If you're looking for the best small projectors, many options are available, but unfortunately, most offer inadequate image quality. The smaller the projector, the dimmer it tends to be, with many portable models lacking vibrancy even in the darkest rooms. While no small and portable projector is going to compete with the bigger units when it comes to image quality, some models do provide a decent enough viewing experience. Portable projectors also tend to be fully featured regarding smart features and have a full suite of image correction features, emphasizing their set-up-and-go nature. Ultimately, the best easy-to-carry projectors balance portability and image quality in a small, attractive package.

We've bought and tested more than 35 projectors, and below, you'll find the best mini projectors to buy. Best Portable Projector

The best portable projector we've tested is the XGIMI Halo+. It's a very small unit and weighs only 3.7 pounds, so you can easily throw it into a backpack. Plus, it has an integrated battery promising up to 2.5 hours of uninterrupted playback, long enough to watch most movies. It has many image correction features: full auto keystone, autofocus, intelligent screen alignment, and obstacle avoidance, so it's truly a projector that you can easily take on the go as it corrects its image automatically as you move it. It has the Android TV smart interface, Chromecast and AirScreen support, and Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.0 capabilities. This makes it very easy to use on the go, as you can connect a Bluetooth speaker to the projector to seamlessly stream music or movies through your phone's wireless hotspot.

Like most portable models, it's slightly dim but significantly brighter than other battery-powered ultra-portables, and it projects a pleasant 1080p image as long as all the lights are off. Fortunately, it does have great contrast, emphasizing its dark room, or dark night, capabilities. It also has a wide color gamut and HDR support but isn't bright enough to truly take advantage of them. It has one HDMI port, which also doubles as an eARC port, and a USB port through which you can play video files directly to the projector.

Best Batteryless Portable Projector

If you don't need an integrated battery, you can save money by going for the Epson EpiqVision Mini EF12, one of the best mini projectors we've tested. Its cubic shape is small and compact, weighing only 4.7 pounds. While it doesn't have an integrated battery, meaning you still need to plug it into an outlet, it has full auto keystone correction and autofocus, making it easy to set up or move around. It also has built-in Android TV with full Chromecast integration, so you don't need to worry about getting an external streaming dongle. Like the top two picks, this model projects a sharp 1080p image.

The projector supports HDR10/HLG, but it's too dim to take advantage of. It's a tad brighter than the XGIMI Halo+ , but the XGIMI's brightness is more uniform, and this model has better contrast than the Epson. Where the Mini EF12 truly shines, however, is in its color accuracy; it's impressively accurate out-of-the-box and can be improved even more by simply adjusting its color temperature. This makes it a much more viable option for those who care about accurate colors than the top pick, so colors look as they should when you're using this projector in your friend's basement. You can connect a computer to the unit through its mini USB port, and the projector comes with full Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support, so you can quickly connect it to a wireless network when moving it around.

Best Budget Portable Projector

If you're looking for a cheap projector that still offers acceptable image quality, check out the XGIMI MoGo 2, the best small projector that won't cost you an arm and a leg. It's a very small projector that weighs only 2.4 pounds, so you can easily throw it into a backpack. While it doesn't have an internal battery, it supports external charging via power banks through its USB-C port. It has many image correction features: full auto keystone, autofocus, intelligent screen alignment, and obstacle avoidance. It has the Android TV 11 smart interface, Chromecast and AirScreen support, and Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.0 capabilities to round up the package.

Unfortunately, the projector is very dim. You need to turn off all the lights to get a pleasant image, and even then, it's not exactly the most vibrant viewing experience possible. Its contrast is mediocre but good enough to provide a passable dark room viewing experience. It also has a wide color gamut and HDR support but isn't bright enough to take advantage of them. Unlike the other picks, this unit only projects a 720p image, so it doesn't look as sharp. Ultimately, you get this projector because of its price, not its image quality. If cheap and portable is what you're after, it's hard to beat the MoGo 2.

