SAGE Research Methods is a cross-disciplinary research methods tool designed to support the learning of research methodology.

► The tool provides easy access to SAGE books, dictionaries, encyclopedias, handbooks, journal articles, sample datasets, case studies, and videos related to research methodology.

► It supports every step of the research process, from designing research projects (using Project Planner), understanding particular research methods (using Methods Map), conducting research, performing a literature review, to writing up research findings.

DataHub is a comprehensive repository for research data and other forms of scholarly outputs. This cloud platform can store, cite, share, and discover research data and all scholarly outputs in one go. Besides, it collects, preserves, and provides stable, long-term global open access to a wide range of research data and scholarly outputs created by HKU researchers and RPG students in the course of their research and teaching.

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

The University offers 3-year and 4-year PhD programmes. Applicants who have a good Bachelor’s degree with honours and/or a taught Master’s degree will be considered for admission to a 4-year PhD programme, whereas those who already hold a research Master’s degree (e.g. MPhil) will only be considered for admission to a 3-year PhD programme. PhD programmes are offered in full-time and part-time modes and the periods of study are as follows:

Graduation Ceremony

Candidates for 4-year PhD programme will be required to follow an approved course of study and research, including coursework on discipline-specific knowledge, language and research skills. The coursework component is well designed to equip students for their research work and thesis writing. Candidates for 3-year PhD programme may also be required to take courses and satisfy coursework requirements. Please click  here   for details of the coursework requirements. 

A successful PhD thesis should represent the result of the candidate's research which should be an original contribution to knowledge and worthy of publication.  Please refer to the Handbook for MPhil & PhD Programmes  for details of the regulations for PhD degree.

Master of Social Sciences in the field of Clinical Psychology

Faculty of Social Sciences

The Master of Social Sciences in the field of Clinical Psychology [MSocSc(Clinical Psychology)] programme is designed to train professional clinical psychologists in serving the community. Graduates will be equipped with the requisite knowledge and skills to become competent scientist-practitioners in the clinical psychology profession. Training components of the programme involve coursework, research dissertation, and practicum in various placement settings.

1. A Bachelor's degree with a major in psychology or an equivalent qualification;

2. Candidates shall have demonstrated empirical research experience in the form of dissertation completed in the Bachelor's degree programme or another equivalent programme in psychology, or first authorship in published journal article;

3. Candidates shall be eligible for the Graduate Membership of the Hong Kong Psychological Society;

4. Candidates shall preferably have relevant working experience; and

5. Candidates shall satisfy the examiners in a qualifying examination if required.

Program Overview

The Ph.D. in educational psychology & research at the University of Kansas offers doctoral students two unique program specialization areas of emphasis. The Development & Learning (D&L) area of emphasis prepares students for work as research scientists in education psychology. The Research, Evaluation, Measurement, and Statistics (REMS) area of emphasis prepares graduate students for careers in quantitative methodologies. Students develop their own research agenda around a relevant topic in collaboration with faculty.

Career Outcomes in Educational Psychology & Research

Students pursue the Ph.D. in educational psychology & research at KU with varying career goals in mind. Graduates of the Development & Learning (D&L) area of emphasis work in a variety of settings, but most commonly seek faculty positions in higher education. The Research, Evaluation, Measurement, and Statistics (REMS) area of emphasis prepares students to apply the best and most current knowledge of research methods, program evaluation, classroom assessment, measure development, and statistics.
