This day is celebrated to raise awareness among people about covering the social, cultural, political, and economic contribution of tourism towards gaining the Sustainable Development Goals. The day is also celebrated to spread awareness about the importance of tourism and its impact on our society. During the time of the pandemic, the tourism sector remains one of the worst affected sectors. Almost, 90 percent of world heritage sites were closed and millions of people who were dependent on tourism for their livelihoods were left unemployed. The purpose of World Tourism Day is to highlight the importance of the tourism sector in our lives and to focus on inclusive growth in the sector.

Over the last two decades, the Tourism industry has become one of the most important and powerful engines for economic and sustainable growth in many countries. France is the most popular tourist destination in the world and it is famous among people for more than 30 years, as it offers a myriad of attractions like the Eiffel tower, countless world-class restaurants, the Musée du Louvre, the Palace of Versailles, the Notre-Dame cathedral, the beaches of the Côte d’Azur, and course, Disneyland Paris.

Spain is another tourist destination with interesting overflowing attractions. It has many beautiful destinations to visit like the Guggenheim Museum, the Alhambra and Generalife Gardens, Europe’s largest aquarium (the lily-shaped L’Oceanogràfic), the beaches of Gran Canaria, and La Rambla in Barcelona.

London, England’s capital city, attracts visitors with a wide range of sights including Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace, and the British Museum, which includes the largest collection of Egyptian artifacts. Not only this, but England also offers the mysterious Stonehenge, the Beatles’ birthplace in Liverpool, the quaint beauty of the Cotswolds, the sci-fi botanical gardens of the Eden Project, and more.

Well, tourism is not only important for a country’s growth it is also equally important for people. Tourism has many social benefits too, the more we experience other ways of life, the less threatened we feel by differences among the people. Good morning to everyone present here. Today I am here to give a speech on Tourism Day and to speak out about the importance of tourism. As it was established by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), we celebrate it on September 27th every year, which aims to raise global awareness of tourism and its positive social and economic effects.

Tourism can be seen as a teacher, as also said by Lisa Ling: “The best education I have ever received was through travel”. Which marks the importance of tourism and connects it with education. Tourism teaches us about history, geography, and the environment through historical sites, animals, and wildlife. However, there are also negative aspects, such as the fact that tourism harms the environment and local culture due to overcrowding.

Tourism also contributes significantly to the economy, with India’s tourism sector contributing 8.1% of the country’s GDP in 2020 and creating 42.6 million jobs. It also promotes culture, as visitors also come to see the country’s diversity and unity. We must celebrate Tourism Day by appreciating the hardworking employees of the industry and encouraging foreign visitors to discover the country’s rich history, diversity, and unity.

Speech on World Tourism Day for Students (2 Minute Speech on World Tourism Day )

Good morning, everyone present here. I feel delighted to be in a position to give a speech before you all on this important day. Today is a landmark day for the promotion of our diverse culture. On this day, I would like to quote St. Augustine, who said that. “The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only pages. His statement highlights the importance of travelling, as without it we will be unable to know the world.

World Tourism Day is observed annually on September 27 to increase public awareness of tourism. It was started by UNWTO to encourage environmentally friendly tourism and cultural preservation. We can see that both the economy and culture benefit from tourism, as a report published by the World Travel and Tourism Council states that in 2020, tourism will have generated 42.6 million jobs and account for 8.1% of India’s GDP.

It not only contributes to GDP but also imparts knowledge about local history, culture, and the environment. India has a varied geography that offers each tourist a distinctive experience. On this day, we have to show our appreciation for the diligent workers in the tourism sector and encourage foreign tourists to learn more about the country’s fascinating history, culture, and diversity.

Greetings to everyone. Today I am honoured to address the crowd with a speech on the annual World Tourism Day, which is celebrated on September 27th, every year, to raise global awareness of tourism. It was established by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), which aims to promote globally accessible and sustainable travel and increase global awareness of tourism. Tourism has always played a significant role in promoting culture and contributing to the economy.

Visitors to India come to see the diversity of the country, bringing people together and providing a sense of pride and unity. In 2020, the tourism sector contributed 8.1% of India’s total GDP and created around 42.6 million jobs, accounting for 9.5% of total employment in the country. However, tourism is not only about promoting the economy but also about promoting culture, and it is also treated as a teacher who is teaching us about different subjects in a practical aspect.

By visiting a place, visitors can learn about its history, the people who lived there, and their impact on the environment. The animals and wildlife of a place can also serve as examples of how tourism can act as a teacher. However, there are also negative aspects of tourism, such as the potential harm caused by overcrowding and the impact on the culture and living behaviour of local people. Therefore, it is crucial to be cautious and respectful of the places we visit.