• Anker Nebula Capsule 3 Laser: The Anker Nebula Capsule 3 Laser is a passable portable projector with an integrated battery promising up to 2.5 hours of uninterrupted playback. Still, the XGIMI Halo+ is much brighter for a similar price and has better contrast. Inversely, the XGIMI MoGo 2 offers image quality similar to the Anker but at a much lower cost, although the MoGo 2 doesn't have a battery. See our review
• XGIMI MoGo 2 Pro: The XGIMI MoGo 2 Pro is better than its cheaper sibling, the XGIMI MoGo 2, due to its superior contrast and sharper 1080p image. However, the more affordable model is a tad brighter and more accurate. Ultimately, the MoGo 2 Pro isn't worth the price hike over the MoGo 2. See our review
• Samsung The Freestyle 2nd Gen: The Samsung The Freestyle 2nd Gen is an interesting portable projector with an innovative swiveling stand. Unfortunately, it's very dim and doesn't have an integrated battery, so the XGIMI Halo+ is the better overall product. See our review
• XGIMI Elfin: The XGIMI Elfin is an incredibly small 1080p projector with a full suite of image correction and wireless features, so it's very easy to take on the go. Unfortunately, this model is dimmer, with slightly worse contrast, than the XGIMI Halo+. It is, however, much more accurate than the Halo+, so if you don't need a battery and care about accuracy, then the Elfin is an interesting alternative. As much as we love seeing Apple silicon put to good use in MacBooks, where its power efficiency helps deliver some of the best battery life in the business, the Mac Studio with M1 Ultra proves that Apple’s chips have the chops to compete with the best desktop PC silicon from Intel and AMD. You're not sacrificing power with this small computer.

Since this is Apple, you’ll have to pay a premium. The Mac Studio’s $1,999 starting price isn’t too bad for what it offers, and that gets you the entry-level model with the same M1 Max chip that's in the 2021 MacBook Pros , which means this mini-computer packs a serious punch. The mini PC itself is so slim it might get mistaken for a laptop battery pack or a desktop dock, but inside it boasts an Intel Core processor, up to 64GB of RAM and as much as 1TB of storage. It has plenty of ports and performance that puts it squarely among the best productivity-focused mini PCs you can buy.

How to choose the best mini PC

Mini PCs range from small project PCs for under $50 (£50/AU$75) to compact desktops that can cost $1,000 or more. Stick PCs are the most versatile, and generally cost between $100 (£100/AU$150) and $200 (£200/$AU300), and will work with most TVs or monitors. Mini PC prices vary considerably based on hardware.

Know what you want: Finding the right mini PC for you starts with knowing what you're looking for. Do you want something small enough to tuck behind a TV as a dedicated streaming box, or are you looking for something with gaming capability? Do you want a basic internet-browsing machine, or do you need serious processing and graphics capability? Our best picks above do a good job of highlighting the use cases different systems are best suited to.

Find the right size: Then there's the question of form factor. Mini PCs are all small, but there is a range of options within the category, from stick PCs small enough to slip in your pocket to desktop towers that are still compact enough to stow out of sight. You'll sacrifice power for a smaller system, but you can still get a capable desktop that's small enough to carry in a backpack, even if you're after gaming capability or workstation performance.

Make sure you like your configuration and upgrade options: Finally, you want to look at configuration options and upgradability. Many mini PCs have two or three configuration options, which can change everything from the amount of included storage to the presence of high-end processors and discrete graphics cards. There's also the question of upgrades. Many of the smallest mini PCs leave no room for future hardware changes, but others are designed to let you add memory or storage, or even outfitted with ports that allow for an external GPU for expanded capability. How we test the best mini PCs

We put every mini PC we review through a number of benchmark tests and real-world uses to get the clearest picture we can of how well it performs, what uses it's best suited to and what sort of capability you get for the price.

For performance, we use the Geekbench processor test to measure a system's overall processing capabilities. We run custom spreadsheets to see how long it takes to handle large data sets and number-crunching tasks. We also test the file transfer speeds, copying large files to see how long a system takes to copy multimedia files, documents and other content.

