Roopanthara movie review: ಮಿಥಿಲೇಶ್‌ ಎವಲತ್‌ ನಿರ್ದೇಶನದ ರಾಜ್‌ ಬಿ ಶೆಟ್ಟಿ ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ ಅನೇಕ ಪ್ರತಿಭಾನ್ವಿತ ಕಲಾವಿದರು ನಟಿಸಿರುವ ಸಿನಿಮಾ ಜುಲೈ 26ರಂದು ಚಿತ್ರಮಂದಿರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಬಿಡುಗಡೆಯಾಗಲಿದೆ. ಈಗಾಗಲೇ ಈ ಚಿತ್ರವನ್ನು ಚಿತ್ರತಂಡ ಕೆಲವರಿಗೆ ತೋರಿಸಿದೆ. ಈ ಸಿನಿಮಾ ನೋಡಿರುವ ಕಾರ್ತಿಕ್‌ ಸುಬ್ಬರಾಜು ಮತ್ತು ಹೇಮಂತ್‌ ಎಂ ರಾವ್‌ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯ ಇಲ್ಲಿದೆ..

ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು: ಮಿಥಿಲೇಶ್‌ ಎವಲತ್‌ ಅವರ ಚೊಚ್ಚಲ ನಿರ್ದೇಶನದ ರೂಪಾಂತರ ಕನ್ನಡ ಸಿನಿಮಾ ನಾಳೆ (ಜುಲೈ 26) ಚಿತ್ರಮಂದಿರಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಬಿಡುಗಡೆಯಾಗಲಿದೆ. ಈ ಸಿನಿಮಾವನ್ನು ಈಗಾಗಲೇ ಕೆಲವು ತಮ್ಮ ಆಪ್ತರಿಗೆ ಚಿತ್ರತಂಡ ತೋರಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಇವರಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲವರು ಈ ಚಿತ್ರ ನೋಡಿರುವ ಎಕೈಟ್‌ಮೆಂಟ್‌ ತಡೆಯಲಾಗದೆ ವಿಮರ್ಶೆಯನ್ನೂ (Roopanthara Movie Review) ನೀಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಈ ಚಿತ್ರದ ಕುರಿತು ಸಪ್ತ ಸಾಗರದಾಚೆ ಎಲ್ಲೋ ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕ ಹೇಮಂತ್‌ ರಾವ್‌ ಮತ್ತು ಜಿಗರ್‌ತಂಡ ತಯಾರಕ ಕಾರ್ತಿಕ್‌ ಸುಬ್ಬರಾಜ್‌ ನೀಡಿರುವ ಸಿನಿಮಾ ವಿಮರ್ಶೆ ಇಲ್ಲಿದೆ.

ರೂಪಾಂತರ ವಿಮರ್ಶೆ: ಕಾರ್ತಿಕ್‌ ಸುಬ್ಬರಾಜ್‌

ಕಾರ್ತಿಕ್‌ ಸುಬ್ಬರಾಜ್‌ ಅವರು ರೆಕಾರ್ಡ್‌ ಮಾಡಿರುವ ವಿಡಿಯೋ ಮೂಲಕ ತನ್ನ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. "ಇದು ನಾಲ್ಕು ಕಥೆಗಳನ್ನು ಒಂದಕ್ಕೊಂದು ಸೇರಿಸಿ ಮಾಡಿರುವ ನಿರೂಪಣೆಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಚಲನಚಿತ್ರ ಬರೆದ ರೀತಿ, ನಟರ ನಟನೆ ನನಗೆ ತೀವ್ರ ವೀಕ್ಷಣೆ ಅನುಭವ ನೀಡಿತ್ತು. ಆರಂಭದಿಂದಲೇ ತುದಿಗಾಲಲ್ಲಿ ನೋಡುವಂತೆ ಮಾಡಿತ್ತು. ಈ ಚಿತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ನಟರ ಅಭಿನಯ ಸೂಪರ್‌. ರಾಜ್‌ ಬಿ ಶೆಟ್ಟಿ ಮಾತ್ರವಲ್ಲ, ಸೋಮಶೇಕರ್‌ ಬೋಳೆಗಾಂವ್‌, ಹನುಮಕ್ಕ, ಲೇಖಾ ನಾಯ್ಡು ಹೀಗೆ ಎಲ್ಲರ ಅಭಿನಯ ಮನೋಜ್ಞವಾಗಿದೆ. ಎಲ್ಲದಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಮುಖ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಈ ಸಿನಿಮಾದ ಕಥೆಯನ್ನು ಬರೆದ ರೀತಿ ನನಗೆ ಇಷ್ಟವಾಯ್ತು" ಎಂದು ಅವರು ಹೇಳಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಕಾರ್ತಿಕ್‌ ಸುಬ್ಬರಾಜ್‌ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ಇದರಲ್ಲಿ ನಾಲ್ಕು ಕಥೆಗಳ ಹೈಪರ್‌ಲಿಂಕ್‌ ಕಥೆಗಳಿವೆ. ಆದರೆ, ಈ ಸಿನಿಮಾದಲ್ಲಿ ಐದು ಕಥೆಗಳು ಇವೆ ಎಂದು ಚಿತ್ರತಂಡ ತಿಳಿಸಿದೆ.

