The Teachings of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ

Khutbah al-Hajah: How to begin a Khutbah Sermon in Arabic and English

In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful

Click here for ready-made printable instructions in PDF format

When the preacher ( khatib ) begins his sermon, he should say the following words in Arabic, along with the English translation if the audience primarily speaks English.

Note: This is not the only permissible formula that can be used, but it is popular and in accordance with the authentic Sunnah as recorded in Sunan Ibn Mājah 1892 and Sunan al-Nasā’ī 1578 . Allah knows best.

The preacher should begin, saying:

All praise is due to Allah. We praise him, we seek His help, we seek His forgiveness, and we seek refuge in Allah from the evil within ourselves and our evil deeds. Whoever Allah guides, there is none to misguide him. Whoever Allah leads astray, there is none to guide him. I testify there is no God but Allah alone, without any partners, and that Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, is His servant and His messenger.

Allah Almighty said, “O you who have faith, fear Allah as it is His right to be feared and do not die unless you are Muslims,” (3:102)

And Allah Almighty said, “Fear Allah, from whom you ask each other, and in your family ties, for Allah is ever watchful over you,” (4:1)

And Allah Almighty said, “Fear Allah and speak words as befitting. He will amend your deeds for you and forgive your sins. Whoever obeys Allah and His messenger has achieved a great triumph.” (33:70-71)

The truest word is the Book of Allah and the best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad. The most evil matters are those that are newly invented, for every newly invented matter is an innovation. Every innovation is misguidance, and every misguidance is in the Hellfire.

To proceed (and then begin the sermon)…

You are here

To the opening session of the international islamic conference.

In the name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate, And praise be to God, Lord of all worlds; prayers and peace be upon our master, Muhammad, and on all his house and companions, Distinguished scholars, Honoured ladies and gentlemen,

Peace, God's mercy and blessings be upon you,

It is a real pleasure for me to welcome you at your meeting today in Amman, to discuss the different issues and challenges facing the Muslim Umma (nation). You are most welcome, guests and scholars, for whom we hold respect and appreciation.

Dear Brothers,

Over the ages, Islam has established a basis for better human relations between individuals, nations and peoples, irrespective of differences in religion, colour or gender, on the principles of tolerance and dialogue with others. This was meant for the good of mankind, everywhere, at all times. Yet today, the Umma is defamed, abused and falsely accused when it comes to discussions of the Umma's role in this age.

As a start, let us confess that we, Muslims, have not always fulfilled our obligations towards our religion and towards ourselves. Some Muslims, or those who promulgate “Islamic” slogans, have defamed Islam and Muslims, and harmed Muslims, intentionally or non-intentionally.

The divisions between the children of the Umma, acts of violence and terrorism practiced by some groups and organisations, what is going on in Iraq, Pakistan and other Muslim countries in the form of accusations of apostasy and the killing of Muslims in the name of Islam, do not correspond to the principles and spirit of Islam, and Islam disavows them. Such practices generate turmoil and corruption on earth, because they give justification to non-Muslims to judge Islam according to acts that Islam disavows, and subsequently interfere in Muslims' affairs.

We find it incumbent on us as Muslims, whose hearts are filled with love for God and His Prophet, to be the first to face these unjust campaigns to which Islam is presently subjected, and to be the first to call on fellow Muslims to reject discord and to unite their words and their positions. Thus came the Amman Message which was launched by us in the holy month of Ramadan last year, from the Hashimiyyeen Mosque in Amman. Then we called for convening this conference in which representatives of the eight Muslim schools of thought (Mathahib) congregate from different countries to discuss the many issues and challenges to the Umma and to specify fundamental basic solutions to overcome them.

The first and most important of these challenges is unifying the position of the adherents to the eight Islamic schools of thought: the four Sunni schools, the Ja`fari Shi`i school, the Ibadi school, the Zaydi school and the Thahiri school. We can begin by acknowledging that, in the practice of their faith, the adherents to each of these eight schools of jurisprudence are practicing true Islam, and that declaring any one of them an apostate is unacceptable. Disagreement among scholars (ulama) is a blessing. Let us follow the example of Imam Al Shafi`i's saying: our school of thought is right, but might be wrong, and other schools of thought are wrong, but might be right.

Great Muslim scholars and trusted Muslim authorities issued fatwas – which are familiar to you – affirming that this principle is right and acceptable, because the adherents to the eight schools of thought are in agreement on the fundamental principles of Islam: they all believe in God the Almighty and Sublime, the One and Unique, that the noble Quran is the word of God revealed, and that our master, Mohammad, peace be upon him, is a Prophet and Messenger unto all mankind. All agree on the five pillars of Islam: the two testaments of faith (shahadatayn), ritual prayer (salat), almsgiving (zakat), fasting the month of Ramadan (sawm), the pilgrimage (Hajj) to the Sacred House of God, and also on the foundations of belief: belief in God and His Angels, His Scriptures, His Messengers and the Day of Judgement, in divine providence – good and evil.

Disagreement between scholars is only with respect to some of the ancillary branches of religion (furu') which came into light after the death of our master, the Prophet, peace be upon him. These disagreements originated with matters pertaining to worldly and political affairs of the Caliphate. The fatwas of the prominent scholars of the Islamic Umma also accepted as legitimate all forms of worship practiced by adherents to the eight Islamic schools of thought in accordance with their own Mathab and the Grand Imam of al-Azhar's fatwa included that moderate Sufi thought is acceptable as long as it is based on the two testaments of faith that God is the One and Unique and that Muhammad is Allah's messenger, and as long as it adheres to the five pillars of Islam and the Holy Quran.

Acknowledgement of the schools of jurisprudence within Islam would permit the emergence of a fundamental methodology in the issuance of fatwas, and the definition of who is qualified for this undertaking. This, with God's will, would end the practice of defaming others as apostates and close the door on ignorant people who practice killing and terrorism – of which Islam is innocent – in the name of Islam.

