It feels like homework never stops getting piled on, and keeping track of it all can feel a little chaotic. That’s where a homework schedule comes in. With a good schedule, you won’t have to worry about missing homework assignments or not having enough time to finish them, and it’s surprisingly easy to put one together. Not sure where to start? Don’t worry—we’ll walk you through what to do step-by-step below!
Setting Up a Homework Schedule
Creating a Homework Space
Understanding What Needs To Get Done
- The subject or course in which the work is assigned (for example, Spanish , algebra , French or English )
- Know what you're expected to hand in or do and ask if you do not understand (for example, turn in an essay , develop a PowerPoint presentation, or take a test.)
- The details of your assignments (for example, double-spaced or single-spaced, blue ink or black).
- Page numbers (which pages you need to read, study, or refer to complete your assignment.)
- Due date of the assignment.
Getting All of Your Homework Done
- To solve this problem, if you cannot meet all the deadlines, use a static priority rate-monotonic policy. Find the course that releases new homework the most frequently, and list it the highest (do the work first), and so forth. This is mathematically optimal among all static-priority scheduling policies. In other words, if ANY static priority scheme can meet all the deadlines, the rate-monotonic static priority scheme will meet all the deadlines, too. When the static priority scheme misses deadlines, it is deterministic - the lowest priority class assignments will be skipped, so it behaves predictably when you are overloaded. If certain assignments have the same due date, then start with the one(s) that are hardest or will take the longest.
- If you have a five-page English paper due on Friday, evenly spread the total amount of hours you believe it is going to take to complete the paper between each day.

- Avoid distractions such as TV, video games, phone conversation, or surfing the internet. You must fully devote your schedule to doing this. That means turning off all electronics except your lamp , clock , and room light, and, if needed, your computer. You may even want to turn off your phone. Thanks Helpful 0 Not Helpful 0
Tips from our Readers
- Try writing reminders on sticky-notes about your assignment due dates or important information you really need to remember. Put these sticky notes in a place you regularly go to in your house (such as your homework area, bedroom, or closet), so that you'll see them and be reminded.
- If you're having a really hard time concentrating, take a short break (even if it isn't your schedule break time). Even taking a walk outside for ten minutes or grabbing a quick snack from the kitchen can help you reset.
- If music with lyrics distracts you, don't try to listen to it while you do homework. Consider playing white noise or instrumental music instead to help you focus.

Printable Homework Planners to Help Students Get Organized
This post may contain affiliate links. Please read my disclosure for more info.
If you’re a parent, you know how incredibly overwhelming it can be for students to stay on top of studying and all other homework assignments.
Especially when they’re juggling multiple classes.
Due dates can pile up quickly if they aren’t staying organized and managing their time wisely.
However, there is a tool that can be quite helpful – A printable homework planner! You’ll find a few different styles below.
Weekly homework planners
These free printables will help students plan and track all their assignments for each day of the week.
They can write down the class, a description of the homework assignment, and when it’s due. Once it’s completed it, check “done” and move on to the next!
I recommend printing a few copies at a time. Encourage your middle schooler or high schooler to keep one in their binder.
Monthly homework calendars
In addition to weekly planners , older students may benefit from a blank homework calendar as well.
It’s nice to have a bird’s-eye view of each month.
Some of these templates have extra lines below the calendar for writing down reminders and other misc. notes.
Monthly assignment and exam trackers
Some students may prefer a simple running list of what’s due each month.
With these trackers, they can write down the class, jot down a quick description of what’s due (whether it’s a basic assignment, project, or exam), and the due date.
And, of course, once the assignment is finished, they can mark done.

Alternate Name:
- Assignment Calendar.
A template can be used to construct a homework calendar that offers an organized design which students can modify to suit their requirements. These templates are made to make organizing and preparing homework easier, so that students may concentrate on their academics instead of wasting too much time on the layout.
The template has a number of benefits. It offers a standardized format and framework, which makes entering tasks and deadlines simple. The class timetable, project information, and any extra reminders or remarks can all be entered by the student. This makes it possible for individuals to develop a thorough picture of their task and to schedule their time properly. A template also enables customization, which can boost motivation and improve the calendar-using experience.
students can learn efficient time management techniques and reduce anxiety related to assignments and due dates by using the homework calendar. They can make achievable goals, order things according to importance, and use their time more effectively. Keeping an eye on the calendar helps to prevent unforeseen stress by ensuring that nothing is missed off or neglected.

