“Tell me a story!” Something we all have heard or said so many times. As children, it is through stories we begin to learn how the world works – and that is why we are all so strongly attracted to them. Stories can invite us into an unthinkable reality, they help us learn from the past or even see the future, they offer archetypes of good and evil and can very well play with our imagination as well as logic. A good story can sell everything – not only does this apply to books and movies, but also to everything we do in our professional and personal life. We need a story to design a strong presentation, create an effective post for social media, manage an interview, deliver a business pitch or write an academic essay. While this course focuses on the importance of a story, we will mainly pay attention to the writer (his/her imagination, vocabulary, narrative styles, critical thinking, experience, dreams and memories) – YOU.

Acquired skills

  • Mastering the art of storytelling (“Show Don’t Tell” techniques)
  • Thinking imaginatively, creatively with an “outside the box” attitude
  • Writing for the audience with an ability to make them see your point of view
  • Selling your idea, concept or product through a variety of narrative tools and methods (presentation, advertisement, blog, CV, essay, public speech)
  • Enhancing your English vocabulary, composition and writing style

I went on the trip thinking I knew what the school would be about... it was better than anything I could of thought. Everyone was so lovely and it really was a once in a life time trip. It’s taught me how easy it is to live in another country and I was lucky enough to meet different people from different countries and backgrounds. I feel very bless to have had to opportunity. I would easily go again.

Personal Development (ON CAMPUS)

ESS brings together people not afraid of engaging in something completely different from what they’re used to doing back home. It’s a great way to meet and interact with young people representing different cultures and as such – a definite opportunity to spend quite possibly the best couple of weeks in your life if you’re curious, enthusiastic and open to new experiences. Also, Prague is absolutely amazing!

Frauke - Netherlands

Design Thinking (ON CAMPUS)

Besides massive new illustration skills, I learned how much you can achieve in only two weeks. I met likeminded people who are open minded and fun to hang out with. The summer school helped me to develop professionally, but most of all it gave me more self esteem in this field of work.

Teachers help students develop their creative mindset and learn to effectively communicate in online and offline media. Some of the included disciplines are online marketing, basics of business, brand theory, market analysis, digital platforms and online trends, marketing and web analytics, start-up preparation.

Students are taught the principles and practices of advertising (conventional and online formats), cinematography, television and radio. Teachers help students learn how to think creatively and outside the box, and bring their projects into life.

Students study creative industry management, commercial communication law and ethics, online marketing, basics of business, brand theory, market analysis, online trends, web analytics, media strategies and start-up preparation. Graduates work in marketing, communication, online and media agencies.

Find summer courses by keyword, creative storytelling and creative writing.

Course leader

Martina Dolezalova is a Czech writer, reviewer, travel blogger and copywriter with four belletristic books published. As a graduate from the Charles University, Pedagogical Faculty, in the field of English literature and linguistics and Czech literature.

Creative Writing: From Inspiration to Craft

Unlock your creativity: Join our immersive creative writing course and embark on a transformative literary journey. Dive into the art of storytelling and hone your skills in crafting compelling narratives. This course will guide you from inspirational readings and discussions to hands-on writing assignments. You will explore new writing techniques on the examples of contemporary short story writers, and ultimately discover the power of your unique voice as you delve into character development, vivid descriptions, and gripping plotlines.

This course offers to teach students the basics of storytelling and inspire them to find their own unique writing voice and style. The course combines theoretical elements such as literary analysis of short stories with practical daily writing sessions where students will write on assigned prompts. An essential part of this course is peer review and feedback , where students will closely examine each other’s work.

In this three week programme, students will examine specific topics such as character development, setting, dialogue, point of view (POV), detail, writing with the senses, etc.  The course will also have a visit to an art museum where students will immerse themselves and choose a painting which speaks to them before writing reflective art essay on it. • Home to Kafka and Mozart, Prague is a charming city of grand pastel-colored buildings, world-class music, enchanting puppet theatres, and verdant parks. This small city invites you to wander its winding cobblestone streets and stop in at one of its sumptuous old cafes for a luscious dessert or Bohemian beer.
  • While your surroundings and experiences in Prague will help to awaken your imagination, the techniques we explore in class will sharpen your appreciation of Prague.
