Short Speech on Mothers for Mother’s Day | 1 Minute

If an angel asks me to make a wish, I would make a wish for good health and prosperity for another Angel on earth and that is my mother. If I am not wrong you would also do the same.

Greetings to everyone gathered here. I (your name) cordially welcome all of you & want to pay you thanks for having me a chance to speak in front of you.

Did you know? The word “ Mother ” is derived from the Sanskrit word “ maatri ” which means a woman who gives birth & a mother is the most influential character in everyone’s life. She is our first well-wisher, our first teacher, and also our first friend. She has to awake many nights just for taking care of her child.

Today I want to say a few words to my mother-“Dear mom, you made me the luckiest person in the world by being my mother. I can not repay you what you did for me. I just want to express my love to you. You’re the woman that has sacrificed all her life just to build mine”.

Thank you, Mom. Love you, Mom.

Emotional Speech on Mothers | 2 MInutes

Hello and welcome to all the people present here. Before I start my speech on mothers, I would like to wish you a Happy mothers Day. Also, I want to thank you for having me this valuable opportunity.

As you know I am here to speak a few words about mothers but the fact is; “No matter how much effort is made, it is impossible to define the word “Mother” in available words in the world”. A mother sacrifices her days and nights for her children’s happiness and to satisfy their needs.

I assure you, you will be running out of energy if you put yourself into the shoes of your mother. Then you will realize the actual workload that she has to deal with. After, you will question yourself,” how does my mother manage all that?”. And you will result in respecting her more intensely than ever.

Her love is unalloyed (unmixed). Those who have not experienced a mother’s affection are unfortunate. She loves their child with no expectations in return. Sorry to fathers but fathers can’t establish a connection with their child-like mothers does.

At last, I want to say a few words dedicated to my mother; “Dear mom, whatever I am today is because I have you. You taught me to be myself even during hard times. I wish you nothing more than fulfillment and happiness”

Thank you for always being my defence, fortress, and shield. Your love has been the pillow I rest on during the hard times, I can’t afford to repay you. Love you, Mom.

Heart touching Speech on Mothers | 4 Minutes

I cordially welcome all of you gathered here. I am here to deliver a speech on mothers. Before I start my speech, I would like to wish you a Happy mothers Day. Also, I want to thank you for having me this valuable opportunity.

In philosophy, it is said that when God found it tough to protect the whole world, he made mothers. A mother is a beautiful gem in everyone’s life and can not be replaced by anyone else. She is the one who takes care of us in our childhood, encourages us in our teenage, and supports us in our hard times.

When we were kids and could not be able to help ourselves, she took care of us and devoted her days and nights to the sake of our comfort. But, Today we are mature enough to take responsibility. Now we must serve our Mother with love.

Irrespective of what the condition is, you will always find your mother standing by you. She is our first well-wisher, our first teacher, and also our first friend. She will take care of you at every age. The connection she shares with her child, can’t be established with anyone else in the world.

There is no doubt that a mother’s love is very outstanding and hard to find anywhere else. This is unique because a mother perceives her child as her part. This attachment is very sensitive as a mother can sense your situations and feelings from a long distance.

One thing is crystal clear we cannot repay her favours but we should try to get her free from all her responsibilities at least once a week. What does she expect from us other than respect? So we need to respect her cordially. We must always try to keep her happy and relaxed.

Mothers are a great invention of God. All the mothers on the planet, be humans, animals, or any other species, are greatly appreciable. They are a combination of love, strength, and limitless courage. I am very thankful to God for blessing me with my mother.

At last, I want to dedicate some of my words to my mother; “my angel, my strength and my supermom. For replacing my shame with boldness, my sadness with happiness and my fear with courage, thank you.

Even after all these years, you are the most gorgeous and kindest woman I know. No wonder you don’t age. I’m so glad to be called your son. Looking at you reminds me that not all angels have wings and not all Superheroes wear special costumes. You have been my guardian angel from the first day and I love you, forevermore”.

Love you, Love you, Love you, My mother.

3 minutes speech on my mother.

In today’s world which is full of competition, you will find only one person who will always wish the best for you, your mother. She is someone who only wants what’s best for her child and will never break their trust. Growing up, we never have many friends, but a mother becomes our first friend. We can share everything with her and trust her to keep our secrets. Moreover, she always gives us confidence because of her support. No matter how old one gets, they never stop needing their mother. You can have all the friends and relatives in the world, but no one can take the place of a mother.

My Mother Speech

My First Friend and Teacher

Everyone loves spending time with their friends, it is because we can share everything with them. Most importantly, they never judge us for anything. Similarly, my first friend is my mother. When I knew no one in this world, she was the one I felt the bond with from the moment I opened my eyes. In fact, she is also my first teacher in addition to being a friend. She has always guided me on the right path and promises to do so till the very end.

The first mentor I ever got in my life was my mother. After all, she is the one who taught me how to walk, talk, and eat and everything that I can do today. She has helped me know the difference between right and wrong.

The first person who explained to me about life and protected me from harm’s way. Moreover, she prepared me for the future and the problems that might arise.

Other than that, she is the only person who understood what I meant when I couldn’t even speak. For the rest of the world, it was just baby talk, but for my mother, it was everything. She holds the power to understand me when I don’t have the words to express myself.

My Inspiration and Strength

If you ask someone who is the most inspiring person, people generally answer with great leaders and athletes and so on. But, for me, it is my mother, the biggest inspiration in my life. You learn a lot of things in life, but there are certain things that only your mother has the patience and love to teach you. She is the reason why I have all good habits. In fact, it is because of her that I know how to behave in a society.

A mother’s love can never fall short for their children. It is the most unconditional love in the entire world. I have three siblings, and she loves us all equally. Her love does not divide but only multiplies. I have never seen her be biased to my other siblings.

We know that she will always be there for us.  It is what gives me the strength to go on in this world. No matter how many mistakes I commit, I know my mother will always love me irrespective of that.

Thus, you see that my mother means everything to me. She is my friend, my teacher, my inspiration and also my strength. Even though she is one person, she plays the role of so many people in my life. Words will never do justice to what I feel for her, and I hope to become like her when I grow up.

Mother’s Day Speech In English For Students

The international celebration of Mother's Day in 2021 will take place on May 9, which is the second Sunday of the month. Mother's Day is celebrated around the world differently. American celebrate Mother's Day on March 8, whereas Indians celebrate it on the second Sunday of May. The character of a mother has been compared to that of God by some philosophers and preachers throughout history.

Mother’s Day Speech: Short Speech

The celebration of Mother's Day is one of the most popular occasions, especially for children. They celebrate their mother's love on this day. A mother is the emblem of love and she displays all the affection she has for her children selflessly. She sacrifices all her needs without the intention of getting anything in return and wants just to get the needs of her children met. Without the presence of a mother, it would not have been possible to have our own life. You can find both Long and Short Mothers Day Speech in English below.

According to Leonardo DiCaprio, "My mother is a walking miracle." This statement is very accurate. The birth of a mother occurs long before the birth of a child. Her time is not only spent growing her child, but also educating him and helping him become a productive citizen of this nation. Mothers spend their lives fulfilling the dreams of others by giving up their own dreams. It is through her music that a child and a family can be filled with colors and melody.