Honourable Scholars,

You meet today with so many issues and challenges facing the Umma on your agenda. You are, with God's guidance, qualified to deal with these issues and challenges, and to define Islam's position on each one of them. Primary among our obligations as Muslims is to present to the world the true essence of Islam – the religion of moderation, forgiveness, mercy and rational, scientific dialogue. Islam is not the religion of violence and terrorism or prejudice and isolation. God Almighty says:

“Call unto the way of thy Lord with wisdom and fair exhortation, and reason with them in the better way. Lo! Thy lord is best aware of him who strayeth from His way, and He is best aware of those Who go aright” (al-Nahl: 125).

Islam provided us with rules to best protect human rights and to guard man's freedom and his human dignity, irrespective of his religion, gender or colour. God Almighty says:

“O mankind! Lo! We have created you male and female, and have made you nations and tribes that ye may know one another. Lo! the noblest of you, in the sight of Allah, is the best in conduct. Lo! Allah is knower, Aware” (al-Hujurat: 13).

Islam emphasised the need to respect the rights of minorities and non-Muslims who live within Muslim society. It established for us a clear methodology to honour relations, conventions and agreements between Muslims and other nations and peoples. God Almighty says:

“And keep the covenant. Lo! Of the covenant it will be asked” (al-Isra' :34).

Islam does not accept prejudice and isolation, but calls upon us to seek scholarship and knowledge. God Almighty says:

“Are those who know equal with those who know not” (al-Zumar:9)

It also calls us to be open to others, and to benefit from their experiences in all fields of life. God Almighty says:

“Ask the followers of the Remembrance if ye know not” (al-Nahl:43).

Distinguished Scholars,

I am confident that you are aware of the challenges facing Muslims today, and of the malicious attack on Islam through slander and misrepresentation due to some Muslims' lack of understanding of the essence of their religion and the ignorance of many non-Muslims of the nature and noble values of our religion.

From this arises the importance of your role and the responsibility you shoulder in unifying the Islamic Umma, with all its schools of jurisprudence and presenting the truth about our faith and its great message.

May God, the Almighty and Sublime, grant all of us success in serving our religion and our Umma and unifying the Islamic nation.

Peace, God's mercy and blessings be upon you.

These English Friday Kutbahs are based on the Quran and Sunnah of the beloved Prophet Mohammad  (ﷺ).  In addition, here you will find authentic Islamic Friday Khutbah, lectures and Gems of wisdom. Additionally, the Friday Khutbahs are delivered during the weekly Muslim Friday Prayers. Moreover, the Friday Khutbahs on this site are designed to engage a wide audience and can be delivered in around ten minutes. Also, you can listen to khutbah. Finally, you can download the khutbah transcript.

Furthermore, seeking religious knowledge is very virtuous in Islam. And the Prophet Mohammad ( ﷺ ) indicated that Allah the Exalted makes the path to Paradise easy for whoever seeks knowledge. Therefore, Gems designed for the busy person. Also, Gems of Wisdom are thoughtful, brief and only take a minute or so to read.

Seeking Islamic Knowledge

Life can be hectic and fly by so fast. Although people have asking for ages “what is the purpose of life?”, people still wonder about it today. Moreover, knowing the answer is crucial to setting your life’s priorities. Genuinely reflecting on these questions will indicate the priority that you place on fulfilling your life’s true mission. It is never too late to reset your priorities.  Gaining knowledge is a key aspect of this even if you have been a Muslim all your life. Below are some links that will help you in your journey. Allah created proofs of His existence within our own selves and all around us. He did not leave us alone to wander blindly guessing on how to worship Him. Throughout the ages, Allah sent Prophets to teach people how to worship him. However, previous Prophets were sent to a specific place and people.

Khutbah al-Haajah

We have received this question a number of times: "What is the Arabic, English transliteration and the English meaning of khutbah al-Haajah? (what the Imam says when he begins the speech). I would like to be able to understand this in English and also learn how to say it myself. Can you help me?" This is what the Imam says when he begins the Jummu'ah Khutbah or speech.   Almost all the scholars of Islam begin their talks with this or something similar to it and we are most pleased to be able to share something about it, inshallah. Different players and connections will act differently: (Cable, Ethernet, DSL, T1) Click Here]

Bismillah Al-hamdu Lillaahi nastaeenahu wa nastaghfiruhu, wa naoodhu billaahi min shuroori anfusinaa wa sayiaati amaalinaa. Man yahdih - Ellaahu falaa mudhilla laahu wa man yudlil falaa haadiya lahu. Wa ashhadu an- laa ilaaha ill-Allaahu wahdahu laa shareekallahu, wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan abduhu wa rasooluhu

(Praise be to Allaah, we seek His help and His forgiveness. We seek refuge with Allaah from the evil of our own souls and from our bad deeds. Whomsoever Allaah guides will never be led astray, and whomsoever Allaah leaves astray, no one can guide. I bear witness that there is no god but Allaah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger).

Then he recited the following three aayaat (interpretation of the meaning):

Yaa ayyuhalladheena aamanu-ttaquLlaaha haqqa tuqaatihi wa laa tamootunna illaa wa antum muslimoon

(O you who believe! Fear Allaah as He should be feared, and die not except in a state of Islam (as Muslims) with complete submission to Allaah.) [Aal Imraan 3:103],

Yaa ayyuhan-naas uttaqu rabbakum alladhi khalaqakum min nafsin waahidatin wa khalaqa minhaa zawjahaa wa baththa minhumaa rijaalan katheeran wa nisaaan wattaqu-Llaah alladhi tasaaaloona bihi wal-arhaama inna Allaaha kaana alaykum raqeeban

(O mankind! Be dutiful to your Lord, Who created you from a single person, and from him He created his wife, and from them both He created many men and women, and fear Allaah through Whom you demand your mutual (rights), and (do not cut the relations of) the wombs (kinship) Surely, Allaah is Ever an All-Watcher over you). [al-Nisaa 4:1],

Yaa ayyahulladheena aamanu-ttaquLlaaha wa qooloo qawlan sadeedan

(Sunan al-Nisaai: Kitaab al-Jumuah, Baab kayfiyyah al-khutbah). The hadeeth scholar, Shaykh Muhammad Naasir al-Deen al-Albaani has devoted a chapter to this topic in which he compiled all its isnaads (narrations) and he commented on it.

