Am i required to live on campus.

All single students under 21 years of age who have earned fewer than 27 hours of transferable credit after high school graduation are required to live in University housing.

Vaccination records need to be sent to Magers Health and Wellness Center and can be emailed to [email protected] or faxed to 888-586-1348. 

We begin making housing assignments for incoming Spring 2024 students in the middle of Novemeber 2023 and incoming Fall 2024 students starting the end of April 2024 (and then every month until August 2024). You will be notified via email sent to your Missouri State email account. Assignment notices will be sent out each month as assignments are made. Housing assignments are made based on application complete date, Living-Learning Community preferences, building preferences, roommate preferences, and roommate matching questions.  

Before the Academic Year Begins:

If you wish to change your building or room assignment after we send you your assignment and roommate information, you can view other available spaces starting on May 1 @ 2pm through July 15 @ 11:59 pm via Change My Assignment:

Please note: at certain times of the year, the room change request process may be taken offline for administrative purposes. This process typically opens up around the 3rd week of each semester.

To have a preferred roommate: In order to access and find a desired roommate within the housing application, both parties must have fully completed housing applications on file. If you have a roommate preference listed: Make sure that you have invited your preferred roommate through the Preferred Roommate Selection feature of the application, and that your preferred roommate has accepted the request. We will make every attempt to assign you with your preferred roommate as space permits.  However, roommate matches cannot be guaranteed.  If you do not have a roommate preference: Are you looking for a roommate? Missouri State University has developed an algorithm of matching students with roommates, based on how you answered the roommate matching questions on your housing application. We have very few students, that we assign, who want to move.

When students are admitted they are invited to join the ZeeMee app. The social media platform offers a roommate finder chat that may be used by students looking for potential roommates.

Before Coming to Campus

Spring: Move-in for the Spring semester starts Saturday before classes at 8:00 a.m. Fall :  Move-in details for the Fall 2024 semester have yet to be determined. Summer : Move-in for Summer semester starts the Sunday before classes begin at 8:00 a.m.

Every student may have different needs, but our list of What to Bring is a good place to start. Reception desks have some items that residents may check out, such as vacuum cleaners, kitchen utensils, games, and recreational equipment. Don’t forget to consult your roommate to coordinate colors and check for duplicates! Be sure to have your BearPass card ready!

Each traditional residence hall living unit contains the following items:

• 80” extra-long, twin-size bed
• Apartments have either an extra-long, twin size bed or a full size bed
• Dresser drawer space
• Closet space
• Microwave and refrigerator

You may bring carpet or scatter rugs for the tile floors. Rooms in Sunvilla, Monroe and the Wells House suites are carpeted. Visit the homepage of each residence hall for more information including specific information, room dimensions and virtual tours.

No, only microwave ovens and refrigerators provided by Residence Life are allowed.

All students are highly encouraged to purchase renter’s insurance or to verify adequate coverage on their parent’s family insurance. The University cannot be held accountable for loss, damage or theft of any student’s personal property.

While On Campus

Free laundry facilities are located in each residence hall.  Students will need to provide their own detergent and softener. 

Hammons, Hutchens, Kentwood, Heitz House, Scholars, Monroe Apartments and Sunvilla Tower will remain open during Thanksgiving, Winter and Spring breaks during the academic year Blair-Shannon, Freddy, Wells, and Woods are closed for Thanksgiving , Winter and Spring breaks for the 2023-2024 academic year. If a student needs break housing , Residence Life offers limited on-campus housing in open buildings for a per/night fee.

Building closing dates and times:

Thanksgiving Break at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 18 and will reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 26, 2023. 

Winter Break at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 16 and will reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2024.

Spring Break at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2024 and will reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 17, 2024.

Once these buildings are closed, students will not be permitted to return to their rooms until buildings reopen. Therefore, students should take any personal belongings with them before leaving. Students who lived on campus for Fall 2023 will be returning to their same room for the Spring 2024 semester. They do not need to move all of their belongings from their room during winter break.

At the end of the Spring 2024 semester, all residents must be completely moved out by 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2024 .

This $12/semester fee per resident is distributed through RHA for the implementation of social, educational and hall enrichment programs and activities for every resident. Please visit the Residence Hall Association page for more information.

