As a companion piece, I'd also recommend "5 days in London, May 1940" by Lukacs. I think the official biography started by Randolf Churchill and completed by Martin Gilbert is the best. Gilbert also wrote a shorter version. I've only read one Churchill biography which really sucked, but I don't remember the name.