Kannur Squad to Chikku: Kannada dubbed films to stream in the third week of November

In the third week of November, the sole original Kannada film dropping on OTT is Shivarajkumar’s action heist thriller Ghost, which will be available with Telugu audio as well on Zee5 Kannada on November 17. In theatres, it is the second and final instalment of Rakshit Shetty’s Sapta Sagaradaache Ello, titled Side B, that could pique your interest. But if you’ve seen Ghost and have parked Rakshit’s film for the weekend, chances are that you’ve been waiting for some films to be served in your language. And this is what you get this week…

Kannur Squad

Malayalam superstar Mammootty’s big hit, the police procedural drama Kannur Squad is on OTT this Friday. Directed by Roby Varghese Raj, based on a script written by his brother, actor Rony David Raj and Muhammed Shafi, the film is based on the real-life Kannur Squad set up by Kannur SP S Sreejith. It follows a team of cops led by ASI George Martin (Mammotty), who go about cracking high-profile cases, by tracking down hard-to-find culprits in their trusted Tata Sumo. This time around, the team is on the lookout for the men behind a heinous home invasion that resulted in a death. The film also stars Azeez Nedumangad, Kishore, Vijayaraghavan, Shabareesh Varma, among others.

Kannur Squad movie review: Mammootty’s police procedural is an engaging, expertly-crafted crime drama  

Chikku (Chithha)

Actor Siddharth’s hard-hitting film about child sexual abuse was a critics’ darling, but did not work well at the box office. The actor had taken the trouble of dubbing himself for his role, including Kannada, where the film was released by KRG Studios as Chikku. However, the film came during a recent Cauvery water agitation, owing to which he was not allowed to promote it well in the state. It is coming to OTT on Friday. The film also stars Nimisha Sajayan, Anjali Nair and child artiste Sahasra Shree. The film follows Siddharth’s central character Easwaran, who is extremely close with his late brother’s daughter Sundari. How he deals with the child’s abduction and her abuse at the hands of a sex offender forms the crux of the narrative.

Thalapathy Vijay’s big Dasara release should drop on OTT in a few hours if reports are to be believed. The Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial has reportedly been picked up by Netflix for its digital streaming rights and is rumoured to land on the platform on November 16. The streamer has given no indication to that effect yet, but the fact that an animated movie by the same name was pushed ahead by a few days is seen as a sign that Vijay’s Leo will soon start streaming. Vijay is Parthi, a café owner and family man, who lives a peaceful life with his wife and two kids. But when a rowdy gang upsets this and puts Parthi’s family in jeopardy, he steps up to keep them safe, which grabs eyeballs, including of two notorious gangsters – Harold and Antony Das – who think that the former is Antony’s estranged son Leo, who’d been presumed dead. Is Parthi really Leo or is it a case of mistaken identity?

‘Chithha’ movie review: Siddharth stars in a painfully-relevant and poignantly-brilliant drama

Handling the sensitive issue of child sexual abuse with care, ‘chithha’ marks a befitting resurgence for both its director su arun kumar and lead actor siddharth.

In one of Chithha ’s earliest scenes, Easwaran (Siddharth), knowing that his niece Sundari (a fantastic Sahasra Shree) is hiding from him behind a tree, uses a mobile game to lure her out for him to playfully catch her. Later in the film, a pedophile, who kidnaps and abuses schoolchildren, uses the same technique to win the trust of a kid before abducting her. The human touch is one of our most basic and primal needs, but unfortunately, not everyone’s touch has the same intent; SU Arun Kumar uses a slew of similar incidents to point out how analogous actions can mean something worlds apart when the objective differs. With such brilliantly-written and staged scenes along with a strong core, Chithha marks a befitting resurgence for both its director and lead actor.

Arun Kumar, right from his Pannaiyarum Padminiyum short film that he developed into a full feature for his debut, his sophomore flick Sethupathi , and his underwhelming third film Sindhubaadh , has proven time and again that writing relationships is his strongest suit. This prowess is on full display with Chithha, his first non-Vijay Sethupathi starrer. Here, he explores more than just the bond between a niece and her uncle (chithappa). Of course, there’s the quintessential romance track, albeit with a twist, featuring Sakthi (Nimisha Sajayan, in what feels like an extension of the strong roles she’s known to portray in her Malayalam films). But the film subverts the conventional ‘establishing a new love track’ trope which not only saves runtime, but also leads to a convenient yet unsettling reveal. What works more is the friendship between Easwaran and his cop buddy Vadivelu, and the cordial relationship Easwaran shares with Sundari’s mother, his dead brother’s wife (Anjali Nair).