Bulletin on Islam and Muslims

Dr Mohammed Farid Ali Al-Fijawi , Hafiz Tajammul Rafiq , Ustadhah Amina Sadika

Assalāmu ‘alaykum wrb, warm greetings and kia ora! Welcome to our first issue of the Bulletin on Islam and Muslims brought to you by Ulul Albāb Islamic Institute New Zealand. In my focus article “the Dawn of Ulul Albab Islamic Institute New Zealand” I am sharing the establishment, vision and mission of Ulul Albāb Islamic Institute New Zealand with the readers. Shaykh Hafiz Tajammul has briefly introduced our after school online Islamic school (madrasah) known as Ulul Albāb Fardul-‘Ayn Madrasah. Fardul-‘Ayn denotes matters essential for individual Muslims. The madrasah focuses on essential subjects that can inculcate and strengthen a sense of Islamic identity in Muslim students who do not have the opportunity to study Islamic studies formally. Shaykhah Aminah Sadika talked about the lifelong learning program of UAIINZ which targets gents and ladies of all walks of life to relearn Islamic teachings and revive their spirituality through specially tailored subjects matching their levels. Assoc. Prof. Dr Nadzrah Ahmad penned the beautiful characteristics and description of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) as depicted by a woman-companion (sahābiyah) Umm Maʿbad ‘Atikah bint Khālid al-Khuza‘iyyah (RA). The Prophet (ﷺ) along with his companions stopped at her place when he was migrating to Madinah. That is when she first saw him (ﷺ) and experienced the miracles that emanated from him. In my article “Why Palestine, Baytul-Muqaddas (Jerusalem) and Masjid Al-Aqsā are Important for Muslims,” I highlighted the biased narratives when it comes to the struggle of Palestinians for freedom. I also presented eight significant points in the light of Qur’an and Sunnah to remind the new generation of the importance of Palestine, Jerusalem and Masjid al-Aqsā for us Muslims. The preservation of Palestine, Jerusalem and al-Aqsā is not based on materialistic, or colonialistic or racist or nationalistic motives, but purely for spiritual and moral objectives. Shaykh Hafiz Tajammul in his article “Understanding the True Essence of Worship (‘Ibādah)” cleared the misconceptions about worship (‘Ibādah). Almighty Allah created humans solely for His worship, but the essence of worship is not limited to rituals such as praying, and dhikr (remembrance of Allah), but it includes ethics, mutual cooperation, love and care for fellow humans, animals and the environment. In the last article, “Importance of Learning Qur’an for the Muslimāt (Muslim Women)” Shaykhah Aminah Sadika explains the importance of learning Qur’an for the Muslimāt. The Qur'an answers and solves the contemporary challenges faced by women. Dignity, real-freedom, identity, self-esteem, and mental wellbeing all can be secured for women who connect themselves to the Qur’an. After the articles, we presented the reports of events and programs UAIINZ accomplished in 2023, followed by the works accomplished, works in progress, presentations, research and publications of UAIINZ academics.

Islam is an essential aspect of humanity's existence. It teaches us how to conduct ourselves in all aspects of life in a morally and legally upright manner. Islam created a welldefined system of laws governing moral behavior, civil and political rights, social issues and rights, marriage and divorce laws, inheritance rights, and all other matters we deal with daily. It serves as a guide to life in all its facets and is not just for the mosque. Since Islam is logical and rational, it keeps a Muslim free from the confusion of any kind. These are some of the main points raised in the paper regarding how Islam is a comprehensive, functional, and practical code of life. Nine major relevant and significant fields have been discussed: the Islamic political system, law and legal system, Jihad, economic system, education system, marriage and family, Islamic society, the mindset, and the hijab. The discussion is analytical and comparative addressing secular ideologies based on Islamic texts and social sciences. The paper establishes that the Islamic system is the alternative system that can replace secular ideologies.

Muslims: Their Religious Beliefs and Practices

Teresa Bernheimer

5th revised, updated and expanded edition of this major textbook on Islam, first published by Andrew Rippin in 1990/1993. "Muslims: Their Religious Beliefs and Practices provides an authoritative overview to both historical and contemporary issues when it comes to how Muslims have understood, interpreted and applied Islam. By its emphasis on complexity, source criticism and internal variations, the book provides a nuanced description that explains past and present developments, as well as dividing lines among Muslims. In this edition, Teresa Bernheimer has carefully revised and updated the late professor Andrew Rippin's earlier editions. By addressing contemporary affairs and how Muslims are perceived in the twenty-first century, this book provides a user-friendly introduction to the study of Islam and its fascinating, but also very complex history." A hard heart is far from Allah, but you do not know. Do not look at the wrong actions of people as if you were lords. Look at your wrong actions as if you were slaves. Some people are afflicted by wrong action and some people are protected from it. Be merciful to the people of affliction and praise Allah for His protection.”  56.3.8 Malik’s Muwatta.

Remember Allah in everything you do. In the beginning of any speech, the confident and strong speaker says Bismillah (In the name of Allah, the most Gracious, the most Merciful), or reads some Quran. Aside from the deeds earned from reciting the Quran and remembering Allah (subhanahu wa tala), it will free yourself from nervousness.