To test the graphics capability, we run a number of benchmark tests from 3DMark. When a system has the capability, we'll also run individual game tests and the SteamVR performance test to see how capable a system is at handling the demands of modern gaming.

Most importantly, we spend a ton of time simply using each mini PC for everyday activities. We watch movies, do work, play games, and blast music on the speakers, all to get a better sense of which ones are worth your money.

As long as you have the right peripherals available, you can move mini PCs around to wherever you want and plug them into available monitors or TVs for immediate availability. Apple Mac Mini

The Mac Mini M2 is a stupendously powerful miniature PC, sporting the same M2 processor that you can find in some of Apple's best MacBooks. There are even options for higher-end configurations like the M2 Pro and up to 32GB of RAM. Storage options are expansive, with up to 8TB available for those willing to pay extra, although you can always augment a more bare-bones system with an external hard drive .

Starting at $600, the Mac Mini is relatively affordable too — although its top configurations do get rather pricey. This system runs cooler and quieter then MacBook Pro models, and if you have a monitor already, setting yourself up with a latest-generation Mac Mini is a breeze. It supports the latest Thunderbolt ports, so you can connect all your accessories, no matter what connector they use, and utilize them at full speed.

This mini PC is understated and very trim too, so you can slot it into a desk or even between a few books on a shelf — just be sure it has enough airflow to stay cool during operation.

Beelink U59 Mini PC

Best budget mini pc.

For a super-compact system with enough performance to outstrip any stick PC, the Beelink U59 does a great job. It's very affordable, costing not much more than you would pay if you just slapped together a Raspberry Pi box, but with the power of a real Intel x86 CPU with four cores. It's not going to play the latest AAA games, but as a home media server, CAD box, Zoom machine, download server, or anything else that doesn't run high-end applications, it's perfect.

It comes with Ethernet, HDMI, and USB ports built-in, so there are plenty of connection options for accessories and local networking. You can also connect over Bluetooth 4.0, or Wi-Fi 5. These aren't cutting-edge features, but they're the kind of bare-bones connectivity options that make this a fully functioning mini PC. It's vastly cheaper and more capable than most budget laptops too, so if you have a screen you can plug this into and just need a little system for the basics, the Beelink U59 is a great choice.

Apple Mac Studio

The Mac Studio M2 Ultra is Apple's flagship miniature desktop computer, and though it isn't as diminutive as the Mac Mini, it's vastly more powerful. Featuring the high-end M2 Ultra processor with a massive 60-core GPU, this is the system for those who need incredible performance in a desktop machine that has a miniature footprint. This system can rival even the much larger M2 Mac Pro in a much more compact design.

Despite all that power, this system performs incredibly quietly. The fans barely spin up even when it's working hard thanks to the impressive efficiency of Apple's M2 silicon. It also comes with a great port selection, including multiple Thunderbolt 4 connectors, a pair of traditional USB-A ports, an HDMI output, a headphone jack, and support for 10 Gigabit Ethernet. If you prefer wireless, there's Wi-Fi 6E support, as well as Bluetooth 5.3 for connecting all your wireless accessories.

This is the ultimate system for heavy multitaskers. This system can support as many as three 8K displays simultaneously, or up to eight 4K displays. If you've always wanted to sit in front of a huge bank of monitors, this is the PC to do it with.

Lenovo Ideacentre mini desktop

The Lenovo Ideacentre mini dekstop packs ATX-size desktop power into a chassis that's just an inch-and-a-half thick. It has a Core i7-13700H CPU ,which brings a staggering 14-cores to the compact mini PC market. Combine that with 16GB of DDR4 memory and a half a terabyte of SSD space, and you have a snappy and responsive system that's perfectly suited for running demanding office applications.

This is effectively a Mac Mini PC for Windows users. It's the same style of super-compact, understated, highly connective computer, but with Windows 11 loaded up instead of MacOS. It's clean and professional, with an array of USB-A, USB-C, HDMI, DisplayPort, and Thunderbolt ports. There's Gigabit Ethernet and Wi-Fi 6 for fast networking too.

There's no dedicated GPU, so this isn't great for gaming or 3D design work, but for everything else, this mini PC is one of the best.