Our country is a diverse place for all people, from mountain lovers to sea and beach lovers. For mountain lovers, there are numerous mountains and hilly areas, while for sea and beach lovers, states like Goa and Mumbai offer a vibrant culture and diverse coastline. From north to south, our country is truly diverse, offering a unique and enriching experience for all visitors.

On this Tourism Day, we should appreciate the hardworking employees of the tourism industry who contribute to the preservation of our culture, and historical sites, and the advancement of our economy. Let’s make this day a day to encourage foreign visitors to visit our country and discover its historical sites, love, affection, and diversity.

World Tourism Day Speech (5-Minute Speech on World Tourism Day )

Greetings to everyone present here. Today i feel very fortunate to stand before you all to discuss and to give a speech on the tourism day that is celebrated to promote the awareness of tourism in the whole world. Tourism day which is celebrated on 27th of September every year which was established by United Nations World Tourism Organisation UNWTO.

It is an organization within the UN which noted for advancing globally accessible and sustainable travel. It established the World Tourism Day in its third session in 1980 with a purpose to increase global awareness of tourism and the positive social and economic effects it has. As we all know that how tourism is promoting our culture and is also contributes a significant amount in the economy.

As also stated by the world Travel and Tourism Council that how tourism supports and promoting the economy as in 2020 the contribution of tourism sector was 8.1% of the total GDP of India and it also creates around 42.6 millions of jobs which goes around 9.5% of total employment in the whole country. But tourism is not only limited in promoting the economy of the country, it plays a significant role in promoting culture as the visitors come to the country to see the diversity as India has a unity in Diversity which brings people together and provides us with a feeling of pride and unity.

Tourism can also be termed as a teacher as how teacher teaches us different subject just like that tourism explains these in a practical aspect by visualizing the things like when we visit a place we get to know about their history that who lived there earlier and what happed to it and when we visit a place having geographical importance we get to know that how the earth and the environment works. The animals, wildlife are all the example that how tourism is acting as a teacher.

But again there is not only the fun side of tourism, there are several bad aspect like when a lot of people start to go at a place then it can harm the place and also the culture and living behaviour of the local people so we must have to be careful and have some respect for the place that we are visiting o n this tourism day let’s celebrate the day in a way by appreciating the hard-working employees of the business who are working as a tourism industry and contributing in the preservation of our culture and historical sites and in the advancement of our economy.

Let’s make this day to encourage the foreign people to visit our country and discover the historical sites, the love and affection and the diversity and unity in our country. Our country is for all the people like for the  mountain lovers there are ample of mountains and hilly areas and those who have love for sea and beaches there is states kike Goa and Mumbai and to see the vibrant culture and it’s diversity then from north to south it is totally diverse.

Recently I and my family have visited Arugambay and Kumana national park; Sigiriya and Polonnaruwa; Trincomalee and Yala. And here I am, for the first time, today in Kandy.  All so beautiful, so attractive; so relaxing.

What a blessing to be in this beautiful island nation of Sri Lanka. No matter which corner of SL one visits, there is something unique to see and experience, natural, cultural, historical. I will make my GOAL to visit the approximate 5,000 unique tourist attractions I’ve been told about.

SL uniqueness is borne out by demand internationally to experience it, where we see tourism as third largest export earner in Sri Lanka: [5% of GDP in 2018; ForEx earnings nearly doubled in 4 years from US$ 2.4b (2014) to US$ 4.3b in 2018. The number of tourists also grew over this period from 1.5 m to 2.3 m.]  And ratings by the most important global travel companies like Lonely Planet.

I’m a lucky one, as a guest in SL, to experience the tourism, even as Covid still threatens. Sigiriya; no tourists there; 1 st day lion rock.

A blessing for me, BUT still bad for the national and local economy —

YES indeed: during the last two years, the tourism sector has faced sooooo many challenges with the major setbacks of the tragic Easter attacks in 2019 and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic---two significant shocks in a row.

While 2020 was pegged to achieve 2.5 million arrivals, pandemic-associated travel restrictions happened just as tourism was showing good signs of recovery post Easter Sunday terrorist attacks.

I know how Sri Lanka has bounced back from adversity before, so I’m optimistice. Learning lessons and thinking anew.

Indeed what this revival thinking cannot assume is that what was before, will be again in the future . Due to COVID-19 worldwide impacts on tourism are bad—an estimated 100 to 120 million tourism jobs globally being at risk according to the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). As you all know the economic and social losses are palpable also in Sri Lanka.