2) Stage Presence – expressing your confidence through non-verbal means. This is achieved through:

  • The strong speaker in his or her ability to overcome difficulties. This confidence will invariably translate to the quality of your demeanor and posture.
  • Take all the Prophets as an example. The strong speaker is knowledgeable about his or her topic. In public speaking, there is no substitute for hard work or researching and grappling with a subject until you are able to speak about it at length, extemporaneously, with limited prompts. This preparation includes frequent rehearsal. Again, if you know that you are prepared to speak, you will find it much easier to relax and present a comfortable but alert posture.
  • The strong speaker knows how to harness nervous energy.
  • Do not lock your arms in front or behind your body. Allow your arms to hang naturally and use them for emphasis just like you would if you were having a conversation. This will require a great deal of practice to perfect.

3) Eye Contact

Good eye contact communicates both personal confidence and respect for your audience. Great speakers, following the guidelines of Islam, make a point of engaging their audiences by moving around the stage and even sometimes around the audience- ensuring that they make eye contact with everyone. * If you do not have the courage to make eye contact with you audience, then the audience will quickly lose interest in your speech.

4) Movement

There are some exceptions, but a speaker should not be static. Movement, as well as gestures, is vital to maintaining speaker and audience enthusiasm for the presentation or lecture. The good speaker follows the 3 principles in ensuring lively (but not irritating) movement. They are:

  • Never turn your back on the audience while you are speaking (great speakers never turn their back. period.).
  • If you are moving about on the stage, make your movements purposeful. Don’t wander about in some geometric lazy pattern. Use your movement to reinforce or emphasize a point. Use it with gestures to draw the audience in or to push them away, depending on the effect that you are trying to achieve at a particular moment.
  • Be aware (or beware) of all potential obstacles on the stage (and off if you leave it).  A fall or trip can be embarrassing and will kill your concentration.

5) Articulation & Vocal Modulation

This one of the most important and difficult element of speech delivery.

Articulation: Some people tend to judge speakers based on their ability to pronounce words correctly and clearly. Unfortunately and especially for most foreigners, this is not something that can be taught in 3 easy lessons. If you have difficulty pronouncing certain words you need to (in the short term) limit your vocal vocabulary. In the long term, you will need to acquaint yourself with the correct method of using a dictionary to facilitate proper pronunciation.

Voice modulation: Good speakers do three things with their voices to maintain audience interest

  • Be enthusiastic. This will communicate your interest and excitement for you topic and help generate audience interest, too.
  • Exaggerated voice inflection. Inflection in conversational speaking is difficult to detect when you are speaking in front of an audience. Exaggerate inflections when you are making points/demonstrating some kinds of emotion appropriate to the emotions that are trying to stir in you audience.
  • Do not speak in a monotone! Monotone does not necessarily mean speaking in a low, drowning voice. Some speakers speak in a loud monotone, and worse yet, some yell in monotone. You must modulate your speaking (see 1 & 2 above) at whatever volume that you are speaking at, whether loud, medium, or soft/low.

6) Questions

Depending of what type of speech it its, allow the audience to ask questions. Answering positively will get the point through.

7) End with an Ayah/Hadith, a duaa of your choice, or whatever applies to your speech

This does not guaranteed automatic success. Learn from your mistakes and try not to repeat them next time. By practicing you will become a better communicator. Insha’Allah, these tips will help you in your upcoming presentations or lectures at school, work, or masjid.

Indeed the best speech is the speech of Allah, and the best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad (S) . And the worst of matters are those innovated by the people, and every innovated matter is a bid’ah and every bid’ah is astray, and every going astray is in the fire.

BarakaAllahu feeki – very good article, I came across it by chance.

You know one thing I’d add is to remember that Allah guides and not the speaker. Sometimes those who are given a platform to express themselves expect immediate results as a result of their speech. This is never the case, it is only Allah who can open the door of acceptance in someone’s heart. The speaker’s job is to convey to the best of his ability and not expect anything as a result of his speech – but only as a result of Allah’s guidance.

O Allah guide us and guide thru us!

Prophet Muhammad: A Mercy For All Creation

islamic speech introduction in english

"Indeed, in this [Quran] is notification for a worshiping people. And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], except as a mercy to the worlds." (Quran: 21:106-107 )

God's Messenger was the kindest of men in the same way as he excelled all others in courage and valor. Being extremely kind-hearted, his eyes brimmed with tears at the slightest sign of inhumanity.

Aishah the wife of the Prophet narrates that the Messenger of God said:

God is Kind and He loves kindness, and confers upon kindness which He does not confer upon severity, and does not confer upon any thing besides it (kindness). -Muslim

A Mercy for the Believers

The Messenger's compassion towards the believers was of the utmost degree. The Quran describes his compassion in the following verse, which means:

- لَقَدْ جَاءكُمْ رَسُولٌ مِّنْ أَنفُسِكُمْ عَزِيزٌ عَلَيْهِ مَا عَنِتُّمْ حَرِيصٌ عَلَيْكُم بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ رَؤُوفٌ رَّحِيمٌ

"There has certainly come to you a Messenger from among yourselves. Grievous to him is what you suffer; [he is] concerned over you [i.e., your guidance] and to the believers is kind and merciful." (Quran: 9:128 )

Sa'd bin 'Ubaadah once became ill, so Allah's Messenger visited him in his house. On seeing his faithful Companion in a pitiful state, he was moved to tears. Then, he said: "Allah does not punish because of tears, nor because of grief, but he punishes because of this."- and he pointed to his tongue. (Al-Bukhari)

A Mercy Towards his Enemies

The prisoners of war taken captive at the battle of Badr were amongst his bitterest enemies. Nevertheless, he made sure that they were given the best of treatment. Among them was Suhayl bin 'Amr who was a fiery speaker and was denouncing the Prophet. 'Umar one the Prophet's closest companions, suggested that two of his lower teeth be pulled out so that he might not be so vile in his speeches. The Prophet replied: "Were I to do this, Allah would disfigure me on the Day of Judgment, despite the fact that I am His messenger." (Hadith)

In Makkah, his people inflicted him with every kind of suffering, eventually forcing him to emigrate to Madinah, and then waged war on him for five years. However, when he conquered Makkah without bloodshed in the twenty-first year of his Prophethood, he asked the Makkan unbelievers who were awaiting his decision about them: "How do you expect me to treat you?" They responded unanimously: "You are a noble one, the son of a noble one." He announced to them his decision: "You may go free! No reproach this day shall be on you; may God forgive you."