Intel NUC Pro 13

It's completely free of fans, so it operates silently even when you're pushing it, and it has a great number of connection options and ports. There's Thunderbolt 4, USB-A, a headphone jack, and a pair of HDMI 2.1 ports for 4K monitor outputs. It supports up to 7.1 channel audio, and it has Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2. This is a mini PC that has it all outside of a big GPU.

However, mini PCs are also a strong choice if you want to save money on something simpler than the standard desktop PC. This requires a compromise on specs like storage and RAM, though.

Since mini PCs can vary significantly, start by thinking about your needs. Do you need something that can mimic a traditional desktop PC at work? Do you need compatibility with Apple devices? Do you want to save money and focus on portability?

These devices are amazing for outdoor movie sessions, and the best portable projectors are easy to set up, have bright output, and can be used in any room of your house are great in the outdoors (or at least  your  great outdoors). The best mini projectors on the market today also feature a bevy of connectivity options, like Bluetooth , HDMI and Wi-Fi . Not to mention, they typically run on batteries. Most portable projectors come ready to stream  Netflix , Hulu , Disney Plus , Amazon Prime Video and other streaming services without needing a connection to a laptop or  streaming device .

All this being said, portable projectors do come with a variety of  drawbacks . For one, many small projectors lack the brightness of a traditional  home theater projector . The picture can end up looking dim since they can't project as large an image as the big guys. Secondly, most portable projectors, specifically the cheapest ones, often feature lower resolution than their larger peers, especially 4K projectors . Since they mostly run on batteries, if you're going to be near an outlet, a standard projector will get you a much brighter, bigger and better image for your dollar. Best mini portable projector overall

Anker nebula mars ii pro.

The Mars II Pro is our favorite portable projector here due to its light output, overall image quality, ease of use and affordable price. This mobile device is a bit bigger than most other portable projectors here, but still small enough to hide completely under a six-pack of Coke.

The built-in 12,500-mAh battery is good for about three-and-a-half hours, longer if you just run it as a Bluetooth speaker. There are apps built-in, some of which consider the Mars II a portable device, meaning you can download content to its 8GB internal memory for offline watching. The faux leather strap also makes carrying the outdoor projector around super easy.

Best budget portable projector with a battery

I like the top projector better but the AAXA P6X is my pick when money is tight. Not only is it less expensive than the Anker above, but it's also brighter with superior battery life. This mini projector fits in my hand, creates a 720p image, and has a huge 15,000-mAh battery. An HDMI input and USB connection lets you connect and power a streaming stick . The stick connection is important because the AAXA lacks built-in apps. 

Light output is impressive for its size and price, about 50% more than the Anker Mars II Pro, although its contrast ratio is a bit less. The internal battery should last around 90 minutes in the mini projector's brightest mode, and an impressive 240 minutes in Eco mode -- probably a little less if you're also powering a streaming stick. The internal speaker isn't great, but there's a headphone jack you can connect to a portable speaker.

Best 1080p portable projector

Xgimi halo plus.

The Xgimi Halo Plus is a little large to truly be considered "mini," but it is fairly small. "Easily portable" is probably a more accurate description. It projects a 1080p picture and has a two-and-a-half-hour battery. It has Android TV built-in, so streaming is far easier than with many other portables. It performs far better than most mini projectors, but it's also way bigger and costs a lot more.

Best cheap mini portable projector

Unlike many of the other projectors on this list, the AAXA P8 can't run on a battery -- you need to plug in its power adapter -- but it's so small, bright and cheap that it makes the list anyway. There are certainly less expensive projectors out there, but nothing we've seen at this price or lower, except the Vimgo P10, is worth recommending. 

The P8 is tiny, with roughly the same overall volume as the Anker Capsule (which does have a battery), although rectangular instead of cylindrical. It's significantly brighter than the Capsule. It even has a few streaming apps built in, plus an HDMI port for connecting an external source. The image quality is OK but for the size, price and relatively high light output, it's hard to knock it.

