Feature image of Short Essay on Spring Season

The seasonal cycle of our earth is divided into four major seasons: summer, winter, spring, and autumn. Spring is a vital and one of the most prominent seasons globally. The season indicates fertility, new life, growth, and the birth cycle. The world celebrates the newly arrived fruits, vegetables, and animals through spring.

This season arrives after winter and continues till summer. So with spring,  several festivals are celebrated because the harsh winter is no more. Spring festivals are common in India as Holi and Vasant Panchami. Nature is filled with colours and fragrances. In European countries, spring festivals include lights, candles, cherry blossoms, and a great feast. Spring is the time in which the world rejoices in pleasure.

If the seasons and the cycle of seasons are well noticed in a year, then we observe that the year begins with winter in January and slowly by the end of February, till March, a beautiful season arrives. It is the spring season. From a geographical point of view, the earth during the time starts its revolution towards the northern hemisphere. So the northern hemisphere leans toward the sun and the days start getting warmer and longer. It is during this time that spring is celebrated in nature.

After the end of the cold winter season, nature takes birth through spring. New flowers and leaves fill the trees. Birds and animals start making their own house and come out of their hibernation. Once again life starts with the new sounds of the little birds and the smell and colours of new fruits and flowers. The world celebrates spring like a festival.

In India it is observed through Holi and Vasant Panchami; in European and Asian countries, cherry blossoms are a famous ingredient of the spring festival. They organize huge feasts and gatherings along with lights and other decorations. However seasonal changes cause several diseases during this time. Spring is also associated with diseases like pox and cough and cold. So if these medical issues can be removed, then spring is a moment of happiness and joy.

Nature contains her own method of controlling the life cycle on earth. Nature as the feminine aspect of the whole universe is responsible for controlling all forms of birth processes, be it humans, flora, animals, or even the seasons. The seasonal cycle of the earth can be majorly divided into four parts. The global cycle of seasons includes winter, summer, spring, and autumn. Spring, in fact, is that season of birth and growth. Nature creates its rhythm of life processes through spring.

The winter season is extremely harsh and cold. It can never support life. Throughout the world in several places, terrific snowfall, landslides, and drizzles cause enormous damage to life and mankind. The animal kingdom almost goes into hibernation. No bird chirps and even the smallest insect leaves the place. So when spring arrives every object of the world receives freedom from the terrible cold of the winter.

Spring denotes the movement of the Northern hemisphere of the earth towards the sun. As a result, the northern hemisphere starts receiving sunlight and gets warmer. It is neither too hot nor too cold. The days are longer now. So the birds and animals can now create their nests and homes and gather food. Human beings enjoy the most during spring. They get to enjoy the flowers and the fruits of the trees. They rejoice by celebrating festivals. Spring festivals mark the beginning of life on earth and are one of the most beautiful spectacles in the world.

The festival of colours, Holi, and also Vasant Panchami are prominent in India. The world picture is again more beautiful. Lights, colours, and flowers are extremely important in several European and Asian spring festivals. Different countries become tourist spots during the spring season mainly because of the beautiful weather conditions and flowers like cherry blossoms. Mainly due to the beautiful weather many people also go for vacations.

But every season has its own disadvantages as well. While the season is holistic, it also brings mankind several diseases. Pox, cough and cold, fever, and several gastrointestinal problems occur during this time. It happens because the season lies between summer and winter and so this seasonal transition creates different ailments in mankind.

Whatever it is, we cannot stop enjoying such a beautiful season. It comes for a very short period of time and leaves quickly. Hence with due protection, we can thoroughly enjoy the bliss of spring and experience life growing into flora and fauna. Spring is a time to be celebrated and not denied away.

I have tried to follow a very simplistic approach throughout the lesson for a better understanding of all kinds of students. Spring, often referred to as the season of rebirth, rejuvenation, and regrowth, is a time of immense transformation. As winter’s icy grip loosens, nature awakens from its slumber, offering a spectacular display of colors and life. This essay explores the unique characteristics and significance of the spring season.

The Awakening of Nature

Spring is the season when the earth seems to come alive again. Trees, seemingly lifeless during winter, burst into a riot of green, their leaves unfurling in response to the warmth. Flowers, too, are a quintessential symbol of spring. They bloom in a myriad of colors, painting landscapes with their vibrant hues. This rebirth of flora is not just a visual feast but also signifies the cycle of life, death, and rebirth that every living organism on this planet goes through.

Animal Activity

Spring is also a time of increased animal activity. Animals emerge from hibernation, birds return from their winter migrations, and the air is filled with the buzz of insects. This flurry of activity is a testament to the resilience of life and its ability to adapt to changing conditions.

Symbolism and Cultural Significance

Spring is more than just a season; it’s a symbol of hope and renewal. Many cultures celebrate spring festivals, such as the Holi festival in India or Easter in Christian tradition, symbolizing rebirth and renewal. These celebrations remind us of the cyclical nature of life and the possibility of new beginnings.

In conclusion, spring is a season that signifies renewal and hope. It serves as a reminder that after every hardship comes ease, mirroring the resilience inherent in nature and in us. Thus, the spring season is not just a transition between winter and summer, but a celebration of life itself.

500 Words Essay on Spring Season

Introduction to spring season.

Spring, often referred to as the ‘King of Seasons’, is a period of rejuvenation and rebirth that follows the harsh winter. It is a season that ushers in a sense of renewal, with nature regaining its vibrancy after enduring the winter’s cold.

Significance of Spring Season

Spring is a season of great significance, symbolizing the cycle of life, rebirth, and renewal. It is during spring that the earth seems to come alive again, with plants budding, flowers blooming, and animals coming out of hibernation. The season is often associated with new beginnings and fresh starts, as it is a time when the earth is replenished and rejuvenated.

The Beauty of Spring

Spring is undeniably the most beautiful season, with nature displaying an array of colors and life. The trees get new leaves, flowers begin to bloom, and the overall landscape is transformed into a vibrant and colorful spectacle. The weather is pleasant, neither too hot nor too cold, making it the perfect time for outdoor activities and exploration.

Spring and Human Emotions

Spring has a profound effect on human emotions. The bright colors and pleasant weather can uplift spirits and evoke feelings of joy and happiness. It is a time when people feel more energetic and enthusiastic, inspired by the renewal happening around them. This season, therefore, plays a crucial role in promoting positive mental health.

Spring in Literature and Art

Spring’s influence extends to literature and art, where it has been a popular theme for centuries. Poets and writers often use spring as a metaphor for hope, rebirth, and new beginnings. Painters, too, have been inspired by the vibrant colors and life of spring, creating masterpieces that capture its essence.

Spring and Environmental Concerns

Despite the beauty and joy that spring brings, it is also a time when we should reflect on our relationship with nature. The changing patterns of seasons due to climate change have raised concerns about the future of spring. Unpredictable weather patterns, early or late springs, and the impact on flora and fauna are alarming signs that we need to take action to protect our environment.

In conclusion, spring is a season that brings joy, hope, and renewal. It is a time when nature is at its most vibrant, inspiring positivity and creativity. However, it is also a season that reminds us of our responsibility towards the environment. As we enjoy the beauty of spring, we must also strive to preserve it for future generations.

How to Describe Spring Season in Writing

Metaphorical Language

Metaphorical language is the shimmering tapestry upon which we paint our most profound thoughts and emotions, and in the context of spring, it’s a palette of boundless possibilities.

Spring unfurls like a metaphor for youth, as the world awakens from a long, wintry slumber, reminding us that every dawn brings a fresh start.

It’s a symbol of hope, a reminder that even in life’s darkest winters, there’s the promise of a brighter, more vibrant tomorrow.

Metaphors and similes, like the delicate petals of a flower, allow us to weave intricate narratives, likening the unfurling leaves to an artist’s brushstrokes on the canvas of life or the first rays of sunshine to golden spears piercing the morning mist.

Metaphorical language in the realm of spring is a tapestry of words that transports us beyond the ordinary and into the extraordinary, where nature itself becomes the ultimate source of inspiration.

Comparing spring to other elements or emotions

Comparing spring to other elements or emotions is like translating the symphony of nature into the language of the soul.

Spring is often likened to youth, an era of renewal and endless possibilities, where the world is reborn from its wintry cocoon, much like a child’s eyes shimmer with innocence and curiosity.

It’s a symbol of hope, a beacon of light after the long night of winter, akin to the way hope can pierce through the darkest despair.

Spring can also be seen as a metaphor for resilience, mirroring the way life persists, even in the face of adversity.

In the grand lexicon of emotions and elements, spring is the season of emergence, reminding us that from every frozen slumber, a vibrant and fervent awakening is possible.

The Impact of Seasonal Changes

The impact of seasonal changes is a profound reminder that our world is a living, breathing entity, and each season plays its part in the grand narrative of existence.

As spring gracefully emerges from the frosty cocoon of winter, it ushers in a symphony of transformation. The unpredictable climate dances with the whims of nature, teasing us with bursts of sunshine followed by the gentle embrace of spring rains.

This fluidity imparts a sense of resilience, for just as nature adapts to its ever-changing script, so do we. Yet, beyond the weather, spring’s impact ripples through ecosystems, orchestrating the life cycles of flora and fauna.

The world teems with a vibrancy that radiates hope, reflecting the interconnectedness of all life. Spring reminds us that, even in our human realm, the shifting seasons serve as poignant metaphors for change, evolution, and the enduring power of nature’s artistry.

Climate and weather descriptions

In the realm of spring, climate and weather descriptions become a kaleidoscope of emotions painted across the sky.

This season embodies a paradox, where the weather can change with the capriciousness of a poet’s muse. Sunshine may break through the morning mist like a revelation, casting warmth upon our world, or clouds may gather, weeping gentle spring rain.

It’s a season where sudden gusts of wind can be as playful as childhood laughter, while the unexpected chill in the air serves as a reminder of winter’s lingering shadow.

Spring’s climatic whimsy keeps us on our toes, but it’s precisely this unpredictability that imbues each day with a sense of adventure.

The weather, like the human spirit, is a dynamic force in the tapestry of spring, where nature’s caprices give life its unique flavor and keep us ever-attuned to the beauty of change.

Personal Connection and Perspective

Personal connection and perspective in the realm of spring are the threads that weave our individual stories into the broader narrative of the season.

For some, spring may be a nostalgic embrace, a reminder of childhood play in sun-drenched meadows. To others, it could be a symbol of resilience, mirroring their own journeys of growth and renewal.

The way we perceive and connect with spring is as diverse as the colors in a field of wildflowers. It’s the season that transcends objective beauty, for it’s not only what we see but how we see it that matters.

Spring is a canvas on which our memories, emotions, and dreams are painted, reminding us that the world, with all its vibrancy, is a reflection of the inner landscapes of our hearts.

In these moments of personal connection and perspective, spring becomes not just a season, but a mirror to our souls, a reminder of the ever-evolving stories we write upon the canvas of our lives.

How to Describe Spring Season in Writing

How different people perceive and experience spring

Spring, like a multifaceted gem, reveals itself in various hues through the eyes of different beholders. For some, it’s a season of rekindling romance, when the world blossoms alongside their love stories.

Gardeners view it as a canvas, an opportunity to nurture and coax life from the earth’s embrace. Children greet spring with unrestrained joy, for it promises the return of outdoor adventures and the sweetness of ice cream.

Poets and artists find inspiration in its vivid landscapes, while to others, it may signify a reprieve from winter’s melancholy or a symbol of hope and renewal.

Spring Season Essay

Spring season comes after winter and is the most pleasant season. It is neither cold nor very hot, the weather is moderate with pleasant breeze especially at night. There is natural greenery everywhere, all the trees and plants get new leaves and new flowers bloom all around, there are birds all   around chirping and singing songs, the most favorite among everyone is cuckoo, which keeps on singing throughout the day and is very pleasing and enjoyable.

Kids try to imitate the bird and sing along with it. All the gardens look beautiful and pleasant. There are different types of flowers and leaves all around, the whole atmosphere looks stunning and green. After a long cold and dry winter, spring comes as a relief as one can enjoy the pleasant temperatures and have nice trips and outings. There are lots of poems and songs based on spring season. Spring season varies from country to country, in India spring is from February to April, in most of the western countries it is from March to May. Depending on their weather conditions and temperatures.

Everyone feels fresh and happy at this time. The dull winter has passed and this is the time to rejoice the new season with lots of festivities and celebrations. There are lots of festivals celebrated at this time and is particularly important for farmers.

There are beautiful bees and butterflies all around and they enjoy the gardens full of blooming flowers. Spring is considered as queen of all seasons and is the most beautiful among all seasons.

The winter is very cold and dry making it difficult to go out and move around, the summer has scorching heat which is very irritating and hot, the rainy season is though cold but its all mud and dirt everywhere, there is water all around making to difficult to walk or drive.

Spring is the only season, where weather is pleasant and nice. Everyone like going out and enjoying the sun in the mornings and the cool and pleasant breeze in the night time.

As the spring arrives, the nature looks adorable and amazing, there are new leaves on trees which were shed away during winter, new flowers start blooming on the plants. It is the season of fresh and new flowers and leaves and there is happiness all around.

The days and nights are not too long or short unlike summers or winters. The beauty of nature during spring season makes us forget all our worries and the boring and long winter. People plan different trips and picnics to enjoy the nature and spring vacation.

The refreshing nature gives a good feel and our body and mind starts feeling fresh and energetic. Everyone like to go out either during the day or at night. People indulge in many outdoor activities and have lots of fun, before the scorching summer arrives.

There are many Indian festivals celebrated at this time one of them is Holi , which is the favorite and most enjoyable festival. It is celebrated with colors as a mark of welcoming the spring with colors, signifying how colorful our nature looks at this time. There are different festivals celebrated at different parts of country during this time, thus welcoming the beautiful season.

While in parts of India, there is short spring season due to global warming and summer arrives early or it is hot during February itself, and therefore people are not really satisfied.

Moreover due to lack of trees and gardens we do not get to see the new leaves and blooming flowers, because of which we do not the feel of spring and its beauty.

It is our responsibility and duty to protect our nature and environment to taste all the seasons effectively and equally. Deforestation and pollution ( air pollution and water pollution  ) has made it difficult, rather impossible to enjoy any of the seasons.

Because of lack of trees and proper atmosphere, we do not get to see the beauty of nature and life has become monotonous and boring. Spring is the time to enjoy and have fun in outdoors and get the sun, as we do not get the sun in winter, but in the present times, we do not get the pleasant sun, but it becomes really hot as soon as the winter ends. Thus it becomes very difficult to enjoy the beautiful season.

It is the time to visit new places and have fun in the beauty of nature, and forget all our sorrows and have a nice time in the beautiful nature and weather. To enjoy this beauty, let’s plant more trees and plants and try to reduce pollution, so that all the seasons get equal share and the atmosphere look beautiful as it is supposed to be.

Essay on spring season, This topic is considered one of the light and interesting topics that are frequently mentioned in exams at various educational levels.

In this subject, the student must give free rein to his imagination so that he can describe all the beautiful aspects of nature. He must describe everything he knows or sees of greenery and colors.

That is why we will provide you below with an accurate and detailed description of this special topic, which talks about spring and its beauty.

Essay on spring season

When God created the year, he divided it into four seasons in order to suit the nature of man. Man, by his nature, does not like long routines and gets bored of not changing. If the whole year is one season, people will become bored , and they may suffer from depression and multiple diseases, due to the long duration of the climate.

There is a season called spring, and it is characterized by moderation in climate. This season comes to comfort people after the harshness of winter. In winter, the sun sets and the climate becomes very cold, which causes various diseases to people.

Therefore, spring comes in order for the sun to gradually return and the temperature to rise in a way that prepares people to get out of winter, and then receive a very hot summer after spring.

This means that spring is a preliminary month when people begin to catch their breath and enjoy the look of flowers and wildlife that were hidden from view during the winter.

In the spring, people go out for a walk without feeling too hot or too cold. Among the most beautiful places that are suitable for spring and find great demand, are the public gardens, which become in their most beautiful state with the advent of spring.

Spring season paragraph

Spring season is one of the four seasons of the year. And as we all know that the seasons of the year are different from each other in the climate and the type of crops grown in each season.

The most important characteristic of the spring season is that its climate is moderate between extreme heat and extreme cold.

As we know that winter is the season of cold, rain and snow. In the winter we don’t go out of the house and we can’t move freely.

As for the summer, it is one of the hottest seasons of the year, especially during daylight hours. It is impossible to go outside under the scorching sun. As for the clothes, they are very light and cotton.

As for the most important crops in the spring, they are flowers that bloom intensely and beautifully. We get to know the spring when we smell a good smell in the air, and the smell of flowers and roses dominates the rest of the surrounding atmosphere, so gardens starts in arranging flowers and cleaning herbs to attract visitors on a daily basis.

My favourite season spring essay

My favorite season is the temperate season, where we don’t get too cold or too hot, which is unbearable in many places.

In the winter, the climate is very cold, as we find it difficult to go out of the house or live without warm air conditioning.

As for the summer, it is so hot that we cannot sleep or go out because of the heat of the sun. As for leaving the house, winter and summer are like each other, as we are unable to move and go out freely, whether during the day or at night.

Not going out causes us big problems such as being late for important work dates, or being late for school, which causes a decrease in grades or missing exams due to bad weather.

As for the spring, it comes between winter and summer, as it is characterized by its potential climate. We do not need to use air conditioning, and in the spring we can go to school and work without interruption.

Spring essay

Spring begins on the 21st of March and ends around the 23rd of June as it begins after the summer month. Spring is considered a precursor to the transition from cold to heat.

But if the weather changes from extreme cold in winter to extreme heat in summer, a person will be shocked and sick.

But the gradual transition that occurs during the spring, where temperatures gradually rise, will prepare people for the next season.

This is what doctors say about the benefit of the spring season for humans, because humans have a special nature where their bodies are exposed to fever due to the transition from a cold climate to a hot climate or vice versa.

As a person goes out for a walk in the sun and then returns to bathe in cold water, which causes him to fever and lung diseases, and if he does not receive the correct treatment in this case, he may contract pneumonia or may die.

Spring season essay in English

Several natural phenomena coincide with the advent of spring, including the return of animals, birds, and insects to life. Where most animals spend the winter in their burrows or in the period of hibernation.

Among the most famous animals that hibernate are bears of various kinds, as they hide in burrows and caves for fear of freezing, and feed on the fat accumulated in their bodies until spring comes.

In addition to the spread of a large number of plants, especially those that have a flower, where flowers of all kinds bloom. And we will not forget the plants that bloom and bear fruit in a delightful way.

Unlike autumn, which is the opposite of spring season, which is characterized by the death of plants and the yellowing of all leaves to gradually wither and then fall to the ground.

As for the general form, autumn makes people feel melancholy and sad. This is due to the disappearance of flowers and fruits, and everything turns yellowish-brown.

The season i like most spring essay

When I was young I went on a trip with my friends to the park. When we arrived we found the flowers had bloomed and spread all over the place. The scent of the flowers was so amazing. The atmosphere was fresh and the nature beautiful.

Suddenly we saw large amounts of swarms of butterflies heading towards us. I love butterflies very much but have never actually seen them before. I’ve been seeing pictures of her in comic books and fairy tales. When I saw her in the garden I was very happy.

I asked the teacher why the flowers are blooming and the butterflies are everywhere? She told me that it was spring. I love this attractive season and look forward to it every year, to go to the gardens and enjoy the beautiful scenery that makes me feel calm and courageous.

Descriptive essay on spring season

If you are a color lover, you will not find better than the spring season to see the beautiful colors of nature. In the spring, all countries of the world celebrate holidays that have a special character.

One of the most famous of these holidays is the Spring Festival, in which people paint eggs in all possible colors. After preparing the eggs, they buy salted and dried fish and bread, and some onions and leafy greens must be brought. They gather together to go to public parks for the purpose of spending the day and eating. After the food is finished, the children get to play with the ball or run races.

There are other types of holidays such as Holi, which India is famous for. On this holiday, people wear clothes and go out to the streets. And everyone starts spraying colors on each other randomly while laughing which colors clothes and faces in a beautiful and cheerful way. After spraying the colors, they distribute sweets to each other.

Short essay on spring season

Spring season is the season that enchanted minds and encouraged poets to write the most beautiful phrases that capture the hearts of readers. When the poet goes out to find a topic to write about, he is affected by the beautiful nature

There is no more beautiful nature than the spring season when the earth turns into a green panel decorated with flowers.

Therefore, we find most of the beautiful poems talking about the beauty of flowers and their different colors. There are poems that talk about nature and the sun.

As for the romantic poems in which the writer flirts with his beloved, he likens her to a rose because of the color of her cheeks. Or he uses the famous analogy that his lover’s hair is like a golden sunbeam.

We will not forget the color of the eye, as it resembles its eyes with the clear blue water that flows in the river, or the water that falls from the top of the mountain in the form of a waterfall that attracts attention.

We can imagine a world without spring and its beautiful nature. It will be barren and full of gloom. Spring is the season of happiness and activity, whether for humans or for the rest of the creatures.

10 Classic Spring Poems Everyone Should Read

By Dr Oliver Tearle (Loughborough University)

Spring is a fine season – perhaps the most popular of the four seasons, when it comes to poets and their seasonal choice of subject. Winter has its devotees, but there’s something to be said for spring with its new life, warmer weather, and flowers and trees coming into leaf. Here are ten of our favourite poems about spring, which we reckon are among the finest spring poems in the English language.

William Wordsworth, ‘ Lines Written in Early Spring ‘.

Through primrose tufts, in that green bower, The periwinkle trailed its wreaths; And ’tis my faith that every flower Enjoys the air it breathes.

The birds around me hopped and played, Their thoughts I cannot measure:— But the least motion which they made It seemed a thrill of pleasure…

The Romantic poets often wrote about spring, and Wordsworth’s ‘Lines Written in Early Spring’, whilst not his best-known poem, is a fine example of Romantic poetry about the season. Once more, Wordsworth’s enjoyment of spring is tinged somewhat by an inner sadness, especially when he reflects on ‘what man has made of man’. Quite. Follow the link above to read the full poem and learn more about it.

William Blake, ‘ Spring ‘.

Sound the flute! Now it’s mute! Bird’s delight, Day and night, Nightingale, In the dale, Lark in sky,— Merrily, Merrily merrily, to welcome in the year…

First published in Blake’s  Songs of Innocence  in 1789, ‘Spring’ has the ring of a medieval song about it. The poem celebrates the joy of spring through focusing on some of Blake’s favourite aspects of the season. Everything is in communion with everything else in ‘Spring’: the sound of the flute with the song of the nightingale, the little girl and the little cockerel that both ‘crow’, and the ‘kiss’ that seals the child to the lamb. The human world and the rest of nature are in harmony.

A. E. Housman, ‘ Loveliest of trees, the cherry now ‘.

And since to look at things in bloom Fifty springs are little room, About the woodlands I will go To see the cherry hung with snow…

The second poem from Housman’s bestselling 1896 volume  A Shropshire Lad (a self-published debut that went on to become a sensation), ‘Loveliest of trees’ has many of Housman’s trademark touches: formal metre and rhyme, and a sense of melancholy. The speaker of the poem, at twenty years of age, reflects that he has seen twenty springs come and go, and will probably only see fifty more. So, best make the most of it. Quite right, too. Follow the link above to read the full poem and learn more about it.

Gerard Manley Hopkins, ‘ Spring ‘.

Thrush’s eggs look little low heavens, and thrush Through the echoing timber does so rinse and wring The ear, it strikes like lightnings to hear him sing; The glassy peartree leaves and blooms, they brush The descending blue; that blue is all in a rush With richness; the racing lambs too have fair their fling…

The poet and Jesuit priest Gerard Manley Hopkins (1844-89) wrote many sonnets, including ‘The Windhover’ and ‘God’s Grandeur’ . ‘Spring’ is not as widely known as those, which is a shame – it’s a powerful evocation of the beauty of spring. It is that season, Hopkins reminds us, ‘When weeds, in wheels, shoot long and lovely and lush’. (Few poets could use assonance and alliteration as vibrantly as Hopkins.)

Emily Dickinson, ‘ A Light Exists in Spring ‘.

A Light exists in Spring Not present on the Year At any other period – When March is scarcely here

A Color stands abroad On Solitary Fields That Science cannot overtake But Human Nature feels…

Written in around 1864 but not published until 1896 (as with many of Dickinson’s poems), ‘A Light Exists in Spring’ beautifully captures the way that spring slowly appears in our consciousness, like a light in the distance. The final stanza of Dickinson’s poem also seems to acknowledge what we now call ‘SAD’ or Seasonal Affective Disorder, with the passing of spring affecting our contentedness. Follow the link above to read the full poem and learn more about it.

Alfred, Lord Tennyson, Canto CXV from  In Memoriam .

Now dance the lights on lawn and lea, The flocks are whiter down the vale, And milkier every milky sail On winding stream or distant sea;

Where now the seamew pipes, or dives In yonder greening gleam, and fly The happy birds, that change their sky To build and brood; that live their lives

From land to land…

This canto from Alfred, Lord Tennyson’s long elegy  In Memoriam A. H. H.  (1850) – written in memory of his friend Arthur Henry Hallam who died young – offers a more bittersweet take on the arrival of spring.

What grows in the speaker’s breast as spring comes into blossom is regret – regret that his dear friend is gone, that spring is a reminder that the world continues to turn and life carries on, but Tennyson’s friend does not return. One of the best poems in a great long poetic sequence. Follow the link above to read the poem in full.

William Shakespeare, Sonnet 98 .

From you have I been absent in the spring, When proud pied April dress’d in all his trim Hath put a spirit of youth in every thing, That heavy Saturn laugh’d and leap’d with him…

One of the sonnets addressed to the ‘Fair Youth’, this poem sees Shakespeare bemoaning the fact that he could not appreciate all the beauty of spring around him because he was absent from the young man. As a consequence, spring seemed like a winter to him. This is not as famous as, say, Sonnet 18 (‘Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?’) , which is a shame – it’s a wonderful evocation of spring, and, as with Tennyson, it’s a bittersweet poem about the season. Follow the link above to read the full poem and learn more about it.

Christina Rossetti, ‘ Spring ‘.

There is no time like Spring, When life’s alive in everything, Before new nestlings sing, Before cleft swallows speed their journey back Along the trackless track – God guides their wing, He spreads their table that they nothing lack, – Before the daisy grows a common flower Before the sun has power To scorch the world up in his noontide hour…

This poem describes the way life begins all over again in the spring, and does so through the use of some beautifully vivid images. As with much of Rossetti’s poetry, however, death is never far behind – as with Dickinson’s poem above, there is a melancholy sense of the transient beauty of spring. You can learn more about Rossetti’s life and work here . See the link above to read Rossetti’s poem in full.

Philip Larkin, ‘ The Trees ‘.

This first appeared in Larkin’s final volume,  High Windows , in 1974. As well as his trenchantly sardonic poems about aspects of modern life, Larkin was also a great nature poet, and ‘The Trees’ is a fine brief lyric about the cycle of the seasons but also the sense that each spring is not just a rebirth, but also (shades of Rossetti and Dickinson again here) a reminder of death. The trees’ age is ‘written down in rings of grain’, after all. We have more great Larkin poems here .

Geoffrey Chaucer, ‘ The General Prologue ‘ to  The Canterbury Tales .

Whan that Aprille with his shoures soote, The droghte of March hath perced to the roote, And bathed every veyne in swich licóur Of which vertú engendred is the flour; Whan Zephirus eek with his swete breeth Inspired hath in every holt and heeth The tendre croppes, and the yonge sonne Hath in the Ram his halfe cours y-ronne, And smale foweles maken melodye, That slepen al the nyght with open ye, So priketh hem Natúre in hir corages, Thanne longen folk to goon on pilgrimages…

Okay, well here we haven’t got in mind the  whole  prologue – joyous and masterly as it is. But Geoffrey Chaucer ‘s majestic description of April (complete with its famous showers) is among the most celebrated descriptions of springtime in all English poetry, and it rings as true now as it did over 600 years ago when he wrote it. Follow the link above to read Chaucer’s opening section to his General Prologue in full.

My favourite of these is Wordsworth’s Lines Written in Early Spring, which says something, considering I generally don’t like his work (partly because it is too long and partly because he borrowed everything from his sister’s journal, and he ended up with all the fame). His best poem (in my opinion) is Composed upon Westminster Bridge, and I do kind of like the Daffodils poem.

I’d be interested to know if anyone else is planning on taking part in National Poetry Writing Month coming up in April. I’ll be posting some inspirational posts on my blog – http://www.createdtoread.com , although I’m not brave enough to actually post my poems!

And of course there’s this, from e e cummings:

in Just- spring when the world is mud- luscious the little lame balloonman

whistles far and wee

Reblogged this on Recommended book and blog news, poetry and tarot inspiration and commented: A fine selection of a favourite poesy subject, though I admire Rossetti, she is eclipsed by, to my mind, William Blake in this selection and A E Housman enjoyable as always, which would you vote for?

I tried to guess the choices before looking. ..did pretty well! You say Spring, I say Hopkins!

Reblogged this on nativemericangirl's Blog .

Lovely picks–some I need to acquaint myself with. And soon it will be National Poetry Month!

Spring Season Essay

In India, the weather cycle remains revolving throughout the year. After the intense cold of winter, the pleasant season of spring is welcomed wholeheartedly by everybody. The whole earth looks dressed up in green color.

This golden season begins ‘with Basant Panchami early in February and continues till the end of March. In this season, nature is kind and at full maturity. It gives us joy and pleasure. The trees look lovely and fresh.

The leaves are regained. The bird, which remains silent during winter, starts singing melodious songs. Nature gives a grand feast to our hungry eyes. Everybody wants to embrace the beauty of Nature.

We feel energetic and refresh. Buds of flowers peep to see the beautiful sight of nature. The beauty of flowers is worth seeing. In short, nature invites us to stay and look at it. The. pleasures of the spring season are innumerable. They cannot be described but only felt.

The real beauty is in villages. The mountains, hills, fields all look marvelous. In villages, there is no pollution so the natural beauty gives real pleasure to us. The people of metropolis cities like Mumbai, Delhi, or Kolkata can hardly know the glory of spring, the king of seasons. This season is very useful for farmers. The grains grow speedily in this season.

The sight of green and yellow fields fills the hearts of farmers with Ht Hope and happiness. This lovely season fills our hearts with gratitude to God. We pray to Him for giving us food grains in abundance. truly this is the golden period of the year and we wait for it the whole year.