The Bible says that God cannot be everywhere, and so he created mothers on Earth. In addition to being a symbol of love, mothers are also fierce warriors. In order for her child to be happy, she must overcome all obstacles. Anyone who has ever been born has been taught by her, had a friend, guide, philosopher, and even had a psychologist.

The word mother is indeed small but the feelings and importance are very big. We can never repay a mother for the sacrifices she makes, and it is impossible to do so in a lifetime. Interestingly, mothers are constant sources of energy and positivity for every child, and we should feel fortunate to be able to count on them as a source of support, forever.

Mother’s Day Speech: Long Speech

Mother's Day is the time of the year when we celebrate motherhood! We find the most pleasantly surprising way to convey love to the angel of our life. The love of a mother and her existence is so pure that one should admire her every day. Mother's Day does, however, act as a reminder. A mother is the family's pillar and backbone. She proves what true love is all about by sacrificing everything and keeping everyone happy all the time. Without taking a break, she constantly works 24*7 and with a big smile on her face.

For me, my mother is the person who taught me to stand on my feet, she is a person who taught me how to learn from mistakes. She helps me without leaving any hope and without hoping for anything in return. I can leave every luxury to my mother because with my mother I feel more relaxed and peaceful. She used to wake me up during my exams when I was young to help me prepare for my tests well. My mother made endless sacrifices for my success and happiness. She is the Goddess who sacrificed her life, happiness and everything for my life.

Every mother has sacrificed for her child and is undoubtedly still sacrificing and hence, we celebrate mothers day to express our gratitude for her. Let us pray to the Almighty to always keep all mothers happy. I have a great obligation to you to listen to my speech. It was wonderful to speak in front of an audience like this.

I am delighted to present a talk on Mother's Day to all of you here today. It is indeed true that everyone's mother is the first god, philosopher, guide, and friend. The one to hold our hands and teach us to walk. She also teaches us how to communicate. In this constantly changing world, she's the only constant. Her greatness and her accomplishments cannot be adequately described in words.

It also recognizes the selfless contributions made by mothers to society and the family. During the early 20 th century, Anna Jarvis was instrumental in establishing modern Mother's Day in the United States. Anna Jarvis memorialized her mother at St Andrew's Methodist Church in Grafton, West Virginia, in 1908. In 1905, Anna Jarvis began a campaign to commemorate Mother's Day after her mother, Ann Reeves Jarvis, died. She was an activist for peace during the American Civil War. Jarvis, the then President of the United States, convinced Woodrow Wilson to make Mother's Day a national holiday in 1914.

Celebrations like this have lost the innate meaning of the holiday and are increasingly commercialized. In fact, it has lost all spiritual significance in favor of economic gain. All countries have a different date for Mother's Day in accordance with their local cultures and beliefs. In Catholic countries, Mother's Day is celebrated as Virgin Mary's Day. Bolivia celebrates Mother's Day every year on May 27 to commemorate the Battle of La Coronilla, which occurred on May 27, 1812.

She acts as the binding material that keeps the family intact and together when you are looking at her. She is a symbol of love. Keeping everyone happy, she is filled with love from her heart. Parents are known for their selflessness. Additionally, she makes many sacrifices in order to make others happy.

She represents love and care. In fact, even the gods bow their heads before her. It's not always possible for a child to express their feelings but a mother can tell just by looking into their eyes what's inside their hearts. Mothers' love is a powerful thing. It doesn't matter how much pain she is going through, or how many critics she gets, she will always be a shield for her family. The child will always have her back when times are hard.

Each day of our life is a mother's day. Nonetheless, every year on the second Saturday of May, we celebrate Mother's Day in honor of their motherhood, their sacrifices, their love and care. In this universe, there is no one who devotes their whole lives to their children and expects anything in return. All she wants is to give without expecting anything in return. Seeing her child's smile makes her happy.

There is nothing in this world that can compare to the love and care that a mother gives. Mother's love is something that cannot ever be exchanged for anything else.

In today's society, many children take for granted the love and care of their mothers. In return for all she has sacrificed in her life, they do not show her due respect and gratitude. Such behavior is completely unacceptable. She has always supported others when they needed it most. Therefore, it is both the parents' and the children's duty to stand by their loved ones when they need them most.

As the child grows and succeeds, he can thank his mother who has stayed up night and day to make his dreams come true. In a mother's life, the work of raising her child begins the moment the baby is born. She teaches you everything, from walking to eating to speaking and writing. I believe that we should all take this opportunity to give thanks and honor all the beautiful mothers across the world today. Our mothers helped shape us into what we are today by constantly supporting and guiding us. This day should be remembered in honor of our mother, the love of our lives.

In closing, I would like to express my gratitude to my mother for everything she has ever done for me. In addition, I would like to thank all of you for being here today. Thank you for the opportunity to speak with you today. Students who are talking about Mother's Day should find these speeches useful. Women gatherings or organizations that are addressing women will also benefit from them. Any organization that works to improve women's lives will benefit from them.

Happy Mother’s Day to all.

Sample Speech on Mother

Extremely warm greetings to each and everyone present here on this occasion. To stop speaking about Mothers is difficult. It surely is. This one relationship holds the most important place in everyone’s life. There is no child who doesn’t log in for his mother or can stop wanting her around. Such is her strength that she is the absolute divinity that exists in our lives. Just as Maya Angelou once said, “To describe my mother would be to write about a hurricane in its perfect power. Or the climbing, falling colours of a rainbow”, Mothers are truly magical. They are beyond words and speeches. Today, we look profoundly into motherhood and the emotions that are associated. They are unmentionable and unmatchable.

It is said that every woman has a motherly instinct and feeling that she might not recognise, but it always exists. Once she becomes a mother, she naturally grows into a protective and loving entity. She possesses powers that one normally cannot. Having a child is one of the best and unmatchable feelings for both, Mother and Father . But, in the case of Mothers, the feeling is more adorned by sacrifices, prioritising, unconditional love, and ultimate security. A woman is a lot before she becomes a mother, but when she is one, she is only a mother. For her, her earth doesn’t revolve around the sun, it revolves around her child.

The day a woman decides to become a mother she chooses pain and sacrifices. She goes through incomparable pain during the process of pregnancy. Once she gives birth, she sacrifices her nights and days to take care of the little life that once existed inside her. She always keeps working for the child. Be it washing the clothes, feeding the child, or taking tough decisions in life, she does it all for her child. A woman chooses to live that life. She can also be a little carefree and chill out a bit. However, she chooses to not do that. Mothers are like a gift from God.

There are mothers who choose to not be the exemplary mothers that exist. However, they are not any less. There is a lot to a woman and a mother that the bare eyes can notice. A child must always be grateful for the love and shadow that they can receive from their mothers. Things might be tough sometimes but a mother always stands behind to support her child. Mothers are surely worthy of appreciation for whatever they do. Hoping that every child gets to be under the shade of the breezy leaves of the love of their mother!

My Mother Speech 1

Good Evening Friends!

It’s my mother’s 70 th birthday and I am very glad that you all have made this evening all the more precious for me with your presence.

