the continent of South America on the world map with its 450 million population since, before the existence of the book, Latin America was considered primitive.

Sentiments by other literary giants are that Garcia Marquez deserves a place in the pantheon of literary greats. This is because one would have to go way back many centuries ago to encounter a novelist of that pedigree who had such extraordinary influence on many populations. One hundred years of solitude had vast sums of sale all over the world, i.e. 50 million copies. The average novel might sell 3000 copies in comparison. This was a quality novel aside from being an intellectual novel, and yet it was a novel full of emotions, feeling and human life. The combining of political crusade, intelligent questions and social stories is an incredible feat that most authors can never manage and he pulled it off. He was a pioneer in magic realism, and it is the sentiment of other literary novelists that he is the most celebrated novelist of the 20 th  century and deserves a place in the pantheon of greats (Cavallaro, 2005).

Gabriel Garcia Marquez never claimed to be the originator of magic realism, but he certainly elevated it to another level. He was brought up by his grandparents, and his grandmother was a woman who taught him about ghosts, everyday fantasies and everyday magic and told him stories and superstitions. And that while he was growing up was a significant influence over him. This was a way of articulating critical political concerns without stating them overtly as Macondo suffers from insomnia in 100 years of solitude novel (Wood, 1990). He was incredibly influential over authors in Latin America and generally authors across the world since he was incredibly readable, i.e. his books were captivating.

El-Gabo, as he was called, was also a politics enthusiast. He saw himself as a dedicated liberal and a dear companion of Fidel Castro, who was Cuba’s socialist chief. While he was one of the defenders of the revolution in Cuba, he frequently mediated to acquire the freedom of detainees, especially intellectuals. Garcia Marquez insisted that he was a journalist above all. This was made apparent by the support extended towards a Cuban film school, and in Columbia, he sponsored the new journalism school to promote alternative forms of mass communication. Towards his demise, Marquez seldom went out. Marquez’s age which was advanced and frail well-being, kept him from what he loved best. Gabriel Garcia Marquez will nevertheless be remembered for long not only for his association with magic realism pioneering, but also for fuelling fascination of literature from his continent that will long outlive him. This is the reason why this paper chose Garcia Marquez as its author of focus. Garcia Marquez’s popularity both with mass audiences and academic audiences may rise and fall over time. Still, nothing will change the fact that he took literary works from over 30 nations and using a single novel, i.e. a 100 years of solitude, transformed the globe. When Marquez died, the government in tribute to his memory decreed three days of national mourning and ordered public organizations to raise the national flag at half-pole.

My Favourite Author – Rabindranath Tagore

My Favourite Author – Rabindranath Tagore

My Favourite Author

Of all the great men who were born in the 19th and 20th centuries, Rabindranath Tagore is the most famous them. He is known as a world poet. He was born at Jorasanko in Kolkata on the 7th of May 1861 in the famous Tagore family. He is not only eminent in the Indo Pak sub-continent but also in the whole world. I am really proud of him. To speak the truth, his writings have enriched the field of Bengali literature in a variety of ways. He was also an educationalist, a social reformer, a musician and a religious preacher. His name will continue to shine in the annals of history.

Actually, he was the voice of this subcontinent. Many of his writings have been translated into different languages. He was a versatile genius. Consequently, the civilized world came in touch with Bengali literature and culture. He wrote poems, novels, short stories, dramas essays, etc. He was honored with ‘knighthood’ in 1914 by the then British Government. But as a patriot, he disowned the same in protest of the atrocious massacre of Jalianwala Bagh at Punjab.

His early life was an interesting one. He had no regular school education. But his education was not neglected. Tagore’s father was a landlord and a social reformer. From his very boyhood, he began to write poems of great merit and charm. He was the youngest son of Maharishi Davendra Nath and grandson of prince Dwarka Nath Tagore. Under the personal care of his father Debendranath Tagore, he gained a deep knowledge of Bengali, Sanskrit, and English by the different private tutors. A few years later, he was sent to England. He spent a few months with Prof. Henry Morley at the University of London studying English literature. In a short time, he returned home.

His novels have brought about a great change in Bengali literature. From the very early stage of his life, he began to compose poems. When he was a boy of fifteen, he wrote the first novel named Banaphool. Indeed, he was a man of uncommon literary achievement and versatile genius. That is, he was a poet, a dramatist, a story writer, a novelist, a critic, and an essayist. Some of his best poems. are found in the ‘Gitanjali’, ‘Sonar Tari’, ‘Kheya’, ‘Kalpana’, ‘Balaka’ etc. For this ‘Gitanjali’ he got the ‘Nobel Prize,’ in literature in 1913. His novels and plays are of high quality. Naukadubi, Ghare Baire, Shesher Kabita, Jogajog, Chaturanga, etc. are his famous novels. His songs are now very popular in our country. He also wrote a number of dramas such as Chira Kumar Sabha, Rakta Karabi, Raja-O-Rani, Bisarjon, etc. He was a great educationist. He wrote many short stories too. He established a school at Shantiniketan and afterward founded the University of Viswa Bharati. His best works have been translated into too many foreign languages.

