There is no doubt that modern movieland is ready to meet your every need. What kind of films do you prefer? Ones that calm you down and make you feel the sorrow, or ones that make you break into a cold sweat and shake with fear? If the latter is about you, you must have heard about Lights Out , a horror movie that came out a few months ago. This movie from James Wan received plenty of enthusiastic reviews due to its cast of characters, its sustained style, and the key idea that sounds familiar to everyone: childhood fears. Is it worth watching? Let’s see!

The movie tells us the story of a family that has to deal with the mysterious creatures generated by the power of horror. Everything seems to be ordinary in the light of day, but as the night falls, an unknown terror comes out. The main female character, named Rebecca, has been experiencing strange hallucinations since her childhood. Leaving her mother’s house, she believes that she has managed to conquer her childhood fears, but it turns out to be just an illusion. Rebecca feels trapped every time it gets dark, and she is a prisoner kept in a world of delusion, a world of soul-chilling terror that leaves her only at the crack of dawn. The fears that used to make her blood turn to ice are still alive; they are waiting patiently for the right moment to appear again and take her back to the cell of terror and despair. They are in the driver’s seat when the lights are off. Rebecca’s mother, Sophie, experiences a collapse after seeing what is happening to her dear daughter. Rebecca’s younger brother then gets carried away as he begins to see the creatures that made a hell out of Rebecca’s life. With the lapse of time, her fears become more and more obsessive, and the only way out for Rebecca is to fight to the bitter end. Trying to solve the puzzle, she realizes that friendly settlement is impossible. She is dead set on saving her family from death, but will she manage to do it before it is too late?

I believe this movie to be quite an interesting one as it touches upon the topic of the irrational childhood fears that were experienced by most people. If you find it to be more appropriate for comedy rather than a horror film, I would recommend that you remember your childhood fears and imagine all of them coming back together in the darkness. What is more, the movie was highly appreciated by audiences as its box sales revenue appeared to be enormous when compared to its modest budget. As for the cast, I enjoyed their acting as it looked very convincing. The film itself was made by certain traditions of horror movies, such as specific sounds, many jump cuts, and subdued colors. It is impossible to film a movie that will not be called a dime a dozen at least once, and I realize that Lights Out may appear to be boring for some of the fans of horror films. In general, I would recommend watching this movie to those who are looking for something mysterious and exciting.

             I went to the movie theater expecting to see a very funny movie. One reason why I expected this movie to be funny was that it was co-stared and co-written by the Wayans brothers (Shawn and Marlon), considered the best comedians in Hollywood. Sadly, my expectations were not met and I was very disappointed with the movie              Not to be entirely brutal and to give it some credit there were very few scenes that were hilarious. There were some scenes that will make you laugh out loud but for the majority of the film, most jokes will only bring slight smiles and giggles. But after the movie, I wanted to refund my money and the one-hour and thirty-minutes of my life that I lost in watching the movie. Scary Movie is the stupidest comedy film I have ever seen.              One thing I found stupid about the movie was its plot. The plot of this film is one that you might be familiar with. A group of teenager hit someone by a car accidentally. The next year, someone starts killing them and they suspected that it has something to do with the accident. After the first victim was found dead, the whole thing becomes one big news and a reporter joins in the hunt to get the story first. Yes, you guess it right! The plot was just taken from the movies "Scream" and "I Know What You Did Last Summer" and then combined! There were six writers for this film and they could not come up with a better plot instead of copying from another movies!              As for the scenes in the movie, it doesn't have one that its own. All scenes in the movie were taken from another movie and then spoofed. The movie managed to spoof numerous films (Blair Witch, Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, The Matrix, etc.) in the 90 minutes it played. During their disappearance, the students were making a documentary about a woman accused of witchcraft in 1785, she was banished from Blair Township and later all her accusers disappeared, and she was accused of the disappearance. The students were trying to uncover the legend of the Blair Witch.

The film commences with the introduction of the students as they prepared for the trip to woods of Blair Township. Their spirits at the beginning were high and cheerful as they expected a fulfilling and educative trip. However, during the trip, their spirits were broken and they start getting frustrated, suspicious, and terror. The movie uses the footage of the students collected from the woods and depicts their actual reaction as they tried to uncover the unknown. The notion of a mockumentary is used in the film (Martin 41). What the audience sees is what the students see in their excursion of the woods. The film does not have graphic displays of horror through bloodshed or monsters. The movie only shows the footage collected by the students as they explore the deep and dark woods in search of the legendary Blair Township Witch.

The film does not deliver its content through explicit depiction of the supernatural forces in the woods; all that the audience sees is the fear in the eyes of the students and their voices. The film does not employ scare tactics through high-level graphics and sound effects. The film does not show the Blair Township Witch or any of her powers in action but only the reaction of the students in the film towards these forces, which remain unknown to the audience throughout the film. The imagination of the audience is provoked through the footage of the students who had gone to the woods to find out the facts about the Blair Witchcraft Legend. Fear in the audience is sparked by reference to witchcraft, as opposed to witchcraft itself. It is not clear that witchcraft is involved or whether the Blair Witchcraft legend is a reality. People relate the happenings in the movie to witchcraft and the history of the place because the directors did not show any explicit relation between the fear in the characters and the history. The fear factor in the film is an unknown and unseen supernatural force that haunts the house of Katie and Micah. They put up a video camera to record the unusual activity that had occurred in the house the previous night. When they were sound asleep, the door swings slowly back and forth in its place. The film also delivers its horror through the footage found from the couple’s house after the incident. The fact that the audience never knows the actual source of the events occurring in the house leaves them imagining the worst out of the movie. The feeling of the haunted house catches all watching the movie not because of their view of the haunting force but because of fear in reference to supernatural activity and the phenomenon of the haunted house.