The Anker Nebula Capsule is smaller than a can of soda but can create a big image. Well, maybe not "big," but "TV-sized" certainly. It's not particularly bright or loud, but for something that can fit in your pocket, it's great. The other options here offer a far brighter, better image, but if size is your main concern, the Capsule looks better than you'd expect for its price and stature.

Best cheap projector runner-up

The Vimgo P10's price fluctuates between $140 and $270, in the same ballpark as our favorite cheap projector, the AAXA P8. It's a lot larger than the P8, the largest cheap projector we've tested actually, making it far less portable. It's still "small" compared to full-size and more expensive projectors, however. 

Picture quality is better than the P8 in some ways and worse in others. The Vimgo P10 has a great contrast ratio and decent brightness, but the color is remarkably terrible. The center of the image is noticeably sharper and brighter than the rest of the image. It's not great, but the price is.

A perfectly watchable image, and right now you can pick it up for $140. Plus, it even has Netflix built in. The main downside is that, like the P8, it lacks a battery.

Other portable projectors we've tested

Anker Nebula Solar Portable : We didn't like the Solar Portable as much as the BenQ GS50, Xgimi Halo Plus or even its sibling, the Mars II Pro. Its main disadvantage compared to others on this list is its relatively dim image, which means it can't project as large a picture and still look good. BenQ GS50 : The GS50 is roughly the same size as the Xgimi Halo Plus, and is also 1080p and has a built-in battery. You can even use it as a Bluetooth speaker. It's dimmer than the Xgimi Halo Plus for similar money. Read our BenQ GS50 review .

LG CineBeam PH30N : The LG PH30N is tiny even compared to other portable projectors, even smaller than the AAXA. It's not particularly bright, nor does it have built-in apps. The battery doesn't last as long as the AAXA either, although it's a bit cheaper. Read our LG CineBeam PH30N review .

Samsung Freestyle : The small, cylindrical Freestyle is an interesting idea, but it comes up short. About the size of a Bluetooth speaker, and can double as one, the Freestyle can pivot on its stand to project an image at any height on walls and even the ceiling. Its built-in streaming is far better implemented than most portable projectors. It lacks a battery and its performance is average, at best. Xiaomi Mi Smart Projector 2 : Another relatively expensive small projector we didn't love, the Xiaomi at least has a gorgeous, Apple-like design going for it. We appreciated the compact size, 1080p resolution and built-in Android TV streaming, but the cons outweigh the pros. It's relatively dim, especially for the price, and it lacks both a built-in battery and compatibility with a USB power source, so it's not truly portable. Anker Nebula Cosmos Laser 4K : Since it has a handle and a compact size, the Cosmos Laser 4K is technically portable, but it's hardly mini at more than 10 pounds. There's also no battery so you'll need to plug it in. BenQ HT2050A : The HT2050 isn't technically a portable projector at all, but it is compact and roughly the same price as one of the more expensive "portable" options. Its picture is also much better in pretty much every way, so if you're looking for a projector for use around the home, or maybe backyard, and you don't need battery power, it's worth considering. What makes a mini projector different from a full-size projector.

The biggest difference is light output. Traditional, full-size projectors can get much brighter than any portable mini projector. Most portable projectors use an LED lamp, while full-size projectors have either UHP lamps (which are effectively high-powered light bulbs) or laser light sources. Projector light output is measured in lumens. The brightest portable projectors we've reviewed measure about 350 lumens, while a traditional home theater projector measures 1,500 lumens or more. 

A bright projector can produce a larger image and look better when there's some ambient light around. For that reason, dimmer portable projectors are best enjoyed with smaller images and in as dark an environment as possible.

Beyond brightness, mini projectors are much smaller (of course), can run on battery power and usually include built-in streaming and decent speakers. Traditional projectors have more lens adjustments, including focus, zoom and lens shift, and can run louder. 

Are all mini projectors portable?

In the sense that you can take them with you places, yes, but some are more or less portable than others. Mini projectors range in size from absolutely tiny pico projectors like the AAXA P8 to models like the Anker Nebula Cosmos 4K that does have a handle, and is billed as "outdoor," but is expensive, heavy (10.7 pounds) and would require a big backpack to lug around. Many portable projectors have batteries but some, especially cheap models, do not.