When my wife asked me to deliver a speech on my Mother, I went speechless for sometime on the thought what all to say about the lady who is nearly God to me. Like God always stands by their children visibly or virtually, my mother has always stood by me in all my decisions ever since I decided to do Fashion designing course at the age of 18. Subtly, I knew, she wanted me to become a Doctor but she compromised on her dreams for my happiness.

Ma, I had never said what I am saying today ‘Please forgive me for breaking your first dream’! I don’t regret my decision; though, today I feel I would have been happier if I had become a Doctor since I would have seen my mother happier. I was a stubborn child who many would not entertain, not even my dad sometimes; but my mother has always loved me the way I am. I remember once I had misbehaved at one of my relatives’ house and the aunty was really upset with me. My mother came back with me; she was hurt deep inside but didn’t utter a word to me about the incident.

Ma, I also never said ‘Sorry’ to you for that incident; today I want to admit that I was wrong and please forgive your obstinate, stubborn and bad-mannered child. Since my childhood, she as compromised on her happiness and would buy everything I demanded and desired. Coming from a middle class family, I slowly started realising that it was not possible for my mother to buy me everything I wished. Still, I wanted to travel to America to complete my Diploma in Fashion Designing.

With so many apprehensions, I had revealed my willingness to you; I in fact, was expecting you to thrash me for that, but you, instead heard me out. I was not sure that day about what was going in your mind and just a week later you asked me to apply for the Visa. You arranged for money and encouraged me to take up the course of my choice. I still wonder how someone could be so considerate, selfless and caring.

The answer is ‘the mother’ can be, and friends, the list of my being selfish is endless! I remember the day I disclosed the news to my mother that I wanted to marry Mira. I still speculate if you had chosen someone else for me; you never revealed it to me though! And for that I would like to say ‘Thank you’ to you, Ma!

Today on the 70 th birthday of my mother, I wish to take more births being only your son and promise to love you in a better way than I love you today. I would be more obedient, more caring and a very good listener.

Well, I rest my speech here; nonetheless, would talk to you Ma, tonight like I do every night. Love you Ma, and thank you friends.

Please enjoy yourself!

My Mother Speech 2

Respected Principal Sir, Respected Teachers and Dear fellow Students!

Today, on the occasion of mother’s Day, I would like to wish you all a very Happy Mother’s Day and welcome you to the celebrations!

Our school has been organizing Mother’s Day ever since it was established; but for the first time our respective mothers have been invited to the occasion.

It gives me immense pleasure to welcome all of you and I would like to speak about my mother today.

When I was preparing speech on my mother, I felt that the content belonged to every mother, everyone’s mother. So dear all, I request you to hear me out considering that someone is speaking about your mother too.

You all would agree that ‘Mother’ is the best creation of this world. Someone rightly said, God created mother as he could not be physically present everywhere. I call my mother ‘Ma’; some like to call ‘Mom’, ‘Amma’, ‘Ammi’ ‘Mummi’, ‘Mumma’. No matter, how we address her; mothers’ love for her child is immense and unconditional.

My mother is little special and she is very rich, friends as she would often distribute her love and care amongst my friends too. I wonder sometimes, how neatly she can hide the ocean of love within her heart.

Their souls are very pious. It’s been popularly said that the heaven lies in the feet of mother. I specially love the sound of morning bell rung by my mother in the morning while performing her morning rituals. I remember my mother putting the ‘Red Tilak’ on my forehead ever since I was 4 years old; she might however, be doing it since my birth may be, I don’t remember. My mother says that she has been growing along with me; but all she has developed in the last 14 years is the fear for my safety while I am riding bicycle, when I am on social media, when I am sleeping too late during my exams, when I am not finishing the food she prepares, when I am skipping my dinner just to eat Pizza, Burger, Noodles, etc.

My mother’s anxiety often annoys me; yes, it does and I am sure many of you subtly would agree with me, maybe after this speech. I don’t know, if you had or not but I had many altercations with my mother on her apprehensions. She never said anything to me but cried. Probably, she was not able to prove that her apprehensions had any base.

But friends, today I want to say that mother’s apprehensions are never baseless; it’s only the change in views. They always speak from their experience, especially, in context of their child. Also, since they are the creators of their children, I feel, they have all the more rights to ask them questions; to constantly worry about them and subsequently guide them.

My mother is present today and I would publicly like to say ‘Sorry’ for constantly hurting you; I also promise that I would always listen to you Ma.

On that note, I conclude my speech and thank you for listening patiently.

My Mother Speech 3

Dear Friends!

Thank you for assembling on the celebration of my parents’ 50 th wedding anniversary! While it gives me immense pleasure to welcome you all; it also leaves me wondering and amazed that 50 years of togetherness of my parents and not out!

The credit goes to both my mom and dad; but tonight, I would be biased towards my mom. She has been one lady that has never given up. My father had been in defence and mostly he would be away on duty. While my dad had been serving the country my mother had been serving my grandmother, grandmother and me.

My grandparents were old and my mother would get little support from them. Hence, each and every household chore as well as buying groceries, vegetables, fruits, etc. would be done by my mother. Thanks to the digital world today; my future wife would not need to go out; she would instead be able to order everything online, if I am away on office or business tours. But my mother or any mother for that matter did not have that advantage during those days. I am amazed, at the same time thankful to my mother who not only handled the house skilfully; she also gave me good education and taught me good manners and culture all single-handedly.

I am however, very sure that she got the emotional support constantly from my father and that’s why she could achieve what she achieved in the past 50 years. I look up to my mother as the strongest cord that attached our entire family and relatives together. She has always motivated me to pursue my dreams and has built my strength. She has also been a big motivator for my father as she would not tell the household problems to him and would encourage him to focus on his mission.

My mother is my best friend and I share all my woes, happiness, worries, troubles, success and failure with her and she is the most adamant pillar of our family. She has put all her effort in building my career and has advised me to encounter life and the world with perseverance and self confidence. She has been instrumental in my cracking of the IAS exam.

I still remember, she would be awake the whole night along with me just to ensure that I get my milk, fruits, sprouts, etc. on time. She has not only strengthened my mentally but also physically. I guess, I have scored the marks but she deserves all the medals received by my father and me.

Ma, today on your 50 th wedding anniversary, I would like to say that you have done everything you could for us; today you deserve rest and I would like you take a trip to the world. I have booked your and dad’s tickets for next week. Though we can’t return enough for what you have been doing all these 50 years for all of us. This is a small token of love to dad and you.

I hope you would enjoy your trip and live for yourself for the first time ever and on this note, I rest my speech here.

My Mother Speech 4

Warm Greetings to my Friends and all the Mothers – I hope this auspicious day finds you in the best of spirits! I especially welcome all the mothers and I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude for accepting our invitation and gracing this occasion.

As you all know why we have gathered today and the reason behind organizing this speech ceremony. This entire place is decked up for all our mothers and it’s not possible for any one of us to put in words how much we love our mother. So on this auspicious occasion of Mother’s Day, I on behalf of my entire friends, would like to take this wonderful opportunity of thanking our mothers for bringing us to this world and nurturing both our body and minds.

Of course, our bodies with your deliciously cooked meals and our minds with great thoughts and worldly wisdom. Even though a thank you is not enough and no gesture can reciprocate what our mothers do for us, still if we could bring a smile on your faces and make you happy we would feel our efforts have paid off. Also, we want to thank God for giving us such amazing mothers who shower unconditional love on us.

