Mark Moore is Head of School and Professor of Ocean Biogeochemistry within the School of Ocean and Earth Science, University of Southampton, based at the National Oceanography Centre Southampton.

He is a sea-going scientist predominantly working on marine nutrient and carbon cycling and contributes to teaching within undergraduate and graduate Marine Biology and Oceanography degree programmes.

His research interests focus on resource limitation of marine phytoplankton and other microbes alongside the physical causes and biogeochemical consequences of these processes.

Dr. Mark Moore concentrates his practice in the area of intellectual property law, including the preparation and prosecution of U.S. and foreign patent applications in the biochemical, medical, pharmaceutical, and molecular genetic arts. For the past 25 years, Mark has assisted clients with patent procurement, and has been involved in various aspects of patent portfolio development, including implementation of effective patent prosecution strategies for technologies in the chemical, pharmaceutical and life sciences. He also has significant experience as a technical consultant in various aspects of intellectual property, and has assisted attorneys with due diligence, opinion, expert witness preparation, discovery, and litigation work.

Before joining Haynes and Boone, Mark spent six years with the Houston IP firm of Williams, Morgan & Amerson, and prior to that, was a patent agent in the Austin office of the former Arnold, White & Durkee for more than five years. Prior to beginning his intellectual property career, Mark was an academic researcher in the field of molecular genetics. His doctoral dissertation focused on molecular aspects of membrane biogenesis in photosynthetic bacteria, and characterization of the phylogenetic relatedness of more than two dozen species of photosynthetic prokaryotes.

Mark is a co-inventor of U.S. and foreign patents involving a variety of technologies, including methods for bioremediation of environmental heavy-metal contaminants; the generation of hydrogen fuel by photosynthetic bacteria; and molecular biological methods for treating human diseases including hypertension.

About the authors

Mark henshaw.

Mark Henshaw began his CIA career with the Agency's Office of Transnational Issues in 1999 as a Science, Weapons & Technology analyst and became a founding "plankholder" with the Agency's Information Operations Center (IOC) in 2001. In 2006, Mark graduated from the CIA Sherman Kent School's Advanced Analyst Program and undertook a three-year rotation with the CIA Red Cell, a unit charged with "taking a pronounced 'outside-of-the-box' approach that will provoke thought and offer an alternative viewpoint on the full range of analytic issues."

During 16 years at CIA, Mark earned eighteen Exceptional Performance Awards and was the recipient of the prestigious Director of National Intelligence's 2007 Galileo Award, which "recognizes innovative and creative solutions to the United States future intelligence challenges." His winning co-authored paper, "A National Security Simulations Center" proposed that the DNI should establish an Intelligence Community (IC) center that would promote and organize war games for IC training, analysis, and outreach.

Mark graduated from Brigham Young University in 1999 with a Master's of International Relations from the David M. Kennedy School of International and Area Studies; and a Master's of Business Administration from the Marriot School of Management.
