I have read several books authored by Enid Blyton. While I loved reading all of them, my favourites among them are The Famous Five series, Secret Seven series, The Enchanted Wood and Adventures of the Wishing Chair Series.

I particularly love the Famous Five series. The series narrates the adventures of Anne, Julian, Georgina, Dick and their dog, Timmy. These young kids go to different adventurous places and explore crime scenes to solve complicated mysteries.

The stories are usually set in the backdrop of countryside where these kids go for camping and other adventure activities during their holidays. They find out about strange things happening in their surroundings and take on the mission to solve the mystery. The Famous Five series has 21 books and the story of each of these is intriguing and gripping.

I have read 15 of these. I cannot take my eyes of these books until I finish reading them. I have finished most of these novels in less than 3 days. My favourite books from the series are Five Go Adventuring Again and Five on a Treasure Island. This series became so popular that a TV series was made based on them.

Other Enid Blyton books that I enjoyed reading include Mr. Galliano’s Circus, Circus Days Again, The Happy House Children, The Children of Willow Farm, Six Cousins at Mistletoe Farm, Six Cousins Again, The Buttercup Farm Family, The Queen Elizabeth Family, The Seaside Family, and Naughty Amelia Jane.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, the third book introduces an interesting character, Sirius Black. He is an escaped prisoner. Potter and his friends try to find out who this person is and what he wants.

He was a pioneer in magic realism, and it is the sentiment of other literary novelists that he is the most celebrated novelist of the 20 th century and deserves a place in the pantheon of greats (Cavallaro, 2005).

Gabriel Garcia Marquez never claimed to be the originator of magic realism, but he certainly elevated it to another level. He was brought up by his grandparents, and his grandmother was a woman who taught him about ghosts, everyday fantasies and everyday magic and told him stories and superstitions. And that while he was growing up was a significant influence over him. This was a way of articulating critical political concerns without stating them overtly as Macondo suffers from insomnia in 100 years of solitude novel (Wood, 1990). He was incredibly influential over authors in Latin America and generally authors across the world since he was incredibly readable, i.e. his books were captivating.

El-Gabo, as he was called, was also a politics enthusiast. He saw himself as a dedicated liberal and a dear companion of Fidel Castro, who was Cuba’s socialist chief. While he was one of the defenders of the revolution in Cuba, he frequently mediated to acquire the freedom of detainees, especially intellectuals. Garcia Marquez insisted that he was a journalist above all. This was made apparent by the support extended towards a Cuban film school, and in Columbia, he sponsored the new journalism school to promote alternative forms of mass communication. Towards his demise, Marquez seldom went out. Marquez’s age which was advanced and frail well-being, kept him from what he loved best. Gabriel Garcia Marquez will nevertheless be remembered for long not only for his association with magic realism pioneering, but also for fuelling fascination of literature from his continent that will long outlive him. Still, nothing will change the fact that he took literary works from over 30 nations and using a single novel, i.e. a 100 years of solitude, transformed the globe. When Marquez died, the government in tribute to his memory decreed three days of national mourning and ordered public organizations to raise the national flag at half-pole.

No matter how one starts out in life it is not always indicative of how they will end up. My favorite author Ruskin Bond seemed to have it all when he was born and as he grew into a young child.

His father taught English to the young princesses at Jamnagar palace for at least 6 years. Why his father left is not truly known but since it was the start of the second world war and India was still under the control of Britain, the country entered the war and needed able-bodied men to fight.

From that good beginning came a little tragedy. When Ruskin was 8 years old his mother left his father and married another man. At first, this did not bother Ruskin as he was close to his father.

What may have helped his adjustment to his new life was his interest in writing. He seemed to be a good writer as he won several writing competitions then wrote his first short story when he was 16years old.

That foundation is probably the greatest strength in Mr. Ruskin. He knew what he liked and wanted to do early in his life and he pursued it with a passion. Even when the going got tough, publishing his first novel in England, he did not give up on his goal and strove to become a successful writer.

That persistence probably says more about the man than his own published works, even the ones that dealt directly with his life. He would take the hardship to endure the rejection just to make it to the top and see his work read by others.

I guess another aspect that makes him my favorite writer is that he never divorces himself from his own experiences. That makes his books more realistic and interesting to read.

Then when his A flight of the Pigeons was made into a movie, it helped bring the Indian rebellion alive for all of us who could not be there to experience what it must be like living in such conditions and pushed till you either break or rebel.

It is hard to find a writer who can capture the actual moments especially when they are not born during or prior to that time. Yet Mr. Bond was able to do that and that ability helps him to stand out from all the other authors who try their best to write the best novels they can.