Does a mini projector have to be plugged in?

It depends. Many portable projectors have built-in batteries that can run for two or three hours before needing to be plugged in. Some can also attach to external USB battery packs that allow them to be run without plug-in power. On the other hand, many smaller portable projectors, especially cheaper ones, don't include a built-in battery or work with battery packs. They will need to be plugged in to work.

Can you watch Netflix on a portable projector?

Yes. Many mini projectors have built-in streaming that allows them to show Netflix and other streaming services when connected via Wi-Fi. For projectors that don't have built-in streaming, you'll need to connect another streaming device , like a Roku or Fire TV Stick, to the projector's HDMI input to stream Netflix and other services.

If you are a small-to-medium-sized business, and need a projector for holding presentations in small rooms, then the ViewSonic PA503S is a brilliant choice. 

While its 800 x 600 SVGA resolution falls short of full HD, it is enough to display vibrant images, reports, and spreadsheets on a wall or projection screen. It's got plenty of inputs, is easy to use, and is nice and bright as well.

It also comes with a SuperEco mode that dims the brightness by up to 70%. This makes it more energy efficient (and therefore cheaper to run), while also prolonging the life of the bulb.

The PA503S has a contrast ratio of 22,000:1, and it is bright — 3800 ANSI lumens of brightness will ensure you see the details clearly even in spaces with plenty of ambient light.

2. Optoma ML750e

The ML750e by Optoma may not be the smallest projector we're talking about here, but it's a lot more powerful than the pocket-sized PicoPix from Phillips. It weighs in at an ultraportable 380g with a small footprint that makes this easy to carry around. The differences in size between this and the PicoPix are negligible for the power you get in return: a 700 Lumens lamp that lets you present in rooms that aren't completely darkened.

Not only is it port-rich with one MHL-ready HDMI input, a USB 2.0 slot for thumbdrives, a universal I/O slot, and a microSD card slot, but the ML550 handled our 90-inch test screen with impressive results, and peaked at a 60-inch-or-so size. 

Much like the ViewSonic PLED-W800, though, the ML750e had us grumbling because you need to buy a dongle for Wi-Fi access. which felt as arcane at the time of this projector's release as it does today. And in another moment that felt anachronistic, there is no way to work with the projector via a smartphone or tablet.

Usually when you choose a portable business projector you have to make a few sacrifices in order to have such a small device – but that's not the case with the Epson EB-S41.

Epson has an excellent reputation with business projectors, and it has brought much of its expertise to the EB-S41. Its 3,300 lumen brightness is much brighter than many other portable projectors , and means you have more flexibility when setting up the EB-S31 in environments where there is still ambient light.

The EB-S41 is small and light enough to carry around with you on business trips, but it also has a very large projection size – up to 300 inches – which makes this an incredibly versatile portable business projector.

The projector has a lifetime of around 12,000 hours, so with moderate use, you can expect it to last you up to 15 years.

Some projector were meant to be portable – and few do it better than the Anker Nebula Capsule II Mini Projector.

About the size and shape of a can of Coca Cola, the Capsule II is very capable for its size, offering a 720p (HD) resolution and strong audio output – and a noticeable improvement on 2018's Anker Nebula Mars II . Its small size makes it a great choice for offices and board rooms where space is at a premium.

Given its size, we were pleasantly surprised to find a fully-sized HMDI port, too, rather than the mini-HDMI alternative – as well as a USB port and USB-C charging port, allowing you to power the projector while connecting to a streaming stick like the Roku Express or Amazon Fire TV Stick .

There's also 3,600 apps to make use of, all pre-built into the Android TV smart platform. However, given some tricky certification issues around Netflix, you won't get the biggest TV streaming service on there unless you connect and external device to do it for you.

For portability, you need a projector that’s both small and light. The projectors on our list all fit into this category and can fit in any backpack. As long you’re not carrying around a 20-pound projector with you, you shouldn’t have an issue setting up a presentation wherever.  