In short, he was such a great writer as is born in a country only once in many centuries. I admire him because he was a great poet as well as a great thinker of international repute. He will be remembered from generation to generation for his Bengali literary activities. He died on the 7th of August in 1941 and his death anniversary was full of glory and honor.

Essay on My Favourite Book in English for Children and Students

Essay About My Favourite Book

Reading my favourite book is like a magical journey into a world of exciting places and wonderful characters. I love my favourite book because it taught me the importance of friendship, adventures in life and some important life lessons. The protagonist in the story of my favourite book discovers special abilities while embarking on his journey of self-discovery. I aspire to do the same in my life. The story had lots of twists and turns and the protagonist had to show resilience and courage to sail through. I learnt about courage, loyalty, and friendship from this main character.

After reading my favourite book, my life changed a lot. I started seeing the world with a sense of wonder, and it influenced how I made my life choices. I became wiser at making important decisions in my everyday life. My favourite book and its main character served as an inspiration for me and turned me into someone who is now more open to welcoming life’s challenges and adventures.

My Favourite Book Essay in English for Class 10:

My favourite book is ‘Malgudi Days’ by R. K. Narayan. This literal masterpiece exhibits the simplistic rural life in India. Through the course of the 32 stories, it captures the essence of small-town life, where the ordinary becomes extraordinary through Narayan's keen observations. I find it wonderful that the stories, set against the backdrop of a fictional South Indian town, delve into the lives of its diverse inhabitants, showcasing the beauty found in the mundane.

The book iterates universal themes and is an absolute delight to read. It is like a reservoir of valuable life wisdom. The culture of India exhibited through the stories, and the complex characters with their mundane lives make this book worth reading. As I navigate through its stories, the beauty inherent in ordinary everyday life resonates with me deeply. The author, R. K. Narayan is adept at storytelling and emphasizes the profound lessons that could be learnt through the various characters of the story. The life’s intricacies are depicted through the rural lens and the diverse stories with different characters make it my all-time favourite book to read. Each time, when I want to get lost in the nuances of these beautiful fictional characters, the old societal dynamics, human relationships etc. I read this book.

In the present modern world, which is rapidly changing, my favourite book, ‘Malgudi Days’ serves as a poignant reminder of enduring human experiences which is the result of the simplistic life led by the characters. I believe his book will keep on resonating with its readers across generations. As modern society grapples with the challenges of complex lifestyles and fast-paced living, the narratives in ‘Malgudi Days’ encourage a pause to reflect on the significance of human connections, the value of simplicity, and the importance of embracing the ordinary joys of life.

My Favourite Book Essay Harry Potter:

My all-time favourite book to read is ‘Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone’ by J. K. Rowling. This book is considered one of the classics and captivates readers from all age groups around the globe. When I first read this enchanting book, I was lost in the intricate magical world of Hogwarts. The book stirs up my imagination and becomes like a timeless gateway into a world of wonder. I also love J. K. Rowling’s distinctive writing style. She weaves the themes of friendship, courage, and the battle between good and evil so effortlessly. My favourite character from the novel is ‘Harry Potter’ who is also the protagonist of the story. Whenever I sit alone to read this book, the transformative journey of Harry Potter gives me false hope of some magical world. I get completely absorbed in the world of wizards and magical creatures. In my opinion, the author has artistically fabricated the world of magic where everything is possible through the means of magical spells.

One of the most prominent themes that runs throughout the course of the book is the theme of friendship. I enjoyed reading about the friendship which is exhibited between Harry, Ron, and Hermione. These three characters share a genuine friendship and the importance of forming genuine connections is emphasized by the author. It is through means of genuine bonds, that we can hope to overcome difficulties in life.