One could draw a lot of motivation and inspiration from Mr.Bond., His 50-year literary career is filled with over 500 short stories, essays and a lot more. Given his adult work, it does seem surprising that he would start to enter the world of writing for children.

Yet Mr. Bond reinvented himself, again setting an inspirational example, and became a children’s book writer. So far, he has published about 50 books for little children to read. It is doubtful that he will stop anytime soon.

That conclusion is drawn from his own words when he said that he would have written even if he was not published at any time in his life. He loved writing a lot and that is another characteristic that helps Mr. Bond standout.

His love for his craft put a special influence on his work that makes it so attractive to read. You can manufacture that attitude, it has to be real and when it is real it truly shows in the pages of his work.

Writing may also fill a void for Mr. Banks as his family is either long past on or living far away from where he lives. That may be the sad overture to his life and accomplishments. Although he has an adopted family he is basically alone.

The final inspiration act he gives to all is that even at his current age he is still writing. He never stops and nor should we.

My Favorite Author: Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

There are so many authors whom I like. But my favorite author is Sir Arther Conan Doyle. It was he who wrote the world famous Sherlock Holmes detective stories.

Sir Arther Conan Doyle was born on 22nd May 1859. He was born in England. He received his education at Stony – Hurst College. He joined Edinburgh University and passed out as a doctor. While at the University he was an eminent detective. Through Dr. Bell, he achieved the knowledge in the art of detection.

Very soon Doyle becomes an inventor of detective stories. His greatest invention was Sherlock Holmes, the master detective of all times. Doyle published his first novel in 1918. It was named “Study of Scarlet” His second novel “Mica Clark” made him a master novelist. But Doyle never gave up his profession as a doctor.

He served as a doctor in the Boir War. Therefore the British government presented him a knighthood. Thereafter he was known as Sir Arther Conan Doyle. This great man died on July 07th 1930.

I have read the writings of many writers but I like the writings of Rabindranath Tagore the most. He had a deep insight into human nature. He left his soul behind in the form of his works. He wrote a number of novels, plays, short stories and poems. All his writing advocate the Indian culture in all aspects. He won the Nobel prize for his collection of poems, the “Gijanjali”. It made his famous throughout the world. His poems are full of beauty of nature, love of God and children. His song “Jan-Gan-Man” is our National Anthem. His novels “Gora” and “Wreck” are very famous. His short stories deal with touching human experiences. One cannot forget his stories like “The Human Coming”, “Cabuliwala”, “Subha” and “The Postmaster”. Tagore was a successful write in every field of writing. He is beyond appreciation, beyond comparison. He was a versatile genius. His best works have been translated in too many foreign languages. He was a symbol of the true culture of this country. His name will continue to shine in the annals of history. In short, he was such a great writer as is born in a country only once in many centuries. Such writers prove to be beacon light to the reading public.

Essay On My Favourite Author – Of all the great men who were born in the 19th and 20th centuries, Rabindranath Tagore is the most famous them. He was born at Jorasanko in Kolkata on the 7th May 1861 in the famous Tagore family. He is not only eminent in the Indo Pak sub-continent but also in the whole world. I am really proud of him. To speak the truth, his writings have enriched the field of Bengali literature in a variety of ways.

Many of his writings have been translated into different languages. Consequently, the civilized world came in touch with Bengali literature and culture. He was honored with ‘knighthood’ in 1914 by the then British Government. But as a patriot, he disowned the same in protest of the atrocious massacre of Jalianwala Bagh at Punjab.

His early life was an interesting one. He had no regular school education. But his education was not neglected. From his very boyhood, he began to write poems of great merit and charm. Under the personal care of his father Debendranath Tagore, he gained a deep knowledge of Bengali, Sanskrit, and English by the different private tutors. A few years later, he was sent to England. He spent a few months with Prof. Henry Morley at the University of London studying English literature. In a short time, he returned home.

From the very early stage of his life, he began to compose poems. When he was a boy of fifteen, he wrote the first novel named Banaphool. Indeed, he was a man of uncommon literary achievement and versatile genius. That is, he was a poet, a dramatist, a story writer, a novelist, a critic, and an essayist. Some of his best poems. are found in the ‘Gitanjali’, ‘Sonar Tari’, ‘Kheya’, ‘Kalpana’, ‘Balaka’ etc. For this ‘Gitanjali’ he got the ‘Nobel Prize,’ in literature in 1913. His novels and plays are of high quality. His songs are now very popular in our country. He was a great educationist. He established a school at Shantiniketan and afterward founded the University of Viswa Bharati.

I admire him because he was a great poet as well as a great thinker of international repute. He will be remembered from generation to generation for his Bengali literary activities. He died on the 7th of August in 1941 and his death anniversary was full of glory and honor.