2.    Brightness/Lumens 

Basically, the brighter the projector, the better it is. This allows you to make presentations even when the ambient lighting is quite intense. Brightness is measured in lumens with about 500 lumens the minimum we can recommend.

Ayaneo's gaming nostalgia hits with wave of new retro-inspired consoles

• Ayaneo's new Remake collection offers nostalgic retro gaming devices with modern hardware, like the Pocket DMG and Pocket Micro.

Retro video game culture is alive and well. Old-school Game Boys are never for sale for long, and some gamers still regularly reach for their Nintendo DS to enjoy a blast from the past.

Ayaneo, a brand known for its PC builds that's also established quite the handheld collection over the years, is leaning into the retro craze. Last week, it finally released details on new devices in its Remake collection, all tailored to the retro gaming aesthetic but with some modern hardware under the hood. According to a recent post, those devices include the Pocket DMG, the Pocket Micro, the Starship Graphics Dock AG01, and Retro Mini PC AM01S, along with a new version of the popular Pocket Air handheld.

The Pocket DMG is a familiar vertical handheld design

With a D-pad and joystick on the left, ABXY keys on the right, and a square display, the Pocket DMG is incredibly nostalgic for another vertical handheld from a different era. With this handy little handheld, you'll be able to emulate your favorite 8-bit titles on a 419 PPI OLED screen.

Ayaneo also packed the Snapdragon G3x Gen 2 chipset into its new retro handheld, establishing highly efficient cooling performance. Just know that the cooling vent looks to be on the bottom of the handheld, right where your palm would likely rest.

The Pocket Micro is clunky and chunky in a beautifully retro way

Ayaneo's new Pocket Micro is easily one of the nicest-looking horizontal retro gaming handhelds we've ever seen. Its aesthetic may mimic a certain micro Nintendo handheld, and a closer look reveals that the Micro actually boasts a sturdy aluminum frame and stretch-free full-screen display. With its 960x640 resolution, the Micro is expected to be an excellent emulator for 4X Game Boy Advance titles, like Master of Orion .

The controls of the Pocket Micro follow a familiar layout, with a D-pad, two joysticks, and ABXY keys, but the joysticks are on the same horizontal level instead of diagonally arranged like they are on many handhelds, including from Ayaneo. While the Pocket Micro looks super compact, a powerful processor, the Helio G99, hides under the hood, ensuring you'll get to enjoy every pixel of your pixel-y retro favorites.

Ayaneo's second retro mini PC is compact and cute

The Retro Mini PC AM01S is a new-and-improved version of the Retro Mini PC AM01. The display uniquely sits at multiple angles and can act as a digital clock or readout of important performance metrics.

The chunky white plastic exterior may make the Retro Mini PC AM01S look like something you'd pick up at a garage sale, but don't be fooled. Under the hood, we have an AMD Ryzen 8000HS engine — it looks like the mini PC will come in two tiers, one with the Ryzen 7 8845HS and one with the Ryzen 9 8945HS, two decent processors commonly used in laptops— and dual-fan cooling.

The Starship Graphics Dock AG01 looks like something Captain Picard left behind

If you think this graphics dock looks like a Star Trek x Ayaneo collab, that's exactly the point. Catering to an aesthetic that Ayaneo refers to as sci-fi romance, the Starship Graphics Dock AG01 combines subtle gaming visuals like RGB lighting with a classic futuristic (or, at least, what futuristic looked like circa 1980) visual appeal.

This is Ayaneo's first-ever graphics dock and comes loaded with the AMD Radeon RX 7600M XT. This upper-midrange mobile graphics card amplifies the performance of gaming laptops and handhelds. You can even toss in a couple of M.2 storage chips—no tools necessary. Ayaneo says the Starship Graphics Dock will be initially available in nebula red and interstellar gray. The brand is adopting a co-creation approach and will let fans vote on the dock's final colors.

We're still unsure of the Remake collection's pricing and release date

The new Ayaneo Remake retro collection also includes an old-school-looking mobile power bank, which supports fast charging with an output of 45W. A tiny monochrome OLED screen shows charging status and battery levels and really ties the retro look together.