A Mercy for Women

Prophet Muhammad was also very kind and affectionate towards women. Women were very badly treated in those times. The Noble Prophet gave them honor and dignity at par with men in the community. 'Umar reported: "We did not have much regard for women while we were at Makkah, but they were better treated in Madinah. Allah's Messenger established women's rights through his sayings and commandments, which improved their position and status."

A Mercy for Children

Allah's Messenger was particularly compassionate towards children. When he saw a child crying, he sat beside him or her and shared his or her feelings. He felt the pain of a mother for her child more than the mother herself. Once he said: "I stand in prayer and wish to prolong it. However, I hear the cry of a child and cut the prayer short for the anxiety which the mother is feeling." (Al-Bukhari)

He would take children in his arms and embrace them. He was once hugging his beloved grandsons, Hasan and Hussain, when Aqrah bin Haabis told him, 'I have got ten children. So far, I have not kissed any of them.' Allah's Messenger responded: "The one with no pity for others is not pitied." (Al-Bukhari and Muslim) According to another version, he said: "What can I do for you if Allah has removed from you the feeling of compassion?" (At-Tirmidhi)

A Mercy for Animals

His compassion encompassed not only human beings, but also animals.

The Prophet forbade his companions to keep the unintelligent creatures hungry or thirsty, to disturb or to overburden them. He commended that kindness and putting them at ease were meritorious acts tending to bring man nearer to Allah. Abu Hurairah reports the Prophet as saying: "A traveler who was thirsty saw a well in the way. He got inside the well and when he came out he saw a dog licking mud due to thirst. The man realized that the dog was as thirsty as him, so he got into the well again, filled his leather sock with water and carried it out holding it with his teeth. Thus, he quenched the thirst of the dog. Allah was pleased with this act of kindness and pardoned his sins." The Companions asked: "O Messenger of Allah is there recompense in the matter of beasts and wild animals also?" The Prophet replied: "There is recompense in regard to every creature that has a living heart."

'Abdullah bin 'Umar related that the Prophet said: "A woman was cast away to hell only because she had withheld food and water from her cat and refused to set it free so that the cat might satisfy its hunger by eating worms and insects."

Once on return from a military campaign, a few Companions took away the chicks of a bird from their nest to stroke them. The mother bird came back and when it could not find its chicks in the nest, it began to fly around screeching. When informed of the matter, Allah's Messenger became angry and ordered the chicks to be put back in the nest. (Abu Dawood)

The love and compassion of Allah's Messenger for all kinds of creatures was not of the kind claimed by today's 'humanists'. He was sincere and balanced in his love and compassion. He was more compassionate than any other person. He was a Prophet raised by Allah, the Creator and Sustainer of all beings, for the guidance and happiness of conscious beings - mankind and jinn - and the harmony of existence. Therefore, he lived not for himself but for others; he is a mercy for all the worlds.

His Excellency the Grand Imam’s Opening Speech to the Forum of Promoting Peace in Muslim Societies,

United arab emirates.

His Excellency the Grand Imam’s Opening Speech to the Forum of Promoting Peace in Muslim Societies,

In the Name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful. All praise and thanks be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds. May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon Prophet Muhammad, the unlettered prophet, his family and his Companions.

His Excellency/ Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al -Nahian- sponsor of the forum.

Honorable scholars, distinguished thinkers and intellectuals!

As-salamu alaukum wa rahamt Allah wa barakaatuh!

At the beginning of my speech, I would like to thank and appreciate the role of the government and people of the United Arab Emirates for holding this forum and for being keen to hold it every year in the presence of advocates of peace and humanity from all over the world.

I would like also to express my gratitude and appreciation to my elder brother Sheikh Abdullah bin Bayyah, the chairman of the forum, for his great efforts in the preparation of this forum, hoping it would achieve its objectives and aims.

If the agenda limited the purpose of this forum to re-identify the culture of peace and explain its central position in Islam through an accurate reading of the revelation texts and the predecessors' heritage would be undoubtedly one of the noblest purposes which specialists should have to do. This is necessary in order to eliminate the stains that categorically covered jurisprudence of peace because of the inadequate understanding and interpretations which led some groups among Muslims to fight against their own societies and people, not against the enemies.

Yes, we are in a dire need of an honest review and critical reading to these concepts in our Islamic heritage to clarify their meanings to the pupils and the university students in study curricula to protect Arab and Muslim youth from falling as a prey to such armed groups. Our forum must call on specialists to agree upon a clear strategy with regards to aims and objectives to pull out youth from the state of chaos and intellectual and creedal instability regarding the realization of the pillars of religion and the main issues of belief and morals to a state of faith stability, calmness and correct understanding of the religion that contributed to establishing a world civilization, human fraternity and world association. Such a civilization that was not to be spread from west to east in a very short period of time -that puzzled scholars of history and civilization till today- if not based on the principle of promoting peace among people. This civilization would not spread if the prophet of this civilization was not sent as a mercy for humankind. In truth he was not only sent as a mercy for Muslims or humanity but also he was sent as a mercy for all creatures. Allah said "We have not sent you (Prophet Muhammad) except as a mercy to all humankind'' (Al-Anbiyaa: 107). Mercy requires peace. Moreover, mercy and peace are two-sided coin and I do not think there is a religion or even a constitutional or social system that bestowed mercy and protected the blood of people as the Prophet of Islam did.