Favourite Author Essay-2

My favorite author is Rabindranath Thakur. Though he was originally and mainly a poet, he is unquestionably one of the best authors of fiction and articles of Bangla literature. It may be argued that as far as the author Rabindranath is concerned, there are others who deserve a priority in being ranked. I like reasoning more than arguing. And since I am talking of my own perception, I must doubtlessly aver that he is the most favorite author to me. Later on, however, I shall make a clean breast of why he is the most favourite author to me.

Rabindranath was born on May 7, 1861, to the then famous Thakur family of Jorashako, Calcutta. His father Sir Debendranath Thakur and grandfather Prince Darokanath Thakur were very well-known and important figures in the whole sub-continent at that time. Needless to say, more than a dozen members of that great Thakur family were all famous and successful people in literature, arts, philosophy, social work and reform and so on. They were a family of genius indeed.

Surprisingly enough, Rabindranath had no inclination to academic education. As a result, never in his life had he been able to continue his studies at any specific educational institution, and he had acquired no academic certificates in his life. He was even sent to London to study law at Cambridge, but this initiative of his guardians was in vain. Yet he broke the record of the literature of the whole world.

Rabindranath started thinking poetically from his early childhood. When he was only twelve, he published his first book titled “Prithiraj Parajoy.” His first book of poetry “Banaful” was composed only when he was thirteen. From then on he went on writing and writing till his death.

Rabindranath was a multi-faceted genius. There is no branch of literature to which he did not contribute. He easily and triumphantly roamed about in the realm of literature and enriched, and in some cases created, many branches of it. From the womb of his golden pen were born numerous poems, songs, plays, novels, articles, essays, treatise etc. He invented some genres of dances as well. He was an outstanding reciter of poems. He was a good performer too.

It is dazzlingly surprising that he wrote so many books of poetry, novel, short story, prose etc that an endeavor to mention them here will increase the volume of this essay horrendously.

I have very clear explanations why Rabindranath is my most favourite author. He was a man who looked into life with a keen eye. Life unveiled its abstruse mysteries to him. He observed life both from near and afar. He puffed new senses and life and beauty into words, infused poetic perceptions with the tranquility of virtue. He gave poetry and essays the character and personality of epic. Whatever came forth through his pens was enchanting and soothing. His diction of writing prose is very attractive and, to be sure, completely inimitable.

Some hold the view that Rabindranath was an imperfect writer as he was indifferent about the life-struggle of the middle and lower-class people. But, in fact, a man who has the eyes keen enough and the mind mature enough will hardly dare make such audacious and stupid comments. Actually, what he wanted to observe and portray in his writings are the deep feelings conflicts and mysteries of life, rather than the way people live. He wanted to discover the unseen link between man’s limited life and the eternal existence of the omnipresent entity. That is why it seems to me, he observed life from a different viewpoint rather than on the social structure that may and does, change over time. Consequently, his works will never cease to appeal his readers, no matter to whatever direction the society will change. He was above all classifications and stereotyping. He held the neutral view that the way man lives is not important; what is important to observe is how he perceives life. As a result, his works have escaped themselves from the narrow limits of time and space.

To be frank, I do not have the acumen and skill to analyze his talent. Only what I can do is identify my own self with his work and perception. But surprisingly enough, when I endeavor to do so, I am taken aback by the infinite strength of his mind. I plunge into the world of his literary works. To me, he is one of the most reverend and extraordinary men of the world.

Favourite Author Essay-3

Introduction: I have got a chance to read the writings and compositions of many authors/poets. All of them are not my liking or favourite authors/poets. In fact, my favourite author/poet needs no further introduction to the nations of the world. He was a writer, poet, author, song composer, singer, revolutionary person etc.

Birth and parentage: Kazi Nazrul Islam was my favourite author/poet. He was born at Churulia in the district of Burdwan. His parents were Kazi Fakir Ahmed and Zaheda Khatun. His parents lost four children before his birth. Then they named him Dhukhu Miah after his birth.

His early life: His early life was very peculiar. He was very parentless. He had to struggle hard against pauperism. He was admitted to a local primary school when he was ten years old. But his early life was full of wants and poverty.

School life: The hard and fast rule of school life was not liked by him. So he could not pay attention to his studies. After completing his minor school, and maktab education he taught the village children the Koran. Then he fled away from home and became a baker’s boy on a monthly salary of TK-1.00 (one) only. He also led an irregulated life.

His military life: When the World War began or broke out, he joined the war. In the army, he got the rank of Havildar. He composed songs in the army and became familiar as a poet.

