MELICA PART 8: EMAIL WRITING FOR GALUS/HALUS SPM 1119 CANDIDATES: MODEL ESSAYS 7, 8 AND 9

email essay format spm 2021

Lower intermediate candidates have been expressing their gratitude for MELICA. After reading the model essays shared in Part 1 till Part 7, most of the galus/halus candidates feel they are getting more confident to write essays in SPM 1119/2. I truly hope similar sentiment is expressed by the weak SPM 1119 candidates elsewhere too.

At this final stage of making preparations for SPM examination, I hope MELICA can still assist the candidates to continue making their preparations till the finishing line. The least thing to do is to read and understand each sample question and examine each model answer. Critical examinations of the model answers in terms of ideas, cohesive devices, paragraphing and elaborations, can reinforce candidates’ good preparations for the writing paper. The following are the model answers which teachers can adopt and adapt to suit their realities; needs, context, learning and teaching styles, availability of time and pupils’ readiness.

You must answer this question.

You received an email from Zack, your cousin, who will have a one-month school holiday.

As you know, my one-month holiday will start next week. I plan to learn how to cook. Who do you think should teach me how to cook? How long should I learn to cook? What kinds of dishes should I focus on and why?

Appreciate your suggestions. Bye!

Write an email to your friend in about 80 words . Write your answer below.

To: [email protected]

From: [email protected]

Subject: Cooking

You want to cook during school holiday? Great! Sorry, I know your mother is lazy to cook. Therefore, you should learn to cook from your grandmother. She is a good cook. Besides, her foods are awesome!

How long? Well, I think you need at least two weeks. Soon, you will be like a chef. Why don’t you learn to cook fried rice first? Then, chicken curry because I know you love it so much. Moreover, it is so simple to cook them.

Do share with me some photos of your dishes. Bye. [94 words]

You received an email from your best friend, Ismee, who plans to celebrate his grandfather’s birthday.

Help me please! I need ideas to celebrate my grandfather’s 75th birthday next month. Where shall I have the birthday party? Who should be invited? How can I make his birthday party awesome?

Hope to get some ideas from you. Bye!

To: [email protected]

From: [email protected]

Subject: Awesome Party

Hi, Ismee. Wow! Your grandfather will be 75 years old! You should plan a great party for him. Have it at Mantop Café because it has a big room. Furthermore, the food is great!

Why don’t you invite your grandfather’s old friends? Of course, family members must be there too. Don’t forget Uncle John, your grandfather’s best friend.

I think you know all his favourite songs. Maybe all your family members should sing together his most favourite song. I am sure the party will be memorable.

Send my love to your grandfather. Bye. [96 words]

You received an email from your close friend, Shelly, who likes to change her hobby from time to time.

I think it is time for me to explore and try a new hobby. What hobby do you think I should try? How much will this hobby cost? What are the benefits of this hobby?

Sorry to trouble you but I need your advice. Bye!

To: [email protected]

From: [email protected]

Subject: New Hobby

You need a new hobby? What has happened to reading romance novels? Well, perhaps you should take photos. It is a great hobby. Moreover, you love to travel and take photos.

I think photography may not cost much. You just use what you have. Your smart phone is already good. You don’t need a new camera.

Taking photos has many benefits. I believe you can improve your creativity. To take great photos, you must be creative too. In addition, you can make others admire nature more when they look at your beautiful photos.

Do tell me about your new hobby! Bye. [106 words]

5 Email Essay Spm example – Informal Email

Informal emails are suitable for communicating with acquaintances, friends, or colleagues you share a close relationship with, allowing you to express yourself more freely and naturally compared to formal or business communication. However, it’s essential to be mindful of the context and the nature of your relationship with the recipient to ensure that the tone and content of your email are appropriate. Certainly, here is an example of an email essay for the SPM (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia) examination:

Subject: Activities during free time

Dear Ahmad,

It’s great to hear from you.

I agree, watching TV is tiresome. These days, I’m into gardening. My sister and I tried planting a flowering plant a few months ago. Seeing it grow made me feel delighted. Since then, we turned the empty lawn into a garden. Why don’t you try it as well?

If you want something to di indoor, you could try playing online games. My brother loves it. He said it’s fun and exciting.

I hope this will be of help. Write to me as soon as you can and tell me what to do.

Subject: Ways to take care of the environment, let’s go green.

Hi Sonali Bendre,

It’s good to hear that your family has jumped on the recycling bandwagon.

There are few things you can do to take care of the environment. You should switch off and unplug any electrical appliances when not use. When you leave a room, make sure to swich off the lights and fans. This can help to reduce carbon emission.

Additionally, you should use a green bag instead of a plastic bag when shopping. Keep away from using straws too. Both of these cannot be recycled.

Hope this has helped.

Sincerely, Raju Chandran

Subject: The best way to go to Kuala Terengganu – by Car or flight

Dear Monalisa

In my opinion, going to Kota Bharu by car is better than taking a flight. Although it will take longer hours, it is economical. Your parents only need to pay for the toll and fuel which are cheaper compared to the flight tickets. Moreover, your family won’t have to worry about renting a car once you have arrived in Kuala Terengganu.

As for me, my family do not have any plans yet for the holidays. But I do hope we will get to go to the beach.

I hope I have helped you.

Love, Rashidah

Subject: Malaysia Day Celebration: Singing and Dancing Activities

Hello Melissa Saila,

My suggestion for the Malaysia Day celebration would be Dancing dan Singing competition. This activity will help the students know the patriotic songs besides showing off their hidden talents. Over and above that, the students will also get the opportunity to show their creativity in composing songs and delivering them to the audience. They can dress up as freedom fighters or national leaders. I am pretty sure the students will enjoy it.

I hope this suggestion will help you to organise the day. See you later.