Mom, you are not only my mother, but my best friend and my guiding light. It sounds clichéd, but true. Ever since I came into this world, you have taken care of me every single time and protected me from everything. You have always been there and the time when I needed you the most, you became a rock solid support. What else can I ask for? We eat together, we shop together and we hang out together and enjoy our late night gossips! Isn’t that so amazing! I simple don’t require the presence of anyone when you are there. This is the reason why I don’t have many friends because I have found my best friend in you and a real confidante, who I know will never betray my trust and will always stand by me through thick and thin.

I am sure all my friends can very well relate with it and will have a similar story to tell. Isn’t it? Because all mothers are the God’s angles who are given to the children for their nurturing. It is rightly said that God cannot be everywhere so He created the Mother. I cannot imagine my life without my mother, maa you are not just my lifeline but my life and soul.

I exist and live because of you. You are the sole reason behind my survival. You give me strength and positivity to endure the hardships of life. I want to make you proud one day and want to fulfill all your dreams which you sacrificed for your children. On this day, I just pray to God for your everlasting happiness, long life and sound health. May you continue to blossom each day and never face any difficult situations!

This is my only wish for you, love you Maa!

Now, may I please invite my friends on stage one by one to say a few words for their mothers.

In this article, we will explore the essential elements and steps to help you write an exceptional speech that honors and celebrates the incredible mothers in our lives.

Table of Contents

Reflecting on Your Relationship

Before you begin writing your speech, take some time to reflect on your relationship with your mother or the mother figure you are celebrating. Consider the cherished memories, lessons learned, and the impact she has had on your life. These reflections will provide you with a solid foundation to shape your speech and ensure its authenticity.

Establishing a Theme

A compelling speech often revolves around a central theme or message. This theme can be based on your mother’s qualities, her influence, or the significance of motherhood in general. Choose a theme that resonates with your personal experiences and allows you to express your admiration and gratitude effectively.

Structuring Your Speech

Introduction.

Begin your speech with a captivating opening. You can use a meaningful quote, an anecdote, or a heartfelt personal story that captures the essence of your relationship with your mother. Introduce the theme of your speech and establish a connection with your audience by expressing how universal and relatable the bond between a mother and child is.

Divide the body of your speech into two or three main points. Each point should support and elaborate on your chosen theme. Share specific examples, memories, or qualities of your mother that highlight why she is exceptional. Use descriptive language to paint a vivid picture of her love, sacrifices, and unwavering support. Incorporate humor, if appropriate, to add warmth and authenticity to your speech.

Summarize the key points you have discussed. Reinforce the theme of your speech and emphasize the significance of mothers and motherhood. Conclude with a heartfelt message of appreciation and love, leaving the audience with a lasting impression of the incredible impact mothers have on our lives.

Adding Personal Touches

To make your speech truly memorable, incorporate personal touches that reflect your unique relationship with your mother. Share personal anecdotes, memories, or inside jokes that will resonate with both your mother and the audience. This personalization adds authenticity and depth to your speech, making it more engaging and emotionally impactful.

Editing and Rehearsing

After completing the initial draft of your speech, take the time to review and refine your writing. Ensure your ideas flow smoothly and that the language you use is clear and concise. Remove any unnecessary details or tangents that may distract from your main message.

Once you are satisfied with the content, rehearse your speech multiple times. Practice your delivery, paying attention to pacing, tone, and gestures. Rehearsing will help build your confidence and ensure a smooth and impactful delivery on Mother’s Day.

Mother’s Day Speech Example #1

Good morning/afternoon/evening. Today, we gather here to celebrate a truly remarkable and cherished occasion—Mother’s Day. It is a day when we come together to honor and express our deepest gratitude to the incredible women who have shaped our lives—the mothers who have loved, nurtured, and guided us through every step of our journey.

I stand before you today, not just as a speaker, but as a daughter/son who has been blessed with an extraordinary mother. As I look around this room, I see faces filled with love and appreciation for the mothers who have made a profound impact on our lives. Each one of us has a unique story, a personal connection, and a deep bond with the women we call “Mom.”

When I reflect on the qualities that define a mother, I am filled with awe and admiration. Mothers possess an unparalleled strength, a love that knows no bounds, and an unwavering dedication to their children. They are our first teachers, teaching us valuable life lessons through their actions and words. They are our cheerleaders, supporting us in every endeavor and celebrating our successes. They are our pillars of strength, providing comfort and solace during our darkest days.

Today, I want to take a moment to honor my own mother—who has been my guiding light and my greatest inspiration. Her love has been my rock, her wisdom my compass, and her unwavering support my safety net. She has taught me the importance of kindness, perseverance, and unconditional love. Her sacrifices and selflessness have shaped the person I am today, and I am forever grateful.

But let us not forget that Mother’s Day is not only about celebrating our own mothers—it is about honoring all mothers. It is about recognizing the incredible contributions of mothers everywhere, who tirelessly work towards creating a better future for their children. Today, we pay tribute to the mothers who have braved sleepless nights, sacrificed their own dreams, and poured their hearts into raising the next generation.

In a world that often moves too fast, Mother’s Day serves as a gentle reminder to pause, reflect, and express our gratitude. It is a day to cherish the moments we have shared, the laughter we have enjoyed, and the lessons we have learned. It is an opportunity to say “thank you” for the countless meals prepared, the scraped knees kissed, and the bedtime stories read. It is a chance to let our mothers know that their love and presence have shaped us in ways beyond measure.

As we celebrate Mother’s Day today, let us remember those who are no longer with us. Their love and memories live on in our hearts, and their legacy continues through the values they instilled in us.

To all the mothers present here today, I want to say thank you. Thank you for your unconditional love, your unwavering support, and your constant presence in our lives. Thank you for the sacrifices you make and the countless ways you enrich our world. Your love is a beacon of light that guides us through life’s challenges, and your nurturing spirit inspires us to be the best versions of ourselves.

In closing, let us treasure the bonds we share with our mothers and make every day a Mother’s Day by showing our love and appreciation. May we continue to honor and celebrate the incredible women who have shaped our lives, not just today, but every day.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the phenomenal mothers out there!

Mother’s Day Speech Example #2

Ladies and gentlemen,

A warm and heartfelt welcome to all of you as we gather here today to celebrate the extraordinary women who have touched our lives in profound ways—our mothers. On this special occasion of Mother’s Day, we come together to honor and pay tribute to the incredible love, strength, and guidance that mothers provide.

If there’s one word that encapsulates the essence of motherhood, it is “unconditional.” A mother’s love knows no boundaries, no limits. It is a love that is selfless, nurturing, and everlasting. From the moment we take our first breath, our mothers wrap us in their arms, providing us with warmth, comfort, and a sense of belonging.

Today, I stand before you not just as a speaker, but as a grateful son/daughter, privileged to have been raised by an extraordinary woman. My mother has been my guiding star, my rock of support, and my source of inspiration. Her unwavering belief in me, her unwavering belief in my dreams, has given me the courage to overcome challenges and pursue my passions.

As I look around this room, I see the faces of individuals who have been shaped by the love and sacrifices of their own mothers. Each mother’s journey is unique, filled with triumphs, joys, and sometimes, hardships. Yet, through it all, they remain steadfast in their commitment to their children.