Campus maps , including the interactive Bear Line shuttle map, are available online and also in our MSU Mobile app.

Fully equipped, 24-hour computer labs are available in all of the residence halls and apartments. These computer labs provide up-to-date hardware and software technology, including Internet access, Microsoft Office 365, and laser printing at the front desk. Each resident in the residence halls and apartments has a dedicated Ethernet port and each residence hall and apartment provides Wi-Fi service.

ResNet refers to the residence hall network – the computer technology, resources and support provided in the residence halls. Should a student need assistance with connecting their computer to the network or have computer related problems throughout the year, there are ResCons (ResNet Consultants) available in the halls to assist in getting the problem resolved. Any resident with a computer-related questions should contact ResNet at 417-836-6100.

Every residence hall is completely wireless. Most academic facilities have wireless hotspots as well. Instructions for connecting to University access points are available online. 

It is suggested that a wired Ethernet connection be utilized before a Wi-Fi connection, if possible. For more information, please contact ResNet at 417-836-6100.

Residence Life currently does not have traditional coaxial cable hookups. Instead, we utilize a TV streaming service called Streeme TV . This service can stream live or recorded TV through a web browser, iOS or Android app, or Roku and Amazon Fire TV devices. Students also have free access to Max .

Missouri State University's Telecommunications office will provide local telephone service upon request. Students wishing to have local service may submit a request to Residence Life for installation. There will be a one-time charge of $100 and a monthly charge $25.*

You're Ready for Room Selection

Individual/non-group room selection:.

Your room selection time slot was sent to you in an email. At that time, or later, you can log into the housing portal and return to the Housing Information Form (HIF) process located along the right of the page under "Applications and Forms."

Once you have re-entered the HIF it will jump you to the "Roommate Search and Group Management" page.

If you are part of a roommate group, you should take this opportunity to check that your group is fully verified (all requests accepted).

If you are not part of a group, or if your group is fully verified, you can click "continue" on the bottom of the roommate page to continue on to the next page (the page titled "You're almost done!"). 

Any time after your assigned timeslot you can click "Continue" at the bottom of the "You're almost done!" page and it will take you through to the room selection process where you will choose a space for yourself, or for yourself and your roommate group (if applicable). 

If clicking "Continue" on this loops you back to the same page again, double check your timeslot. It may not yet be your time.

You will now be on a page titled "Initial Selection" where you will choose the building in which you would like to search for a room. Click "Select" under the building.

Now you are on the "Room List" page that lists each room with an available space. You can filter by room type, room number, or hall. 

Each room is listed by an abbreviated initialism of the hall name as well as the room number. Specifics regarding how to read each room number can be found at the top of this page. 

Each room selection lists its room type (i.e. "double", "single", "triple" etc.), floor, and cost. 

Once you have identified the room you would like to assign yourself to you will click "add to cart" under that room, and then "Save & Continue" at the bottom of the page.

• Once you add a room to your cart you will have 5 minutes to complete your selection.

On the next page, "assign beds", you will assign yourself to a specific bed within the room you have chosen by clicking the "select bed" drop down under your name and selecting a bed (there may be only one bed available depending on the room you chose).

This bed selection does not restrict you to a certain side of the room. You and your roommate can make that determination at move-in. 

Once you have made this bed selection you will then click "assign beds".

The next page is the "Confirmation" page. This is your final opportunity to double check your selection.

If you would like to change your selection, click "go back."

If you would like to complete your selection, click "save & continue."

You can then choose your meal plan (details in meal plan section below)

After meal plan selection you will land on a "Room Selection Summary" page and receive a confirmation email. Please read both carefully as there are important policy and cancelation deadline reminders.

Group Room Selection:

All members of a roommate group must be eligible for room selection for the whole group to be able to select a room.

This means that if a member of your group did not complete the HIF, sign up for A&R, and submit their enrollment fee by the February 16th deadline, then they will not be able to participate in this round of room selection. Your options in this scenario are:

To leave a group with an ineligible person and move forward to select a room for yourself during room selection.

To forgo this round of room selection and remain in your group for an assignment at a later date once all roommates in your group are eligible. 

Only one member of a verified roommate group will go in during room selection and assign the whole group to a space.

For this reason, you will want to make sure you are in close communication with the others in your roommate group prior to room selection so that you all know what type of hall/room you are looking for and know who will be logging in to make the assignment for the group.

• It is recommended that the person that goes in to assign the group is the person with the earliest timeslot. This person can assign the whole group to a space, even if the other group members have a later timeslot.

Any time at or after their assigned timeslot, the group designee can log into the housing portal and return to the Housing Information Form (HIF) process located along the right of the page under "Applications and Forms."

You should take this opportunity to check that your group is fully verified (all requests accepted) before proceeding. The following process will not allow you to assign a roommate that has not accepted your request. And you will not be able to go back and add them once you have selected a room. 

If your group is fully verified, you can click "Continue" on the bottom of the roommate page to continue on to the next page (the page titled "You're almost done!"). 

Any time after your assigned timeslot you can click "Continue" at the bottom of the "You're almost done!" page and it will take you through to the room selection process where you will choose a space for your roommate group.

Once you have identified the room/rooms you would like to assign your group to you will click "add to cart" under those rooms and then "Save & Continue" at the bottom of the page.

• Once you hit "Save & Continue" the system will warn you if you have not selected enough space for your group

On the next page, "assign beds", you will assign yourself to a specific bed within the room you have chosen by clicking the "select bed" drop down under your name and selecting a bed. On this same page under "My Roommates" will then repeat this assigning process for each person. 

The bed selection within a room does not restrict you to a certain side of the room. You and your roommate can make that determination at move-in.

• If you do not see anyone listed under "My Roommates" there may be an issue with your roommate group, and you should go back to the roommate group management page and double check. 

Once you have made all assignment selections you will then click "assign beds".

The next page is the "Confirmation" page. This is your final opportunity to double check your selections. It will list both your assignment and the assignments you have selected for your roommate group.

After meal plan selection you will land on a "Room Selection Summary" page and all members of the group will receive a confirmation email. Please read both carefully as there are important policy and cancelation deadline reminders.

On the page after you confirm your room selection you will have the opportunity to select a meal plan. Choose a meal plan from the drop-down selection and click "Save & Continue" at the bottom of the page. 

You will then land on a summary page and receive a confirmation email.

Meal plan selection for those that assigned as part of a roommate group:

After your assignment has been made by your group designee, you can log into the housing portal and return to the Housing Information Form (HIF) process located along the right of the page under "Applications and Forms."

Click through to progress through the process. Since you already have a room assignment the system will take you past the room selection process and take you to the meal plan selection page

Once on the meal plan selection page, choose a meal plan from the drop-down selection and click "Save & Continue" at the bottom of the page. 

• If you are concerned about choosing the best plan for you, do not worry too much regarding your specific meal plan selection. You will get the opportunity to change your meal plan prior to the start of the fall semester.

If i’m a freshman, am i required to live on-campus, what should i do if i don’t get along with my roommate(s).

Figuring out how to live with someone new can be tricky. If you encounter issues with your roommate(s), first seek guidance from one of the Resident Assistants (RA) or Resident Directors. They will work with you and your roommate(s) to first try and work through any problems using effective communication and negotiation.

However, if a situation is unmanageable, you can submit a room change request form from your   Lionet   account.

If you feel your situation is unsafe, contact an RA or Resident Director immediately.

WIll I BE ABLE TO CONTACT MY ROOMMATE(S) BEFORE CHECK-IN?

When can i expect my room assignment, how do i apply for housing.

Housing applications are available on   Lionet   under the Campus Housing header.

You need to first be admitted to complete an application. Select the application that best suits your needs, and then complete the required steps.

Please note you will have to put down a   $150   deposit   for your housing arrangements when you apply.

The housing application for incoming students for the fall semester will be available on  Lionet   the first weekday in the month of February. Students incoming for the spring semester will have access to the application by mid-September.

WHERE CAN I FIND THE RESIDENCE LIFE FORMS?

Can i bring my pet to campus, what if i don’t have a roommate request, when can i move in can i move in early, how does “co-ed” housing work.

Some of our housing arrangements are considered “co-ed.” This means that although the room assignments are gender-specific, men and women may be living next door to one another. Each gender-specific room has its own individual bathroom.

We do not allow cohabitation between men and women.

Opposite-gender guests are not allowed without your roommate’s approval.

If you are uncomfortable with co-ed housing, please select a gender-specific housing accommodation when you apply.

IS FAMILY/MARRIED-HOUSING AVAILABLE?

Unfortunately, we do not offer family- or married-housing.

If you need to live with your spouse or family, we suggest renting an apartment in town. There are many low-cost rental accommodations in Joplin.

WILL I BE ABLE TO ACCESS WI-FI IN MY ROOM?

All of our rooms have access to our Wi-Fi network.

The Wi-Fi services are included in your housing charges and will never cost you anything extra.

WILL I BE ABLE TO STAY IN MY DORM DURING HOLIDAYS, INTERSESSIONS AND SUMMER?

Yes, our residence halls are available to you year-round.

We do not charge anything for you to use the halls during Thanksgiving, Winter Intersession or Spring Break.

Intersession housing between the spring and summer and summer and fall is available to students with a housing application for the adjacent period.

I HAVE A DISABILITY. ARE THERE HOUSING ACCOMMODATIONS FOR ME?

Yes. In order to receive special accommodations, your disability must be documented by the Disabilities Services Office ( 417-625-9516 ).

The Residence Life Office cannot guarantee specific housing styles.

CAN I LEAVE MY BELONGINGS IN MY ROOM DURING WINTER BREAK IF I AM RETURNING TO THE SAME ROOM IN THE SPRING?

Yes, you may leave all your belongings in your room during Winter Break if you will be living in the same room once you return for the Spring Semester.

Please note that we are not responsible for your belongings should anything happen to them while they are being stored over the break.

CAN I STORE PERSONAL ITEMS IN MY ASSIGNED ROOM BEFORE THE MOVE-IN DATE?

What if i want to move off-campus, what size are the beds.

All beds in the residence halls are Twin XL 36″ X 80″.

There will be 30″ of clearance under your bed if you set it at its tallest setting.

AM I PERMITTED TO BRING A REFRIGERATOR AND/OR MICROWAVE?

Yes, you may bring a refrigerator and/or microwave.

Please note that our private rooms, suites, apartments, and quads are already stocked with a refrigerator and microwave ready for your use.

WHAT IS MY MAILING ADDRESS?

Are there laundry facilities on-site.

Yes, we offer many laundry facilities on-site for you to use.

Our laundry facilities are located in the Mayes Student Life Center, Blaine Hall, McCormick Hall and Stegge Hall.

It does not cost to use the facilities. Bring your student ID for access.

Fall 2024 Room Assignments and Move-in Information June 26, 2024

Fall 2024 room assignments are starting to go out, so be sure to check your UNM email . Plus, applications for early arrival and regular move-in are available on your Residence Dashboard. 

Please note your room assignment  will not post  on your Housing Dashboard until after July 3, as this ensures  proper billing and assignments of   all incoming residents.  

The early arrival move-in dates are August 9-10, and there is a flat charge of $175 .  The regular move-in dates for Fall 2024 are August 15-17, 2024, and there is no fee . Please log in to your housing Dashboard to submit your move in application.

Police department creates ‘soft’ interview room for assault survivors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Gray News) - The Kansas City Police Department unveiled its first “soft room,” the first of its kind in Missouri.

The soft room will be used to interview survivors of sexual assault and trauma.

The department said a soft room is a “critical” component of trauma-informed care and allows survivors to feel physically and emotionally safe. It can also have a positive impact on the interview process.

It is decorated with a rug, artwork and new furniture.

The room was installed by Project Beloved, a nonprofit that has installed more than 100 similar rooms nationwide. The Police Foundation of Kansas City funded the project.

Didn't get my room assignment.

I sent in my prefrence form and the payment before February 1st, but when I went to check my assignment this morning it wasn't there. It said I hadn't completed my form, so I went back to the form, but everything was filled out. Is there anything I can do? I really wanted to make the first round of housing, as me and my roommate both can't live in a community style room for our own reasons. Is there anything I can do at this point?