It is certain that The Glorious Quran is the only book that puts upon killers two punishments: legal retribution in this life and severe torture in the hereafter. It suffices that The Quran views killing one soul unjustly as killing the whole mankind, and whoever saves one soul, it is as if he saved mankind entirely. In this regard Allah says, "Because of that, We decreed upon the Children of Israel that whoever kills a soul unless for a soul or for corruption [done] in the land - it is as if he had killed mankind entirely. And whoever saves one - it is as if he had saved mankind entirely. And our messengers had certainly come to them with clear proofs. Then indeed many of them, [even] after that, throughout the land, were transgressors. (Al-Ma'ida: 32). Islam also prohibits terrifying people even if it was as a means of joking and humor. The prophet (PBUH) said "He who pointed a weapon towards his brother, the angels invoke curse upon him even if he is his real brother so long as he does not abandon it (the pointing of weapon towards one's brother Muslim)". The Prophet also said "It is not lawful for a Muslim that he frightens a Muslim". The prophet's mercy also included animals. When he saw a camel shedding tears and was

extremely exhausted, he called its owner who was a young boy from al-Ansar saying, "Don’t you fear Allah about this beast which Allah has given in your possession. It has complained to me that you keep it hungry and load it heavily which fatigues it.”

Honorable brothers, we should not deny this lively contact between prophets and other living creatures including animals, plants and inanimate beings, on the pretext that people heard not about animals talking to a human and complaining to him. If you want to know the relation between human and living creatures in Islamic perspective, you will be astonished to know that the universe with all its worlds is not a dead or inanimate being deprived of consciousness or suitable life as stated in the Ever-Glorious Qur'an. The Ever-Glorious Qur'an frankly indicates that everything in the universe worships, praises and prostrates to Allah even if we do not have the ability and consciousness that make us realize these praises and prostration. We have many verses in this context. Also many Suras begin with that fact. Human mind cannot perceive this praise or prostration from a dead of no life "And there is not a thing except that it exalts [Allah] by His praise, but you do not understand their [way of] exalting. Indeed, He is ever Forbearing and Forgiving".(Al-Isra: 44) "Do you not see that to Allah prostrates whoever is in the heavens and whoever is on the earth and the sun, the moon, the stars, the mountains, the trees, the moving creatures and many of the people?" (Al-Hajj: 18) "We gave David bounty from Us. 'O mountains, and birds, echo (the praise of Allah) with him. And We softened iron for him," (Saba: 10).

Consequently, we can understand the Prophet's saying as recorded by Imam Muslim "I recognize a stone in Mecca which used to pay me salutations before my advent as a Prophet and I recognize that even now." Having these decisive texts, it becomes clear that the relation between a Muslim and the others –in light of the philosophy of Islam- is based on fellowship and Companionship, even if this other is a human, an animal, plants or inanimate beings. This kind of relation is based first of all on the principles of peace and communication. From this point, in particular, Islam does not allow killing at all, except in the case of facing up aggression or for a right prescribed by Allah, the Exalted, through a text that is decisive in its narration and meaning. Hence, we can understand why Islam has prohibited killing the weak in the enemy camp, prevented destroying their buildings, burning their trees and killing their bees and animals except in case of necessity for eating. This necessity even must be measured by due

circumstances. In light of these instructions, Muslims are not perceived to commit aggression or be violent, and this was why the famous man of letter (Mustafa al-Rafi’y) said, "Muslims’ swords have morals."

Honorable gathering,

The mission of the revival of "the jurisprudence of Peace" in the religion of Islam –in the fundamentals and heritage of Islam- is no longer a possible option; rather, it is most likely now to be the life buoy. It was a good idea from this forum to bear the responsibility of collecting such jurisprudence and explaining it to all people alike. At the same time, I recommend that the forum carries out, in parallel, another task, I mean to collect books and magazines published by armed terrorist groups especially via electronic media. These books and magazines are published in different languages other than Arabic language and cause an imminent danger to youth. These books and articles must be collected, classified and criticized. There is a third factor which is to identify the creedal principles that form the bases of the armed groups, particularly, the principle of Takfeer (labeling Muslims as disbelievers). These groups have laid out rules for the principle of Takfeer in their literature and could therefore misguide a large number of Muslim youth in the east and the west.

Honorable gathering, It is grievous to have many books and publications by the so-called scholars discussing the issue of Takfeer. They differentiate between permissible takfeer, that is the Takfeer of unspecified person, and the other sort which is the Takfeer of a specified person; this later kind, according to them, is permissible on certain conditions. These sayings altogether are not suitable for our Ummah’s circumstances and do not support the issue peace that we all pursue. We do not discuss here the issue of the Takfeer of specified or unspecified persons. The Holy Quran and Sunnah did not mention this classification and it was only mentioned by later scholars and therefore, it may be accepted or rejected. We have to warn that some fatawa (plural of Fatwa: religious decisions issued by certain jurists, in the past, were given in response to exceptional circumstances that are not comparable to our circumstances nowadays. The issue of

Takfeer is the best example of our point of view. Today, we find armed terrorist groups depend on the rulings they quoted from Ibn Taimiyyah and Ibn Katheer "may Allah have mercy with them" which stipulate that "declaring the testimony that there is no God but Allah and that Mohammad is the Messenger of Allah" is not sufficient for saying that this person is a Muslim. Rather this declaration must be joined by the complete submission and defending Muslims, the Muslim state and the Shari’ah. If a Muslim does not fulfill this condition, he will be regarded as a disbeliever and must, therefore, be fought against.

The correct meaning of this misunderstood statement of Ibn Taimiyyah is that: he "may Allah have mercy with him" said these words in the seventh and eighth century (A.H.) while he was engaging in facing bloody violent battles between Muslims and Tatars, who conquered Baghdad, ancient Syria and reached Egypt where they were defeated in the battle of "Ain Jalut". At this time the Tatars proclaimed Islam and cancelled their disbelief. Besides, the leaders of Muslim countries did not find any harm to seek their help to control their lands. In this atmosphere, Ibn Taimiyyah said that it was necessary for testimony to be accompanied by deed to distinguish Muslims from others (pretending to be Muslims) who conspired against Muslims and killed them. Now, the question is how can we compare our Islamic societies now to the societies where Muslims and non-Muslims were unidentified? Can we use the same ruling that suited Muslim societies in the seventh and eighth century (A.H.) to apply it for Muslim societies in the 21st century? And how can we neglect all these political and juristic differences and contexts and allow them to appear again to provide justifications for Takfeer groups to proclaim Jihad against societies that perform prayer, pay zakat (Alms giving), fast on Ramadan and perform pilgrimage to Allah’s sacred House? How to neglect the consensus of the jurists which that a fatwa changes according to conditions, circumstances, place and time?