Mothers are the silent heroes who work tirelessly behind the scenes, often unnoticed and underappreciated. They are the ones who wake up early to prepare meals, who stay up late to ensure we are safe and sound. They are the ones who mend our broken hearts, wipe away our tears, and cheer us on through every stage of life.

Today, let us take a moment to reflect on the invaluable life lessons our mothers have taught us. They have taught us the importance of kindness, empathy, and resilience. They have shown us the power of forgiveness and the beauty of unconditional love. They have instilled within us values that shape our character and guide our interactions with the world.

Mother’s Day is not just a day to express our gratitude to our own mothers; it is a day to celebrate all mothers—the ones who have nurtured us, mentored us, and stood by us. It is a day to honor the grandmothers, aunts, sisters, and mother figures who have played pivotal roles in our lives. Their love knows no boundaries, extending beyond bloodlines and connecting us in a web of shared experiences and cherished memories.

Today, let us not only express our appreciation through words but through actions. Let us make a conscious effort to show our love and gratitude to the mothers in our lives every single day. Let us lend a helping hand, offer a listening ear, and embrace the opportunity to create lasting memories together.

In conclusion, on this special day dedicated to mothers, let us remember the immeasurable impact they have had on our lives. Let us celebrate their boundless love, their unwavering strength, and their remarkable ability to inspire us to be better versions of ourselves.

To all the mothers present here today, I want to express my deepest gratitude. Your love and presence enrich our lives in ways that words cannot fully capture. Today, we honor you, we celebrate you, and we thank you for your immeasurable contributions.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the incredible mothers out there!

They possess an innate ability to heal wounds, both physical and emotional, with a simple touch or a comforting word. Their love knows no boundaries, transcending distance, time, and circumstances.

Today, let us take a moment to reflect on the qualities that make mothers so extraordinary. They possess boundless strength, resilience, and a fierce determination to protect and nurture their children. They are our first teachers, imparting wisdom, knowledge, and life lessons that shape our character and guide us through life’s journey. They celebrate our successes, provide solace during our failures, and instill within us the belief that we can achieve anything we set our minds to.

As we honor mothers today, let us also remember those who may not be with us physically but whose spirit and love continue to inspire us. Their legacies live on in our hearts, reminding us of the profound impact they have had on our lives.

To the mothers in this room and beyond, I want to express my deepest gratitude. Thank you for your unwavering love, your unwavering dedication, and your unwavering belief in our potential. You are the embodiment of love, strength, and resilience, and we are forever indebted to you.

On this special day, let us make a commitment to cherish and celebrate our mothers every day, not just on Mother’s Day. Let us express our love, appreciation, and support in both words and actions. Let us be present, truly present, in their lives, and create memories that will be treasured for a lifetime.

In closing, I would like to extend my warmest wishes to all the incredible mothers here today and around the world. Your love and sacrifices have shaped us into the individuals we are today, and we are eternally grateful.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Her endless sacrifices and qualities of forgiveness are unmatchable. A mother cares for her children like no one else does. The greatness of mothers has recognised the world over by celebrating International Mother’s Day every year. Mothers play a very responsible role in shaping the future of children.

Speech on Mother 500 Words in English

Below we have provided a heart touching speech on Mother in English, written in easy and simple words for classes 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10.

Good morning to everyone present here. A warm welcome to everyone present here. Today I am going to deliver a speech on Mother. Mother is the second name of God on earth. She is the epitome of love, care, generosity & sacrifice. She is the one who holds the child for nine months in her womb taking all the pain. Our mother is the most significant person in the family. She acts like a glue to bind all the members of the family. Mothers are the source of unconditional love & care.

She is always protective of her child in all situations. She spends sleepless nights for her child but never asks anything in return. Love of mother is pure & selfless. Mothers are our first teachers of life. She guides us through fundamental things like walking, talking, eating, which are the basics of life on earth. She is the key to all our behaviour, attitude & discipline of life. She also helps us with our studies & homework. She always keeps us encouraging to move forward & reach greater heights. She also inoculates the qualities like love, honesty, punctuality, empathy into us.

She is the one from whom we learn about religious values & faiths. Our mother is like our friends, with whom we share all the details of the day. She listens to all our good & bad deeds but never judges us. She always tries to keep us on the right track. She plays with us, teaches us, cooks for us, her whole day revolves around her child only. A mother never complains about it in her life. A mother is always behind the most successful person.

Even Abraham Lincoln credits his mother as one of the reasons for success in his life. Mother plays an undeniable role in all of our lives. Her ever-smiling face takes away all the sorrow of the world. Her sacrifice & selflessness is incomparable. So we all should respect & love our mother the most. It is our responsibility to take care of her. We must always try to keep her happy. I want to conclude my speech with a quote from Charley Benetto.

“When you are looking at your mother, you are looking at the purest love you will ever know.”

Short Speech on My Mother

A very warm welcome to all of you presents here. Dear teachers & my fellow friends, today I …….. is going to deliver my speech on the topic “Mother.” We come across different relationships in our lives, but the most important for us is being a mother. God could not be present everywhere on the earth, so he created a mother. She is a person who gives birth to us, withstanding all the pain for long nine months. She is the most adorable & loving person in a family. She is the one who keeps us all bonded in one string called family.

She is the most caring person of the family who is always awake all night to ensure that we sleep well. The one with whom we share all our problems & she is always ready with a solution. Always makes dishes of our choice & ensures the orderliness of the house. In everyone’s life, the mother’s role is supreme. She is the first teacher of our life who guided us in every step without any hesitation or any fees.

Hello, all of you

From the bottom of my heart, I wish you great greetings before I begin my speech. And thank you for giving me this opportunity to speak. Today I will try my best to avail this opportunity. So let’s come to today’s topic. For me, it’s an unforgettable day.

A mother is the one who does everything for her children. Every mother should be respected and admired for the sacrifices which she gives to her family. And everyone should consider paying back for her deeds when reaching old age.

There is no substitute for my mother as no one can not reach that level of hard work and sacrifice as my mom. She bears immense pain to bring me into this world. She not only bears pain but also sacrifices her body for my life.

Today from this stage I want to thank my mom for her love and everything she has done for me and my family. Like nature, a mother is caring and forgiving, nurturing and compassionate. My mother works day and night to make my family’s lives better. She wakes up early in the morning and does work restlessly till the night.

For me, my mother is a true example of a real leader. She’s always standing behind me to guide me and support me in all sectors of my life. In short words, my mother means everything to me and I love my mom very much.

Long Speech on My Mother | 4 Minute

Long Speech on My Mother

A mother is the first teacher and friend in everyone’s life. Because it’s a mother who teaches her children many important things in life. An infant baby is totally dependent on its mother and a mother is happily working tirelessly for her child.

My mother has done everything for me, from taking my first step in life to this age she does everything for the betterment of my life. People say science is a great blessing for us but I think mothers are the greatest blessing for our lives.

I want to tell you that I’m so lucky as I got my mother as my best friend. All my problems are solved by my mother as she’s my guardian and my teacher. She’s the first person to wake up in the morning at my house. As a teacher, she helps me with my school homework.

She’s a real caretaker as she takes care of my family. Besides being a caretaker she’s a great cook as she cooks all kinds of food like Desi, Chinese, Italian, and many more. She also knows the recipes for sweet dishes. Often she invites my friends over for dinner and cooks delicious food for all of us.

My mother does her best to maintain our family’s lifestyle like our clothes, home furniture, and decoration. If any person in my family is unable to find anything in our house, everyone asks my mother for her help. She does her best to help and take care of every member of our family.

My mother has all qualities to do anything and I think it can’t be wrong if I say my mom is a supermom. My mother always encourages me and gives me enough courage to face my difficult times. I always celebrate mother’s day every year and I think we all should celebrate at least one day in a month as mother’s day. As a day in a year is not enough for mothers.

Mother’s Day Speech - 10 Lines, Short and Long Speech

"Maa" changed to "Mummy," and "Mummy" changed to "Mom" . But regardless of what we label it, our mother's love and compassion for us remain constant. The sacrifices a woman makes for her children cannot be repaid in a single day. Even so, we honour mothers by celebrating her on mother’s day.

  • 10 lines speech on Mother’s Day

Every year we celebrate the second Sunday of May as mother’s day. This day differs from region to region and may be celebrated before or after in a few countries.

Mother’s Day Speech - 10 Lines, Short and Long Speech

Mother is considered the epitome of love and affection. Nobody in the world can replace a mother.

Charley Benetto once said that when you look at your mother, you are looking at the purest form of love.

The struggles of a mother start from the day she conceives and goes on for a lifetime.

For every child who fulfilled his dream, there was a mother behind sacrificing her sweet dreams for reality.

The same sweet and innocent mother becomes the warrior when any problems occur in the lives of her children.

This day gives us the moment to think about the sacrifices made by the mother and thank her.

The closest and the most transparent relation any person can share is with their mothers.

There are a few situations in which we have seen people leaving their mothers to old age homes as they didn't realise their worth.

It is very late when they realise their worth. So it would be better if we understood the value of this before only.

A mother can do every possible thing for the sake of her family and doesn't ask for anything in return. She feeds her child with her flesh and blood. Even a small token of love is appreciated by our mothers. She teaches us all the things in life. From using a fork to choosing a friend, from reading books to reading the minds of people, from walking a step to walking into realities of life, from drawings to dreams every path we conquer is all due to the support of our mothers.

It is our due responsibility to take care of our mothers and treat them with respect. The overall character and personality of the child are determined by the mother. She sticks to us through thick and thin.

Great personalities have different perspectives of looking at things. So, once when our president APJ Abdul Kalam was asked about birthdays, he replied “ It is the only day in your life... Your mother smiled when you cried” . She gives us life on a single day but she dies every day to give us a good upbringing.

Each religion teaches us to respect our mothers. She is considered great even when considered to be a god. Even the god bows down to her. Lord Vishnu reincarnated as Little Krishna only to experience the love of the mother. The love of the mother is the only thing that doesn't discriminate or change the situation.

Long speech on Mother's Day

Mother is the first person whom we contact on this earth. The pain experienced by any woman while giving birth is the highest amount of pain any human can endure. According to The Bible, God can't be present anywhere, so he created the mothers. This single word holds enormous feelings. Nobody can replace a mother, but the rest of everybody can be replaced by a good mother. She is our first teacher, First friend, guide, philosopher, cook and many more.

She is the biggest support system in our lives. Mary Mason says “A baby is a thing you carry in your womb for nine months, in your arms for three years and in your heart till you die” . This line implies the feelings a mother has for her child.

History | In the American context, The first efforts were made by Anna Jarvis followed by the death of her mother in 1905. The holiday was first celebrated in the year 1907. President Woodrow Wilson announced it as an official holiday in 1914. However, the celebration of motherhood can be traced back to ancient Romans and Greeks, who held festivals in honour of mother goddesses Rhea and Cybele.

Celebrations

The modern-day celebration started in America. However, few countries follow different days and dates. Many countries such as Albania, Armenia, Russia, Vietnam, Bulgaria, Bosnia, Kosovo, Laos, Serbia, and Tajikistan celebrate it along with International Women’s day.

Few countries like Ireland, Nigeria and the U.K. celebrate Mothering Sunday on the “Fourth Sunday” of May month.

Many countries celebrate it on the Spring equinox on 21 March. These are Bahrain, Comoros, Djibouti, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Libya, Lebanon, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan and many more.

In India, It is celebrated on the Second Sunday of May along with countries like Austria, Australia, Bhutan, Canada, Cambodia, Denmark, Greece, Pakistan and many more.

This is the story of a little boy who was taught by his mother. His mother was a schoolteacher. This child was inquisitive. But when he attended school, he faced various problems. He wasn't able to understand things. This was because he developed hearing problems at the age of 12. He became completely deaf in one ear. However, he was attracted to science and conducted many experiments at home.

Once when he returned from school he had a note written by this teacher. He handed the note to his mother and said that my teacher said only you could open it. His mother opened the letter and weepingly said, Your teacher says the child is extremely intelligent for the school and so, the school can’t teach him.

After many years after the death of his mother, while cleaning the closet he found that letter. When he opened the letter, he found that his teacher had written that “Your child is addled and hence, a misfit for the school” . He credited all his success to his mother who didn't stop him from learning and rather worked hard to teach him.

This was the story of a very famous scientist, who failed a thousand times before his invention. The boy was Mr Thomas Alva Edison, the inventor of the light bulb.

Short Speech on My Mother in English for Students and Children

Respected Principal, teachers, and my dear friends.

A wonderful morning to all of you. Today I am going to tell you about my major blessing on this earth, My Mother.

Mothers are real blessings on this earth. I am very lucky to have one. My mother is my best friend. I share everything with her and she can solve my problems in seconds.

My mother is a teacher. She wakes up early in the morning. She goes to school like me but to teach. She teaches children at the primary level. She teaches them all the subjects. She teaches me as well. She helps me complete my homework and prepare me for my exams.

For me, the best part of my day is when she makes me fall asleep. She recites some fairy tales for me or she asks me to read something before going to bed. I love her bedtime stories as they help me to sleep peacefully.

She takes care of me and my family really well. She cooks different kinds of cuisines for us and maintains our daily essentials like clothes, books, furniture, etc. If any member of the house is unable to find something, they reach her for help. She takes care of the needs of every family member.

For me, my mother is a superwoman. She can handle anything and everything. Whenever I feel low, she is there to encourage me. She knows about the things I am scared of. She helps me to become brave. She motivates me to do better in life. She makes me understand the reason behind everything and helps me overcome my fears.

Mothers are so special that mother’s day is celebrated in our country. It is celebrated on the second Sunday in the month of May. It is celebrated to recognize the hard work done by mothers and the sacrifices they make for the happiness of the family. Every year I celebrate this day with my mother . I love her very much.

Thank you for lending me your ears.

Mother's Day Long Speech

Respected Sir/Madam, esteemed guests, and my fellow students,

Mother's Day is a beautiful celebration of motherhood, a time when we express our love and gratitude to the special women in our lives. A mother's love is pure and selfless, and she serves as the backbone of the family, sacrificing everything to keep everyone happy.