There are several other themes which are highlighted in my favourite book. The theme of courage which is exhibited by my favourite character, ‘Harry’ instils confidence in my mind as well. When Harry fights the three-headed dog to save his friends. I learnt how controlling fear can help us triumph over anything. The book also teaches us that good always wins over evil. The protagonist Harry also has a face-to-face incident with Lord Voldemort who is projected as the lord of darkness and evil. The book traces the complexities of morality and also reiterates the fact that humans always stand on the winning side if they are able to make the right choices and decisions. I often related to this theme mentioned in the book strongly as I get reminded of how worthy it is to have a strong, resilient mind to make the right choices for oneself in everyday life. There is an intricate description of magical landscapes in my favourite book of Harry Potter. The author has elaborated on the rich details of Hogwarts Castle, Diagon Alley and the Forbidden Forest. The humour, mystery, wonder and suspense created throughout the book is enough to captivate the minds of the readers. The witty dialogues and clever wordplay contribute to the overall enjoyment of the book. Whenever I read this book, I instantly get engaged in the unfolding plot even though I have read this book many times. The charm and wit of the main characters can entertain the reader over and over again.

I love reading this book because it has taught me to love magic within the ordinary and to never stop believing in the extraordinary. In my opinion, the book, ‘Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone’ should be read by people who are deeply interested in learning core human values through the means of a magical world and its fictional characters.

My Favorite Author

I have read the writings of many writers but I like the writings of Rabindranath Tagore the most. He had a deep insight into human nature. He left his soul behind in the form of his works. He wrote a number of novels, plays, short stories and poems. All his writing advocate the Indian culture in all aspects. He won the Nobel  prize for his collection of poems, the “Gijanjali”. It made his famous throughout the world. His poems are full of beauty of nature, love of God and children. His song “Jan-Gan-Man” is our National Anthem. His novels “Gora” and “Wreck” are very famous. His short stories deal with touching human experiences. One cannot forget his stories like “The Human Coming”, “Cabuliwala”, “Subha” and “The Postmaster”. Tagore was a successful write in every field of writing. He is beyond appreciation, beyond comparison. He was a versatile genius. His best works have been translated in too many foreign languages. He was a symbol of the true culture of this country. His name will continue to shine in the annals of history. In short, he was such a great writer as is born in a country only once in many centuries. Such writers prove to be beacon light to the reading public.

500+ Words Essay on My Favourite Book

Essay on My Favourite Book: Books are friends who never leave your side. I find this saying to be very true as books have always been there for me. I enjoy reading books . They have the power to help us travel through worlds without moving from our places. In addition, books also enhance our imagination. Growing up, my parents and teachers always encouraged me to read. They taught me the importance of reading. Subsequently, I have read several books. However, one boom that will always be my favourite is Harry Potter. It is one of the most intriguing reads of my life. I have read all the books of this series, yet I read them again as I never get bored of it.

essay on my favourite book

Harry Potter Series

Harry Potter was a series of books authored by one of the most eminent writers of our generation, J.K. Rowling. These books showcase the wizarding world and its workings. J.K. Rowling has been so successful at weaving a picture of this world, that it feels real. Although the series contains seven books, I have a particular favourite. My favourite book from the series is The Goblet of fire.

When I started reading the book, it caught my attention instantly. Even though I had read all the previous parts, none of the books caught my attention as this one did. It gave a larger perspective into the wizarding world. One of the things which excite me the most about this book is the introduction of the other wizard schools. The concept of the Tri-wizard tournament is one of the most brilliant pieces I have come across in the Harry Potter series.

In addition, this book also contains some of my favourite characters. The moment I read about Victor Krum’s entry, I was star struck. The aura and personality of that character described by Rowling are simply brilliant. Further, it made me become a greater fan of the series.

What Harry Potter Series Taught Me?

Even though the books are about the world of wizards and magic, the Harry Potter series contains a lot of lessons for young people to learn. Firstly, it teaches us the importance of friendship. I have read many books but never come across a friendship like that of Harry, Hermoine, and Ron. These three musketeers stuck together throughout the books and never gave up. It taught me the value of a good friend.

Further, the series of Harry Potter taught me that no one is perfect. Everyone has good and evil inside them. We are the ones who choose what we wish to be. This helped me in making better choices and becoming a better human being. We see how the most flawed characters like Snape had goodness inside them. Similarly, how the nicest ones like Dumbledore had some bad traits. This changed my perspective towards people and made me more considerate.

essay on my favourite author

Finally, these books gave me hope. They taught me the meaning of hope and how there is light at the end of the tunnel. It gave me the strength to cling on to hope in the most desperate times just like Harry did all his life. These are some of the most essential things I learned from Harry Potter.

In conclusion, while there were many movies made in the books. Nothing beats the essence and originality of the books. The details and inclusiveness of books cannot be replaced by any form of media. Therefore, the Goblet of Fire remains to be my favourite book.

Essay – 1 (300 words).