And when it comes to the relationship at the centre of the plot, they form some of the most beautiful and poignant sequences of the film. A simple scene showcasing Sundari sleeping next to her uncle often is used as a callback when Easwaran has to identify a charred dead body. He explains how he slept next to it and noticed a height difference, which proves that it’s not his Sundari. Speaking of characters, Arun Kumar has painstakingly written even the tertiary ones with utmost care. For example, most of them who go out of their way to help Easwaran are parents who can’t imagine themselves in his shoes. The film is also pleasantly filled with strong women characters; those who’d take charge even when the men are down and weeping over their circumstances.

A study tells us that 90 per cent of child victims know their offender, with almost half of the offenders being a family member; Chithha , like last year’s Gargi , reiterates that the horrors lurking around our children are closer than we believe. What makes the depiction of abuse more hard-hitting are the sequences that happen behind closed doors, letting our horrid impulses fill in the blanks. No wonder it makes your skin crawl when the predator’s provision list consists of baby food, lollypop and petroleum jelly. The film also tries to realistically capture the legal proceedings of a POCSO case with a spotlight on how cops solve (or try to solve) them.

Chithha , as a script, offers two major conflicts. One is when Easwaran is accused of sexually abusing his niece’s classmate Ponni, where some excellent POV cinematography and slick editing make us almost believe that our protagonist has committed something heinous. The transition in the supporting characters when there’s an iota of doubt towards Easwaran — and how he reacts to them — showcase the actor in Siddharth, which we dearly missed in his last few films. Another conflict comes in when a serial sex offender kidnaps Sundari. Arun Kumar, who proved his mettle in drama with his debut film and tried his hand at thrillers in his next two films, blends both those genres into Chithha and pulls it off almost convincingly; if only the progression had been more organic.

When Sakthi opens up to Easwaran about her sexual abuse at the hands of a relative, Easwaran retorts with where he can find that perpetrator instead of asking how she overcame the ordeal only to be schooled on how a violent reaction of his might turn her ordeal into her identity. The splendid performances from everyone in the cast aside, it is messages like these that make us forgive the niggles and celebrate Chithha as one of this year’s most important films. Talk about good touches!

Chikku (Kannada) trailer …small scale ≠ small impact

Kannadan films are emerging as my go-to Indian cinema for crime thrillers and suspenseful dramas which Chikku looks apt to fulfill. I wish the trailer didn’t give away so much as it almost verges into spoiler territory. That said, I will seek it out once it makes its way onto OTT (as where I am in America only shows the big budget Indian films).

Any input on the filmmaker and/or actors as I am unfamiliar with their previous work?

• After completing his formal education, Chikkanna began participating in comedy shows through Drishya Kalavide, a visual artist based in Mysore.
• He has performed in many stage shows during festivals such as Karnataka Rajyotsava.
• Chikkanna then got a chance to perform on a comedy show on Udaya TV. Chikkanna played many villain roles during his time on television.

Mediaone Global Entertainment Limited presents a film by Majestic Multimedia Limited, which has set new standards for Tamil film production with their recent blockbuster "Dhaam Dhoom". They have aimed to reach even higher with their forthcoming film "Chikku Bukku" .

The film stars Aarya, Shriya Saran and Preetika, the younger sister of Bollywood star Amrita Rao who makes her debut in the movie.

K. Manikandan, who was the Associate Director to Jeeva for 12B, Ullam Ketkumme and Unnale Unnale, took over and successfully completed Dhaam Dhoom, after the untimely demise of Jeeva. Media One Global Entertainment Limited, who was impressed with Manigandan in Dhaam Dhoom, recommended him to Direct Chikku Bukku.

The film has completed shooting and the Audio is slated to release in July 2010. Arya with his earlier performance in Varudu has created a brand for himself with the Telugu audience, Shriya who's a leading Actress in the Telugu, considering the kind of response that these lead actors hold, the film will simultaneously release in Tamil and Telugu.

Most of the technicians who had worked with Jeeva are part of the Chikku Bukku team. Camera was handled by R.B. Gurudhev, Dialogues were written by S.Ramakrishnan, and lyrics were done by Padmashree.Valee / Pa.Vijay and music by Colonial Cousins Hari and lesle, while Rekha Chinni Prakash and Dinesh did the choreography. The costumes were handled by V.Sai and Deepali Noor.'

The film is a Romantic travelogue, which starts in London and ends in Karaikudi. The shooting took place in around trendy areas of London, scenic locales of Mysore, Coonoor and traditional houses of Karaikudi.

The diversity between spectacular locations in London, Rain forests near exotic western Ghats in Karnataka and monumental Karaikudi would give a new look and grandeur to Chikku Bukku