For me, my mother is my greatest teacher and supporter. She has always been there for me, guiding me through life's challenges and teaching me valuable lessons along the way. Her sacrifices for my happiness and success are endless, and I am forever grateful for her love and care.

Mother's Day is celebrated differently around the world, but its essence remains the same – to honour and appreciate mothers for their unconditional love and selfless contributions to their families and society. However, in recent times, the true meaning of Mother's Day has been overshadowed by commercialization.

Mothers are the heart and soul of the family, binding everyone together with their love and care. They possess an unmatched strength and resilience, always putting their children's needs before their own. A mother's love is a powerful force that can weather any storm and overcome any obstacle.

Every day should be Mother's Day, as we should always cherish and appreciate the love and sacrifices of our mothers. Let us take this opportunity to honour and celebrate all the beautiful mothers around the world, thanking them for their unwavering love and support.

In closing, I want to express my deepest gratitude to my mother for everything she has done for me. I also want to thank each and every one of you for being here today to celebrate the incredible women who have shaped our lives. Happy Mother's Day to all!

An Ode to Those Who Mother Us

By Catherine Pearson Illustrations by Monica Garwood

When her children were toddlers, Sara Walcott lived far away from her parents. But a couple from her church helped fill the gap, watching the children so she could enjoy a few minutes of calm every week. “They became Sunday grandmas,” said Ms. Walcott, 53, who lives in Macon, Ga. After one “grandma” passed away, Ms. Walcott assumed a daughter’s role, checking on the surviving one daily. “This relationship,” she said, “has been a blessing to us all.”

Those who love and care for us are not always our parents. For Mother’s Day, The Times asked readers to tell us about the mother figures in their lives.

Ruth lied to my parents. When she interviewed for the job of taking care of my four older siblings and me, she said she had lots of experience caring for children. Truth was, she’d never held a baby before in her life. She let me stay up late on Sunday nights, curled up next to her in an overstuffed chair, watching our favorite television shows. She let me “drive” her old green Ford, holding me on her lap while I steered. She taught me to make Norwegian wreath cookies and Swedish meatballs from scratch. She taught me that nobody is perfect. I experienced unconditional love and so did she.

JUDITH SHAPIRO , 73, McLEAN, VA.

Mrs. Halbeck, my third- and fourth-grade teacher in Kansas City, Mo., in the 1960s, made no secret that she found me delightful, and her support and affection meant the world to me. I clung to her optimism and cheerful approval. To this day, more than a half-century later, I still have a postcard from New York that she sent every child in her third-grade class.

I met Jacqueline during my junior year abroad in France. She needed an English tutor for her son, and I was happy to make some easy spending money. I was immediately enthralled by her characteristically French stubbornness and her uncharacteristic willingness to scoop me up as her “petite Américaine.” Jacqueline introduced me to kir royale, pâté on toast — bien grillé!— and the dazzling, twinkling magnificence of a Paris-by-night tour in her car. She was a bright star to all who knew her — brighter than all the lights in Paris combined. It’s now a little dimmer without her.

JESSICA CHAHINE , 47, SOUTH LYON, MICH.

My first year teaching, I was living in a new country and had been married less than a week. My mentor teacher Patty quickly became my confidante and my “mama.” Before the first day of school, I realized with growing dread that I had no idea what to do with my students. I tried to be cool and asked her if she had a minute. Patty smiled and said, “Pull up a chair, darlin’, this will take more than a minute!”

In the coming years, she taught me how to make pie crust, how to use binoculars and to wear a blazer for parent-teacher conferences. Patty drove for hours to cheer me on at marathons and triathlons, and folded me into her family completely. Recently, Patty and her husband have had some health challenges. I call most days, and have flown there four times in the last seven months. It’s my turn to support Patty.

KELLY SANDOVAL , 48, SQUAMISH, B.C., CANADA

I come from a multicultural background, but the Puerto Rican side of the family lived far away. Alina, my best friend’s mom when I was in the third grade, taught me so much about my culture. Going to the store was a lesson in salsa music, visiting a theme park was a vocabulary lesson (“Fallon, ven aqui!”), taking a shower was a lesson in how to care for my hair and holidays were a lesson in large family gatherings and delicious food. All of these little things added up to a more full picture of my culture. Without Alina, I wouldn’t know a part of myself.

My mother died when I was 19, one month before I was supposed to study abroad in Cambridge, England. When I showed up, Linda, my host mother, picked me up from the bus stop and made me tea and crumpets. The first thing she told me was that I could cry whenever I needed to. A dam broke, and I just cried and cried. Even though I was only supposed to stay with Linda’s family for a couple of days, they picked me up every weekend from the university for the remainder of the semester. We’re still in touch 25 years later, and whenever I see Linda, she still treats me like her own daughter.

BELLA MUNTZ KIRCHNER , 44, AUSTIN, TEXAS

Tenzin became our nanny when I returned to work, five months after giving birth to my youngest daughter. She taught my baby to take a bottle and solved her dry scalp with coconut oil. She planned fun adventures for my toddler around the city. When I contracted the coxsackievirus from my toddler and my throat was raw with sores, she made me a beef broth from scratch with Tibetan dumplings and sent me to bed. She guided me through my early days of motherhood, understanding in a way I didn’t that new mothers need mothering as much as their babies do.

CHANTAL TORTOROLI ROBERTS , 41, LARCHMONT, N.Y.

Mom passed away when I was 5, and I was mothered by three unmarried aunts and two older cousins in an all-female household. It was a caring, nurturing but feisty upbringing that I got from this ragtag bunch of artsy idealists, who raised me to believe that I could be anything I wanted to be and do anything I set my mind to.

My fifth-grade teacher, Miss Jordan, was a powerful example of what a Black woman could be. Miss Jordan believed that education did not just include reading, writing and arithmetic. She introduced us to culture. Somehow, she put together trips to Radio City Music Hall and other events at little or no cost to our families. When I became a high school teacher decades later, I often told my students about how impactful she had been on my life. Sadly, I never got to tell Miss Jordan any of this. When I was in sixth grade, she became gravely ill and died.

MARJORIE GEORGE , 60, BROOKLYN, N.Y.

Shortly after college, I moved to Japan to teach English. A co-worker named Yoshibe looked after me. I spoke no Japanese, and she spoke no English. But for three years, with humor and candor, Yoshibe-san managed to orient me to the routines and protocols of a Japanese office, and to life in a country entirely new to me. She had me over to eat yakisoba and grilled fish (my favorites) with her husband and young daughters. Early on, she pointed out that instead of the word for the stamp I used to sign my name (inkan), I had used the word for jock itch (inkin). We were both mortified! As I prepare for a trip to Japan, where I will have dinner with Yoshibe-san for the first time in almost 30 years, I’m not sure how to adequately thank my Japanese mom. But when I see her, I will sure try.

MARY HAYES , 56, INDIANAPOLIS, IND.

My mother died on my 16th birthday. She left me many “mothers.” Flossy, Frankye, Viola and Lois. Aunt Flossy was five years older than my mom and was her best friend. She had worked on her feet since she was 14, as a waitress and soda jerker, retiring at age 84. Mom and I lived with Frankye and her three children in Walla Walla, Wash., while my father was in the state penitentiary. Viola, who lived next door to us in Northern Idaho and belonged to a Swedish “homesteader” family, embraced me as if I were her own. Lois, who will be 95 soon, taught me that it was possible to enjoy a hamburger without ketchup. I lived with her family in Seattle for three summers. I am blessed to have had each teach me, love me and guide me.