While Ayaneo has announced details and concepts of the Remake collection, important information like who we give our money to, how much of it, and when still isn't available. Nvidia accelerates quantum computing centers worldwide with cuda-q platform.

HAMBURG, Germany, May 12, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- ISC -- NVIDIA today announced that it will accelerate quantum computing efforts at national supercomputing centers around the world with the open-source NVIDIA CUDA-Q™ platform .

Supercomputing sites in Germany, Japan and Poland will use the platform to power the quantum processing units (QPUs) inside their NVIDIA-accelerated high-performance computing systems.

QPUs are the brains of quantum computers that use the behavior of particles like electrons or photons to calculate differently than traditional processors, with the potential to make certain types of calculations faster.

Germany’s Jülich Supercomputing Centre (JSC) at Forschungszentrum Jülich is installing a QPU built by IQM Quantum Computers as a complement to its JUPITER supercomputer, supercharged by the NVIDIA GH200 Grace Hopper™ Superchip .

The ABCI-Q supercomputer, located at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) in Japan, is designed to advance the nation’s quantum computing initiative. Powered by the NVIDIA Hopper™ architecture, the system will add a QPU from QuEra.

Poland’s Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center (PSNC) has recently installed two photonic QPUs, built by ORCA Computing, connected to a new supercomputer partition accelerated by NVIDIA Hopper.

“Useful quantum computing will be enabled by the tight integration of quantum with GPU supercomputing,” said Tim Costa, director of quantum and HPC at NVIDIA. “NVIDIA’s quantum computing platform equips pioneers such as AIST, JSC and PSNC to push the boundaries of scientific discovery and advance the state of the art in quantum-integrated supercomputing.”

The QPU integrated with ABCI-Q will enable researchers at AIST to investigate quantum applications in AI, energy and biology, utilizing Rubidium atoms controlled by laser light as qubits to perform calculations. These are the same type of atoms used in precision atomic clocks. Each atom is identical, providing a promising method of achieving a large-scale, high-fidelity quantum processor.

“Japan’s researchers will make progress toward practical quantum computing applications with the ABCI-Q quantum-classical accelerated supercomputer,” said Masahiro Horibe, deputy director of G-QuAT/AIST. “NVIDIA is helping these pioneers push the boundaries of quantum computing research.”

PSNC’s QPUs will enable researchers to explore biology, chemistry and machine learning with two PT-1 quantum photonics systems. The systems use single photons, or packets of light, at telecom frequencies as qubits. This allows for a distributed, scalable and modular quantum architecture using standard, off-the-shelf telecom components.

“Our collaboration with ORCA and NVIDIA has allowed us to create a unique environment and build a new quantum-classical hybrid system at PSNC,” said Krzysztof Kurowski, CTO and deputy director of PSNC. “The open, easy integration and programming of multiple QPUs and GPUs efficiently managed by user-centric services is critical for developers and users. This close collaboration paves the way for a new generation of quantum-accelerated supercomputers for many innovative application areas, not tomorrow, but today.”

The QPU integrated with JUPITER will enable JSC researchers to develop quantum applications for chemical simulations and optimization problems as well as demonstrate how classical supercomputers can be accelerated by quantum computers. It is built with superconducting qubits, or electronic resonant circuits, that can be manufactured to behave as artificial atoms at low temperatures.

“Quantum computing is being brought closer by hybrid quantum-classical accelerated supercomputing,” said Kristel Michielsen, head of the quantum information processing group at JSC. “Through our ongoing collaboration with NVIDIA, JSC’s researchers will advance the fields of quantum computing as well as chemistry and material science.”

By tightly integrating quantum computers with supercomputers, CUDA-Q also enables quantum computing with AI to solve problems such as noisy qubits and develop efficient algorithms.

CUDA-Q is an open-source and QPU-agnostic quantum-classical accelerated supercomputing platform. It is used by the majority of the companies deploying QPUs and delivers  best-in-class performance .