How to Use Google Calendar as Your Homework Planner – Part 1
In this post, you will learn how to set up and share a Google calendar for the purpose of keeping track of homework or assignments. See Part 2 of this post to see how to set up the homework entries and reminders.
Kids lose their agenda books. They leave them in their lockers, on buses, in desks. Sometimes they just vanish without a trace. And they take with them any clue the kid had about what to do for homework.
And then there are the kids that a paper planner just doesn’t work for. Their handwriting doesn’t fit in the boxes, or they keep putting things on the wrong page, and then they are gone forever! Or they write a project or due date down, and don’t check the agenda book when it’s time to do the work. Students with dyslexia or dysgraphia might also find a paper planner challenging to use.
Turning Google Calendar into an assistive technology to help these kids is simple and helps them to build technology skills that will support them for life. I think this starts to be effective around sixth grade, if there are devices available regularly through the day, or if the child carries a smartphone.
First the child needs a Google account. Log in and choose Google Calendar from the menu of Google tools:
You will see a blank Google calendar, if you’ve never used it before.
I recommend creating a dedicated Google calendar, called “Beth’s Homework” or something similar to keep all the homework in one place. This is a good practice because hopefully the student will use the calendar to keep track of appointments, sports practices, and important dates down the road, and this keeps all that information from becoming smushed together and overwhelming.
- Name the calendar. Mine is “Beth’s Homework.”
- Share it with others. Type an email address, and choose from the dropdown whether others can view only or edit (including adding and deleting) events.
- Click “Create Calendar” at the bottom of the screen.
Tune in tomorrow to learn how to set up repeating events and color coding to make it look like a student agenda book . I’ll also show you how to edit the events to record the day’s assignments.

You’d agree that organizing and planning goes a long way. I did the research and shortlisted the perfect homework planner apps for Android and iOS. Let’s check those out.