DOUG MOURER , 74, MANSON, WASH.

I walked into the Alcoholics Anonymous room as a desperate and depleted 18-year-old alcoholic. Colleen, a 32-year-old mom of two, became my sponsor. She was the first woman to love me unconditionally. She encouraged me to dream, and helped me navigate college — from a G.E.D., to a bachelor’s to a master’s in education. She taught me about money and kept me from repeating generational poverty. I’m now a high school teacher, mother and mentor to other young women. My superpower is believing in teenagers, thanks to Colleen, who believed in me.

WENDY RICE , 55, BELLINGHAM, WASH.

Dr. Greenberg had high standards, and her history class was one of the best educational experiences of my life. She shared her love of Bach with me, and this sparked a deeper interest in classical music and the church. Dr. Greenberg passed away in 2023, and I am looking forward to honoring her friendship, terrific sense of humor, great intellect and her love of England by singing during a choir residency at Gloucester Cathedral this summer.

MANUEL FIGALLO , 54, ARLINGTON, VA.

My sister Rita was born six years before I was. If I had a nightmare and woke my mother up, she would tell me to climb into bed with Rita. I loved my mother, who was sweet but overwhelmed with raising four children while my dad worked long hours six days a week. Rita was always there, always loving. She introduced me to the library and cleaned me up when I was in second grade and had an upset stomach in the school bathroom. I was the maid of honor at her small wedding, and she was my matron of honor. Once, my fiancé and I were in a movie theater watching a comedy. After a few minutes, I leaned over to him and said, “My sister is here.” I could detect her laughter even in the crowded theater.

HARRIET LISS , 83, STAMFORD, CONN.

An illustration of a person sitting in a large arm chair with a child beside them while they read a book together. A cat is sitting on the floor to the right.

My mother was diagnosed with brain cancer when I was a senior in college. A small group of her friends circled around me. One started a travel fund so that I could visit with my mom on the weekends. Another donated money after college so that I could get grief counseling. Later, when I was in graduate school and working full-time, they organized a monthly breakfast with me. They never uttered a word about their own busy lives or families. They sat and listened, never intrusive, always supportive.

MARY EILEEN CONNERY McDONNELL , 52, GEORGETOWN, MASS.

When I was 13, my mother wrote to me at camp to say we had new “beatnik neighbors.” He was an interior designer, she a fashion photographer’s stylist. I thought they were incredibly chic and glamorous. I was a latchkey kid, so it was very easy to ring their bell after school. I babysat their gorgeous 2-year-old daughter. They took me antiquing. Wilma taught me how to cook, bake and sew while she played Ella Fitzgerald and Judy Garland records. Then my world collapsed. Wilma had a bout of cancer just before they moved in and suffered a recurrence about two years later. She died just short of her 32nd birthday. I have never gotten over that loss. But I carry her lessons, so she is alive in me.

MADLYN DICKENS , 78, THE BRONX, N.Y.

Her name was Mrs. Dunn — my best friend is her daughter — and she took me under her wing. She taught me that when you can’t get in through the front door, there is always a side door, or a window, to slip into the places you wanted to go. When I was flunking out of high school, she and my guidance counselor had me apply for art school. I got in. Hers was the sofa I landed on when things got messy. Hers was the supportive voice saying, “Oh, Gen!” when I made great strides. Before her Parkinson’s got bad, I was able to tell her, “Your thumbprints are all over every inch of my life and who I’ve become.”

GENEVIEVE GEER , 51, MARATHON, N.Y.

An illustration of a person comforting a young person who is leaning on their shoulder. Large rain drops are falling around them.

I started working at the grocery store in my college town when I was 18. During that year I also moved into my first apartment, away from the guidance of my mother. Grocery shopping by myself left me confused and overwhelmed. My co-worker, in her 60s, explained some easy meals I could make, placing cans of beans and bags of greens in my shopping cart. That act of kindness touched me. She showed up at my house with Cava and Spanish cheeses the week before I moved to Spain.

ANYA SANCHEZ , 20, BOULDER, COLO.

In the late 1980s, my parents returned to India from where we lived in Toronto. They needed me to get married — I was 21 — so I got to live with my “mami” (my mom’s brother’s wife). She gently cared for me, from the buffalo milk she boiled, cooled and put in a tall glass with chocolate and sugar to the letters she wrote in longhand to prospective suitors every Sunday, when the matrimonial section of The Times of India arrived. When I decided to take a stand and remain single, she cheered me on. And when, 10-plus years later, I met my husband-to-be, he went to Delhi to meet her and get her approval. It’s been eight years since cancer carried her body away, but her spirited reminder — “Be bold, Kitty” — still carries me through life.

KITTY CHACHRA , 58, WATERLOO, ONTARIO, CANADA

After three years of trying to get pregnant, I took a year off while we hosted a French exchange student. Little did my wife and I know then, Gabe would be our one and only “child.” I would often get mad at my messed-up biology. But knowing Gabe loves us as his “extra” moms fills me up.

The Chiefs kicker who told women to be 'homemakers' rather than have careers has a physicist mother

  • Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker faced backlash for saying women should focus on being homemakers.
  • He made the comments during a commencement address at Benedictine College's graduation ceremony.
  • Butker mom's is a physicist at Emory.

Insider Today

Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker gave some controversial advice to young women during his commencement address at Benedictine College's graduation ceremony on Saturday. Now, some critics are pointing out the irony in his message.

During his speech at the Catholic college, the NFL player, known for being an outspoken conservative Catholic , told the women in the graduating class they'd been fed "diabolical lies."

"How many of you are sitting here now about to cross this stage and are thinking about all the promotions and titles you're going to get in your career?" he asked. "Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world."

He praised his wife for supporting his career as she took on "one of the most important titles of all: homemaker" instead of fulfilling her previous dream of having a career of her own. At one point, he also quoted lyrics from Taylor Swift , a noted career woman (and billionaire) — an irony that wasn't lost on Swift's fanbase.

Celebrities and people online quickly spoke out against Butker's message, which also took aim at LGBTQ+ and abortion rights . Some critics zeroed in on the fact that Butker's mother is a career woman.

Several users on X pointed out that Butker's mother, Elizabeth Keller Butker, is a physicist. "Harrison Butker's mom is a medical physicist in the oncology department at Emory. I can't believe this guy's mommy issues ruined graduation for the women at Benedictine College," one user posted on X .

Elizabeth Keller Butker's name and photo are featured on the Emory University School of Medicine's Radiation Oncology staff page , and she's listed as a clinical medical physicist. According to a LinkedIn page that appears to belong to Butker's mother, she earned her undergraduate degree from Smith College and has worked at Emory since June 1988. A representative for Emory did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider sent outside regular business hours.

The NFL has disavowed the comments Butker made in his speech and reiterated that they're committed to inclusivity.

Butker, his wife, or his mom haven't spoken out publicly about Butker's graduation speech comments. Butker's representative didn't respond to previous requests for comment from BI.