This bloody chaos – that takes from the idea of Takfeer evidence – requires mobilization of scholars’ efforts to face this sedition in all capitals of the Arab world, or even at every town. This shall not be achieved unless we directed our efforts to the field of education especially pre-university education. We hope to have a meeting in which those in charge of education in the Arab world and education in religious institutes put common scholarly Curricula based on the opinion of the majority of scholars in forbidding Takfeer in clear terms. These curricula must be serious and focus on correcting these misconceptions intellectually and educationally all over Arab world. Such meeting has become an urgent necessity because giving due care to education and educational discourse is more important than giving due care to addressing crowds because the majority of people are still fortified against the culture of Takfeer, unlike the new generations who depend on electronic media in gaining knowledge. It is known that these media are completely penetrated by these groups that target the youth from secondary and university stages of education.

Honorable brothers,

finally, I would like to say that the campaigns launched in mass media against the religious discourse, as the only factor for the appearance of (ISIS) and other terrorist groups, are superficial campaigns as they limit the causes behind these groups only to the religious discourse, ignoring other hidden factors that made those youth adopt armed violence as a methodology and as a last and desperate solution for changing their societies. The consecutive drawbacks, especially the political, psychological and economic drawbacks, in addition to the culture of marginalization, which this generation suffered from at more than one level, all have clearly contributed to the feeling of despair and frustration. The religious discourse is not the only solution but it is a part of solving the problem as there are different kinds of discourses: political, economic, educational, cultural, media and artistic discourses; all theses discourses were means of destruction for

people's hopes and dreams; all these discourses requires reformation not less than the religious discourse does.

Thanks for your attentive listening!

What to say at beginning and end of religious lesson

islamic speech introduction in english

Assalaamu alaykum. I am planning to have a little gathering with my children every day in which we reflect upon Islam and read Quran and hadiths and talk about our religion for at least 10 minutes every day. This is because I want us to spend more time on our religion, connect with it, and increase our knowledge and faith. I do not know what this type of 'gathering' is called, but some people in my family call this 'Ta'leem'. I was wondering, before I start this gathering, is there something that I should say in the beginning before I start talking about Islam? And when I am finished, is there something that I have to say before finishing? I am asking because when I see Islamic lectures on the internet, the scholars say some supplication before starting and before finishing their lecture. I want to do this perfectly so that my children, Allaah willing, learn correctly.

Firstly, we would like to commend your keenness on studying religion with your children. This is a good gesture on your part; we implore Allaah to accept your righteous deed.

You should start your session with the Basmalah (i.e. saying Bismillaah Ar-Rahmaan Ar-Raheem; which means: 'In the name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Ever Merciful') and recite Khutbat Al-Haajah: 'Alhamdulillah nahmaduhu wa nastaʻeenuhu wa nastaghfiruhu, wa naʻoothu billaahi min shuroori anfusina wa min sayyi'aati aʻmaalina, man yahdih-illaahu fala mudhilla lahu wa man yudhlil fala haadiya lahu, wa ashhadu alla ilaaha illa Allaah wahdahu la shareeka lah, wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan ʻabduhu wa rasooluh.' (Which means: Praise be to Allaah! We praise Him, We seek His help and His forgiveness. We seek refuge with Allaah from the evils of our souls and our misdeeds. Whomever Allaah guides will never be led astray, and whomever Allaah leads astray, no one can guide. I bear witness that there is none worthy of worship but Allaah, alone without partners unto Him, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.) Then you should recite the following verses of the Quran:

Allaah, The Exalted, says (what means):

- { O you who have believed, fear Allaah as He should be feared and do not die except as Muslims (in submission to Him). } [Quran 3:102]

- { O mankind, fear your Lord, Who created you from one soul and created from it its mate and dispersed from both of them many men and women. And fear Allaah, through whom you ask one another, and the wombs. Indeed, Allaah is ever, over you, an Observer. } [Quran 4:1]

- { O you who have believed, fear Allaah and speak words of appropriate justice. He will (then) amend for you your deeds and forgive you your sins. And whoever obeys Allaah and His Messenger has certainly attained a great attainment. } [Quran 33:70-71]

When you finish the session, you should conclude it with praising Allaah and reciting the supplication to be recited at the end of every assembly: "Subhaanaka Allaahumma wa bihamdika, Ashhadu allaa ilaaha illaa anta, astaghfiruka wa atoobu ilayk." (O Allaah, You are free from every imperfection; praise be to You. I testify that there is none truly worthy of worship except You; I ask Your forgiveness and turn to You in repentance.)

Lastly, we implore Allaah to help you provide a good upbringing for your children upon what He loves and what pleases Him and that He helps you sow the seeds of knowledge, righteousness, and piety within them.

Allaah knows best.

Press esc to close, dua for beginning a speech,”innalhamdalillah nahmaduhu”, dua for beginning a khutba or before beginning a lesson: “innalhamdalillah nahmaduhu”.

Why do we recite a Dua before speech?

Starting a talk with a dua is seeking the help of Allah and glorifying Allah before a praiseworthy action of imparting ilm. It also helps to create a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere, promoting a sense of togetherness among the audience members and reminds the speaker of the importance of gratitude and humility.

For students and teachers alike, the commencement of each lesson marks an opportunity to seek Allah’s blessings and wisdom. Among the most frequent recited supplication by the asatizas is the invocations “Innalhamdalillah Nahmaduhu,” a prayer that expresses gratitude to the Almighty and beseeches His guidance.