His literary works: Nazrul Islam began his literary works at the beginning of his school life. During that period, he composed a number of poems. His songs inspired the people to fight for the country. He composed a poem entitled Birdhrohi against the Injustice, exploitation, and oppression of the British govt. The Regiment was banned. He returned to Kolkata. Then he edited the Dhumketu in which he published his revolutionary writings. The British Govt. sentenced him to jail for one year convicting him of this sort of writing. His best writings are Agni Beena, Bisher Banshi, Dolon Chanpa, Rikter Bedan, Bandhan Hara, Pralaya Shikha etc.

Why favourite to me?: He was very favorable to me for various reasons. His writings were full of hopes and aspirations, energy and juvenile spirit, love and affection, joys and sorrows. When the national life was under foreign rule, the national life was exploited ruthlessly. He began to write protesting against it. To the nation and the land, he gave the guidelines. He inculcated the idea he had into the mind of the common people. He encouraged the people who were under the soporific influence of slavery, He made them conscious of their legal rights. He encouraged them to fight for independence in order to break the bondage of slavery.

His nature: Nazrul Islam was very favourite to me for his excellent nature. He was very honest to the penny. He did not like to compromise with any injustice, ill-treatment, and oppression. He had a firm confidence in the supreme power of the Creator. He struggled for the country all through his lifetime event at the very end of his life.

His illness: Nazrul Islam was an example of many things. He never thought of his life and family. His family was not well-off for he had no sound family life. He did everything not for his family but for others. He had nothing to contribute to his family. He extended his hands towards his friends and well-wishers for help. Suddenly he fell ill so seriously that he lost his power of movement and speech. He remained as a bed-ridden patient for the last thirty years. He passed the days without creative activities.

His contribution: My favourite poet made a great contribution to our nation and literature as well. He has made our literature flourished in the world. The whole nation got inspired by his writings.

As a rebel poet: No other poet was as rebel as my favourite poet. His voice removed the nation’s fear in all respects to establish its legal claim in the form of the world’s conscience.

Death: He breathed his last on the 29th of August in 1976.

Conclusion: My favourite author is no more. But he will remain ever fresh in my memory forever. His song and gojhals are now very popular in our country. So, I love him best.

Essay on My Favourite Book: Books are friends who never leave your side. I find this saying to be very true as books have always been there for me. I enjoy reading books . They have the power to help us travel through worlds without moving from our places. In addition, books also enhance our imagination. Growing up, my parents and teachers always encouraged me to read. They taught me the importance of reading. Subsequently, I have read several books. However, one boom that will always be my favourite is Harry Potter. It is one of the most intriguing reads of my life. I have read all the books of this series, yet I read them again as I never get bored of it.

Harry Potter Series

Harry Potter was a series of books authored by one of the most eminent writers of our generation, J.K. Rowling. These books showcase the wizarding world and its workings. J.K. Rowling has been so successful at weaving a picture of this world, that it feels real. Although the series contains seven books, I have a particular favourite. My favourite book from the series is The Goblet of fire.

When I started reading the book, it caught my attention instantly. Even though I had read all the previous parts, none of the books caught my attention as this one did. It gave a larger perspective into the wizarding world. One of the things which excite me the most about this book is the introduction of the other wizard schools. The concept of the Tri-wizard tournament is one of the most brilliant pieces I have come across in the Harry Potter series.

In addition, this book also contains some of my favourite characters. The moment I read about Victor Krum’s entry, I was star struck. The aura and personality of that character described by Rowling are simply brilliant. Further, it made me become a greater fan of the series.

What Harry Potter Series Taught Me?

Even though the books are about the world of wizards and magic, the Harry Potter series contains a lot of lessons for young people to learn. Firstly, it teaches us the importance of friendship. I have read many books but never come across a friendship like that of Harry, Hermoine, and Ron. These three musketeers stuck together throughout the books and never gave up. It taught me the value of a good friend.

Further, the series of Harry Potter taught me that no one is perfect. Everyone has good and evil inside them. We are the ones who choose what we wish to be. This helped me in making better choices and becoming a better human being. We see how the most flawed characters like Snape had goodness inside them. Similarly, how the nicest ones like Dumbledore had some bad traits. This changed my perspective towards people and made me more considerate.

Finally, these books gave me hope. They taught me the meaning of hope and how there is light at the end of the tunnel. It gave me the strength to cling on to hope in the most desperate times just like Harry did all his life. These are some of the most essential things I learned from Harry Potter.

In conclusion, while there were many movies made in the books. Nothing beats the essence and originality of the books. The details and inclusiveness of books cannot be replaced by any form of media. Therefore, the Goblet of Fire remains to be my favourite book.