Photo Essay: My Spring 2024 Semester at CDS

essay on spring in english

Hi there! My name is Isabella Boncser, and I'm currently a sophomore in the six-year Accelerated BS/DPT program in Boston University's Sargent College (2026/2028). In addition to my academic pursuits, I have a passion for photography, and am currently the CDS student event photographer. I love capturing student life within CDS, whether that be taking pictures of students studying in the building on a rainy day, attending 24-hour civic tech hackathon on the 17th floor, or a faculty and staff appreciation event. Over this past semester, I had the honor of working with the CDS communications team, led by Maureen McCarthy , director, and Alessandra Augusto , events & communications manager.

I was asked to highlight some of my best and brightest work from the semester. The following images were captured this spring, and are some of my favorite images. They showcase the versatility of student life within CDS and BU Spark !

essay on spring in english

BU Spark! hosted a Tech For Change Civic Tech Hackathon , where students spent 24 hours at BU to developed a new project with teamwork and technical skills at the forefront. I had the opportunity to meet students from 19 different schools, all of whom spent (literally) day and night on the 17th floor of the Center for Computing & Data Sciences working together and using their hacking skills to create a difference in the world. Pictured here are two students celebrating after discussing their individual projects and asking for some advice regarding their presentations.

CDS serves as home for a variety of people and their furry friends! This image shows Miss Belle, the beautiful English Setter (who loves birds) who shares office space with her owner, Chris DeVits, CDS Director of Administration.

The Center for Computing & Data Sciences truly has a place for everyone at BU. The main level has become the campus living room, where students can meet to chat over coffee, or catch up on emails on the staircase. On a rainy day, students can find a " cozy corner " and focus on their work in a relaxing environment. This is a glimpse of the "sit steps" - the large staircase with over two dozen conversation spaces that has become popular for students to relax and get some work done between classes.

You may have heard people refer to the Center for Computing & Data Sciences as the "Jenga Building" because of its Jenga-like architecture. The building, which is home to the Faculty of Computing & Data Sciences, the Departments of Mathematics & Statistics and Computer Sciences, and the renowned Rafik B. Hariri Institute for Computing and Computation Science & Engineering, embraces its beautiful yet fun architecture while focusing on community! Next time you are craving a fun study break, join the CDS Events Team for a night of Jenga and try some delicious popcorn!

Driving down Commonwealth Avenue, the building stands out amongst its peers and shines bright along the Boston city skyline. Illuminating the streets during dusk, the building is one of my favorites the photograph. The 17th floor is home to many events hosted by CDS faculty and staff, as well as the general BU community.

The students pictured had been working tirelessly on their TFC Civic Tech Hackathon project. This photo exemplifies teamwork, collaboration, and partnership. Although students were working on their projects for 24 hours on the 17th floor of CDS, they were all smiles for the camera during final presentations!

Yoga at the Top of BU has become a staple for students to come and enjoy a one-hour yoga session. The class is open to all students across BU, and is a great way to take a study break and get your body moving. If you are a zen master, or have never taken a yoga class before, come join us for the next session!

The BU Spark! team gathered for a group picture during the Civic Tech Hackathon which took place on the 17th floor in February. Over the Spring 2024 semester, I've had the pleasure of getting to know the ambassadors from each track, and their passion for their work within the BU community is truly inspiring. BU Spark! hosts numerous events, talks, and community-building programs like Cookie O'clock, town halls, and much more. Visit the BU Spark! space on the second floor to learn more about their involvement on campus!

Computational Humanities, Arts & Social Sciences ( CHASS ) hosted a variety of tutorials ranging from "An Analysis on Emerson's Work" to large language model discussions throughout the Spring 2024 semester. These sessions are a great way to learn about the data science industry and how your skills will be used in the real world. Check out the CHASS video tutorial library on YouTube .

I am heading to Dublin, Ireland to live and study abroad for the Fall 2024 semester! I am so thankful to Maureen McCarthy who gave me the opportunity to work with and celebrate the CDS community. I would also like to shoutout Sebastian Bak (QST'25) who recommended the position to me, and spoke so highly of the CDS community!

  30. FY2025-FY2027 Medium-Term Budget

The Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund approved the 2025-27 financial years (FY25-27) medium-term budget. While the global economy has shown resilience to successive adverse shocks, the overall global economic context remains complex with slow and uneven growth, increased fragmentation, deepening divergence, and still high interest rates despite easing inflationary pressures.