So the pandemic is an opportunity to adapt and do things differently. While highly commending the Government of Sri Lanka’s efforts in curtailing the spread of COVID-19 in the country, making it safe for all of us, it seems that international tourism and visitations to the island will be slow to return.

As such, two important points:

1) domestic tourism offer the opportunity for a new re-awakening . For Sri Lankans to take opportunities to visit the different corners of the island, and learn or relearn the history, geography, and experience the beauty.

2) Given the impacts on the economy, livelihoods and social security on many that are reliant on this industry, it is a time to think about even better was to ensure social security for those most affected due to tourism drops.

A COVID-19 rapid assessment of tourism impacts, that SLTDA and UNDP conducted, revealed that a majority of formal jobs were protected but informal workers, i.e. 70-80% of jobs, were badly affected with reduced salaries and lost daily wages and women working in tourism were worse affected. Thus many people engaged in the sector are struggling, including small scale entrepreneurs.With majority not having any access to formal financial organizations or other business development services, working together MoT and SLTDA with Citi bank Foundation funding, UNDP is supporting women entrepreneurs to thrive and overcome such obstacles.

This is thus also a message to get the basic principles right.

The global head of UNDP, its Administrator Achim Steiner, last week said: “ Recovery from crisis cannot be driven by a zero-sum game of economy versus environment, or health versus economy…rather, this is a once-in-a-generation chance to set things straight ,”.

There are THREE messages here: one is that tourism can no longer be viewed as a ‘standalone sector’. The repeated shocks have show that tourism is an engine of employment, economic growth, sustainability and an enabler of boosting other sectors such as agriculture and livelihoods. Thus, investing in tourism revival is considered one of the fastest means to kick start other economic sectors affected by the pandemic.

The second message is that resilience of its sector requires a focus on sustainability , on thinking GREEN while thinking ECONOMY. GREEN AND JOBS going together. [Sustainability is ranked among the top tourism trends, with more and more travelers demanding for eco-friendly options, traveling to lesser known destinations and being closer to local communities.]

In this line, the UN Secretary General recently highlighted tourism as a key pillar for conservation of natural and cultural heritage. This is a significant point for Sri Lanka given its rich cultural heritage and pristine environments.

Third , financial viability is a key concern in the concept of Sustainability.  Resilient livelihoods for local communities will determine their willingness to contribute positively towards sustainable environmental practices.

Sustainable tourism destinations are not only good for the country, economy and its people, but this win-win situation would be a cornerstone in our joint efforts towards tourism recovery.

Making Sri Lankan Tourism great and building forward better.

Green means sustainability, while taking new and different ways of getting economic opportunity.

While providing opportunities for people, tourism can play an important role in preserving our unique and shared cultures, protecting the biodiversity and the ecosystems that sustain us.

Sustainable and eco-friendly tourism, promoting investments to encourage rural environmentally friendly entrepreneurship, diversifying and exploring new product developments and last but not the least, using digital tools like the Tourism App SLTDA with UNDP / Citra Lab support is developing, will accelerate a GREENING of Sri Lankan tourism.

Together, we can plan for a greener, safer and resilient tourism sector. Blending public resources with the expertise of private sector industry experts, and the commitment of the informal sector who would play a major role while securing their own livelihoods and knowledge of government officials, I am sure we can develop a great tourism industry can be proud of.

Finally, in closing, to the Ministry and SLTDA, and to our funding partners the European Union and Citi Foundation.

UNDP is very pleased and excited to be associated with this kind of Tourism revival. To build forward better, not build back better, under the fantastic leadership of the Ministry of Tourism and SLTDA.

As we look to recover from this profound crisis, the safe restart of tourism is essential.

I would like to extend my gratitude and appreciation to the Ministry of Tourism and Aviation and SLTDA for the tremendous being undertaken, and to EU and Citi Foundation funding and to UN partners IOM, UNWTO, UN Habitat, ILO. With the visionary leadership of the Minister, Secretary and Chairperson of SLTDA, in this most challenging year, let us work together to focus on tourism’s importance for people living in rural areas, so we can deliver on the promise of the Sustainable Development Goals to leave no one behind.

UNWTO has therefore designated World Tourism Day 2021 as a day to focus on Tourism for Inclusive Growth. UNWTO invites its Member States, as well as non-members, sister UN agencies, businesses and individuals to celebrate tourism’s unique ability to ensure that nobody is left behind as the world begins to open up again and look to the future.

World Tourism Day, celebrated each year on 27 September, is the global observance day fostering awareness of tourism’s social, cultural, political and economic value and the contribution that the sector can make towards reaching the Sustainable Development Goals.

Putin's Victory Day Speech: A Show of Defiance and a Warning to the West