Homework Planner Apps for Students
1. student planner- homework agenda & notes.
The first app on the list is a simple homework and notes management app. It keeps track of homework, assignments, projects, and to-do lists. The layout is minimal, all the tasks are neatly organized with a colored bookmark for easy identification. You can mark a task complete and remove it from the pending list.
Courses can be added easily and color-coded as well. The calendar shows any upcoming deadlines so you can prioritize accordingly. The tasks have a progress bar that you can adjust as you make progress which enables you to get a quick summary without actually opening every task.
You can also break your assignments in small chunks as subtasks that would make finishing a task much easier and the progress bar will fill automatically. It also allows you to attach media files to your assignments or projects for easy access to the important information in one place.
- Progress bar
- Deadline Reminders
- Calendar View
- No option to sync data to the cloud
Student Planner is a great app for all the students, it has all the necessary features like Deadline reminders, subtasks, progress bar, color-coded tasks, and courses. It can significantly increase your productivity when used regularly. You can get this app for free in the Play Store.
Install Student Planner- Homework Agenda ( Android )
2. Student Planner
Student Planner is another fast and simple homework management app which is wrapped by a beautiful and intuitive material designed UI. What Student Planner adds to the table is the inclusion of a schedule or time table which you can use to either store your class schedule or it might even be a study schedule for your exams.
You first start by adding your subject and the schedule then you can add an assignment or set a reminder. The due assignments are arranged as separate cards and can be swiped away once done with.
- Simple and easy to get started with
- Fast and small in size
- Beautiful Minimal UI
- Option for Schedule
- No sync/backup
- Timetable implementation not perfect
I would recommend this app to anyone who is looking for a simple homework management app with timetable support and a minimal UI.
Install Student Planner ( Android )
Egenda is simple. Open the app, add all the classes or subjects to the app, and once that is set up, you have the option of adding a new Homework, Quiz, Project, or Test and choose the respective subject deadlines. The app also arranges the due work in cards that can be swiped away when done. But what I love the most about this app is that the fact it allows you to go subject-wise and view all your upcoming tests, projects, or pending assignments which is a huge convenience for planning your schedule ahead of time instead of the previous day.
Unfortunately, the app doesn’t have a timetable option, but in its latest update, it added a Calendar View where you can see your whole month at a glance with your assignments, tests, and projects.
- Subject-wise sorting
- Calendar View
- No timetable support
Egenda provides some great tools for Homework and Test planning and I am sure anyone would find them extremely convenient and useful. But keeping its single con in mind, go for this app if you are not too keen on having a schedule or timetable.
Install Egenda ( Android | iOS )
4. ChalkBoard
The next app on our list is ChalkBoard, which I found out to be a pretty smart homework planner app. Chalkboard strikes a perfect balance between simplicity and features.
Although the setup process is a little longer than the previous three apps, as you have to feed meticulous details about the classes, teacher, and schedule. It is worth the effort.
On the home screen, you are shown upcoming classes, events tab, and upcoming tests. ChalkBoard fetches the dates for every subject from the Timetable for your future classes. Little features like these make the app stand out from the rest and give an overall great experience. You can also view classes and assignments subject wise.
- Proper Timetable
- Ability to add teachers for subjects
- View tomorrow’s classes as well as assignments/tests/quizzes
- Smart features
- Little longer to set up
- No calendar view
If you are looking for a homework planner as well as a school planner, Chalkboard is the app as it strikes a great ground with almost all the features one might need while not being too bulky.
Install ChalkBoard ( Android )
5. School Planner
School Planner is a full-fledged planning application designed for students to manage their career as a student. Along with your homework and timetables, School Planner offers you to keep track of your grades and attendance, add contacts for teachers, add recorded lectures, and even multiple planners.
The app supports backing up of all your data via Google Drive, Calendar View along with a weekly report, attaching snapshots to your assignment reminders, student accounts from ClassViva, and a lot more. In spite of so many features, the app doesn’t feel slow at all and delivers a powerful performance with its beautiful design.
- Full-fledged student companion
- Feature-packed and free
- Supports sync and backup
- Widget Support
- Tedious setup procedure
- Big in size
- Complex, not so smooth learning curve
While it is not for someone who is looking for a fast and easy way into homework management, School Planner is a great student companion app and serious students will surely get the most out of hit.
Install School Planner ( Android )
6. My Study Life
My Study Life comes with its own web app and syncs with the Android app, essentially making your data accessible from any device as long as it has a browser.
It implements a goal-centric circular tracker that shows your progress. The Calendar view combines your timetable, deadlines, and shows all your classes and assignments, projects in a single place.
- Refreshingly new UI
- Access from anywhere through its web app
- Sync and Backup
- Lengthy setup process
If you study from your computer or laptop, My Study Life makes it easy to access your homework planner on your phone from your computer, while not compromising on features and being completely free. What more can you ask for?
Install My Study Life ( Android | iOS )
7. iStudiez Pro
Like School Planner, iStudiez Pro includes grading and subject wise organization of tasks. iStudiez Pro takes it further with the integration of Google Calendar that allows you to directly get all your holidays, exam schedule, routine from Google Calendar itself.
It also offers separate apps on all platforms including iOS, Mac, and Windows. All the apps sync seamlessly between themselves, so studying on your computer consulting your planner won’t be an issue.
- Google Calendar Integration
- Cross-Platform
- Cumulative Price
If Google Calendar integration and cross-platform support is a must for you, iStudiez Pro is definitely the app you want.
Install iStudiez Pro ( Android | iOS )

Homework Planner Template
The best thing I can say about this homework planner is that my own kids like it enough to want me to print a copy for them each week. The design for this planner came from a mash-up of the techniques that my brother and I used in college to organize our time. I've refined the design based on feedback from my kids (one high-schooler and two home-schoolers).
How It Works : This planner combines two very useful tools for keeping track of your homework assignments, both on a single page. First, on the left is a homework check list for each of your classes. Use it to list the assignments, due dates, and the estimated time to complete each assignment. List upcoming exams and plan times to study. Second, on the right side you can plan your week to figure out how you will get everything done.
Printable Homework Planners
The following PDF files can be printed as needed. The main difference is in the weekly schedule because high-schoolers and home-schoolers tend to do their homework at different times of the day.
License : Private Use (not for distribution or resale)
Authors: Jon Wittwer and Jim Wittwer
Description
This spreadsheet includes two separate worksheets with slightly different designs. The Homeschool design doesn't include the "time" column because we found it wasn't as critical to predict how much time a particular assignment would take. However, for high school and college, estimating the time to complete each assignment can be extremely helpful.
We designed it so that you can either print blank copies of the planner, or edit it electronically. You may be able to store and edit this planner on your mobile device if you are using Excel for iPad/iPhone or Google Sheets.
Tips for Students:
1. Customize the template: Using Excel or Word, enter your class names on the left and your typical weekly schedule. For example, use the schedule to highlight the times for each of your classes, your extracurricular activities, part-time jobs, etc.
2. Print blank copies: After customizing the template, you can print as many of these planner pages as you need, and you won't need to enter your typical weekly schedule each time.
3. Don't forget incomplete assignments: When switching to a new page each week, don't forget to go through your list of assignments and transfer the incomplete assignments to the new page.
4. Don't lose it: Keep your planner page in a folder that you always have with you. If you are worried about misplacing it, try taking a picture of it with your phone as a backup.
5. Use a mobile app: If you have a phone with the Excel or Word app or Google Docs app, and you are allowed to use a mobile device in school, you could try going paperless and editing the template on your phone. You could also try using one of the many "student planner" or "homework planner" mobile apps. The problem with this approach is that phones can be a huge distraction. If you are obsessed with Instagram or texting, it may be better to avoid using your phone if you want to get anything done.
Note to Teachers:
You are welcome to print copies of this planner to give to your students. The worksheet is pretty intuitive, but don't assume that students will know how to use it. Teach them about managing their time and help them learn how a planner can help.
One important thing that you can do to help your students is to give them a realistic estimate of how much time each assignment will take. If you get a lot of students complaining that an assignment took longer than you said, either cut back the work (if it was excessive), or use the feedback to give a better estimate next time around.

The UK’s No.1 Online Homework Solution for Schools.
Show My Homework (SMHW) is an easy-to-use online calendar software that enables schools to effectively track and monitor homework. Created by a former Assistant Headteacher, Naimish Gohil, who wanted to create a system that would make the lives of teachers easier, where they wouldn’t have to spend hours tracking and monitoring homework, putting homework online and where colleagues, students and their parents would be able to see that homework has been set and what the assignments are.
Key SMHW benefits for:
Schools/Teachers
- Complete homework transparency and consistency.
- Generate concise homework reports with statistics available by year, subject, teacher and class.
- Reduce workload by planning and issuing homework in advance.
- Save valuable time by reusing your own or colleagues’ previously set homework.
- All homework resources, details and deadlines clearly displayed.
- A visual calendar and a to-do list makes prioritisation and organisation easy.
- Absent, SEN and EAL pupils can take part in home-learning and not fall behind.
- 24-7-365 access – no login required.
- Access to all homework details, deadlines and resources.
- Informed and engaged every step of the way.
- Equipped and ready for parents’ evening.
- No login required – anytime, anywhere access.

Description
Thanks for purchasing this full school year of homework calendars! These are NO PREP and printable for teacher ease. These are not your typical homework calendars because they are meant to be FUN! Research is showing that traditional homework may not beneficial for students. What kids need is to get outside, play, and build positive relationships. This calendar does just that! Plus they're completely EDITABLE!
These homework calendars focus on building relationships, igniting creativity and helping others. Instead of comprehension questions and math problems students are asked to do things like play a board game, write a gratitude list, do an act of service for someone, or go a whole day without screens.
Students won't complain about this homework, and parents/guardians won't be frustrated with the nightly frustrated homework session. This download includes an undated monthly calendar for September-May. Each month includes 20 activities! Also included is a Summer Bucket List that can be sent home for the Summer months!
- 3 different no prep, printable options for each month of calendars. These included reading/non reading options to go with the calendar activities. Each calendar is undated and includes 20 activities that can be done throughout the month.
-Holiday additions for the month of December including a December Black Out and Snowflake Read-A-Thon.
-Summer Bucket List Printable
-September-May calendars are now completely EDITABLE. Please note that due to font copyright the editable versions are all standard font and you will need to download and change fonts to personal preference.
How I Use These in My Classroom:
On the first day of each month my students CHEER when I give them their new homework calendar. Throughout the month students complete activities as well as track their reading (optional.) On the last day of the month students turn their calendar in to me. Any students who have completed 10 activities or more get to share their favorite activity from the month at our Morning Meeting!