“RK Narayan”

R. Of. Narayan is my favorite among Indian prose writers. He was the only novelist who used to write his novels in English during his time. The art of crafting his story was incomparable. The way they used to get into the minds of people through their characters, it is difficult to find them anywhere else.

Early life and work

Narayan ji was born in a small village of Madras in 1906 AD in a Hindu Brahmin family. His full name was Rashipuram Krishnaswamy Iyer Narayanaswamy. He was very interested in reading since childhood. You were more inclined towards English literature. For early education, he was sent to Lutheran Missionary School, where Narayan was discriminated against because the rest of the children were Christians. Which had a profound effect on him.

He started his career as a teacher. Soon he also started writing. R. Of. Narayan’s serial used to come in the name of ‘Malgudi Days’ which I loved very much in my childhood.

great novelist

All his novels are very good. I really like his ‘Swami and Friends’ among them all. Reading this, it seems as if all the characters are around us. ‘The Dark Room’, ‘The Vendor of Sweets’, ‘Malgudi Days’, ‘The English Teacher’, ‘Mr Sampath’, ‘A Horse and the Goat’, ‘The World of Nagraj’, ‘Grandmother’s Tale’, ‘ ‘Under the Banyan Tree’ etc. are some of his great works which made him stand in the foremost category of litterateurs.

R. Of. Narayan was a writer of high order. All his works are related to the soil of India. All his characters revolve around the Indian public. That’s why it looks like you. A brand new storyline used to add four moons to his novel. He had a wonderful imagination. He was also awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1958 for his work. This series did not stop here. “Munshi Premchand”

I like Munshi Premchand the most among Hindi litterateurs. His heart-touching creations can compel anyone to acknowledge his talent. Whatever his pen touched, he turned it into gold. His hold on every genre was more than one.

Premchand was born in 1880 AD at a place called Lamhi in Varanasi. Premchand ji’s early life was spent in great trouble. At the age of seven, his mother passed away, and at the age of fourteen, his father also left this world. Premchand was married off at the young age of 15, as was the case in those days. But this marriage was not successful. Supporting widow remarriage in 1906, he married a child widow Shivarani. His own life is also very inspiring.

Initially he used to write under the name of Nawabrai, but in 1910 his works were confiscated and the then collector of Hamirpur warned him for his composition ‘Soje-Watan’ (The Lament of the Nation) that he would not write further, If you write, you will be jailed.

Till now he used to write in Urdu, on the advice of a friend he changed his name to Premchand. And now he started writing in the name of Premchand.

He fell seriously ill in the last moments of his life and died in 1936. His last composition ‘Mangalsutra’ was left unfinished, which was later completed by his son Amritarai.

Premchand’s works

This Little Girl's Essay On 'My Favourite Person' Is A Powerful Reminder Of Self-Love

W hile it has become common to see adults go through periods of low confidence, instances of kids suffering from a lack of confidence or low self-esteem also seem to be on the rise. While such cases are enough to make parents concerned, a little kid’s enthusiastic essay on her favourite person is just the perfect thing to go through. A woman recently shared her daughter’s essay on “My Favourite Person” which shows the little girl celebrating no one but herself.

The user on X began by mentioning that she hoped to read about herself in her daughter’s essay but was satisfied after she picked something better. “The prompt was to write about your favourite person. And my daughter picked herself. (I was secretly hoping she would pick me and was prepared to be jealous of anyone else she picked but this is better than I imagined),” she wrote.

Further, she shared a picture of her daughter’s essay, which was a page filled with self-appreciation and quite a lot of confidence. “I like myself because I was a very good anchor in sports day. I like myself because I am independent. I like to shout a lot. I like to draw. I am very very impatient. I cannot wait in the bus. I want to reach school in a second,” a part of the essay read.

The personal touch of “ooh and aaah” from the little kid’s expression as she finds the history of dinosaurs just makes the essay more interesting.

Take a look:

Social media users also left no stone unturned to praise the girl and her confidence level. A user wrote, “To quote her, it is most interesting. What a confident child!”, while another commented, “I like to shout a lot … I am very impatient”!! Me too.”

“I LOVE her!!! This is so aliiiiiiiiiveeeeeee and heartful,” a comment read. Another one mentioned, “I ooh and aah at dinosaurs history is the best way to describe the excitement one gets from learning new things. So Precious.”

A user also shared her own views and penned, “Love this!! Please preserve this and frame it, and give it to her on her 18th birthday or something 🙂 I hate to think of all of us women who started out as confident little girls with healthy self-esteems – until society stamps that out and replaces it with imposter syndrome.”

So far, the post has gained over 80,000 views and more than 2,000 likes.

The essay by the little girl has won the internet's heart. (Photo Credits: Instagram)