Stories for Muslim Kids

Short stories for muslims of different ages, starting du’aa (in a gathering).

It is narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:

“A statement that does not begin with praise of Allah and blessing upon me, remains deficient and bereft of blessings.”  (Abu Dawud, 13/184)

Here are 4 suggestions on how one could start one’s speech in a gathering, in shaa Allah. Suggestion 1 is the longest. Suggestion 4 is the shortest. (You may use any of these or a combination of any of these suggestions.):

• Wassalaatu wassalaamu ‘alaa rasoolillaah wa ‘alaa aalihee wa saHbihee aj-ma’een. (And [O Allah, please give your] favour/blessings and peace upon the Messenger and all of his family and his companions.)

Source: https://abuaminaelias.com/dailyhadithonline/2011/12/26/khutbah-al-hajah-how-to-begin-a-khutbah-sermon-in-arabic-and-english/

All thanks and praise is due to Allah. We seek His help and forgiveness, and we seek refuge in Allah from the evil within ourselves and the consequences of our evil deeds. Whoever Allah guides will never be led astray, and whoever Allah leads astray will never find guidance. I bear witness there is no God but Allah, alone without any partners, and I bear witness that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is His servant and His Messenger.

Allah Almighty said, “ O you who have faith, fear Allah as it is His right to be feared and do not die except as Muslims ” (3:102)

And Allah Almighty said, “ O people, fear your Lord, who created you from one soul and created from it its mate and dispersed from both of them many men and women. Fear Allah, through whom you ask one another and maintain family ties. Verily, Allah is ever watching over you .” (4:1)

And Allah Almighty said, “ O you who have faith, fear Allah and speak upright words. He will correct your deeds and forgive your sins. Whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger has won a tremendous victory .” (33:70-71)

Verily, the most truthful speech is the Book of Allah, the best guidance is the guidance of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and the worst of affairs are newly invented matters. Every newly invented matter is a religious innovation, and every religious innovation is misguidance, and every misguidance is in the Hellfire.

To proceed (and then begin the sermon).

Studio Arabiya

Studio Arabiya

In the vibrant tapestry of Islamic culture and spirituality, language plays a profound role. The rich linguistic heritage of Islam is adorned with phrases that encapsulate the essence of faith, serve as daily affirmations, and foster a deep connection between Muslims worldwide. In this exploration, we will delve into some of the common phrases in Islam , shedding light on their meanings, cultural significance, and the everyday contexts in which they are used.

Introduction

Islam, being a global religion with a diverse community, has a linguistic landscape that reflects its universal appeal. The phrases used by Muslims daily serve as a bridge, connecting believers across borders and cultures. These expressions are not just words; they are manifestations of faith, carrying layers of meaning that resonate in the hearts of millions.

Foundations of Language in Islam

Before we embark on our journey through common Islamic phrases, it’s essential to understand the foundations of the Arabic language in Islam. Arabic holds a unique status as the language of the Quran, the holy book of Islam. Consequently, many common phrases in Islam find their roots in the Arabic language.

The linguistic legacy of Islam extends beyond religious texts, permeating daily life, prayers, and interactions. Let’s explore some phrases that echo through the corridors of mosques, homes, and hearts.

1. Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim

The utterance of this phrase marks the beginning of numerous activities in a Muslim’s day. From starting a meal to embarking on a journey, “Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim” invokes the name of Allah, seeking His blessings and mercy. It’s a reminder of the divine presence in every aspect of life.

2. Assalamu Alaikum: Peace Be Upon You

A universal greeting among Muslims, “Assalamu Alaikum” fosters a sense of peace and unity. Responded to with “Wa Alaikum Assalam,” this exchange encapsulates the essence of harmony and goodwill that Islam promotes.

3. Alhamdulillah: All Praise is Due to Allah

Expressing gratitude is a cornerstone of Islamic faith, and “Alhamdulillah” is the perfect embodiment of this principle. Whether acknowledging a blessing or overcoming a challenge, Muslims turn to this phrase to express their gratitude to the Creator.

4. Insha’Allah: If Allah Wills

This phrase reflects the Islamic understanding that all plans and actions are subject to the divine will. “Insha’Allah” is a humble acknowledgment that our efforts are contingent upon Allah’s approval, emphasizing the importance of humility and submission in the face of life’s uncertainties.

5. SubhanAllah: Glory Be to Allah

When marveling at the beauty of creation or witnessing an extraordinary event, Muslims often exclaim “SubhanAllah.” This phrase acknowledges the greatness of Allah and serves as a reminder of His infinite power.

6. Masha’Allah: Whatever Allah Wills

Similar to “Insha’Allah,” “Masha’Allah” is an expression of acknowledgment and appreciation. It is often used to commend someone’s achievements while attributing the success to the divine will.

7. Astaghfirullah: I Seek Forgiveness from Allah

In moments of reflection and repentance, Muslims turn to “Astaghfirullah” to seek forgiveness from Allah. This phrase underscores the importance of humility and the acknowledgment of human fallibility.

8. JazakAllah Khair: May Allah Reward You with Goodness

Expressing gratitude in a profound manner, “JazakAllah Khair” is used to thank someone with the hope that Allah will reward them with goodness. It reflects the Islamic ethos of recognizing and appreciating acts of kindness.

In this brief exploration of common phrases in Islam, we’ve merely scratched the surface of a vast linguistic ocean. The phrases mentioned here are not just linguistic tools; they are the threads that weave the fabric of Islamic identity. As Muslims across the globe continue to use these expressions in their daily lives, the language of Islam remains a powerful unifier, transcending cultural and geographical boundaries.

In the pursuit of understanding these phrases, one gains not only linguistic insights but also a deeper appreciation for the spiritual and cultural nuances embedded in the Islamic way of life. As we navigate our own linguistic landscapes, may these common phrases in Islam serve as beacons, guiding us towards a greater understanding of faith, community, and the divine.

Teachers Day Speech in Hindi 2024:
