Become a qualified heavy goods vehicle (HGV) or bus driver

Driver cpc part 2 test: case studies.

You can book the part 2 case studies test of the Driver Certificate of Professional Competence ( CPC ) as soon as you’ve got your provisional licence. You do not need to have passed the Driver CPC part 1 theory test.

If you’re requalifying as a heavy goods vehicle ( HGV ) or bus driver by taking parts 2 and 4 of the test, you cannot book your test online. You have to book by phone instead.

What to take to your test

You must bring one of the following:

• a Great Britain photocard driving licence
• a Northern Ireland photocard driving licence and paper counterpart
• an EU photocard driving licence (and paper counterpart, if you have one)

If you do not have a photocard driving licence, bring your paper licence and a valid passport.

Your test will be cancelled and you’ll lose your fee if you do not bring the right documents.

Revision and practice

You can use books or software to revise for the test and take practice tests.

You can buy:

• Driver CPC : the Official DVSA Guide for Professional Goods Vehicle Drivers online if you’re learning to drive a lorry
• The Official DVSA Guide to Driving Buses and Coaches book if you’re learning to drive a bus or coach

How the test works

The test is made up of 7 case studies you work through on a computer. The case studies are short stories based on situations that you’re likely to come across in your working life.

You’ll be asked between 6 and 8 multiple-choice questions on each case study.

The test lasts for 1 hour and 15 minutes, and the pass mark is 40 out of 50.

Your test result

You’ll get a letter with the results at the test centre.

You need the test pass reference number when you book your Driver CPC part 4 practical demonstration test.

The pass letter is valid for 2 years.

You need to pass the Driver CPC part 4 practical demonstration test within 2 years, otherwise you’ll have to pass the part 2 case studies test again.

If you fail the test

You’ll get a result letter with feedback telling you why you’ve failed.

You can book another case studies test straight away, but you cannot take it for another 3 clear working days.

Cancelled tests

You can apply for a refund of out-of-pocket expenses if DVSA cancels your test at short notice.

Failed my CPC mod 2 twice. I bought this as there is no other revision out there. I've got to say the case study questions seem a bit hard but obviously if you put the time in to practice they get alot easier. I passed my CPC mod 2 straight away after purchasing this app so I'm happy. If I had known about this app on my first test I would of bought it then and would of stopped myself failing.

This app is so useful as there's so many things to learn for the HGV module 2. Edit: After a month of using this app I passed my mod 2 cpc first time

I was told that there was no revision material for the CPC test. This App got me through the test first time! I would suggest reading the "Info" section in the App. Once you've completed that, start doing some "Practice Case Studies," then go onto the "Official Style Tests." I scored 47/50 on the day, and as a first timer, I don't think I could've passed without this App. I would highly recommend it to any newbies looking to pass their CPC first time. Trevor and John are multi-manning a vehicle from the UK to France. They work for TSD Haulage who have been contracted to deliver car exhausts to a manufacturing plant. They are driving a curtain-sided lorry with a gross vehicle weight of 18 tonnes and carrying a 10 tonne load.

This is John’s first trip abroad and he will take the opportunity to learn the ropes from Trevor who has been driving on the continent for over 20 years. Trevor will prepare the vehicle and complete the CMR consignment note before collecting John from his home which is on the way to the ferry port.

Both drivers have just returned from a four-day rest and are keen to get the job done as quickly as possible.

Today is Monday and Trevor will drive the first part of the journey to the ferry port. They will stop for their daily rest at 21:00 in France.

The House overwhelmingly approved a bill Saturday that could lead to the company being banned in the U.S., and it's on a fast track to President Biden's desk.

MICHEL MARTIN, HOST:

TikTok is facing what might be its biggest threat yet here in the U.S.

A MARTÍNEZ, HOST:

Yeah. That's because the House overwhelmingly approved a bill Saturday that could lead to the social media company's ban in the United States. And because it's part of the foreign aid package to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan, which also passed over the weekend, it's on the fast track to President Biden's desk.

MARTIN: NPR tech correspondent Bobby Allyn is covering this story, and he's with us now to tell us more about it. Good morning, Bobby.

BOBBY ALLYN, BYLINE: Good morning, Michel.

MARTIN: So how did this bill come about in the first place?

ALLYN: Well, TikTok was really caught off guard. It was attached to a large package of aid for Israel and Ukraine. The House tried to pass this once before, and it didn't advance in the Senate. But this time, it is all but guaranteed to become law. The way it came about, though, kind of tucked into this foreign aid package, really sparked some criticism on social media. Let's just say, Michel, some people just thought it was very sneaky.

MARTIN: Now, we've heard a number of lawmakers express real alarm about TikTok, I mean, some calling it a spy balloon in Americans' phones. So just - if you could just set the rhetoric aside for a minute, what are the fears about?

ALLYN: Yeah. Well, the concern is that China, at any time, can ask ByteDance, TikTok's owner, for access to Americans' data and could spy on U.S. citizens. Or China could put their finger on the scale and influence what Americans see on their TikTok feeds, especially worrying ahead of a presidential election. Here's how Florida Republican Kat Cammack framed this bill when it first passed in the House last month.

(SOUNDBITE OF ARCHIVED RECORDING)

KAT CAMMACK: We aren't infringing on constitutionally protected speech or growing the size of government. All we're saying is break up with the Chinese Communist Party.

ALLYN: Yeah. And that's something that's become a refrain in Washington. It's worth pointing out, though, that the Chinese Communist Party does not control TikTok or its parent company. But under the country's intelligence laws, TikTok would be legally bound to supply information on you or me or anyone else on TikTok whenever the government asked. For another perspective, here's North Carolina Republican Dan Bishop from last month's debate.

DAN BISHOP: America confronts a great challenge in China, and it will not prevail by becoming more like it.

ALLYN: You know, how can the U.S. condemn authoritarian regimes for shutting down social media sites when here we are trying to do the very same thing? Overall, though, Michel, there really is bipartisan support for cracking down on TikTok.

MARTIN: So next up is the Senate. A vote could come tomorrow, and President Biden has signaled he plans to sign it. What happens then?

ALLYN: Well, once Biden signs it, ByteDance will have a year to sell the company. If it's not sold by then, it will become illegal in the U.S. for TikTok to be carried by any web hosting services. Apple and Google will have to remove it from their app stores, which, in effect, would be a nationwide ban. Now, TikTok is gearing up to take this to court. The company sees this as the suppression of free speech. Bottom line, though, Michel, TikTok will not be disappearing from our phones anytime soon.

MARTIN: And Bobby, before we let you go, how likely is it that TikTok finds a buyer?

ALLYN: That is the big question, but there's two things to consider here - the price and TikTok's algorithm. It's one of the most popular apps in the world, so it's going to be really expensive to buy, maybe more than $100 billion. That limits potential buyers. And the algorithm - China must approve the selling of this algorithm, and China said it will not be doing that. So there's a real question here. What are you even buying if you are trying to buy TikTok, right? To buy a social media app without the algorithm is like trying to buy Coca-Cola without its secret recipe. Who would want to do that?

MARTIN: I don't know. Who would? That is NPR's Bobby Allyn. Bobby, thank you.

Passed 1st time..

After scouring through all the Apps looking for some to help train in the LGV theory, Hazard perception and Drivers CPC, 2 weeks spending between 15 and 45 mins a day taking the main tests for both hazard and theory. Without a doubt with out this app I would never have passed the hazard perception as I never had to take it first time passing my driving. The theory anything driving related or Highway Code related I was fine with but it learned me many other important aspects specifically for HGV/LGV driving including driving hours, load sizes, axle positioning etc. I passed these with 93% on theory and 88% on hazard. The CPC is a little different as it’s scenario based and some questions offer little explanation and therefore so much harder to prepare yourself. Would definitely advise getting the litterateur from a book store to read and learn the information required things such as E.U legislation and required documents you need to drive abroad for the various load types you would be hauling.

Best apps for CPC.

I downloaded the bundle of these apps for my CPC and cam hands down say they got me passed with flying colours. Multiple choice 95/100, hazard perception 70/100 and case studies 48/50. I barely touched the hazard perception app as I’ve only done it on normal driving licence 3 years ago but all questions given in these apps are either the exact same or very very similar. Recommend 100%.
